Just wanted to update my review to say that Jil McDonald is the best! I have been coming to Descend Salon and seeing Jil for all of my haircut and highlight needs for the past 7 years. I uploaded two photos as well of my awesome recent haircut and highlight work.

I have been going to Jil McDonald for 8 years now and every time I see her I am amazed by her talent. I am extremely picky about my hair but when I am in Jil’s hands I trust her so much that I let her make the decisions. She is really great at asking questions and figuring out exactly what you want. When I first started going to Jil, I was a blonde and she was the master of highlights. A few years ago I was ready for a bold change (after 15 years of blonde) and wanted to go dark brunette. I was really nervous but Jil picked the perfect color for my skin and I couldn’t have been happier! Her cuts and color are so beautifully executed that even 3 months after I get my hair done I still get compliments! She is sweet, intelligent, fun to talk to and genuinely cares about her clients. Jil is truly a gifted hair stylist and I am lucky I found her. I NEVER write Unilocal reviews but I know how hard it is to find someone you trust with your hair and I am hoping this review will help you just as it helped me 8 years ago. The Salon is also fabulous! Wine, tea and a cozy/​modern environment. I always walk out of Descend Salon feeling beautiful and confidant thanks to Jil!

I have been a regular at Descend for almost 8 years now! I have been fully faithful to Jewels (Julie) Jones. She is Amazing. She is very patient, has an extremely good eye, and always incorporates what you want into her vision! Pure perfection. I have known her for so long that I now consider her my friend. She is very personable and always buys me little gifts :)

Jil McDonald ALWAYS amazes me! I am so glad I found her! She’s given me some of the best haircuts I’ve ever had (long layers, long bob, etc). She’s also given me beautiful balayage over the summer, a golden chestnut brown for my wedding (trusted no one else with this!) and today she gave me the prettiest ash brown highlights! I love how she listens and then transforms my hair to exactly what I want. Go see Jil! She has so much talent and passion — plus she is so sweet and fun! Thank you, Jil!

Jewels Jones has been my stylist for many years at Descend Salon. She has done my hair for Burning Man, weddings, my album cover, performances, and the list goes on and on. I have tried a gazillion different styles with her and she has a unique way of combining classic with edgy that rocks. I love my extensions from her as well. And the whole ambiance at Descend is exceptional. Robert is outstanding. He is so warm, generous, and customer-​centric — engaging in real and meaningful conversations… oh and even when someone cut out their power line he helped to make the experience memorable by serving champagne! I won’t go anywhere else.

Amy Estrada is the best! She’s worked a miracle giving me a cut, color and styling tips to restore my dried and processed hair into healthy, fabulous natural curls. Not only is she a fabulous stylist but I love her high energy and friendly personality. I look forward to catching up on celebrity gossip and girl talk while getting gorgeous hair.

Monica Rae has to be one of the best colorists in San Francisco. She nailed exactly what I wanted for the color for my wedding, and I still get compliments on my color 2 months later. If you know what you want for your cut or color, she will magically transform your vision into reality.
I love seeing Monica at Descend because she always picks up our conversation exactly where we left off. She makes me feel like both a close friend and VIP customer.

Alexandra Drew has done a great job with my color and cut. She really listened to what I wanted but was also willing to give her advice. I highly recommend her!

Christina Martinez is amazing. Flexible with your needs, available and has a nice demeanor.

Lindsey did such a great job on my blonde highlights. My hair is such a pain, it turns orange and red with highlights and it usually takes a new stylist multiple attempts to get it right which ends up damaging my hair but Not Lindsey! She also added low lights and a week later added purple highlights to the ends of my hair which came out perfectly!!! I had no idea how I wanted to add the purple and she’s like, I got you girl and added them in such a cute perfect way. She is super attentive and quick and funny, great conversations each time. I am so excited to have such a talented stylist.

Jil McDonald is the best! I’ve been getting my hair cut and colored (balayage) with her for the past year. I’ve lived in SF for over 5 years and have never found a stylist/​colorist that I’ve loved and continued to go to, but have finally found one! Jil makes you feel super comfortable and really listens to what you want. I always leave the salon loving my hair and feeling great. I also love that the balayage color grows out really naturally and I don’t have to touch up all the time.

Monica Rae is my color/​cut/​style guru. I’ve consulted and trusted her with all things hair for over 10 years now. She is the first (and only!) stylist/​colorist that not only produces incredible results but has an innate talent for reading client’s nuances to nail total satisfaction every time.
Despite never knowing the acute or technical wording of whatever look I’m trying to achieve — she’s never failed to take an idea and run with it; leaving me instagram-​worthy in no time.
I have followed Monica to each of her locations and couldn’t be happier with her new home. The salon is in a great location in the city (cow hollow) with a fantastic staff and cohesive, energetic vibe.

Jewel (Julie) Jones is a fantastic hairstylist! Although my hair is very thick and difficult to work with, she gave me an excellent look that lasted for weeks. She was very careful to ask me throughout the haircut if the look was what I wanted — but she also had great ideas about what would suit the shape of my face. She took her time with my haircut, even though others were waiting for their appointments, because she wanted to make it perfect. And she told them she would do the same for them.
I had been going to other salons and paying a lot only to get sub standard results. I’m
so glad I found Julie at the Descend Salon! Her skills and professionalism make the haircut worth every penny. Not to mention that she gave me some cool tips on how to keep my hair in good health after the haircut! Thanks so much, Julie!!!

Jewels is AMAZING!!!
I had been traumatized by so many haircuts in the past that I hadn’t had my hair cut at a salon in 7 years. I had been cutting it myself because I have always been disappointed with paying way too much money for getting my own hair destroyed. Then I met Jewels. I came into Descend not expecting too much. I brought a photo of what I was looking for and she gave me the best haircut I have ever received in my entire life.
She talked me through the entire process, why she was doing what. What each and every product was used for and how to achieve the look I was hoping for. THANK YOU SO MUCH JEWELS! I will definitely be back to see her because she is literally the only stylist I trust.

Jewels Jones is amazing!
I went in knowing I was in need of a transformation… and that’s exactly what I got!
At first she was thinking of doing a good trim… but once I told her that I’m willing to go short and put everything into her hands she was enthusiastic and spirited in knowing what she wanted to do with my do ;)
She cut 12−15inches off and styled it perfectly for my hair texture and face shape! I feel brand new! It really was time to let go of all that dead hair anyways. Plus it looks so much better this length! Her insight was spot on!!!
She really knows what she is doing, and that’s why I am glad I trusted her with my hair project!
