A & M Carpets

Just based on customer service I would NOT hire this company for my flooring. My landlord wanted to put in soundproofing and carpeting in the bedroom of our 3^rd floor apartment to accommodate the 2^nd floor tenant. Good enough. It would mean that we would have to move all the furniture out of our bedroom for one day. No small task and definitely not the problem or concern of the carpet company. It was enough of an inconvenience to find a time that would not impact our work schedules. We found a day that I was on vacation and could do the move and supervise in home and then move the furniture and misc. back into the room. We settled on a day/​time for AM to come out and see the apartment. They were a no show and no call for that appointment after I left work early to be here for them. They did call the next day to say «sorry» and they would come out that day. I asked my partner to be home early to accommodate them. No show and no call again. They showed up 30 min. early for the installation — minor problem. I just had to make them wait while I finished dressing in the morning (after all — it was my vacation).
The installers came in and had to be reminded to be careful where they put their tools and materials so as not to harm any of the stuff in our home (they laid a door them removed up against some posters hanging on a wall). To their credit they worked quickly and efficiently they told me someone else would have to put the bedroom door back on because it needed to be shaved. Fair enough. I would contact my landlord about that.
The company called me back 2 hours later to say they should not have left the door off and they would come back to do it. We agree on the next day at 12:00 noon.
The next day I called them at 12:28 because no one had arrived or called. After a few attempts by the first person I spoke to to «check and call you back» I firmly said no, I need to speak to someone in charge now. Spoke to Phyllis who was «in charge». She wanted to do the same and I asked her when she would call me back. She said «as soon as I know something» and I let her know that wouldn’t work for me. I wanted to know a specific time and she again repeated ««as soon as I know something». I told her that wasn’t a time and that I had already waited twice for no shows/​no calls. She said I was yelling at her (I wasn’t) and that I already kept them waiting «months» to make an appointment for the install. That’s when I realized we had a decidedly different view of our relationship as employer/​employee or customer/​service provider. I reminded her she was getting paid to provide a service to me — not the other way around and I asked her (yep. I was aggressive, terse, and firm in my tone and words) if it was normal for her business to no/​show and no call or jobs? Was it normal to be late or no show for a job and not call before the scheduled appointment time to let the customer know? She said now — they always call. Good enough. businesses are not perfect and mistakes are made.
She then said she would call me back in «two hours. Is that good enough for you?» I said no, I would expect her to call back in 10 minutes. That would allow her enough time to determine if someone was on their way or if we needed to re-​schedule. She called back in 6 minutes to say they would be at my place in 2 hours. I said that wouldn’t work, I could be available at 5. She then said she needed to call the installer to see if that could be done. 3 minutes later she called back to say he would be here at 5:00. We’ll see if that happens.
Bottom line for me is that I did not request nor pay for this service. It was my landlord. I did expect A&M carpets to be better than this. All of their high reviews here indicate they can and are. I just would look elsewhere if I were to be in a position to hire someone for flooring.

I have made three purchases from A&M Carpets and always had a great experience. I am not one to spend $ 4,000 on flooring personally, though they have some beautiful selections. For me I always go to the back and check their remnants and am always pleased.
Most of the rooms I have done have been small so I do not need tons of carpet or installation. They tossed in a great padding for free once. Really great people. I have referred many people to them, all have been satisfied.
I have a home improvement project coming up in a few weeks and plan to come here for my carpet. Great prices, friendly; helpful service… you just can’t beat that!

I had to buy carpet for a whole house. I use them in the past and it was better service. Now I’ve had to wait 30 minutes before someone ask me if I need help I only have them 4 star because last time it was good service. I think they change the staff and the old staff it’s much better then the new one I hope they will take what Unilocalers write so they will learn and improve. Price was good and I had someone install my carpet. Looks great

Kevin and his staff did an excellent job installing laminate flooring in my condo. Great customer service and care in completing the job. Great prices. Highly recommend.

I moved to San Francisco about a month ago and wanted to put carpet in my garage. I made it clear that using carpet glue was out of the question (I am not the home-​owner) and tacking wasn’t going to be possible either.
These guys took my concerns into consideration and did a beautiful carpet job in my garage using a carpet tape adhesive. It looks awesome and I am completely satisfied with the result!
Also, after shopping around, they have great prices. Rest assured that you are saving a lot of money doing business with A & M.

This review is for the customer service for the response to an inquiry with A&M Carpets. I spoke to a gentleman named Kevin who was really, really helpful and if not for the extreme circumstances, I would have gone with A&M and I am certain they would have done a great job for me. Kevin was dedicated to my cause — I could tell this and appreciated his return call and helpful options for resolution. I’m definitely keeping their contact information for future reference.

Priced around for wool wall to wall for a large bedroom and these guys were by far less expensive. And, came close to on time to measure and called with a quote the next day, then on to install three days later. Very pleased! And the installation took less time than was planned.

Good service — Good people. West Coast Sound Solutions and A & M Carpets have been very helpful to me in solving downstairs in-​law rental sound transmission problems. I have worked with them on 2 different projects.

Overall it was a good experience.
I called on Thursday, August 3^rd, at night, and left a voicemail for them to call me about getting a consultation. They called me back early the next morning and stated someone could come give me a consultation that day around 11:00am. Kevin, who is part of the family owners, came out to our house, was on time, and was very knowledgeable and pleasant. He was only here about 15 minutes and was able to get back to me on Monday morning with a quote. He brought two books of carpets they had in stock and let us know that those two would be the closest to what we had been describing that that was in stock and could be installed quickly. The quote was to us by Monday and was a great price (everything included, with no hidden fees). They said they could install on Wednesday… YES, we purchased on Monday, and had it installed on Wednesday. We did end up going to showroom because we got a little worried about the choice we had made so we went to check out the selection. They had a lot of books that could be ordered but we did end up with one in stock. We had it installed and the two men showed up around 10am on Wednesday morning and had the place done (den, stairs, and upstairs bedroom (including the closet) by about 2 30pm. The carpet seems to be done well and seems like it will wear wall.
My two complaints were:
We weren’t told what to expect or how to prepare so I didn’t move EVERYTHING (like the heavy bed, etc.) and figured we could just slide from one side to another. Having never installed carpet and really no where to put stuff in a loft I didn’t know and when the guys showed up they said it was fine but then called their boss and she called us to tell us it would be another $ 75 for the moving of furniture. I have no problem paying the extra when needed but I would have liked to be told what to do before the day of and while the guys were here.
Second complaint is that they were not as careful as they should have been. They left some scratches and dents in the wall and it bothered me that they were not anywhere near the carpet level… so I ended up having to do extra work on my home to get it back to my living expectations.
Again, very fast installation, very pleasant people and owners, and great price point (at least compared to some of the other bay area stores)… but the two complaints above do stand.
I would probably use them again and I can’t say enough good stuff about Kevin… he made the beginning of the experience great!

Just had a carpet installed in the lobby of our building, wall to wall. This is sort of a warehouse set up, so don’t go here if you want something fancy. If you like the fact that this set up lowers the cost of your purchase, then go here. Prices were great. Selection is good. I would say your average stuff.. . though I am not a carpet expert. My impression was that you could get whatever quality you wanted and that they carried all styles but didn’t specialize in any. We dealt with Kevin and he was super cool. The help he gave us was great. He did a site measurement promptly, then the carpet went in. It was fast and it looks great.

After my sticker shock at the price quoted to me by the competitor with the fancy showroom, I discovered A & M Carpet and they quoted me a price ¹⁄₃^rd less than the competitor for the same exact carpet. I naturally was concerned that the savings would result in a poor quality install, but am happy to report that they did an amazing job. We have an open stair case and they had to wrap each individual stair with a patterned carpet. They matched the pattern perfectly and the seam is invisible. We are extremely pleased with A & M Carpet and saved an extra couple thousand dollars.

I love this place. It is a family-​run business and they are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I have bought at least 6 area rugs from them. Yesterday, I went in for a carpet for my office. When I got the carpet to the office, it was the wrong color and size. I called the owner of A&M the next day. She said, «No problem. Bring it back and get another rug.» I did, and I am very happy with the new one. It is so refreshing to have old school service in a big box world.

Wow so fast! You may be turned off a little by the outside appearance but as soon as you step inside you’ll find a nice showroom and very friendly people. I needed carpet done quick so I selected something in stock on a wednesday and it was installed on Friday. Great service.

My family has been going to A&M Carpets for as long as I can remember, whenever we need new carpets, area rugs, runners (thinking about all the times i’ve gone in there with my mom. haha). we’ve always just gone to A&M. While they weren’t the closest to us, they treated us like family every time. Great pricing, awesome service. I grew up on an A&M Carpet, and i’d recommend anyone to go there.

i went looking for carepts at a&m carpets… they helped me find the perfect carpets for my appartment. carpet that will handle the wear and tear of 4 kids… i needed carpet that i could clean easily. they were very knowledgable about the differnent carpets and what would be the best solution for my needs. also i needed some soundproofing padding because my neighbors complain about the noise from my kids… so they were too very helpful in that area. they work with west coast sound solutions, so it was recommended to use soundproof pad to help reduce the noise coming from my appartment. thanks you guys are the best!

Went in to purchase entire home carpets, no customers, sales women didn’t acknowledge me for 20 minutes, then spend time on the phone with personal phone calls. Left, never to return!

Went carpet shopping here with Corey V. Super friendly service, and the rug prices were stellar. We couldn’t find rugs at comparable prices anywhere else. He ended up getting two area rugs for $ 150 each (!!!).
They could expand on their selection/​designs but I’d recommend coming here for something basic.

Picked up two 5×8 rugs for the new pad today. $ 150 each. It’s the only centrally located place I’ve found in the city with rugs that are under $ 300 and good quality. They have normal business hours so you have to get in there M-​F 9 – 5:30. Everyone I spoke with was friendly and ready to help.
