C’est Magnifique! Alors, mes amies Cocotte est tres romantique. Cocotte has to be one of my favorite restaurants in the entire city of SF. I recently re located from the concrete jungle(SoMa) to Russian Hill in an effort to be more of a native. Reservations were easy to snag via OpenTable. My friends and I started off with a bottle of white and scallops to share. The waitress kindly suggested her favorites and we told her about our entrée selection which made choosing a white super easy. For our main, we ordered Coq Au Vin, potato gratin and the half chicken. Absolutely delicious and the sauce from Coq au vin was the perfect dip for our baguette. Overall, the restaurant is a bit on the louder side and would be best suited for an intimate dinner or date. The window seating looks very appealing. I will be back here for sure!

One of my fav places on Hyde. Food and service are consistently good. It’s a small place, intimate and has an open kitchen. I would suggest to make reservations because this place can get packed easily. They have wide windows that are opened during warm/hot days and it makes the place seem bigger. I suggest this place all the time.

Great neighborhood restaurant, with fantastic service. We had an early dinner reservation due to a show, so the place pretty empty when we got there. The staff was engaging, and the chef talked to us quite a bit. It is clear that he loves cooking, and seeing the place fill up is «showtime» for him. We started out with the Mussels Poulette. I lobbied for splitting them(the boyfriend wasn’t too excited), but we ended up having to fight for every last morsel. The creamy buttery sauce begged for crusty bread to sop up every last bit. Little bits of pancetta and trumpet mushrooms complimented the cooked-to-perfection mussels. It’s a must have. My boyfriend had the Butcher’s Cut(which was a tender juicy bone-in pork chop). Served with of wilted kale, and this incredible cheesy, creamy, almost pudding-like polenta. I had to beg him to at least leave the bone on the plate. I had the Pork Belly. Fat was nicely rendered, with a gorgeous crispy skin. A luscious soft cooked egg made for a nice«sauce» to mix into the bulgur. Since we had more wine(ha), we HAD to have dessert. We had Cherries served with a soft Financier cake. Again, the boyfriend was not enthused about ordering(claimed he was full). And again I had to fight him for at least half. Wine list is good, with generous pours. The server took time to explain the options, asking what each of us liked and disliked in a wine.

I really liked this restaurant when I went last year. It had delicious food and friendly staff — 5 stars for both. However, I got food poisoning from the fish dish I ordered(it must’ve been the fish because my boyfriend and I shared everything else and he was fine afterwards). So disappointed because I really really loved the food! It doesn’t sound like any other reviewers have suffered my fate, so I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe in another year when the memory has worn off, I’ll give it another try.

My boyfriend decided on this restaurant for our anniversary dinner. He had reserved the little nook with curtains, which I thought was super adorable. We ordered: 1) meat platter: we both like the pâté the best. It actually went best with the complimentary bread rather than the walnut and raisin toast that it came with. Interestingly, the complimentary bread also came with very garlicky tapenade, which I also enjoyed and I am not a fan of olives. I think the garlic drew me in. 2) Soup of the day: sunchokes with pumpkin seeds. It was pretty good and the pumpkin seeds added a nice crunch to it. 3) Rotisserie chicken: the chicken was dry, and the skin was fairly salty. I actually wasn’t a huge fan of any of the 3 sauces that came with the chicken, and we were glad we went with the half chicken instead of whole chicken entrée. We chose the potato gratin with goat cheese as our cocotte to go with this dish, and this was definitely the best dish out of everything we got! It was creamy with a nice slightly burnt cheese to the top. 4) Parpardelle: homemade for sure, and a fairly large dish but not very memorable otherwise. We also got a glass of wine to share. Speaking of sharing, they encourage diners to share food with one another but made it very difficult to do so. Our waitress seemed to always be in a hurry and didn’t make us feel welcome. We’d flag her down for an extra bowl and she’d leave before we could ask her for an extra spoon for the soup. My boyfriend had read online that we could draw the curtains to have a truly private dining experience. When we tried to draw the curtains, we were told by the waitstaff that it wasn’t allowed. Maybe it’s against the fire code? Whatever the reason, we were pretty disappointed since it was so loud. Despite being in our own secluded corner/nook, the noise in the restaurant seemed unusually loud for the venue. The service was overall the biggest turnoff to this place and the food was not enough to make up for it. We probably won’t be back.

Disappointed. Haterade reviews mentioned natty & possibly drugged-out service. So you KNOW I came to see the real illnana tweaked out twerked out d.r.a.m.a. drama. But each employee interaction I had was polite & shizz. Eff that. Yeah the name and *some* menu items are French, but don’t get caught up — my meal was more British x Mexican x Japanese x Southern if anything. Plus waitress adopted my slang(amusing), and they played a jazz song sampled by A Tribe Called Quest. (^_^) Beef Filet Wellington $ 33 Traded my Will & Kate fridge for this. (^_^) Beef Tartar & Foie Gras Tacos $ 14 Gawd yes. (^_^) Broccoli Di Ciccio $ 6 Tempura w Hail Caesar dressing. (^_^) Iced Tea $ 4 Duh. Zut zut et zut! Je me souviens. Je reviendrai mzafzas. Over the years, I’ve become better at budgeting. I’ve gotten so good at it that I can now afford to spend money on a wonderful dinner on a random Tuesday evening.(kidding, I’m in denial. I don’t look at my credit card statements!) I’m even more fortunate to have eager Unilocal friends who respond with an excited«YES!» when I send an invite out. That’s what( Unilocal) friends are for, right? Cocotte popped up on the search for a cute restaurant in the Nob Hill area. The cable car tracks are right outside, it’s frequented by locals and it’s the opposite of trendy! I like that. It’s a very welcoming neighborhood space. We enjoyed a feast of rustic French fare. From moules marinieres(tantalizing broth and plump mussels!), exquisite rotisserie chicken, mouth watering beef wellington with indulgent bone marrow, luxurious foie gras, a massive butcher cut pork chop and other tasty options. We also ordered several desserts. I mean, when you go out with Unilocalers, you go all OUT. I’m a die hard fan of duck and it’s pretty much a given I’ll order it 99.9% of the time when I’m at a French restaurant. The duck leg confit here has just the right amount of salty, crispy skin with moist MMMeat served over farro pilaf, freshened with spring onions and watercress; drizzled with blood orange au jus. Superb! I don’t duck around when it comes to duck, that’s foie sure! ;-) I hope to return to the warm loving embrace that is Cocotte. You should also put this on your list if you’re craving for rotisserie in a non-fussy environment. Bön appetit!

Such a pity. I liked this restaurant and had been a number of times with friends and family. Won’t be going again I’m afraid. My girlfriend and her friend had been sitting at the bar for about 20 mins when I arrived. They had ordered food from the happy hour menu which was due to end at 630. It was 628! The bar man who had taken their order had bolted into the main restaurant. I’ve seen that in a lot of places. Fortunately the hostess spotted our waving and said not to worry. She knew the girls had been there for a while and she would hook us up. She took my food order and said the bar man would take the wine. He sauntered back a few mins later and just gave a weird smile saying he couldn’t take the happy hour order. We pressed him and said that a) he’d bolted b) the girls had been there for a while as they sat with food in front of them and c) the hostess had nicely said that she’d help out. He just gave the sleazy smile again and said no. Now I get the fundamentals of a happy hour. But if you hit the road at the death it defeats the purpose. Also if you’re a complete asshole to customers you’ve got some bigger problems. Like me telling everyone about this guy. Pity.

Fergusen and I had dinner there one night. Some nice hits and a few misses. They are quite open about letting people know that parking is a pain in the butt in that neighborhood, so we took a cab there. You can also catch a cable car if it’s not packed with tourists. Got in and seated. Overall very nice décor, ambiance. We had an appetizer that was a stuffed piquian pepper and I piggishly had the foie gras. The pepper was outstanding; the foie gras was great too, but not as eye-openingly delicious. We then ordered mains, Fergie having the beef wellington and I ordering the coc au vin. The coc was as expected. Fergie had a bite or two of his wellington and we traded. It was a less extravagant version of the classic and sadly, failed to live up to expectations. We’ll definately go back, just wont have the well-e, sticking to the more traditional rotisserie chicken and sides that looked so tempting.

Went there for dinner recently(were not there for a restaurant week meal) We had the beet salad, ½ chicken, Pyramid Ravioli, banana crème brûlée and another dessert. Service was great. We never waited long on the wait staff, food came out at a good pace, chicken was cooked perfectly for each section and paired with great sauces, ravioli had very good flavor. My dessert was the only so so dish, but was still good enough. Would definitely go back, which is how I judge restaurants.

My boyfriend and I went to Cocotte for SF restaurant week and we were extremely disappointed by the food. Our rating goes as follows: Service: 4 Ambiance: 5 Wine list: 2 Food: 2(for the price and our expectations, I would rate it 1, however overall it was 2) The restaurant has an intimate setting. Even though we were very close to the couple next to us, it still felt like a great date location. I ordered the only Chardonnay available by the glass(which was poured to fill less than half of the glass). My boyfriend got a few beers, which were tasty, however they were the worst pours I’ve ever seen(there were about three inches between the foam and the rim of the glass). My boyfriend and I shared the clam chowder, sweet potato ravioli, and mint chocolate cake from the restaurant week menu as well as an additional entrée: the coq au vin. All of our plates were extremely disappointing. The sweet potato ravioli was too sweet, the coq au vin was too salty and not flavorful enough, and the mint chocolate cake/clam chowder were very average. Overall, I would never go back and wouldn’t recommend it to a friend. As I’m writing this, my boyfriend just said«That was the worst fancy restaurant I’ve ever been to.» I think that says all.

Truly disappointed. I’d say it felt even worse, because one of my favorite SF restaurants is just across the street. That being said, the food and price point was one of the most disappointing SF experiences I’ve had to date. The friendly staff and beautiful location is all great, but then I had the food and I was just sorely sorely disappointed like I haven’t been in a long time. I had the Coq Au Vin(a French classic) as well as the butcher’s cut which ended up being the Restaurant week featured Pork Shank Osso Bucco. Wow, maybe they were too busy for their Restaurant week clientele, but the food came so bland, undercooked, and a hot mess. For the price point of $ 20+ a dish, with a couple of glasses of wine, I really felt like I had been robbed with my experience tonight. The Coq Au Vin felt anything but slowly cooked in wine, pancetta, carrots with the hen. It was seriously viscous and bland that felt like it was rushed together. As for the osso bucco, I know pork is usually dry and blander, but wow it was also just rushed and bland. I think the fact it was featured in the Restaurant week portion just meant a lot of quantity and little quality. The kale and polenta was sadly the most prominent feature of this dish. When it came to the pork and natural jus, it was jus disappointing(haha apologies for the pun). Anyways, considering the plethora of quality French restaurants in SF, I’m sad to say Cocotte will not be one I visit again.

There was not a single bad here. The wife and I loved our first experience from start to finish. The beef tartare with fois inside a crispy taco shell kicked off the delicious journey followed by the mussels where we dipped the crispy baguette and without hesitation took the offer for more bread to soak up the lemon wine broth. Our main courses of sweet potato ravioli and beef Wellington with bone marrow pleased the palette. But the high note, and I will dream about this dish, was the banana crème brûlée. So sinful it was heavenly. Will definitely be back.

My god The hostess greets us with«if your other 2 in your party don’t show up in 5 minutes we are going to cancel your reservation» –how do you recover from that tone? Really honestly happy to order for the 4 of us. We all showed up but the flavor of the hostess was like spoiled milk. The food was very good. But honestly fire the front door hostess and teach kindness. Nice bar tender.

Such a sweet little French bistro! This restaurant is just a few blocks from my daughter’s apartment so we love to walk down and spend an hour in France! The waiter was — yep — French and so cute. The food is wonderful! We split soup and scallops and they were presented most beautifully and the food was flavorful and not too heavy. Good wine — great service — really nice little neighborhood restaurant. Great place for a date!

I’ve got to say i had higher expectations for this place. It’s about 3 blocks from my place, had great reviews and i was able to make a last minute reservation on opentable so i was stoked to go there. It’s a cute little place, from the outside looks perfect for date night but it was actually really loud inside and was hard for us to hear each other from across the table. we started with the salmon crudo because it sounded amazing, but the fish was very salty so it killed the freshness of the salmon & the sauce on the bottom was a little overpowering. It also had fried capers which i love, but made the dish even more salty. for entrees, the chicken was dry and underwhelming.

This place is amazing. I started with the endive salad($ 9.00) which had blood orange segments, candy peacn, raspberry pomegranate vinaigrette, aged manchego cheese. It was lovely. For my main course I ordered the rainbow trout($ 25) with maple glazed dumpling squash, potato nest, pomegranate beurre blanc. Great portion size and absolutely delicious. Had the Brussel sprouts($ 7.00) on the side. The best part though, was the dessert. I might go back tonight just for that. I had the chocolate molten lava cake(at least I think that’s what it was called). Liquid, rich chocolate Center. Mmmmm.

This review is based solely on the«scumbag staff» service. Just like all the other 1 – 3 star reviews, the service here is horrible. First off, waitress #1 seemed to be annoyed while answering my questions about soup, side, and butcher cut of the day. Maybe she didn’t like my straight forward, mono-man voice… BUTSTILL! At least be a little more cheerful if you want more than that stupid mandatory 20% tip for table of 5 or more! Then the tall guy with medium length hair, ‘stache and tattoos on the arm was so persistent on me ordering more food even when I said we’re not that hungry. I just wanted to share the dinky tacos and mussels(which was more than enough) with my manfriend. But no, this guy kept insisting me to get an entrée too. So fine, I ordered the beef wellington. By the way, their entrees don’t come with sides. I felt like I got tricked into getting a side by the way he asked, «What would you like for your sides?» instead of, «Would you like a side with that?» So we ordered fries since we thought a side came with the entrée. This is entirely our fault for believing that, but this guy is very sly with how he talks. Same goes for my friend, she ordered mussels and the waiter convinced her that fries would go really well with that, so she ordered fries too. We ended up ordering 3 orders of fries. Now that I think about it, he should’ve said one order of fries was enough for all six of us to share. I wish he had some integrity towards his customers. ANDTHEN, waitress #2 comes by and asks if we needed a box for the fries we barely even ate. HELLO?! Our entrees didn’t even come out yet! Is that customary in America? Is it cuz we AZN? Ya’ll wanted to kick us out cuz we the only AZNs here?! LOL NEEEEXT! They were really bad at refilling our water and picking up finished plates. The waiters saw the empty plates and bottles, but didn’t bother to do anything about it. I felt that the busser had better service than the waiters – someone, PLEASE give him a raise. And FINALLY, the check. Just like Unilocal reviewer, Jeff B., we had an issue with«Scum staff» regarding the bill. The waiter with the tattoo stated the printer was broken so he issued us a handwritten check. When we got the check, it only had the total, 18% tip(we calculated this from the total that was given to us), and a grand total. We added up what we ordered(from the actual menu) and our total was different from their total. We brought it up to the waiter and he was insisting he was right — even though everyone in our party double checked our calculation. The grand total seemed really off so we told the waitresses to give us an itemized check. We started to argue until the waiter told one of us to go up to the computer to look at the whole bill. Low and behold, if we had received an itemized check from the beginning, we would have realized there was an extra item added onto our bill and we would have been able to correct this mistake and avoided the whole argument! In the end, he didn’t bother to say sorry for all the inconveniences AND the embarrassment he caused. I wanted to confront him about that, but I was afraid«scumbag staff» would retaliate by overcharging my card. P. S. Food was good and parking is a b*tch unless you have a Smart Car like me.

Wife and I ordered the Beef Tartar with Fois Gras for a starter, Beef Wellington, and Duck Breast. It was all some of the best dishes we’ve had in a very long time. Worth every cent. Absolutely excellent. We are at the bar as they were booked and the bartender paired our meal with the perfect wines. We will 100% add this to the list of places in San Francisco we look forward to returning to.

Thanks to Janice C, I finally had dinner at Cocotte on Tuesday, November 24th at 7:30pm. Janice made a reservation for 5 people via OpenTable a couple weeks prior. Starters: *Meat platter: bressola(cured beef), duck salami sausage, local dry coppa, chicken liver terrine, grain mustard, pickled vegetables, walnut & raisin toast($ 18) *Beef tartar & foie gras tacos: hand-cut beef tartar, capers, cornichons, shallots, grated foie gras, pickled red onion, crema fresca($ 14) x2 *Mussels marinieres: lemon, white wine, salted butter, shallot($ 13) *Duck foie gras mi-cuit: poached red wine bartlett pear, toasted house made brioche($ 22) I’m a huge charcuterie fan, so I loved the meat platter. The mussels were plump and the sauce delish! I haven’t had foie in a while, so mi-cuit was a treat! The tacos didn’t have much foie flavor, but I do love crunchy tacos so this was a nice play on beef tartar. Mains and Les Cocottes: *Organic Petaluma chicken rotisserie served with romesco sauce, arugula pesto, creamy porcini sauce accompanied by a cocotte of your choice: Cauliflower & espelette pepper gratin($ 32 whole chicken) *Beef wellington: maitake mushrooms, veal jus, bone marrow, breadcrumbs($ 33) *Duck leg confit: oven farro pilaf, spring onion, blood orange gastrique jus, living watercress($ 24) *Butcher cut: Pork($ 28) *Spinach: golden raisins, garlic apple cider($ 7) *Hand-cut french fries: lemon aioli($ 7) *Cocotte of the day: Brussels sprouts($ 7) I adored the special which was pork. I love a nicely cooked piece of pig. Mmmmm… meat! The duck was deliciously tender. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the beef wellington due to the puff pastry, but surprisely, I did. And that piece of bone marrow? Sooo good! I’d skip the chicken next time as it was super dry and overcooked. At least the breast piece I tried to eat was. My favorite cocotte was the cauliflower gratin. And I don’t even really like cauliflower. It was deliciously creamy. Like potatoes au gratin. I love spinach, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the raisins. My least favorite cocotte was the brussels. They were a little undercooked and needed more oomph. They just tasted like cooked brussels which I found kind of boring. Desserts: *Banana crème brûlée($ 7) *Profiterolles: marsalla raisin ice cream, almonds, chocolate sauce($ 7) Must have dessert is the banana brulee. Although the bananas keep it from having that hard sugary crust, I adore banana desserts and a good crème brûlée, so this married the two well. I’m not a huge chocolate person so I only had a bite or so of the profiterolles. Everyone in my party enjoyed them though. Drinks: *Château respide-medeville graves ’11, Bordeaux, France($ 55) *City cellars($ 15 glass) *Pied a terre cab($ 15 glass) *Porto($ 14 glass) x2 *Muscat($ 14 glass) What’s dinner without drinks?! I told the server I wanted a good red that was moderately price. Told him I’m a cab girl and he suggested the Graves. This worked great for our party! I also had a follow up glass of wine that he suggested as well. I believe it was the Pied a terre cab though. I actually enjoyed that glass more as it was a bolder red. Cocotte has a charming neighborhood restaurant feel to it. A great place to have dinner with a wonderful group of friends. Note: Remember to check your bill to see if they added gratuity to it already. We were a party of 5 and they added an automatic 20% gratuity.(I always thought this only happened to parties of 6 or more. I guess every restaurant is different.) I’m glad we noticed or else we may have tipped on top of that.

What a wonderful, tiny, intimate, dining experience! Letting my friend take the lead on dinner, we found Cocotte. Our table shared the organic rotisserie chicken, which on its own is amazing, but then add the 3 dipping sauces! Wow… Unfortunately, I don’t think they offer the porcini mushroom sauce in gallon sizes to go. Our 2 cocotte choices were incredible, as well. We chose the cauliflower and the potato. Both perfect. I loved how tiny the restaurant was, and can imagine sipping a glass of wine near the window, during the rain, and watching the world go by. Warm & cozy. Our service was wonderful. The wine was wonderful. The food, ambiance, and even our table neighbor was wonderful.

What a cozy little space! The service was top notch and we were seated next to the display kitchen which is always fun. The food is contemporary for the most part. The foie gras terrine was literally a slice of heaven, though I must say there was almost too much for one person. We shared it and it was just right. The beef Wellington was ok, but not a classic, the duxelles were replaced with sliced mushrooms, and for some reason the filet was in two pieces. Maybe they’d folded the tail over instead of using the full filet? Not as good as at home. It was served with a marrow bone, with garlic and parsley. Meh. You couldn’t taste the arrow for garlic. I had the roasted chicken and it was PERFECT. Really. Crispy skin and juicy lusciousness. Not overly salty but flavorful and succulent. I don’t normally order it in restaurants but I would go back for this one.

The restaurant is super cute and romantic, so fantastic ambience for a date. There’s a bar near the front and an assortment of small tables near the back. I found our server to be very brusque, at least until she delivered the check at the end at which point she became very friendly. Given that she seemed to be the only one serving tables, that might also have been part of the problem. in any case, my boyfriend ordered the coq au vin, which had a divine flavor and tender chicken. I ordered the duck leg, and found the flavor to be lacking, as well as the duck to be dry. Given that there are so many great little French restaurants in SF that do the duck so well(Le Charm, Le P’tit Laurent, Chapeau!), it was pretty disappointing. In any case, given the romantic ambience, and the fact that my boyfriend loves this place, I’ll chalk it up to bad ordering on my part and hopefully pick better next time!

I liked Cocotte on a recent Friday night visit and would probably revisit but a few things were not so great. First of all I had a sole dish that was way overcooked and oversalted. It was served on a bed of a bunch of other stuff including pickled beets which were inedible(practically raw and impossible to cut with a knife). In all this dish is a fail because the concept is a bit highfalutin’ and unnecessary — «seared petrale sole, pickled beets, golden raisins and garlic, lemon yogurt and dill». Best part of my meal were probably the french fries and the few nibbles I had of the duck foie gras. The chocolate cake fondant was dry and not particularly flavorful, other than a little bit of fondant. Wouldn’t order that again. The thing that made the evening was my great dining companions, but of course it being a Friday the noise level was high so it was more than a little difficult to converse. No surprises there. Service was not exactly attentive but when the restaurant is full I don’t know how the wait staff negotiates that room — it’s hard to find a path to get through!

Listen up Lovies, 1) You must get the Duck Platter. 2) Indulge on their delicious BANANACREMEBRULEE. 3) Enjoy a class of wine. I’ve had good meals at Cocotte in the past. Each time I’m back to visit, they never disappoint. Great value, great portions, excellent food, and friendly attentive staff. This can be a great date night place and it quite cute too! The only downside about this place is the location, so hard to find parking. Other than that, I’m a fan. I hope you give this quaint place a try. Cheers! The simple things in life.

Made a reservation for SF Restaurant Week at 6PM on a Saturday. It was relatively empty when we came at 6, there were only about 3 tables seated and a group at the bar area. By 6:30, it was packed! It also seemed like everyone had reservations also. We were quickly seated and were given the regular menu, the SFRW menu and the drinks menu. The SFRW menu now reflects their menu posted online! I think the change was made after the ban on foie gras was removed. After ordering, we decided to check in on Unilocal/look at Cocotte’s photos/reviews. We were quickly told to get off our phones to enjoy the meal. Food wasn’t even here yet. Felt attacked as we were the only ones told to put our phones away, and was unfortunately unable to get a photo of our appetizers. For appetizers we ordered the Chicken Liver and Foie Gras Parfait and Mussels Provencale(But I think we got mussels with white wine sauce instead). It was my first time having foie gras, and it was pretty good! I enjoyed the combination of the parfait with the berries on the side. As for the mussels, this was probably the first time where they weren’t overcooked! Each mussel was still plump, silky, and juicy! There was one bad mussel though at the end, it smelled deadly. For entrees we got the Salmon with Squid Ink Risotto and Handmade Fettuccine with Truffles. The fettuccine was sub-par, even with the truffles. It was bland and the serving was extremely small, just not that amazing. The salmon on the other was, was delicious! It was surprising, because the sauce tasted like Thai curry, so it had a bit of Asian flare in it. The salmon itself was so moist and soft, mmmmmmm so good. The risotto also did not disappoint. My boyfriend was a bit wary of the color but he enjoyed it as well! There was also some type of chips on it? Maybe plantain? But it was yummy as well. For desserts we go the Banana Crème Brûlée and the Molten Chocolate Cake. The desserts was probably the best part of the meal. The chocolate was warm and had chocolate flowing inside of it. The crème brûlée had the best caramel topping, so crunchy still! Overall, would probably not come here again, but I’m glad I got to try Cocotte. P.S Pretty difficult trying to find street parking, we gave up after 10 minutes of driving around. Parking at the Jug Shop cost $ 10, and was a 10 minute walk. There was also Cheese Plus nearby to walk around afterwards! They do «coat checks» aka hang your jackets on one coat tree. Thought it was kinda silly but cute.
