Got some great tacos! And all the tortillas are homemade and super delicious! The chicken was moist and well seasoned. They said they’ve moved from the original, now closed location and they’re all about being mobile, so hit them up and they can cater!

FYI…***This restaurant is no longer here.*** I did come here a few weeks ago and although the homemade tortillas were good, they were too thick for my taste. Burrito was ok. Not very flavorful. The salsa was pretty decent. I think too many people like their Cali style Mexican food. Apparently it wasn’t popular enough to stick around. It’s been replaced by an «Island Grill». Will update my review once I try it.

The fresh handmade tortillas are amazing! They’re thicker than your standard tortilla which I really enjoy. You know they’re fresh because they make the tortillas on a little stove to the right of the counter. You can’t go wrong with any of the burritos. The Mucho Macho is so big that it doesn’t fit in a wrapper, it comes in a to go container instead. Tommy is a super nice guy trying to start a successful restaurant from scratch. I trust that he will work out any issues in the long run. One example, the green salsa was a little off when they first opened, but it’s the best salsa he has now. My roommates and I love this place, and we go here so much that Tommy has learned our names!

The people that work here are extremely nice and that’s why I gave them the 3 stars. As far as the food. No thank you. I have given it many chances but I just don’t quite understand the whole Tex-Mex thing. I have a hard time with the taco shops and their stubbornness with yellow cheese. I’m Mexican so pretty much 2 – 20 «Mexican» taco shops or restaurants have my approval. But this mix of Tex-Mex I just dislike and I don’t like my food to be soggy with grease. I had the rolled tacos and they weren’t even crunchy, if anything they were moist but with oil … A big No for me. I really hope this place turns around. Maybe I will give it a few months with hopes that they drain their food and not reuse the oil. They have great customer service but they really need to step it up on the food.

A welcome addition to a patch of 30th that has lacked an incumbent taco shop for most of 2013. The name is accurate, the menu features several items with Tex-Mex heritage, like the barbecue chicken tacos, or the central mexico chalupas. But if you suffer an allergy to Texas, there are also many items you’d find at any respectable chain whose name ends with ertos. And of course there are some choices that are stronger than others. So far, Tommy’s true distinction has been the fresh-made tortillas, which improve the entire menu and keep me returning. The strengths of the menu are the burritos, particularly the bean, carnitas, or breakfast varieties, and the soft tacos which are more firmly in the Texas corner. While I’m usually a verde guy I prefer the roja here. There’s a table to dine-in, but at a guess I’d say 95% of the business is take-out, quite possibly after visiting any of the nearby bars.

This is a small hole in the wall place with 3 chairs and a card table inside. The guy at the counter is very nice and open to substitutions etc. Best rolled tacos this side of the border. Delicious, made to order. Comes with heaps of guac and sour cream, sprinkled with cheese. I only wish they were open late for a closing time food shop. They’d be one of the few good ones north of El Cajon blvd.

The owner of this place was very nice and apparently owned this same place in PB that closed down. With the quality of this food I don’t know how long this will stay afloat here either. I ordered the rolled tacos and was allowed to mix and match so I got 1 chicken 1 beef 1 pork so I could try all 3. These were probably some of the worst rolled tacos I’ve ever had in my entire life. There was a puddle of grease coming out of them. Every bite I took grease ran down my hand and arm. They tasted stale and old and possibly frozen I will say that the beef had good flavor but on the inside of the beef, it was more than skimpy. They gobbed on way too much sour cream and cheap tasting cheese and guacamole. I left a huge pile of it that I scraped off. The disguise did not work. Yes it was reasonably priced, but I don’t think I’ll be back with so many other wonderful inexpensive Mexican places to eat in San Diego. I’m still not sure what makes them tex– mex.

I’m not sure where all these 5 stars are coming from. I went to order the supposedly«Big Boy» burrito with carne Asada and for $ 7 I was expecting something like the Surf and Turf at Saritas taco shop. Instead I got a bulimic burrito with a non-fresh tortilla, I guess you can call it fresh if it was made the day off but to me fresh is having it made to order. The beef was seasoned with what seemed to be just black pepper and salt, the guacamole was bland and the hot sauce was just sauce… not spicy at all. Another item that got me curious as to how honest the business is from how I was charged. My total was $ 6.48 but since it I used my debit card the sign said that there is a $ 0.50 cent charge, my card was rang up for $ 7.03. I know it’s just a nickel but it is still an overcharge in my opinion. I can’t really endorse this location since the prices are high for the quantity and quality of the food being served. You’re better off staying on El Cajon blvd for a food alternative.

It is so yummy! Long ago, my aunt and uncle took me to the original location on Voltaire. I would only get quesadillas on their crazy good homemade tortillas. Since this location opened, I have had a veggie burrito and a carne asada burrito. Both were awesome. I love the pico in the burritos and the sides of homemade salsa are super fresh and worthy of being eaten with a spoon. I love that this place is walking distance from our place. I keep telling myself I will be healthier and get all the burrito fixings on top of a bowl of lettuce but I have not yet been able to forego that killer tortilla.

Great south Texas food! I had the breakfast burrito and it really reminded me of home with the homemade flour tortillas. Yum! Not to mention the owner is from my home town in Texas! Prices are reasonable and food is great. Definitely will be checking this place out again.

Tommy’s Tex-Mex originally in Point Loma on Voltaire, just opened this new location in North Park, I can say one thing… Homemade tortillas(burrito sized included) makes all the fare offered bettered. Although the menu at this new location is more limited currently it is expanding soon. I love the burritos here. The homemade tortilla sets the pace for the food. I will always be back for the great food.

Great new restaurant! The flautas(or I think they were called something else, but flautas they were) are nommy-nom-noms, i.e. delicious. They kind of are perfect drunk food… I wonder how late they’re open?!

All I have had here are the rolled tacos, which are homemade rather than the frozen ones most places have. Homemade tortillas with your choice of meat inside(I know!). I don’t remember exactly the different meats that you can order them with because you can make them carne asada which is always where I stop reading… I think they have mashed potato as an option too, as well as the mexican meat choices. They are amazing… I have been spreading the word as mush as I can about this place, I’m ecstatic that they’re so close to our new place :) Tommy is a class dude too; good guy who you can see cares about the details. The dining room is still a work in progress but they just opened up… give ‘em a minute. — TL:DR — Try the carne asada rolled tacos; they’re ridiculous!
