My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night on the weekend of st pattys day. It was pretty busy in the hotel, and only one guy working the desk, who thought he was funny but just annoying. The room was super small, and no telephone and the closet was unnecessarily big. The light went out in the bathroom while I was trying to take a shower… Although the water pressure was nice. The bathroom was clean and set up w soap and lotion dispensers. The beds were noisy and the walls were super thin and the neighbors kept us up all night, in addition to all the screaming and bus noises and garbage trucks outside. The elevator is old and sketchy and since im pregnant, forced me to walk up stairs More than i wanted. The breakfast was pathetic. toast and packets of oatmeal. they ran out of everything else By 9 when i went Down there and they were out of pancake batter for the pancake maker. Oh well, It’s a good location, and we were able to walk to where we wanted to go, which made the valet parking kind of useless, especially since it takes 20 minutes to get your car. And then the valet guy couldn’t get our car to start so in total we waited 45 minuts for our car and paid 27 $… And ended up having to go with the guy to get the car! I wouldn’t recommend staying here, you could easily pay just as much for holiday inn and have a better experience.

This hotel canceled my reservations with 5 days notice of closing by sending me a 2 sentence email. I made the reservations for several friends…6 rooms…6 months in advance for what I knew was a very busy time in the area. I even confirmed the reservations 3 times over the months.
Well, they closed and I got a major run around from the corporate office who made me believe they would help. After hours of emails and phone calls, they thought giving us smaller rooms with less beds in a closed hotel with no idea the construction (turning it into something else) was appropriate for the same price!
Stay away… run fast!

Affordable pricing compared to many other hotels in the area.
About a 10 – 15 minute walk to Union Square area
A block from city hall
Continental breakfast consists of toast, muffins, pancakes, juice, coffee, and tea
No street parking (but who needs a rental car when there’s such great transportation in SF!)
There are only 2 outlets available to use: one on the bedside lamp and one in the bathroom
No phone in the room
No fridge
Free wi-​fi is a nice concept but it doesn’t work consistently, especially the higher up you get in the hotel
Tons of mirrors! Kinda silly but true.
Old-​school accordion elevator which is cool– only can fit ²⁄₃ people comfortably, ⁴⁄₅ people max (located straight ahead from the entrance past the service desk)
Computer in the lobby for guests to use, but the staff didn’t know how to help my friend fix the printer.
Some of the staff was very friendly and helpful and some of them were terse and rude.

This hotel is simply awful. First, its in a really bad neighborhood. Located two blocks from the homeless shelter — I felt extremely unsafe in the area especially in the evenings. Two people were arrested due to a fight on the street directly outside the hotel one night during our stay. Three cop cars and hours if noise and drama.
Secondly, the rooms are dumpy. We stayed for three nights and had to be moved to a different room each night. Our first room the bed was broken and lying at an angle. The second room the door didn’t lock unless you were inside the room and dead bolted it. The third room smelled like someone smoked an entire pack of cigarettes in the bathroom. The bathrooms were dirty in all rooms. There is only one wall outlet behind the tv. None of the rooms have a phone. None of the windows have screens. the doors to the rooms are so flimsy Im sure someone could break in withut difficulty. Finally, the continental breakfast consists of bread, coffee and juice. The only positive quality about this place was that the front desk staff was friendly and tried to be accommodating. I would highly discourage any traveler from staying at this hotel and my family will never stay here again.

Don’t walk, but RUN away from this dump.
1) There is NO PARKING. You must pay nearly $ 30/​day for their off-​site «valet service,» which means waiting half an hour to get your car.
2) Neighborhood is terrible. Homeless people screaming outside your window until 3am so you can’t sleep.
3) The wall has exactly 1 working power outlet, and it was behind the bed.
4) Room doesn’t even have a phone, even though it’s one of the «amenities» they advertise.
5) The «free wifi» barely works, if at all.
Hotel management doesn’t care, and will put all the blame on you when you complain. And the corporate office for the franchise denies any responsibility for the hotels using their name.
I wouldn’t even let my dog stay here.

Just a warning that the Unilocal deal doesnt apply for stays on friday and saturday nights. I called before purchasing. They lady on the phone was nice, but it sucks that it doesn’t mention this in the fine print.

Great value, perfectly priced.
Recommended for car-​free urbanites. The century-​old hotel is located in the heart of the city near the Civic Center Muni /​BART Station. There are Muni lines to all points of the city from here. The 5 Fulton trolley bus passes directly in front of the hotel providing access to Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach.
My family had a pleasant stay here. The room was clean and met our expectations. By no means fancy, but you get what you pay for, and you don’t have to spend money on amenities you don’t need.

We had a «city view» room and it was NOISY! It faced McAllister street and we could hear the buses running allllll night. Very hard to sleep! Very tiny room, just a king bed, tv, small bistro table and chairs. Bathroom was fine, but no counter space. Water pressure in the shower was very low but the temperature was good! Everything was clean and definitely what you would expect for the price. It has a good location walking distance to basically anywhere! We walked to Chinatown, Union Square… and the hotel has lots of area information and free maps! Was not bad for one night.

I stayed last night and it was clean, my room was tasteful (if quaint), the staff is great, and its in a fine location. It’s in a little pocket of safety between a museum and a university in the otherwise seedy Tenderloin district.

Stay away from this place for a while!!! Its a run down hotel that they are currently remodeling, however they are booking their horrible rooms during the remodel. Holes in the walls, outlet covers missing, dirty dirty windows, the shower curtain is falling off, rust/​dirt on the mattress, no bed frame! NO phones in the room, they refuse to deliver anything to your room. NO parking, only valet for $ 25 a day, and the valet takes 30 mins to get your car.
It sounds like some rooms have been remodeled and are nice, but you might get a horrible room that has not been touched yet.
I asked for the nicest room for my birthday and this is what I got!
Just stay away from this place! its not worth the chance that you will get a bad room.

Stayed here for 2 nights for a convention in town
Pros:
1) Affordable (thanks to the big convention, most hotels in the area had jacked up the pricing and other affordable ones were fully booked)
2) About 10 min walk to union square, moscone center, etc. Very close to civic center (see cons)
3) Short walk to bart station
4) Room was clean, good maid service. requests were taken care of immediately
5) Good water pressure in bathroom. soap, shower gel and shampoo ready
6) Continental breakfast included (starts at 7am). nothing fancy, but very useful when
you are in a hurry
7) In-​room free wifi (connection weak tho), computer and printer at the lobby
Cons:
1) SKETCHY NEIGHBORHOOD. We all know that SF is filled with homeless people, but thanks to its proximity to civic center, there are a lot of homeless people and thug-​lookings around the hotel. I believe there is a shelter nearby as well. I did not feel so safe walking to hotel alone after dark. Morning and afternoons or busy friday nights are okay. Smell of urine, weed, unwashed, etc fills the area (not the hotel though).
2) It’s an old building, and the outside noise can get very loud. My room was on 5^th floor overlooking the city and had a peekaboo view of the city hall — a lot of loud events (rock concerts, gatherings, etc) happen at the civic plaza and it just rocks your room. In the wee hours of the morning you will hear loud trash trucks. I lived in NYC for 4 years and know the city living but still it was quite loud. By the second night I got used to it though.
3) You get what you pay for: rooms are bare. cheap furniture. old bathroom. no phone in the room so you will have to go downstairs talk to the person directly if you need something.
4) No stores or restaurants nearby. There is a mexican place but it didn’t look too welcoming. For dinners I did take-​outs from food court below Westfield mall since I did not want to stay out late as for the reason stated above. Walgreens on Market street sell packed fresh fruits.
5) If your room is right next to the elevator, it can be loud since it’s one of those old fashion ones where you have to shut the metal gate first and then the door.
6) No A/​C, there is a ceiling fan but can get very warm when it’s hot out.
If you are a budget-​minded traveler this hotel would be a good option. It’s old but pretty well-​maintained and not too far from all the action. However, be aware of your surroundings when you walk to or from the hotel.
