Dropped in here one late night in the Gaslamp Quarter. The club had a good vibe going that night. It was packed and I could barely move around… that means it was a good night! A packed club is always better than an empty one. After hanging out here for a while, my friends and I decided to head downstairs to Onyx. Good times had by all! Return Factor — 89%

Only good with ToeKnee promotes… Its always packed upstairs and downstairs. Go downstairs to lounge and drink, then come back upstairs when you’re really ready to boogie. The line outside goes pretty fast and most times you won’t pay more than $ 5 for entrance. DJ’s are usually good playing mostly hip-hop on both levels. Bathrooms are clean and can hold 4 people at once. Typical high prices for drinks and water.

Maybe I went on a bad night, but it was NOT fun at all. We were there on a Saturday night for the Aly & Fila performance downstairs at The Onyx Room. I didn’t really like the DJ that was spinning at the time, so we went upstairs to see what was going on at Thin. There was no one there. On a Saturday night at 11:30pm. There was probably 20 people sprinkled throughout the space. A few hanging out by the bar, a few on the dance floor(super awkward), and the rest were just standing around. I kept drinking and I tried so hard to «try» to have fun. It just wasn’t working. By the way, the drinks are pricey… especially for this kind of bar/club. The music was HORRIBLE! The DJ kept playing these horrible remixes — that really bugs me. why ruin a perfectly good song?! One positive thing I’ll say — I like their bathrooms haha! Yeah. I don’t know if I’l be back for more.

The 23 year old in me gives this place 4 stars, plus we got in for free thanks to these girls who gave us complimentary passes to Onyx/Thin. Another spontaneous night in the Gaslamp District. Thin being number 3? We first went into Thin, wasn’t feeling it, went down to Onyx, ummm… let’s try Thin again. The music they were playing was better than it was 5 minutes ago. haha So we made our way to the dance floor. Yolanda Be Cool — We No Speak Americano started playing… YES! *dances* I’m not averse to mainstream/top 40s music, if you can dance(to it), what’s the problem? Everyday I’m Shufflin’ :D Kept making eye contact with this one guy and eventually started dancing with him when this other guy cut in between him and I and started dancing with me! WTF! hmph, not cool. I should have ditched him but whatever. And guy#2 was apparently had sweat dripping on me hahah EW… $ 4 for a small FIJI water! That’s cray cray. If half ratings were available i’d give this place 3.5, but we got in for free so no biggie! Do all filipinos look familiar to me? «I’m not from here, I’m from the bay» «oh, you look like someone I know» hahaha

Nice place for a drink and a couple minutes on the dance floor. Would come back again for a birthday.

This place is straight up ghetto/whack. Came here last night w/my besties for my girl’s 25th bday and we were rolling w/her cousin and his buddies. They wanted to come here and one of my girls said this place sucks. I’ve never been here but here’s some reasons why this place DOES suck: 1) Horribly rude promoter girl: We get up to the front of the line and my friends didn’t say anything to the promoter. She looked at my friend for one second, stuck up her hand(like talk to the hand) turned her head the opposite direction and said«I don’t know you. I don’t know you.» Nice attitude and super classy. My friend’s cousin got some other promoter to get us in for free but after that I totally wanted to blow this joint. There’s so many other better clubs downtown. –1 star 2) Everyone here is wasted. I was sitting on one of the couches minding my own business talking to my friend when I see this fake blonde pointing at me w/an angry face shouting something giving me the stank eye. When I was sitting outside getting fresh air(which is hard w/all the smokers) some girl barfed behind us. We tried to stop people from stepping in it but all the stumbling drunkards didn’t understand us. The one time we weren’t paying attention a girl slipped and fell in it spilling her drink all over us while knocking over the trashcan/ash trays. Some guy who was not fit started to strip. It was not attractive and I’m surprised security didn’t do anything about it. That’s only 3 stories and I have a bunch more. –5 stars 3) Creepers. Well I guess you can never get away from creepers at a club. But there was one old old man who just stood there in his suit and pink tie staring at everyone w/his drink. Like the whole night. In the same spot. All night. –1 star 4) It was all hot and humid in the club which made it feel like there was smoke machines on. Not the most comfortable dancing environment. –1 star The only good thing about this place was it was open later than other clubs downtown. Most places close at 1:30. We left around 2:30 and there were still quite a few people dancing the night away. They also had better music than Ivy where I went the night before. +1 star So I guess my Unilocal review should be –7 stars. I don’t think I would ever want to come here again willingly.

honestly, when it comes to nightlife, my feelings are greatly swayed by the company I am with. and the nite I spent at Thin I was with very good company :] that included some very sexy eye candy behind the bar. and thank goodness because this club doesn’t exactly attract the beautiful people :-/ but from the vibe, people, and music i have definitely spent my time and money better elsewhere. *Atmosphere: its basically just one giant room, nothing special or memorable to set it apart from the rest. there is a handful of private tables on one end, the dance floor, and then the bar. there is a bench in the far corner for the few lucky souls to rest their feet(we ended up having to go downstairs to rest ours when the time came). the bathroom has a common wash space you go through to get to each side. i got a «thats a nice dress» compliment as i washed my hands next to a dude. awesome… thats exactly where i want to be hit on. yes, you can wash the pee off your hands first… that would be great. *Music: meh, all over the place. though i dont think highly of most mainstream club music. it has some good moments(though i must add a disclaimer that i favor electronica) but had mostly what i dub ‘ghetto rap music’ — im not trying to be offensive because there is some awesome hip hop… but i did not hear it here. *People: this is a place where guys have no class or proper tactic on meeting girls. id equate them to those bad lays where the guy only cared about getting himself off as-quickly-as-possible-you-might-as-well-be-a-blowup-doll. «hey, nice dress… so can i get your number?» «hey im [random guy name]…(i shake hand reluctantly) «so where do we go from here, eh?» …um, i think to myself, you walk away and i continue to dance with my girl friend, lol. — and that guy, btw, made another appearance later in the night walking home. recognizing me he turned to my friend and said«well can i get YOUR number?» classy. few highlights though: they offer guest list for free entry before 10 or 11(would state for that nite) there is Onyx downstairs to utilize, making it feel like you get 2 clubs in 1… more loungey, quieter, tons of sitting room, less dancing normally they serve effen black cherry vodka — my fav

I had a really great time here last night, but I attribute that mostly to being in a good mood to dance my ass off, the decent dj, I had fun company, and I got us VIP passes online so we didn’t have to wait or pay cover. Otherwise, Thin’s dance floor is pretty small and from what I gather, drinks are pricey.(I didn’t buy any.) The place didn’t really start jumpin’ until at least 30 – 45 minutes after we got there, which was probably around 10:30. I’d go again, though.

I’ve seen it said on numerous reviews before and I thought the Unilocalers were just being silly, but it needs to be said here and for Thin…“IF I COULDGIVETHISPLACENEGATIVESTARS I WOULD!” I came here last night for a friend’s birthday. The line was out the door and past American Apparel(about a 30 – 40 person line). It took a while to get in and once we did, Thin was pretty empty. Way to keep up the appearance that this place is poppin’, Thin. Once inside, saw a couple of friends waiting at the bar to order so we stood right next to them to do the same. For a 20 – 30 foot bar full of people waiting to order, there were only 2 bartenders and 1 bus boy! The 2 bartenders ended up on the same side of the bar fairly often, leaving us in the middle and the other side stranded. To make a long story short, 40+ MINUTESWAITING at the bar for 2 cranberry-«vodka“s(quotations needed because it tasted about 99.9% cranberry juice) and 2 AMFs. Which of the 2 bartenders finally served us you may ask? NEITHER! It was a 3rd bartender who just started her shift –_– By the time we got our drinks, Thin was completely full(yes, THAT much time had passed by). I could smell the musty-ness building up so we decided to spend the rest of the night downstairs at Onyx. Tried coming back up to give Thin another chance, but it felt like a sauna once I stepped in. Needless to say, 95% of my time spent at Thin was waiting at the bar for a drink. I’m not one to complain about customer service, especially at clubs downtown, but this was just horrible. If I ever decide to come back, which I highly doubt, I can honestly say that I’m pre-fading at a cheaper dive bar close by. I’d rather give my money to an establishment that can get me a drink in less than 10 minutes. Is that just too much to ask?!

Came here because my friend was DJing and because I want to go to all of the clubs Downtown. Went to Onyx and Thin. I came too late though, so I had to pay $ 20 to get in! Boo! My first time ever paying. I didn’t complain though, because we did get there pretty late(11:30pm). Guestlist closed at 11:00pm. Damn. At least we got player parking right in front of the club ;) These clubs are on the smaller scale. Thin, upstairs, is hip-hop, while Onyx, downstairs, was playing house. I stayed upstairs because I prefer hip-hop. The place is nicely decorated and wasn’t too crowded. Thin has a sleek, modern look, mostly decorated with white frosted glass and black. Onyx looks dark; mostly brown themed with animal heads on the walls. There was good music playing at both places, and I wouldn’t mind coming back here. The men’s and women’s bathroom upstairs connects in the middle and looks pretty cool, too. Drinks were expensive though. $ 12 for a Henny &Sprite, my drink of choice; try it next time. I like it better than Henny &Coke.

My girls and I got in for free — we don’t like paying cover. The dj was playing good music when we got in a little after 10. It was also already crowded. Hmm, not used to that. Crowd was mixed. Bathrooms were clean and there was no line surprising. Drinks were ok and my friend I thought one of the bartenders was cute. HAHA. Not many places to sit though. Ok place — I’d come back as long as we don’t have to pay cover.

Good if you get in free and only want to go dancing for an hour, maybe two… anything beyond that is pushing it. It’s almost a bowling alley setup. The music was pretty good, a lot of random songs, i.e. different than SD radio. However, the DJ got lazy and played basically the same exact mix within the same night. *Throws up deuces*

Was here for an event last night. Place looked nice but tap water was carbonated. Seriously? Bartenders could have been more friendly. Lots of better choices downtown

I’m not knocking this place because I’m not a fan of the music; I just know if I had to pay to get in I would have been upset. If you want a secret how to get in for free, read my review of the Onyx Room. There were a healthy number of people, not too packed, but not dead. It just wasn’t working. I mean, it looks pretty schnazzy(is that a word) in there. Its going for the upscale look, but I feel as a club, its just faking it, and one of these nights someone is going to find out, lol. Its trying too hard. Lights and fog machines and mirrors… i don’t know what they’re doing wrong, it just isn’t for me. But a plus is once you’re in you have access to the Onyx Room which is a separate yet connected club down stairs. If you can get in for free, its doesn’t hurt to check out.

So as part of my bar hopping night in San Diego last week, a group of friends and I ended up here because a club promoter was outside giving free passes. There was no line when we got inside, and I’m glad that we got in for free. To be honest, it was just some other fancy looking nightclub, but way smaller. The VIP section is off to the side right when you enter, so if privacy is an issue, get a table somewhere in the back. And just like any other club, their bathroom is co-ed. By that, the sinks are unisex and the toilets are separated. And of course, there’s a guy who hands you papaer towels and soap. sigh, if only I didn’t have to pay a buck to wash my hands. Sure, you don’t have to tip him, but I feel guilty for him helping me, and if I leave without washing my hands, I’ll feel dirty. Drinks are priced like any other lounge, but it was here where I was introduced to Disaronno and coke. I may have found my new chill drink besides Leinenkugel’s Sunset Wheat. Yeah, it was that good, and it was only $ 6. I need to start asking what drinks are specials for the night. As far as the crowd, everyone was here. Asians, douchebags wearing some sort of Ed-Hardy like shirt, middle aged Mexican couples, ladies that were just hurting in the looks department, and cougars. So it was pretty mixed. If you get a free pass and you leave, they won’t give you a stamp to come back in… so once you’re in there, you probably should stay I guess. Enjoy your top 40 music in a typical swanky looking, yet small lounge.

Foreward: This review is based solely on my experience on St. Patrick’s Day. This place blows. Maybe I’m not the target demographic for a place like this. Maybe I’ve outgrown the whole downtown club scene. Maybe there was way too many douche bags in there on St. Paddy’s. The only good thing was??? Ah, I got something! The $ 2 Pacifico’s.

Came here with my boyfriend, one friday night, as invited guests to some«event» or other. It’s 11 oclock. We’re standing at the bar, sipping my weak $ 10 jack and coke. THERESNOONEHERE?! Did I miss something? The memo about not arriving before midnight if you wanna roll with the cool kids? There’s two older men in really bad white pants standing on the end of the bar closest to the door, waiting, desperately waiting for hot girls to walk in. Five minutes later, still waiting. The only cool part is that you can take your drink outside to smoke. And even though that section is small, just remember, it wont ever get crowded. YAY!

The best thing about this place is the stainless steel bar and back bar area. Thank you guys ! You’ve given me a good model to work off of and I can now envision how my miniature home version of your bar will look like. Expensive drinks, Gaslamp crowd, cool bar. yadda yadda yadda

Umm, no. All I have to say is thank god I didn’t have to pay to get in and now I know I will never go back! I swear, this is where all the freaks of SD congregate. I went there on a Saturday night and luckily only had to stay for about 10 minutes total. It’s kinda small in there, the bathroom set up is strange, and the music pretty much sucked. I dunno if i was there on an off night, but I definitely won’t be going back to see if it’s any different.

I think this review should be combined with the Oynx review. I know I am the 30th person to write about it but it’s true; it is the same exact location. I guess they try to make it all cool by referring it to Oynx and Thin. Thin should refer to how thin the dance floor is. It’s small and that is one bar upstairs which you have to wait 10 minutes(less if you catch the bartender’s eye) for a drink. Crappy tasty drinks as they have no pride in making drinks. Drinks would taste good if you didn’t try to make it in 15 seconds and use the same mixing cup for everything.
