This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Three of us went last night and we loved everything about it — the food, our server, the place. Great for vegetarians as well — not the usual same old veggies. Brussel sprouts were great, 2 bean salad also. Sadly the delicious pizzas are going away but I encouraged them to rethink that decision — and consider using flat bread or something like that instead of the pizza dough.

My new favorite place on Filmore st. Its quiet, very friendly staff and great food. The pickled golden beets are awesome, Fried chicken with popcorn? very tasty and you must try the ice cream made with buffalo milk for desert. Hugh selection of craft beers.

This place is a must try. Staff was friendly and helpful. Bartender was awesome. Their beer selection is pretty awesome didn’t check out their wine selection. Love the fact that their menu changes with what’s in season. Tried their fried chicken sandwich starter. Yum!!! Spicy sauce was the perfect combo. Chef even came out to check to see what we thought. Amazing place!

Really good chicken sandwich with a Sriracha kick. Very good service and the rest of the menu looked fresh. Definitely recommended

I liked this place very much(tho to be fair, I spent a good amount of time at Kubuki springs before going here, so I possibly would have liked anything at that point since I was a state of seriously silly relaxation). Beer. Good. Pizza. Decent. Inside the place: Typical dark trendy wood.

Great neighborhood bar with delicious food and a real nice staff. I recommend the Brussels sprouts, truffle grits, and mushroom pizza. Great wine recommendations and good atmosphere.

I went there last night to have dinner with my family and the food was amazing!!! I got the prosciutto Americano without the prosciutto and Evil Twin. My mom ordered the brussel sprouts, which were also delicious!

This place only opened 2 months ago. Move over Delfina, this is my new favorite pizza in the neighborhood. If you like Delfina pizza(and hate the line, crowded interior, inconsistent service, etc, at Delfina), this place is a must try. It’s a similar wood oven pizza, except the crust is a little lighter and fluffier. My hubby and I tried this for the first time. Had the slow roasted pork and smoked prosciutto pizza. Both were amazing. Per the waitress, the menu is seasonal so the menu is constantly changing depending on what’s in season. The slow roasted pork had a pickled cabbage and Sunday supper sauce. It sounded and looked just ok but tasted amazing. It was similar to eating a pulled pork sandwich but in pizza form. The prosciutto pizza was really tasty too. We intended on ordering 2 pizzas and take home the leftovers for lunch but we plowed through both. I’ll definitely be back.

Nice place. We came three friends to have pizza and beer and everything was awesome. Very good pizzas and a lot of draft beers in the menu.

They’ve got tough competition with delfina’s a few blocks away– this was definitely the worst Napoleon style pizza I’ve ever had in the city– I ordered the mushroom pizza with béchamel sauce– it was so dry, no flavor and only a few dried out mushrooms. She offered to remake it– not worth it. My friend ordered the two bean salad appetizer which was a huge bowl of beans and nothing else. Too much for one person of just beans. Then he had the chicken fried steak– no gravy on top just«on the plate» which made it very dry and greasy tasting. The Brussel sprouts were good, and they offered a good beer and wine selection. But the pizza needs help

Well this place used to be Pizza Inferno. I went looking for Pizza Inferno, but it is now academy bar and kitchen. I got a pizza. It was good albeit maybe a little overpriced. Really nice staff. Good beer selection. Espresso Machine wasn’t set up yet unfortunately. They did have a Foie Gras Peanut Butter and Jelly on the menu though which was enticing evening though I didnt get it. Cool Menu, good vibe, once they get through their teething problems of new restauraunt this place is going to be Bomb! Will deffo be going back again!

Honestly, this place did not live up to my expectations, even though I generally don’t set them very high in the first place. I noticed that the new owners/managers have redecorated the restaurant to fit the profile of a more fancy venue than what existed before(Inferno Pizza). However, something just didn’t click. If you are going to charge min. $ 14 for a pizza, it should it either taste great or be filling. We ordered two different pizzas —(1) Early Girl Tomato Preserve and(2) Wild Mushroom. I will have to agree with some of the previous Unilocalers and say that the pizza is not big enough for what they are charging. When I took a bite(despite being super hungry), my reactions was, «meh.» *Sigh* I really wanted to love them, but I couldn’t do it. Sorry. Maybe if someone in the kitchen beefs up pizza-making skills… What I will give 4 stars to is the beer selection! My two friends ordered two different«sour» beers and they loved it. I guess it’s a rarity around here, so if anything, I suggest coming in for a drink.

Great new place on Fillmore! The sausage pizza I had was yummy, but there are many other menu items to choose from. The soup & mussels were tasty too. Casual atmosphere, bar with TVs, delicious food, extensive beer list, impressive artwork(bonus points) — all make for a happy customer that will return.

Came back for more(twice already!) and happy to report that the full menu is superb. I love how it changes slightly every time I am there to reflect the freshest ingredients available. The short ribs rocked my socks and every single pizza I have tried is top notch. Love every butter bean small plate so far, too. And the beer! Oh the beer. Love me some refreshing Reality Czeck. Yum!

I’ve been to Academy Bar and Kitchen a couple times now as well as ordered take out, since I live just down the street. The first trip was during their soft opening and the food was tasty. The brussel sprout appetizer was very good, though maybe could have been slightly larger for the price(it may also just have been the large dish it was served in making it appear smaller than it really was). I also ordered a pizza that, while well made was quite small, particularly for the $ 16 I paid for it. Overall I chalked it up to the soft opening and was happy to come back to give it another shot. A week or so later I returned to get a couple of beers at the bar and a pizza, I was glad to see the pizza was the standard Neapolitan size you’d expect. I was still a little annoyed by the price though, $ 16 for their Early Girl pie(which is essentially a margherita pizza), you can get just as good of a pizza up Fillmore at Pizzeria Delfina for $ 14. The third time I ordered takeout. I checked the website to see the pizzas and was pleasantly surprised to see the prices lowered by about $ 2. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like whoever set up the website informed them that the prices online differ from the menu in the restaurant. I went to pick up my pizza and was charged $ 16 plus tax. Disappointing, as this part of Fillmore was in need of a pizza place like the Academy. All in all, unless the menu in the actual restaurant changed I will likely not be coming back, which is a shame considering how close to my apartment it is and how excited I was when I saw the news it was replacing Pizza Inferno. Long story short, for the price, head to Delfina.

Stopped into Academy for the 2nd time and felt compelled to post a review, something I rarely do. I won’t gush because that can be unbecoming but an outstanding experience from start to finish. The food is ridiculously good with 5 — 9 options in each of the snacks, garden, entrée, and pizza categories. A lot of very enticing and unique choices. It has a very welcoming feel with a great balance of bar and sit down tables. The type of place you could visit for any occasion. Easy 5 stars, welcome to the neighborhood Academy.

Amazing beer selection and the sausage & fennel pizza was scrumptious. So glad that Academy Bar and Kitchen took over this space. I’ll be going back again and again.
