So, from the advise of many of my co-workers and several friends, I was incredibly excited to finally visit. Unfortunately first impressions are lasting, and the cramped space & nonchalant attitude of the doorgirl did not provide the vibe that our birthday party of 14 were looking for. Is there a chance that I’ll be back? Probably. I just hope management will review proper verbiage with their staff as no one wants to give money to rude people.

Total hole in the wall place that borders sketchy tenderloin meets young hipster meets random random locals. I went on a random weeknight after a dance class and they had donuts at the bar and there was a guy sleeping downstairs in the corner next to the dj. Sadly, the downstairs sound system is pretty great but the space is like a tiny basement corner and it was really just me and my friend dancing alone for a bit. No one really seemed to care that people were smoking in the bar or doing anything else for that matter. Welcome to San Francisco!

I never even knew this bar existed! It also looked amazing after going to the Brown Jug across the street. Eek. Came here for a comedy show Wednesday night. The only seats left were front and centered and I was terrified they would make fun of me for all I was worth but luckily they only said nice things. Phew! They have two levels and I guess the downstairs becomes a dance floor at night sometimes??? Bartenders were nice and the show was awesome. I feel like the guy selling tickets was also a comedian?! Ambiance is definitely all me. My grandfather lives across the street so I always have to talk myself out of stopping by and drinking alone.

Be sure to check their event calendar before heading to two two two ~ it’s only open for events, and they switch their pink light on above their front door as a beacon.
When they are open, check out their Happy Hour special ~ from 7p to 9p. They offer a handmade cheese pizza with a pint of Stella or a well drink for $ 8. The pizza is thin crust and is pretty good all things considered. I dig their friendly bartender, brick walls, dark lighting, high ceiling, long bar and artwork. They also have events in an adjacent room with a dance floor(or tables and chairs for comedy nights). The night I went, I really dug the soulful tunes of DJ Duane.

Super cool bar and venue. Came here to see a friend’s friend’s comedy show. We got there a bit early, so we sat at the bar. Katie(bartender’s name?) was really friendly. Two friends were hungry, so they ordered a pizza, which Katie made herself. The offerings were unique and fresh and my friends seemed to really like it. The downstairs space is small-medium size, which was perfect for a small comedy show. Apparently, it turned into a dance party right after.

An odd place … but GREAT pizza. Maybe I was just hungry, but I really enjoyed these mini pizza pies. Crust was thin, cheese and flavor were plentiful. My roommate calls this place«the cave.» The dance floor is at the end of the bar, down a couple steps. It’s really dark in there, except for the trippy lights they have flashing on the ceiling. We came on a Thursday, so the crowd on the dance floor was a bit sparse. I’m not sure I loved the music either. Apparently, on other nights they play«deep house,» whatever that means. If I’m in the area again, I’d stop by for a drink and pizza!

Best little dive bar/club in the TL? Sure. Good service, chill crowd and the beats run deep for a little spot. If you’re looking for a place to grab a few drinks and maybe dance some — check out this TL gem.

Small, cozy, fun joint. $ 6 – 20 cover charge depending on who is playing. Bouncer — Scott is very nice and friendly. Will probably come back and check out this place for house music.

Very interesting establishment. I came here for my first time with a friend after saturday’s outside lands. Neither of us were that tired so she suggested this spot. You walk in and it’s like any other pretty narrow bar. Bar stools… people sitting on bar stools. We sat at the bar for a minute. While there I felt someone rub the top of my head so I turned around and a random girl was smiling at me. And then she said«sorry, she made me do it.» She pointed at another girl. They both seemed rather out of it. We the descended down a few steps and there was a cramped little dance floor with some trance-y techno music playing. Everyone there was very into it. I think they were enjoying more than what the bar had to offer… There were these lights that would make designs on the ceiling and they seemed to really like that too… The music was interesting but that sound system was great. Though it wasn’t my first choice of dance music I still had fun dancing and people watching. There’s also a small smoking room that technically is outside because it has a bit of open air. My friend smoked so I followed her out there and met lots of interesting people. This isn’t necessarily my scene but I still had fun here. If any of the things I mentioned above float your boat then I’d absolutely head over. Otherwise this might not be your spot.

Sound is good. Crowd is always super hip and cracked out beautiful. Good music. I like that the bar and dance-floor are separate. Not a lot of room to dance. Always cheap, like $ 5.

I love this little bar(ok, I may be biased since it is right across the street from my apartment)! The bartenders are nice, the place has a super-great happy hour, they serve pizza, and they have lots of cool events. The crowd is never, well, too crowded, but when it is it’s very unpretentious. My only complaint is that I wish that they’d keep more regular business hours.

I must admit that I’m a little biased because I have the honor of hosting GetSet, a happy hour that goes down here every Friday from 7−10pm, BUT I think 222 Hyde is one of the most awesome spots in the city. It’s a versatile venue: you can chill at the bar, grab a drink, and nod your head to some great beats or you can head downstairs and boogie to your heart’s content. On Thursday you can even check out the hilarious open mic comedy cellar. But what really makes 222 stand out from the crowd is, of course, the soundsystem. As a soundsystem snob I’m pretty hard to please in this department, but being planted in the middle of the dancefloor at 222 is an incredible experience for your ears and mind. The sound is so crystal clear and loud without being overbearing — you can easily have a conversation with the person next to you and your ears won’t ring when you go home(priceless!). All in all, you can’t go wrong at 222. Sure the neighborhood is a bit on the sketchy side, but its very close to downtown/BART and I don’t feel unsafe… basically its like the jungle — don’t mess with the animals and they won’t mess with you :) And now for some obligatory self promo: please come grab some super cheap drinks($ 3!) and get your boogie on every Friday from 7−10pm at GetSet at 222 Hyde! :)

This venue is good because of the funktion one sound system. The vibe is usually great and I have had fun memories that I will never forget. The reason I am not a huge fan are because when it gets crowded the bottom level turns into a sweat box and is not enjoyable.

Great vibe. Intense thump from the speakers downstairs and friendly staff at the bar. A very nice hang out where one can pick up the latest in the city techno scene. DJ rotation can be hit or miss. Anything from German dark techno to euphoric happy bounce of liquid drum-n-bass with some gibberish of ‘uprising’ label in between. I even witnessed a long forgotten acid house of the 90’s that brought back those last century memories of midwest rave scene. No matter what branch of techno tree you sit on triple 2 is the venue that shares the love of this ever expanding artery of Electronic dance music(EDM).

This place has character, strong drinks, a nice ambiance where you can be there with your buddies, a date, or a casual meeting. Plus, there is pizza. And it is good my friends. I wanted to try the Bombay pizza, with garam masala, but I was stuffed from dinner, and the fat devil on my shoulder was too full to talk. Next time. My friend Dheeraj(DJ Siren) was playing there that night. I’ve heard from several of my friends who are djs and big on music about how great this venue is. The sound system is great, and it just has an overall nice character and ambiance. Very chill, midly divey, but overall a great vibe there. Will definitely be going back there, this time with a beer and pizza on my mind. Oh, and also, happy hour is great there. Pizza + Stella(or well drink) $ 8, amongst other deals.

If there’s one thing you can count on me for, it’s to be the first(and sometimes only) person on the dancefloor, usually dancing badly and singing loudly. This neighborhood is a shithole but the venue is always fun. Drinks are overpriced and service is virtually nonexistent, but being a girl, I usually don’t have to deal with such things. Which is good for 222, because it means they still get 4 stars from me.

So. This place has been under new ownership for a year now. There are 2, count ‘em, TWO dismal reviews during that entire new block of new Unilocal reviews. One sap, complaining about complimentary water, & the other crying about the drink prices. Advice to them: Go home and drink from your faucet, and, you, cheapo, go to the Brown Jug and order yourself a 2 dollar can o’ Pabst!!! My point. There are a bunch of great reviews, for this new-ish spot. Try it. Decide for yourself. It is. My favorite neighborhood bar.

On that magical morning I moved to the TL I could not believe my luck. A mere 0.7891 blocks from my favorite bar/club ever, 222 Hyde. I recall walking there on my first Friday out, full of glee, just to find that 222 had closed for good. Epic fail. Epic, epic fail. Like a tanked relationship, I moved on. Well, I tried to. I went to other bars but I always remembered the sweet times I shared with 222. I made sweet love to other clubs, but in the heat of passion it was 222 that crept into my mind’s eye. Would I ever recover from the loss? Walking home the other day, passing by my old lover 222 Hyde, the door was ajar… What??? I walk in and inquire, could it be… Lighting struck me, the news was that 222 lived once again. I made contact just the other night, if only for a drink. To slowly rekindle my old affair, but the cover was $ 10? The door man JB Rap was having none of it, he let me in to have my beverage, to acclimate myself to my old home. «Ahhhhh» I sighed, just like old times. The music thumping, the drinks strong. Something about this establishment makes me want to stay forever. I never wanted to leave in the first place but it closed on me, a friend struck down in their prime. The door man JB Rap, was a sign of the good times to come. He was funny and knew how to take care of a customer. I really only wanted a drink, it was late, so he let me slide on the cover. He was well within the bouncer code to tell me to get lost if I didn’t want to drop a $ 10 on the door. Word has it the pizzas are still on point. You can still purchase highchairs and VHS tapes on the block. The sound system pounded at my skull louder yet clearer than I recall. The plumbing in the bathroom now works! If you’re a possible stalker of mine this is honestly the best location for you to lay your trap. Now that 222 is back in business I don’t really feel the urge to go anywhere else.
