Treasure Trove

I visited 4 different shops that buy gold coins yesterday and ended up deciding to accept their offer for my coins. I felt comfortable immediately upon entering the store. It was almost 5pm and I think they where supposed to close at three. The couple (I am guessing) where informative, friendly, kind to me, (incidentally, I was touched by their kindness towards each other) and most importantly honest and true to their word.

I have been going here on and off for over 5 years. They have always been friendly and patient while they let me look for different coins for my collection. Plus they have given me fair prices for things I have sold. They were very helpful when I was looking for a metal detector too.

DON’T BUT OR SELL SILVER!!!
Check this out:
when prices of gold and silver say $ 36, Treasure Trove marks up its silver two dollars and sells it at $ 38. They tell you that this happens regardless of the price of silver. This of course is when prices favor the shop. However whenever prices favor the customer, say for example when silver was as low as $ 30, instead of marking it up to $ 32, they mark it up to $ 35.50! Again they tell you that it is because price is too low.
Bottom Line: I you are in the business of buying and selling silver,
ACCEPT THE RISK OF BUSINESS, which includes days when silver and gold and low! Really kind of sad that they let returning customers go without trying to make things better.

This is the only shop in San Diego that still stocks metal detectors, I mean, GOOD ONES. I like the fact that you can go in here and get a size and handling idea of a model before you buy one. Would you buy a car without test driving it with the intent to use it without actually seeing it first? Same thing with a detector.
They also sell coins and bullion, and I got good prices when I sold some of my items here. I also bought some cool stuff at a great price. I think this is also the only place I saw Dansco albums being sold at internet prices, and I managed to pick up a silver bar folder here.
There’s also stuff for people who are in to antiques. I only do the gold and silver thing, not big on jewelry or old furniture that I probably shouldn’t use heavily in the den, but it’s cool to look at if you want to kill some time.
Overall, I like the place and the folks there have always been nice and give you back a very detailed receipt. When it comes to places like this, I just don’t review the crooks unless I really want to warn folks away.
