Always great. Prices have gone up a bit but 3 dishes will last me 4 – 5 meals. Food was cooked fast and sizzling hot! I wish they were open late

This place has cheap prices and a little above average when it comes to the flavor department. The portions are also very generous… I would have probably given this place 4 stars if it weren’t for my last experience at this little hole-in-the-wall. It was towards the end of the day and the cook seemed a bit rushed considering there was a line and only about 20 minutes left in the day… He took my money and immediately went for a head of lettuce and began chopping away, then stuck same hand into a bowl of uncooked noodles and just kept on cooking. Yep, health score of 69 seems about right. Needless to say, I turned my head and I was hungry. So I ate the entire thing anyways, it was delicious. 3 Stars for me! If the food sucked, this would probably be a 1 star review… but the man works hard and cooks pretty decent food for a very cheap price.

Basically if you want the cheapest, biggest, fastest meal in Excelsior, this is your spot. But quality… wouldn’t go that far. There are a lot of Chinese options on Mission, and while I was originally heading to Chef Hunan, I figured I’d be different and go with Chopsticks. The warning of the low health score came up on the Unilocal app, which was interesting, but as others had said, I put this behind me and went in. The place is as hole in the wall as you can get — 3 tables, a huge printed menu on the wall, and the rest is the kitchen. I ordered Mongolian Beef and Shrimp Fried Rice, which came out to barely over $ 10. i told you, cheap. Now I will say watching the chef and possibly owner crank out the food was fascinating. He has this down to a science cleaning out the big walk after every meal, and with the variety of sauces nearby so that he doesn’t need to move. He made my food, and another to go order in a few minutes. Really fascinating. The Mongolian beef was definitely cheap beef, and the sauce was hit or miss per bite. Again, stick with Chef Hunan. The Fried Rice was the most watery fried rice I’ve ever had. I think there was a piece of carrot or two, but mostly slightly cooked rice. I wasn’t the only person in here for lunch. There were some blue collar workers, and a few people picking up food for their office, so if you’re willing to set aside quality for quantity, definitely make this a stop.

You can disregard the Unilocal warning about poor food safety score. When it comes to Chinese restaurants, the lower the inspection score, the better the food. You think if you go to China, the ‘authentic’ food you eat from the street vendors or the shops will come from a Michelin Star kitchen? No. So stop whining. The owner is the cook. The cook is the owner. The guy is working hard. If he is spending most of his time bleaching the place, who the hell is going to cook your food because you can’t even boil an egg to survive? I enjoy my hole in the wall food but that was just down right disgusting. the worst fried rice ive ever had. The pork tasted months old and there was black tar on the rice from the bottom of the wok. please head over to superstar instead

Definitely a hole in the wall, mom & pop kinda place. Totally worth it. One box of food can probably feed me for 3 – 5 meals. That’s only $ 5 bucks cash. Seriously this place is too cheap to be true. The humble couple here works so hard to WOK up the food for you. The WOK is huge and has a strong flame which is what Chinese food needs to taste good. Consistency probably needs to be work on but who is perfect anyways? They don’t MEASURE the ingredients by little spoons and cups like your local chain stores; they just eye it! The poor guy working all day long with that big WOK, makes me think of the wrist pains & shoulder aches that comes with feeding his neighbors day in & day out for all these years… What sacrifice! Considering the cost & location, some of their customers has the wrong expectation in mind. This is no fancy pansy restaurant where everything is perfect with pink flowers and a burning candle on your table. YES there may be a lil’ burnt in your food(there wasn’t any of my food), OK there might be some inconsistency with the taste, YES, the décor is way out dated & the walls need to be repainted from all the years of STRONg WOK oil grease ending up on them… NO fancy customer service, new renovations or fancy designs in the store… NOPE… this is how they keep the cost down!!! DUH. ORDERTOGO, take the great tasting Chinese food to your fancy pansy home to eat like a queen. I’m so full after this meal. and I still wasn’t able to finish the food. Where have I been all this time not even knowing this place existed?! I want to try a lot of dishes here. Probably bring my parents to try since they love Chinese food too. It’s such a good deal. Can probably order a box and take it home to feed the whole family haha. Maybe when you get home add some greens to it or throw in a sunny side up. :) I had the curry beef(yummy), also tried the sweet and sour chicken(Decent) has the right flavors. Gotta eat everything while it’s hot, although I feel like the curry beef tasted better after it got cold. Well I’ll be back… TO be continued…

Best bang for your buck as far as Chinese food goes. The chef/owner is a smooth dude. Enjoy him woking it up, really an art form. Everything I’ve tried is really good, not sure if msg is present but I wouldn’t rule it out. Still, love this hole in the wall

+ The owner is very nice and friendly. He tend to greet his customer, says«thank you» or «please come again.» Please be aware that he has limited English speaking skills. So if you ask him questions in English about the menu, he might not be able to answer your question. Also, keep in mind that he is usually the only one working there. — Be aware of the fried rice with«black sticky stuffs from the bottom of the pan.» If you like the«smokey» taste, good for you. But if you are like a clean freak like me, you might throw up, because that’s all the dirty oil and burnt pieces toppings for your fried rice! + 1 star for the nice customer service from the owner + 1 star for the generous portion(feeds 2 people) + 1 star for the no MSG taste — 1 star for the uncleanliness Overall, still a great place to dine-in or get take out from!

My sweet and sour chicken tasted like more like old shrimp. One of the worst meals I’ve paid to eat. It might be okay if you’re hammered and want to spend less than 10 bucks.

Full 5STARS because you really get your bang for your buck here. Chopsticks is one of those places near home that I’ve never considered checking out until now and I’ve totally been missing out. I got the Beef with Tomato Over Rice to go for $ 5.09 after tax and it was absolutely delicious. Portions are HUGE(a takeout box filled to the brim) and it fed me for 3 meals(literally). The guy was very generous with the beef and didn’t skimp on anything. The flavor of the dish wasn’t lacking either. You really get the whole package: cheap, large portions, delicious. Will definitely be a regular here on out.

This place is a hit or miss. Gotta take a star away for not being consistent with the quality. Aiyah… he has to clean the wok better after every order… see lil burnt stuff in the food arg!

I used to go here as a teen in High School. Ever since I moved back to the city I decided it to give it a shot to see if it’s still as good as I remembered it… and yeah it was. I got the chicken fried rice and mongolian beef. And yeah that stuff was probably some of the best I’ve ever had. Note: It is a literal mom and pop store. I think a husband and wife own and operate it. Be wary since there are only 2 people running it the food may be a bit of a wait if the store is busy. Don’t be discouraged though the food is well worth it. Also this place is cash only don’t forget to bring some bills.

This is a mom and pop shop. Very small, with maybe 3 tables, a little dark inside, but the food and price will definitely fix the problem. A rice plate is under $ 5 and a la carte, is $ 6.69. You can watch the owner cook up your food right in front of you, and he literally takes no more than 3 minutes to cook your food. It’s Amazing watching him cook. This is a cash only place. So far, I have only tried: Kung Pao chicken: this is the best in my opinion. It’s spicy, and has good flavors. He puts mainly zucchini and chicken in the dish. Definitely worth the try. 8⁄10 rating Mongolian beef: this dish was about average. There was a lot of onions but he gave a decent amount of beef. Sauce was okay. 6⁄10 rating Sweet and sour chicken: yum. sweet and sour chicken! He doesn’t over batter your chicken like most Chinese restaurants. He actually puts only a thin coating of batter, so that you can actually taste the chicken. Good sauce. Definitely worth a try as well. 7⁄10 rating If you’re in the neighborhood, and you don’t mind possibly sharing tables with someone,(you could meet a new friend!) then this is definitely one of the places you need to try some Chinese food at.(while you’re in this neighborhood.)

I’ve been coming here since ’00 when I moved to the Excelsior. The chow mein is, or was, tops. I had no reason to give them a shitty rating, but am doing so now because I had a very bizarre exchange with the guy who cooks and runs it(it’s a tiny storefront place), just one hour ago. I walked in at 6pm(it was a Saturday) and dude was sitting there reading the newspaper. No other customers in the place. I asked for shrimp chow mein, with extra shrimp. He growled something unintelligible about shrimp, so I asked him if they were out of shrimp. He angrily said«no extra shrimp.» I said«I’ll pay for extra shrimp.» He replies, openly HOSTILE now after no provocation, «no extra shrimp no extra ANYTHING.» I’ve gotten extra shrimp every single time I’ve ordered from him before. I haven’t been by in about a year, so maybe he, uhh, has changed his rules, but even so, this guy was so inexplicably infuriated that I asked for extra shrimp, you’d think I just took a shit on his floor. I walked out without a word. Don’t give this guy your money.

This place as probably been open longer than I was born. I remember this place still standing since I was on elementary school and even today they still have the same sign hanging above their shop. I came here once when I was craving for some Chinese food. I ordered the beef and broccoli and beef chow fun. Both were quite decent and really got seeing as it came straight from the wok. I’m surprised it didn’t melt through the plastic container. Both came up to be under 10 bucks. Both were quite good, but the noodles could have been less salty and less bean sprouts.

–Best bang for your buck! –All servings are enough for 2! –Super fast and delicious! –Friendly service –Primarily fast food/to go so don’t expect the fanciest surroundings I come here a lot to grab my lunch or dinner for work and I always have leftovers. And if you get tired of ordering the same dish, try something else! All the dishes are superb and sure to satisfy.

If you’re looking for low prices and large portions, this is the place for you. There are very reasonably priced dishes(chicken fried rice is $ 4.79)! On the other hand, I think the food is lousy. Parts of my dish were under spiced(needed salt) and other parts of my dish tasted like other dishes(the wok needs to be deep cleaned and seasoned). He is a one man show and he cooks to order, but I’m not coming back! 2 stars, because it is super cheap!!!

Nice people. Communication can be a problem but only if you want to order anything off the menu. Huge portions. It’s a simple hole in the wall place so don’t expect fancy surrounds. It’s the food that counts!

It’s always those hole in the wall places that give you the best food for an amazing price. Chop Sticks lives up to my expectations for cheap, greasy good, and filling Chinese food without breaking the bank. I would not normally step food into a dimly lit restaurant with only a few tables and no one else eating inside. Against my better judgement, I decided to go in and give it a try because the ratings were good, despite the fact that the place looks like it hasn’t been remodeled in years. If the food was bad, I’d only be down a few bucks and would be writing about it. Well I’m giving them 3.5 stars because I’m impressed with the food. The portions are huge! The Mongolian Beef was spicy and done much better than most restaurants. I’ve eaten the dish many times at other restaurants before so I use that as a measurement of how well the food is prepared. My friend ordered chicken chow mein with thick noodles and the portion was equally large. For under $ 10 for two people, this is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat. I suggest taking things to go unless you’re really hungry and have to eat here. There are only a few tables and the kitchen is literally right in front of you. There is no waiter service and you have to pay for tea.

Super-ultra-über cheap Chinese food! This hole-in-the-wall has been in business for decades, no idea when it started. It’s unbelievable the low prices he charges being a small restaurant that has chairs and table to dine in. Prices start at $ 3.59, most rice plates are $ 3.99(most popular), and most entrees are $ 5.99 with nothing above $ 6.99. Big portions, a lot of rice. I’m not gonna rave that the food is fantastic because u can most definitely get better elsewhere(for a higher price of course). Hence my 3 star rating, which means it’s okay. Other reviewers are correct that this business deserves praise. Mr Chui(I think that’s his name) is a one man kitchen tornado that manages to do prep, cook, assemble and package food orders by himself. Sometimes his wife is there helping, but most of the time it’s just him. He even accepts custom orders. No food warmer trays here, everything is cooked to order. It’s remarkable to see this hard working man in action. Cash only. Hours: I forgot to check, will update later.
