Found this place by chance while walking around San Francisco. This place is a great place to grab a beer and enjoy the outdoors. The atmosphere is one of a patio setting with just a relaxing vibe. All the beverages are German which I would have expected given the name. They had food there it looked good but we did not get any. Overall a great place to enjoy San Francisco’s sunny weather when it is available. would definitely come back again

What a great place to hang out! I love Biergarten. I am a lover of all beers and delicious bar food and Biergarten delivers on both accounts. + ATMOSPHERE: Outdoors, very hip, tons of picnic table style seating, twinkly string lights, and food truck-ish vibes. I’ve been here twice so far; once after work and once right when they opened on a Sunday. After work, it was CRAZYPACKED. Like brimming with techies and hipsters. EVERYWHERE. It’s hard to find a seat. The other time, we got there right when it opened at 1PM ish so it wasn’t packed but it filled up within the hour. So definitely try to plan accordingly because it’ll be hard to find seating unless you’re lucky. Biergarten is very casual and a great spot to hang out with friends. It’s sort of like someone’s backyard hang out spot. It’s chill. It’s cool. I dig it. + BEER/FOOD: The beer is expensive(typical of SF of course). Choices are somewhat limited. But very good beers. There are half liter and full liter options. I think most of the liters were ~$ 20 and half liters ranged from ~$ 8 – 10 each. Tons of food on the menu though! So many German food options! I ordered the pretzel because I wasn’t incredibly hungry. It came with some spicy mustard and horse radish. DELISH. SOSOFT. I love soft pretzels. I wanna try the other food on the menu! My friend ordered the Guest Knot and he thoroughly enjoyed it as well. + THEFINALVERDICT: Biergarten is a great German inspired beer garden. I’m a fan of course, but mostly for the atmosphere. I love the outdoor seating and how everything’s set up. It’s a perfect place to chill and hang out with friends. Very casual and laid back. The food and beer is solid. There are more choices for food than there are for beers, which is a little upsetting because I love my beer — but I can deal because I mainly come here to hang out.

I’m a sucker for cute outdoor seating, string lights, and great beer so Biergarten is the ultimate trifecta. All of the tables have long benches that are perfect for groups, but make sure to come early because it tends to get pretty packed. I’ve tried some of the food here too and although I’m not the biggest fan of German food, everything I’ve tried has been surprisingly tasty. Overall, make sure to check this place out if you haven’t already — smitten ice cream is next door as an added bonus :)

I don’t know if I would even consider this a «beer garden.» More of just some picnic tables set up in between hipster central of smitten ice cream and blue bottle coffee. Only 4 or so beers on draft($ 8 +) and one white, one red wine option. A bit overpriced and nothing too exciting. I think there are better patio + beer + food combos in the area for a better price.

I organized a happy hour for an alum group I volunteer for here. It gets crowded when the weather’s nice out, so come before 3 or get ready to wait in line ~40−60 minutes for food + beer. It’s a nice, relaxing spot to relax with a stein(is that how you spell that?) and some friends on a sunny day though and people are really friendly. The tables seat ~8 so you’ll likely end up sharing with strangers. Tip: bring sunglasses and sunscreen. It’s easy to lose track of time and get sunburnt here.

One of my favorite places to grab a drink in SF on a sunny day. Pricey but the beers are consistently good. We also had the frankfurter and brat dog with curried potatoes to share. Loved the curried potatoes and the Frankfurter. Didn’t love the brat dog. Line is super inefficient and painfully slow but service is kind. Seating is all picnic tables so you may sit next to strangers and make a new friend as we did. There were children there so it’s kid friendly so which many bars are not.

Good beer, good food, relaxed atmosphere, good crowd, decent prices The line does get long, but worth it. It’s become my 1st stop after the flight in from NY to grab a beer have a light snack before getting my vaca started. There is a little park across the street, which is closed to traffic, and its in Hayes Valley a great neighborhood filled with great restaurants, bakeries, other goodies and cute shops. I love Biergarten!!!

It is what it sounds like — an outdoor area(no indoor space) with picnic tables, cute lighting, and BEER. A half liter for their 4 draft beers was $ 9, and a full liter in a stein was $ 18. I enjoyed the vivacious yet laidback atmosphere, but that crazy line that came with it – not so much. I think my group stayed at the same table for about 3 hours and each time I snuck a peek back at the line, it never got any shorter! On a weekend, I’d say expect to wait at least 30 minutes to order your food and drink. That’s the price you pay for doing something that everyone else wants to do in SF I GUESS! Other tips: – They don’t allow you to move their tables around even though they’re oriented somewhat awkwardly. I saw multiple groups getting told off for attempting to shift their tables. – Grab a blanket if it gets cold! All in all, good vibes & clean bathrooms, but I’d appreciate more beers on draft and a faster moving line!

I like Hayes Valley. I like deviled eggs. I like beer. I love bratwurst(Y’all should know that by now!). I love the fun environment. I love people watching while stuffing my face. I don’t know how I can walk out of here and still have Smitten’s ice cream afterward… I highly recommend this place for a casual dining. I hope you give Biergarten a try. Cheers!

I ethically and morally cannot give any less than five stars to a bar that serves perfect German beer, in steins, on a sunny patio, with pretzels and sausages available as needed. There are piles of blankets if it gets chilly, and lots of UV rays for those of us who are vitamin D deprived.

A nice big space but line to order is quite long. And not much shade so beware of sunburn on very sunny days. Food is good. Its a very popular place, I guess thats why theres no motivation to move the line faster.

This place is a great hangout spot with friends or a date, right next to smitten’ ice cream too! The only downside is that it closes at 8pm, which makes it challenging if you’re trying to get a beer after work. Their beer selection is small but worthwhile. The food is really great here, pork belly sliders are amazing and burger is super flavorful too.

I love this place for so many reasons. I only wish they could stay open later, but I’m guessing it must be a noise issue considering this place is completely outdoors(aside from the shipping containers). The Biergarten is a really cool spot located in Hayes Valley. It’s perfect for the warmer summertime, but they do open in the winter. Look for the blankets if you’re cold! They serve beer here(obviously) in giant steins which is a lot of fun. They also have a pretty well-sized menu full of German food! I really love their purple deviled eggs as well as and of their sausages. It’s all great and the vibe of this place is just a ton of fun. Also props to the employees here for basically serving us right around closing. I felt bad coming in so late, but it’s really tough to stop by here considering how early they close. Thank you for serving us and making it a great night!

I stumbled upon this place due to the fact that it’s the day after Christmas and souvla was closed, arggg I know!!! I came here and the setting was really cool and hipster. The menu was light on entrees, all I got was the light lager that they serve, coolest part is that they only serve half liters and liters, the price was very reasonable, I paid $ 8 for a half liter. The beer itself was smooth and on point. The next time I come I will definitely dine here since I regret not doing so, their menu seems to change regularly and today they offered different types of tacos. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves beer, I would make sure I’d go on a day it’s not raining since its out in the open. Can’t wait to come back and try one of their 1 liter mugs

A pretty darn perfect place to hang out with friends — or just the people nearby — on any given«nice» day(or night). The beer — giant. I’d like more of a variety, but admittedly I’m a girly beer drinker. Still, there’s something so satisfying about drinking out of a beer stein the size of your head, with some good heft to it. The snacks — exactly right. What goes better with a giant beer than a giant pretzel? Or, really good, pickled deviled eggs? #recommended The atmosphere — picnic tables, string lighting, the heart of Hayes Valley. Worth spending some time.

Wonderful outdoor seating, and awesomely large liter beers. My boyfriend, his brother, and I visited this place when we were in SF for our usual foodie trips. We waited out in the line before the place even opened, so we got in, ordered, and got seated fairly quickly. I would definitely say this place is not cheap, especially with all that beer — a liter comes out to about $ 18. For food, we got the soft pretzel, currywurst, and pickled things. Overall, all of them were typical bar food, and mostly tasted good in tandem with the beer. I would definitely come back in the future!

Biergarten is a great spot if you want to have drinks while enjoying the warm weather outside. If you are hosting your underage younger sibling from out of town, this is the perfect place because they don’t ID until you buy a beer! So they can sit, hang out, eat food, and not feel guilty for severely limiting everyone’s activities. «Garden» is a stretch of a description, but it is a concrete garden smack dab in the middle of the city, with open seating and picnic tables blocked off by a chain link fence. The surrounding area(Hayes Valley) is fantastic, with many great options for dinner or brunch, cute clothing shops and dessert stores, and there is an actual green park area just across the street. Right now they have a giant wooden temple and an art wall there too, and sometimes there are pop-up markets, so walking around can be fun. Pro-tips: 1. Go early to snag a table — they are hard to get. Don’t be surprised if you end up sharing one with strangers. 2. If you are meeting friends, the line is just for food/beer, not to get inside. 3. If you’re unsure about the weather, dress warm — it’s often chilly, and you’ll be outside the whole time. There are no heat lamps, but they do have blankets in the storage container. 4. Their beers are great and can come in giant glasses! I also liked the Pork Belly Sliders(9).

Ernsthaft? Da fliege ich um die halbe Welt um Weihenstephan Weizen aus einem 1L Krug zu trinken? Ja. Tu ich. Und ich muss sagen, es war eine gute Einstimmung für den Heimflug. Nach 2 Wochen USA weiß man dann was man vermisst.

«Oh look! A long line! It must be good! Should we stand in it?» The answer is an enthusiastic ‘Yes!‘ There are many lines you can stand in here in this great city. But if you’re a true San Franciscan and really want to stand in line, Biergarten is for you! You get to stand in line for 40 minutes while you start to suffer from dehydration. You order 1 Liter of beer because you convince yourself you’re that thirsty and you can drink it all. You chug a third of it and feel better. In fact, you feel GREAT. Then your pretzel comes out and you eat it so fast, you look around to decide who’d want to perform the Heimlich Maneuver when the inevitable choking will happen. You don’t choke and you’re still alive. But now you’re so thirsty from all the salt you chug another third of your beer. You feel OK. You look around and have an epiphany over whether this is what life is all about. You decide that it is and you attempt to drink the last third of your beer. You almost throw up. Your friends are convinced that you did throw up. Whatever. They don’t understand. They drag out out and take you home. You feel great.

First time at Biergarten since living here! I’ve seen it, heard about it as a great place to go on warm nights, etc. When it was 80 degrees last Thursday, I decided to come. Lines were long, very long. My friend told me there as a separate line for food, so I went up to the front to look around, and when I asked the RUDE employee(the one with the long beard) about the line, he snarkily said yes, that’s the line, you would wait like anyone else. I’m sorry, who taught you how to treat customers WHOHAVENEVERBEENTHERE? It’s not unheard of to have two lines like you see at Shake Shack for dessert and all other foods in another line. What a d — . Suffice to say that was a mood killer for such a great day. So I had the gnome burger and a cheese knot. The burger was good but small and $ 7, and the cheese knot was just okay for me. I liked the atmosphere and the lights at twilight. Would I come back? Maybe if I was forced to, but get some more polite staff… please!
