Drove up because I thought they’d have a good selection of racquetball accessories, although I really just needed a new cover for my racquet. They appeared to be a smallish boutique-like biz with a focus on tennis. Looked like they had one or two things racquetball related. The owner was a very nice woman who gave me a cover for free. I offered to pay but she wouldn’t take my money. Super cool. Probably won’t be driving all the way up there again, from downtown, but if you live in that area and play tennis it would make a good local spot to shop for all your tennis needs. Again, great owner! Cool little tennis shop!

I was surprised to find that they do not have on-site racket stringing service. It took them a whole week to string a racket. I got synthetic strings that only cost 3 dollars if I had bought it online… but it cost me 30 dollars to string my racket. The shop is pretty small and the prices are high. The service is whatevers. I asked for string recommendations and the guy muttered something generic like«it depends on what you like»…which is true to a certain extent… I was hoping he could give me more insight after I told him about my playing style but he was unable to produce some decent recommendations. He just didn’t really look like he cared.

I can’t believe that I’m the first to give this place its well-deserved props! I played tennis from elementary through high school, and have recently decided to get back into it. I knew I was going to The Racquet Place to buy my racquet(which an ex-boyfriend’s dad«borrowed» and now swears he never touched). Anyway, I played for Mt. Carmel HS, and my former teammate’s mom and another lady own the place, so I have my loyalties. My expectations were pretty low, though, and they really surprised me! While I was in there, three other customers came in, and the lady working knew all of them by name! It used to be in RB, and then moved to Poway(corner of Poway Road and Pomerado) about 4 years ago. They are about to move again, to 4S Ranch, but I’ll try to update the address or something when that happens. It is a great family owned and run business, and they really do want to help you find exactly what you want, because they want you to enjoy tennis as much as they do! I went in with the intention of just buying a racquet that felt alright, but instead I entered their Demo Program. It goes like this: — You pay $ 20 — They give you two racquets at a time to try out — You come back every 4 days(or more often), tell them what you liked and didn’t like, and they give you different ones until you have foud the perfect match for your game — There is no time limit. The $ 20 covers you for as long as you need to find what you are looking for — When you decide to buy, they put the $ 20 toward your purchase How do you beat that??? They sell a great variety of tennis stuff including bags, clothes for men and women, racquets, balls, tape, stringing services, shoes, and probably more that I just didn’t happen to notice. Ok, I took a business card, so here are the hours: M-F 10am-6pm SA10am-5pm SU11am-3pm email:
