Septemeber 1, 2013 Disgusting! I’m disgusted by the food they serve here! Not only were we patient with the lady serving us confused our order up, but she took literally FOREVER getting the order! After the bf and I try their sushi, we didn’t say anything, but we BOTH did not want to order their sushi. We both ordered«Japanese» food, which isn’t ATALL Japanese. I basically ordered Chinese food. The others ordered Sushi items. I don’t know how they enjoyed their dish, but I lost my appetite. I ordered noodles with orange chicken and teriyaki chicken. She could have simply scooped my food together on to a plate and POW! I get to eat… but no. I ordered that because I know my food is JUSTRIGHTTHERE! I can see it… right in front of me! But I somehow got my order LAST! How the hell is that possible? Everyone ordered sushi! They ordered the crunch roll! UGH…SOPISSED and STILL left here a $ 2 tip. NEVERAGAIN!

A nice server does not trump bad sushi! Got called for jury duty, when the judge gave us our lunch break I had to get away from there those people are not my peers! Eh, I digress… I walked to Horton Plaza looking for a McDonalds, but decided on sushi. Ordered the Tiger Maki… nothing to see here folks keep moving. I think that was the worse Tiger Maki I have ever had. Even the pigeons wouldn’t eat the pieces of shrimp I threw on the ground. Sad.

I should have Unilocaled this before but I needed sushi and sushi deli was closed. Overpriced mediocre sushi.

Many times I had passed by this place on my lunch break, scared away by the steep prices on their menu, until finally succumbing to hunger-aggravated temptation earlier this week. Having previously experienced Horton Plaza’s selection of Asian fast food at nearby Panda Express and Great Khan’s, I was expecting at least a half-decent meal from this seemingly more upscale Japanese establishment. Instead what I found was a very mediocre yet ridiculously overpriced sushi place that charges restaurant rates for Subway quality food. To avoid at all costs.

How a Japanese eatery messes up RICE is beyond me. They served me what appeared to be minute rice that had yet to be cooked. I played it safe with an order of teriyaki chicken and the meat was dry, dry, dry, like eating a piece of beef jerky left out in the sun for a year. I could barely choke down two bites of this awful food before tossing my meal in the trash. Complete waste of money. Save yourself and DONOT eat here.

If it’s possible to be a hole-in-the-wall-in-a-mall, then this is it. It’s tucked away between the more popular food establishments in Horton Plaza [Mongolian BBQ, La Salsa.], just a little nook of 3 or 4 tables, a steam table, and the counter for rolling. There’s hardly ever anybody in here, which is nice. I think most people craving Asiany-type cuisine head to Panda(which is, like, so totally Chinese omg!) Ahem. The people who work here are genuinely friendly. something that’s hard to come by in a mall food court. They’re happy to give you samples, make recommendations, and let you in on the daily specials. And unlike the staff at Panda, they don’t treat you like a bothersome little insect that they’d like to squash. As for the food? It’s decent. really not very remarkable but it usually hits the spot when I’m craving Japanese food. The orange chicken is good and salty-sweet, the teriyaki chicken is tender, they veggies are fresh and soft, and the sunomono is crisp and good(when they remember to put the dressing on. so annoying when they forget!) The sushi ranges from really tasty to really nasty. The crunch rolls are good; they usually do a nice tempura, but I don’t think the sashimi is of very good quality, and the roe doesn’t taste fresh. I’d definitely pass this up in favor of Sushiya or Ami, but this place is within walking distance of my home, so I often go here instead. I never leave feeling disatisfied, which definitely warrants 3 stars(i’d actually give it 3 and a half if I could.)

The food here is not good. I don’t know what I was thinking, its never a good idea to get sushi in a mall. I got a Hamachi Nigri and the fish tastes all warm and old. But even worse is the ramen. It was obviously just cup noodle, the broth is just powder and boiling hot water. And the toppings is frozen veggies microwaved. To summarize, the food is not good.

Simple, but fills that quick sushi fix I was walking home this afternoon and wanted a quick bite. Inside Horton Plaza, I wandered by the endless row of fast food stalls– reminded me more of carnival stands where you can get everything from a hotdog on a stick to fried dough and maybe some sushi in-between. I stepped in to look at a take-out menu and the girl at the counter started to explain their offering, holding up a box of pre-made sushi. Normally I don’t go for the pre-made stuff(assuming that it’s been sitting around for a day). But this was calling me– it was a nice mix of yellowtail, shrimp, and tuna sushi pieces, along with a cut philadelphia roll and other pieces. It was yummy! Each piece was very fresh, flavorful– it hit the spot. And at $ 11 for 10 pieces, it’s priced well. So if you need something quick and fresh, this is the place!

I went in expecting mediocre but I needed a wasabi fix. I ordered a specialty roll and asked the waitress what the sauce was — she asked the chef and still couldn’t tell me. When I got the roll it was sans sauce so for roll number 2 I figure go uncomplicated. Got a philly roll for the first time. It came with raw salmon, cucumber sticks, and a stick of cream cheese the size of the cucs — wasabi couldn’t even help the tastelessness. Two stars because even if uninformative the waitress was very attentive.

We came here yesterday to grab a quick bite before catching a flick the other evening. Oh man, it was not so quick at all, took over 30 minutes for our food to come out and all I ordered was 9 pieces of sashimi. The sashimi quality was quite ok, wasn’t so bad and tasted decent. It came with a miso soup and a bowl of rice so it wasn’t too skimpy and filled my stomach up a bit. Our server was very nice and friendly and gave us great service so thats why I’ll give this place a 3 star rating.

A causal sushi plus chinese food place at the Horton Plaza food row. Never that busy and with chinese food just as tasty at Panda Express(and don’t forget the sushi), definitely worth a stop it. The sushi here, even though its a little more expensive than say Sushi Deli 2, is done right there in front of you at the little sushi bar, and just as tasty for quick rolls or sashimi. Plus, you get the free parking!!!
