Bi-Rite Creamery

When I want ice cream, bi rite is my go to spot! There usually is no line when I go, and even when there is, it goes by pretty fast. Also, if you want to buy a pint/​quart, you can just skip the line.
My favorite flavors so far are crème brûlée and earl grey, and my son’s favorite is the roasted banana. They are all so good, I always end up buying a pint of at least one of them.
I believe they have over 20 unique and yummy flavors, and I’m determined to try all of them!!!

Yummy ice cream!!! They had friendly people working behind the counter ready and willing to give you as many samples as you like. Extra points for reusable spoons! I love that they keep the ice cream at a higher temp for better flavor and scooping.
The winter flavor tangerine dream was aaaaamazing!

The line goes around the block for good reason, but it disappears on a rainy day. I just love their thick, creamy base — and they sell a cookbook so you can try it at home, too! The mexican hot chocolate flavor was awesome (but could have done without the marshmallows), and the coffee ice cream had a very authentic coffee flavor. Other flavors were good, too, but less amp’ed up than I would like.

I thought the crème brûlée ice cream was going to be all hype, then I had one bite and my life was changed! That crunchy sugary bit mixed in the ice cream really made a huge difference. There was a bit of a line when we got there but everything moved pretty fast. Definitely worth a try!

IMO, Bi-​Rite is better than Mitchell’s and Humphrey’s. There, I said it. The one place I won’t mind waiting in line for over 20 minutes, because it’s that good! The flavors are unique, and you can tell they’re made from the freshest ingredients.
Favorites: mint chocolate chip, earl grey, and honey lavender.

Bi-​rite has a plethera of ice cream flavored, both the mundane and the creative. I went the road less travelled and tried the Spicy Hot Chocolate with Marshmellows. The freshly made ice cream had a sweet and spicy taste. Not something I’d normally have but it was pretty refreshing. The creamy ice cream instantly relieves you of the burning sensation.
A must try for some interesting flavors.

One of the best ice cream places in the Bay Area, for good reason! Zagat rated and gets a ¹⁰⁄₁₀ do recommend from yours truly!
Sure Bi-​Rite offers flavors unique and brilliant flavors, are well known for their Salted Caramel and Balsamic Strawberry but I am a huge devotee to their Honey Lavender. Nothing else comes close, I’ve had a runner up at Molly Moon’s but Bi-​Rite proudly still sits pretty on top. I decided to go for a few floral scoops and ended up grabbing my good ol’ pal Honey Lavender paired with their Earl Grey. Dear ice cream gods, is this the taste of your glory? Amen and thank you! Flavors taste as natural as can be, no strange artificial after taste or that weird tickle in your throat after eating something laden with high fructose corn syrup. Creamy ice cream based infused with the flavors they are named after, the honey lavender has sweetness and wonderful lavender floral flavor without tasting like soap and the Earl Grey tastes like a perfectly brewed Earl Grey with cream and sugar. If ice cream is not your thing, they also serve popsicles. If it is your thing, they also sell pints for you to take home!
The shop is always crowded, but lines move quickly. Service goes quick, so either be decisive upon entering or end up holding up the line. The workers never fail to let you try samples, I have yet to try a flavor I didn’t like. You heard right, I don’t discriminate. Prices a bit steep for amount of ice cream, but the quality is so amazing it’s worth every cent! Limited seats inside, but not to worry there are benches outside and Dolores Park is nearby. As for the parking situation, I happened to be in the area for the day and was parked on Valencia. Be aware that parking is a bit difficult around here.

I could eat the Honey Lavender and Salted Caramel on repeat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
With Bi-​Rite, the more «odd» one would think the flavor is, the better it tastes– aka I don’t know a lot of people who would necessarily jump on ordering the honey lavender, the strawberry balsamic, or the brown sugar with ginger swirl, but I’m sure glad I’ve tried them all.
The long line outside rain or shine is worth the wait. Maybe not necessarily if it’s pouring, but you’ll be dry once you make it inside :)

Hi folks, the hype is real. Very real.
That’s why there’s always a line here, rain or shine. It was raining when we got in line, though luckily the line hasn’t quite wrapped around the block yet, which I’ve been told it always does. I’ve lived in the bay for most of my life and never gone here… so my cousins finally decided it’s time to try!
The people are fairly pleasant, and they are totally used to people trying all the flavors (which I totally did!) Everything is very tasty and true to their flavors, though my two flavors of choice were:
Honey lavender: My absolute favorite. Not too sweet, very light, and a hint of both lavender and honey without being overwhelming or tasting like laundry softener.
Crème brûlée: It’s actually a tad strong for my tastes (see honey lavender comment for why) but I had to get it because it tastes EXACTLY like a crème brûlée! Complete with the burnt/​caramelized sugar!!! I have never had an ice cream taste like the frosty clone of an actual dessert (there’s always something off), but this hit it right on the nose! Definitely a must try!
My other cousins’ faves included blue bottle coffee (another light flavor), earl gray (tastes like milk tea), and my boyfriend’s concoction: Eat the pumpkin pie and cinnamon-​snickerdoodle (forgot the name) together and it’ll taste like Thanksgiving!

Really amazing spot in the mission with delicious ice cream and and great attitude. Really fun flavors both by the scoop and also in the cooler as pints. Definitely worth the wait in line (it goes relatively fast) and also worth a trip to the market across the street (it closes earlier than the creamery).
So good, really local spot.

What is the perfect dessert after dinner on a cloudy and wet night? Ice cream, of course! Why would we have anything else!
I’ve had Bi-​Rite bookmarked for the longest time but I haven’t been able to give it a try until a few nights ago. We took my boyfriend, we took our friend, and we headed out to an adventure of a lifetime. Once we got there, we said, «Holy sh**!!» You want to know why? There were a ton of people! What!!! Go home, folks! Stop being odd and eating ice cream in the cold weather!
As we got closer, we noticed that the line was split into two lines. Can’t have a giant line blocking another business! Despite the long line, it moved quite fast. We didn’t have to wait too long until it was our turn. We tried a few flavors and we each decided to pig out!
My boyfriend and I shared three scoops of their yummy ice cream! We went with malted vanilla (which had peanut brittle), cookies and cream, and earl grey. Talk about flavor! Each bite you take or each lick you lick is packed full of flavor. Not only that but their ice cream is SO smooth — like silk almost. If you enjoy tea, you would definitely enjoy the taste of earl grey. Or if you like cookies and cream, you would LOVE Bi-Rite’s version. The malted vanilla was definitely good as well if you like some contrast while eating ice cream with those bits and pieces of peanut brittle mixed in. Nothing was overly done and none of the flavors were «too much.»
We also got to sample their honey lavender, which is a really nice blend as well. We sampled their salted caramel and unfortunately, I did not quite like it. It had way too much salt in it and that almost killed my taste buds.
But overall, Bi-​Rite is definitely the place to go. It is amazing and definitely deserves the high rates with the large amount of reviews. I will return!

Despite the long lines and the freezing cold weather we had to wait in, I have to admit that Bi-​Rite Creamery was very satisfying. The salted caramel ice cream is truly amazing; I can compare it to cinder toffee in ice cream form. If you know what I’m talking about, it’s the best ever. The plus side is that you can ask for as many free samples as you want, so don’t be shy! The serving sizes are pretty generous too, so you’ll get quite a fill!
Check out Bi-​Rite market if you are around the area. Some of the local markets also carry Bi-​Rite pre-​packaged ice cream.

As a San Franciscan, I have to say it’s pretty embarrassing I haven’t checked this place out yet. Probably overrated, I said. I’m sure it’s too expensive, I said. It can’t be that good, I said.
Well I was dead wrong. Not overrated, not too expensive, and it is absolutely DELICIOUS.
The Bi-​Rite Creamery is decorated to perfection, offers a cute array of swag, and has some of the best ice cream in San Francisco.
Overwhelmed by the options, I went with a doub scoop of the Honey Lavender and the Crème Brûlée. The Honey Lavender was delicious– smooth and creamy with a hint of lavender. But the showstopper was the Crème Brûlée! Sprinkled with some hard caramel chunks (the burnt block of sugar atop the well-​known dessert), there was a salty/​sweet dynamic that was a serious gamechanger. Top it off with a little homemade caramel to really knock your socks off.

I haven’t been to Bi-​Rite in a long while but every chance I get to come here I’ll definitely take it.
Pros:
— Near Dolores Park, so definitely take the opportunity to enjoy your ice cream at the park on a sunny day
— They offer a variety of unique flavors (Honey Lavender is pretty popular here, as with the Salted Caramel)
— There’s a little bakery that’s next to it so you can get your pastries there.
— The workers are really insightful and helpful as well, ask for samples and they’ll be very generous with how much you get per sample
— You have the option of ice cream (cone or cup), sundaes, smoothie, or even coffee (nice!)
— Their ice cream is extremely smooth and flavorful
Cons:
— Parking is extremely difficult around this area
— Expect a line coming here, they get a lot of business.
— Slightly pricey for ice cream but money on food is never wasted
— Very small store, not too much space for people to sit in and enjoy their ice cream.
I dig their affrogato.

Long lines are justified just be prepared to wait! Got the coffee and salted caramel which made for a winning combo yumm. Love the flavor offerings and creaminess of the ice-​cream here.
We went at night so opted to sit-​in but had it been daytime definitely would’ve ventured to Dolores to enjoy the view. Terrific ending to a Mission dinner!

8k+ reviews, 10 minute wait, $ 3.25 for a scoop and $ 1 per topping, crème brûlée was tasty, smooth with bits of crunchy caramel. Candy cane was delightful with bits of candy cane. And honey lavender was super florally.
Simple, fresh, and ricanela was sold out at the end of the day! Will return to try ricanela.

My favorite ice cream shop in the whole wide world. One of my dreams is to move to SF and be a short distance from Bi-​Rite so I can buy that salted caramel ice cream in bulk and bring it home where I will consume it like a monster while binge watching shows on Netflix.
My go to combo is the salted caramel and roasted banana. They just go so well together in perfect harmony.
To avoid long lines, do not come after dinner time. If you come right when they open at 11am there is usually no line. Nothing beats getting ice cream right after eating breakfast/​brunch. Or it could be the first thing you eat because eating ice cream as your first meal of the day is totally acceptable (I may or may not have done that on multiple occasions).
Parking is a pain since it’s street parking only. Be prepared to circle a bit since there are lots of good restaurants and shops in the Mission so expect to struggle to find parking. Or hopefully you’ll be lucky like me and snag a spot right across the street from this heavenly spot.
Now I will go get myself a huge scoop of salted caramel ice cream that I brought back home with me on that 8 hour long drive from SF to OC. One day the dream will come true and Bi-​Rite will not be a 8 hour long drive away from my home.

Expect the line out the door. Only because bi-​rite delivers the creamy goodness from first to last bite.
ICE CREAM: Ice cream on a sunny beautiful SF day. Not to mention being so close to one of the most popular parks in the city. Had a couple of tasters but had to go with the flavor of the year, Crème Brûlée! It beat out my usual favorite, honey lavender. But my friend got it so I managed a sneaky bite or two! Crème brûlée was definitely sweet but was melt in your mouth delicious! There’s been sweeter versions. But if I were to do Crème brûlée ice cream again I’d go for the creamy delivery of Bi-​Rite creamery.
Main tip (s):
— If you are just visiting, don’t feel guilty to try out as many flavors as you like. It’s important to enjoy your ice cream– So forget the line & enjoy your time!
— They give little maps for tourists that show you all the extra good walkable places to go to such as Tartine & Dolores Park (helpful for newbies. Like me!)

What I Ordered
— Banana Fudge Ripple and Ricanelas
Yes, I had Bi-​Rite ice cream for breakfast lol. As I was devouring my cone in the car, I already wanted to go back for seconds! T. T Why isn’t there one expanded to SoCal already! Although I got two flavors, my favorite was the Banana Fudge Ripple. I love anything banana so it was a no brainer on this one. ^_^

Bi-​rite has great flavors that will fit in to anyones taste preference.
Although the Salted Caramel is probably their most popular flavor, it wasn’t my scoop of ice cream. I opted for the Snickerdoodle flavor. It was so delicious with real chunks of snickerdoodle cookies.
The seat is limited but you can always walk across the street to sit at Dolores Park (especially if it’s a nice day outside)!

To me, Bi-​rite has the winning formula: use the best, natural ingredients, made in house, etc. etc. There’s not much to say that hasn’t been said already. The fiancé and I went here after our first trip to La Taqueria as the day was absolutely gorgeous and we needed some ice cream stat!
We ordered the singles. She got coffee and coconut. I got mint chip and cookies and cream. Both were outstanding. Their ice cream is very creamy without being so creamy that your mouth is thick with it. The portion sizes are a bit smaller than I think what other shops typically provide you, but the quality outweighs that for me.
We took a walk in Dolores Park with our ice cream and enjoyed the sights. And on that note, we now know where the weed spot is and who deals it, lol. This guy had a ½ gallon bag of it and no f_​_​ks were given as to being stealth about it!

OK, OK, je suis désolée, Bi-​Rite, mais pour moi ce sera un trois pour cette expérience glacée. Je m’attendais à un truc vraiment fou, quand le serveur de notre brunch nous a dit que les glaces de Bi-​Rite étaient bien meilleures que celles de chez Humphry Slocombe où j’avais envie de retourner… et non, en fait, je né suis pas d’accord ! J’ai trouvé les parfums moins originaux et très «américains» (banana split, cookies and creat, mint chip…) et du coup c’est purement une question de goût, mais ça m’a moins plu.
Rassurez-​vous, ma cookies and cream était quand même bonne, mais vraiment sucrée et bien bien grasse, j’ai eu un peu l’impression de manger un pot de Ben & J*rry’s… avec la culpabilité qui va avec !
3 étoiles tout de même parce que je suis peut-​être juste tombée sur le mauvais parfum, et parce que le lieu est vraiment canon tout de même, et pour le plaisir de manger la glacé posées dans Alamo Square au soleil !

Gleich zu Beginn muss ich sagen, ich habe in San Francisco gelebt und es gibt kein besseres Eis als bei Bi Rite!
Ihr müsst mit einer Schlange rechnen, die besonders lang ist gegen 5pm, wenn alle Feierabend haben und sich mit Eis und Bier in den gegenüberliegenden Dolores Park setzen wollen. Weil aber immer mindestens 3 Mitarbeiter hinter der Theke bedienen, geht das auch relativ schnell und ich habe nie mehr als 10 Minuten auf mein Eis warten müssen.
Zu den Eissorten ist zu sagen, dass alles organic ist und alles in der hauseigenen Bäckerei bzw. Creamery gemacht wird.
Es gibt standart Eissorten, die immer da sind, wie Honey Lavender oder Vanilla Peanut Brittle, es gibt aber auch saisonale Sorten, die ihr unbedingt probieren solltet, z.B. Crème Brulee oder mein absoluter Favorit Ricalenas (Zimteis mit Snickerdoodle Cookiestückchen).

Wenn ihr zum Picknick in den Park geht, liegt schräg gegenüber übrigens der Bi-​Rite Supermarkt mit jeder menge anderen «organic» Leckereien!

Todo mundo gosta de sorvete, mas existem sorvetes e sorvetes! Aqueles que são super cremosos, mega saborosos e que só de lembrar seus olhos brilham? Então esse é o tipo de sorvete que você vai encontrar na Bi-​Rite.
Eu já imaginava que devia ser bom, já que olhando da esquina você já percebe uma fila gigante de pessoas. E filas em SF é um sinal de reconhecimento por algo de qualidade e que vale a pena esperar.
Entramos na fila e algo como 10 minutos depois já estávamos com o sorvete na mão.
Eu pedi uma casquinha de waffle com sorvete chocolate tchou, mas na verdade morri de inveja da minha amiga que comeu o salt caramel.
Os sabores sempre mudam, então enquanto você espera pode ler os que estão disponíveis e escolher o que prefere comer. É tempo suficiente, até pros indecisos (aka euzinha).
Se você quiser provar o sorvete do Bi-​Rite mas não faz questão que seja de massa, pode andar um pouquinho mais e duas casas na frente tem um daqueles estilo sorvete do Mc Donald’s, não sei se é bom, nunca provei!

Genial heladería donde pasarse a comprar un helado para disfrutarlo en el cercano Dolores Park. Los sabores cambian de día en día lo que hace que cada visita sea diferente. En función del día y del tiempo puede que te encuentres una larga cola para comprar sus helados, si no es excesiva merece la pena la espera.

Cette crèmière est tout simplement géniale! Si vous allez à san Francisco il faut y aller! j’ai goûté à trois sortes de crème glacée. Il y en avait une au miel et lavande, une au gâteau au fromage! Wow! C’était délicieux!!! Le service est rapide. Je vous le recommande! Il y a un grand choix de crème glacée. C’est de la crème glacée dure.

On s’est retrouvé dans le quartier en plein 18^th st block party, autant vous dire qu’il y avait beaucoup beaucoup de monde… heureusement chez Bi-​Rite ils avaient prévu le coup et ils avaient installé un stand soft serve avec choix restreint aux parfums du jour, à savoir: vanille/​chocolat
Les glaces sont servies en cup ou en cone, et le format regular size était à 3,50 $
Ce né sont certes pas les meilleures glaces que j’ai mangé mais elles étaient tout de même bien bonnes, pas trop sucrées et de mon côté je n’ai pas de souci avec les cuillères en bois donc tout va bien ! :)
Ce qui est cool c’est que s’il fait beau, vous pouvez prendre votre glacé à emporter et aller la manger sur l’herbe du Dolores Park juste à côté

Passage obligé à l’établissement qui a le plus d’évaluations de l’histoire de Unilocal!
Ce n’est honnetement pas les meilleures cremes glacées que j’ai mangé, le honey lavender que j’ai prise avait trop le gout de lavande et crème, pas trop de miel; celui au coffee toffee de mon frère était vraiment trop fort en café; le cookies and cream en deça de celui de Haagen Dazs (desolée c’est mon étalon pour ce parfum là). Le meilleur était celui à la citrouille, mais ils sont fort les americains pour tout ce qui est citrouille!
Bön point: ce n’est pas trop sucré, les parfums sympas, la part belle à la crème
ce que j’ai moins aimé: j’ai la hantise des cuillères en bois, l’impression de sucer du bois, ca n’a pas manqué ici!

Wer in SanFrancisco ist, muss diese Creamery ausprobieren! Hier gibt es ganz spezielle Sorten, mein Favorit war das Honig-​Lavendel Eis.
Die Creamery ist sehr klein aber gemütlich. Meistens holt man sich das Eis und verspeist es unterwegs oder gleich um die Ecke im Dolores Park.
Aber Achtung: Bi-​Rite Creamery ist schon längst kein Geheimtipp mehr und der Ansturm kann gewaltig sein. Bis zu 20 Minuten anstehen kann durchaus mal vorkommen — die Warteschlange reicht dann das ganze Trottoir entlang. Aber ehrlich: Auch 30 Minuten anstehen würden sich lohnen!

Ich liebe diesen Ort. Wer Eis mag soll hierhin gehen.
Eigentlich reichen mein Rating und die Worte oben völlig aus. Trotzdem möchte ich kurz schildern, was einem hier erwartet.
Gleich beim Dolores Park in San Francisco liegt die Bi-​Rite Creamery, eine etwas alternative Eisdiele. Alternativ im Sinne von alternativen Geschmacksrichtungen. Schonmal Honig-​Lavendel-​Eis probiert? Oder Basilikum-​Erdbeer? Oder Aceto Balsamico? Na also.
Manchmal staut sich die Schlange der anstehenden Feinschmeckern bis um die Ecke des Hauses. Manchmal aber auch nicht. Einfach hingehen, wenn nötig anstehen und dann geniessen. Am besten bei einem Spaziergang durch den Park.

Bestes Eis auf unserer 3 Wochen Kalifornien Reise. Und wir haben viel ausprobiert.

My favourite is «Ricanelas,» I like icecreams that have cookies, piece of cheese or dough in them. My second favourite is «Balsamic Strawberry» which is one of the cool staffs suggested me. I also really enjoyed eating «Mint Chip.» My favourite mint ice cream in this world for sure. All of them were honestly so delicious and tasted so fresh for me, but I prefer other flavours than Salted Carmel. I like Salted Carmel as well, but that was a bit more plain than my expectation. I’ll try Balsamic Strawberry, Mint Chip, Honey Lavender, Ricanelas and Toasted Coconut again in my next travel, and also want to try other new flavours.
Most of them were the suggestions from the staffs, and I was impressed that the staffs were all nice to me. They also told me good restaurants near Dolores Park, and I also enjoyed foods there. Also, this place is in the really nice peaceful area the store was clean, pretty and cozy. I enjoyed walking in Castro and Valencia Street.
I recommended here for three friends I met in a hostel. They all liked. My favourite ice cream store in California, I hope I can find new nice ice cream stores in LA or San Diego next time. I highly recommend here for people who love sweets and ice creams.
