Great customer service! Front desk was courteous and clear throughout the whole process!

I rented a unit last year for an event that I was coming to town for. They were so accommodating and helpful, every staff member was great and I spoke with a few. They called me with package questions and paid close attention to detail with my needs. I will definitely be renting from them again!

This place sucks its dirty, opens late, and has 2 rude employees.
Mike and Kayla are the best.

The manager Mike was GREAT!!!
He helped me even when he was closing and gave me extra time to move in, staying with me 45 minutes after closing. He was a class act indeed and I am looking forward to working with him!!!

The sign up process was very smooth. Its all done electronically so no annoying paperwork. They also have user friendly direct billing and online account management.
The units themselves are modest, but priced competitively. No roll up doors like typical storage facility.

Update: Moved out since they’ve increased my rent 50% in the past 2 years; I got yet another rent increase notification so I left. Overall they’re much more aggressive about this than other storage companies I’ve used.
Also, recall that when I arrived they did not have the space that I had reserved, and they force-​upsold me to a more expensive unit. This seems to be consistent practice, judging from similar reviews posted here. I would especially dis-​recommend this place to anyone who needs to move here from out-​of-​town, since they will trick you into getting a more expensive unit out of necessity.
Since they close so early, the high price is not worth it in any case. Today I hired movers and went to a cheaper place in a safer location with ²⁴⁄₇ access (this part of Folsom St. is pretty ghetto).
In addition, this facility shuts down fairly often due to events on Folsom St, construction, etc. They give advance warning, but it’s pretty inconvenient. The short hours on the weekend are the worst since they are closed during the week when I get back from work.
Workers there usually seem pretty unhappy. I don’t blame them — they have to deal with a lot of sketchy characters wandering in off the street who probably live in these storage units. The place I moved to today has a much more positive vibe.
It’s not the very worst option, but there are better. (Final little annoyance: to log into the website to your account, you have to type username, password, and ALSO select your state and then select the SF location from a HUGE list. It’s surprisingly annoying. They should know that based on your username…)

Nah it’s alright. You wouldn’t wanna go here at night but since they close so weirdly early that shouldn’t be an issue anyways.
We brought all our boxes and furniture here in between moving from one apartment in SF to the next.
We chose extra space because it was conveniently close and cheap. The prices changed however after the first month and we ended up paying way more than we would’ve anywhere else.
They were however always pretty helpful and understanding when we had issues with extending our storage unit lease etc

We’ve had the need to use storage facilities for business and personal needs over the last decade and the experience has been mixed. We are extremely satisfied with both the facilities and the service at EXTRA SPACE STORAGE. The place is very clean and well managed. From day one, Mathias and his team have provided excellent support and a willingness to «go the extra mile» when necessary. The most recent example is that we were expecting a delivery of two pallets of materials for an event the next day. The freight company told us to be available between noon and 4:00 p. m and that they would call us one hour before delivery. (We work just 10 minutes away.) We were in meetings all morning with phones off and at 11:45 picked up a message the trucker left at 10:30 a.m. saying he was pulling around the corner NOW.
We zoomed across town from the client site and arrived to find that not only had Mathias received the shipment for us, he put it in our unit! That, folks, is exceptional service. No storage facility has ever done that for us! (Let us again say: «Thank you, Mathias, for saving our butts! The Paulaner is coming!»)
In addition to the extraordinary, the day-​to-​day is pretty great too. The facility is clean, easy to use and very conveniently located. We are extremely pleased with EXTRA SPACE STORAGE and plan to have a «home» there for our business for the foreseeable future.

I only needed to store somethings away for just a few weeks. Luckily they had a deal for me where the first month was literally free so I only got away with paying for the «admin» fees and insurance which came about to $ 35/​hour. I also got lucky with getting one of the bigger storages, 8 by 10 which was located in the first floor.

My experience with this location has not been great, I rented a locker but quickly moved out. I think they can manage how their customers are using these space, I think many of them are using it more than just storage. 2 times I stopped by I can see people almost using it as «living space», price is cheaper than these around this area, but you got what you paid for, I guess.

I just moved my stuff into a storage unit, so I am only starting my experience with Extraspace. So far, it has been worthwhile in every way possible (cost, efficiency, customer service, reliability, etc)! The staff is helpful and friendly (especially Mike the manager and the young lady who helped me one day).
–The other guy (not Mike) who wears the glasses doesn’t seem to enjoy working there, so I avoid him.
The only downside is the company’s regular customer. There are many squatters, and possibly even homeless people who rent storage units and USE them to the max (from what I have seen). However, this is probably the case with ALL storage unit facilities (since they are so much more affordable than renting, especially in SF).
Thus, I still give 5 stars, and even better, Extraspace only allows customers to access their storage units when the facility is open (when the employees are there).

I have stored with extra space storage for over five years now and i can say that they are the best in the biz! They are fair and honest with everyone they serve, and they are always willing to help. When i started here The Manager was Mark he was very helpful and fair and always willing to work on solutions to those issues that arise. The current staff are the most professional group of people i ever encountered! Mike the new manager took over for Mark and didn’t miss a beat, he’s friendly, intelligent, and skilled in working with people and giving enough of his time and experience to make things work for the greater good! Of course he was shown the ropes by Lita the assistant manager who helped him through the training. Lita is devoted to this place, she pours her heart and soul and wisdom into this place from open till close and does not play around when it comes to her career. Kaylee is a model of service and is a pleasure to have known, with her sweet pleasant phone voice and polite manners she is a rare gem in an edgy city! mattious the newest addition to the crew is a perfect gentlemen he helps everyone and everyone is happy! Bottom line, if you want storage to be an effortless pleasant experience and not a burden go with extra space for there is none better anywhere!!! Public storage steal from their clients by default, Extra space would rather you get your things and allow you to do so even if your bill is past due. Nobody else does that for the customer and that is a big big thing. Thank you guys i love all of you!!!

My unit was burglarized! All of the silver, china, crystal, collectibles, small flat screen tv, living room lamps, clothes — gone! And they had a lot of time to do the job. They went through some of the boxes to dig out the really good stuff. My unit had been totally ransacked.
No camera footage or records of the alarmed unit door resetting itself. Told by manager Mike that is was just too much footage to go through. Also, they were having problems with their alarm system in December, January, and February. Mike said he conducted an investigation but I do not believe him. The whole thing stinks.
Beware!!! No reliable security systems in place, arbitrary rent increases, uncooperative staff, and really sketchy people always loitering around.
When I discovered that the alarm system was a failure, I requested a rent rebate for the month of February. I was denied because, «That’s what insurance is for.» Nice way to do business!

Update!
They raised my rent again, just a few months after my last increase. It’s now $ 85/​mo instead of $ 62, which is a pretty big jump for 1.5 years.
So that means see you later, greedy extra space!

Mike Gradone, the store manager s awesome to work with! After making a reservation for a storage unit online and following up with a phone call with a couple of inquiries, Mike put all of my questions to rest and assured me that the unit was confirmed and if I ended needing additional space the day of (since I was not certain if the unit I booked was able to hold all our items), that would not be a problem. I ended up in the area the next day and wanted to visually see the space I booked online and Mike took the time to show me the unit as well as additional units that might suit our need. He’s professional and a joy to work with and assisted with the paperwork/​contract effortlessly. I was in and out in no time.

I have had a unit at Extra Space Storage on Folsom for about six weeks now. I wanted to see how the first month went before Unilocaling with my review. So far… so good. The facility is clean as a facility like this should be, however, it seems to raise the bar amongst other self storage places I’ve seen. The people who work here were great when I was shopping for a unit that would be the best for me and have continued to show the same willingness now that I am settled in.
I have seen the people that may or may not be homeless and there has never been any problems or issues with them or anyone else. Everyone is busy with their storage space just as I have been. I’m reminded that I could easily find myself in the same situation given the right circumstances and I am thankful that I have a home, that this is just my extra stuff, and not the total of everything I own in life.
Some good things… there is a good size moving truck available to help you move your stuff if you need one and it is FREE. They have a big elevator for big things as well as regular sized one for common trips. The hours are pretty good and work for me, however, Sunday’s hours of operation could go longer than 4pm as weekends are when I am off and have more time. Not a biggie… maybe they’ll consider longer hours on Sunday in the future. The place seems very secure and there are video cameras monitoring the place ²⁴⁄₇.
I wish there was a water fountain… there might be one that I haven’t found yet but the staff has provided a cup of water on request and I have learned to just remember to bring a water bottle from home.
All in all, I am very satisfied with my self storage experience here at Extra Space. I think if you have storage needs and you’re looking for a clean, safe, and reliable place to put your extra stuff, you will be very satisfied putting it here.

So although everyone is nice there, I felt like I was bamboozled into renting a bigger space for more money. I reserved for a space with tee special first months free but when I got there, they showed me the space and there was this Giant round pillar (holding up the building) in the middle of the space. Needless to say, I asked if they had another. I was then shown a bigger space which was nice but there was no special other than half off $ 260 for the first month. Why would you think someone wants to rent a «SPACE» that has a huge pillar in the middle of the space?!? So although they were nice to find me another space and did not comp the same special advertised for the Pillar-​Space, I think the experience could have been better.

Okay, this location gets a bit of flak in most reviews. Let’s set the record a bit.
1) Best location to get a decently priced rental unit in a decent area of the city that you can get to with normal transportation. You’re close the on-​ramps /​off-​ramps for the major highways and you can usually find street parking or if you’re lucky can park in the garage (space very limited).
2) The security is good. They do watch the units with live-​feed cameras and are on top of the security doors. Sure, there is a line to use the restroom by every bum in the area in the morning, but if you’re worried about that, it’s only on the first floor and it’s fairly minor.
3) If you’re weirded out by the locals, yea, they’re weird. But so are you. So now feel comfortable.
Not sure about the rate increases everyone was talking about, but I had a larger unit then moved to a smaller unit once I moved a bit out. Transfer the contract. Fine. Confirmation letter, done. No hassle. I’ve been using the unit for just over a year. Paid my bills on time, no problems. Also you can pay online through the link they give through your email. It helps if you don’t want to go down in person.
Shout out to Leda! You were fantastic! Did a great job helping me with all my questions and the whole process was what I had hoped for throughout the entire process which was a tremendous relief for me and the whole moving stuff. The freight elevator helps a lot if you want to move everything up in one go (better than the passenger elevator). Almost everyone else that works there have always been on the level and helpful.
And one more thing… so I’m closing out my account for the unit, as I finally cleared the rest of the stuff out. Leda goes to do the final check of the unit. While she’s away, Matthias lets me know to review the service of the facility and asks me to mention his name ONLY in the review to let the bosses know he’s doing a good job. And gave me his card. Well dude, I’ve mentioned you. To let everyone know, if you want to recognize someone’s slimy backhanded attempt to take credit for someone else’s hard work, you work with Matthias. If you want someone that does a real good job, talk to Leda. If she’s being straight with you, that’s great. It’s an honest answer. So shame on you, Matthias. I hope your bosses know now. Cheers.

This place is bootsy as fuck. The only good thing about it is that when the crackheads who live inside of it fight, it’s really entertaining to eavesdrop. During the year that I had storage there, my rates went up three times for no reason, and I eventually had to move my stuff out because I couldn’t afford to have this space anymore due to all the increases. When I was moving out, we got harrassed over and over by one of the workers, and he lied to us and said that there was no garbage can for us to throw anything out, and shortly thereafter, another worker came up to us and said, «Hey, you know we have a dumpster if you want to throw out anything.»
Please get a storage space here if you like dealing with basic ass bitches.
