Rip off… I was charged $ 9.75 for a regular pack of Marlboro lights. When I asked why the price was so much more then other places. The lady simply replies«This is downtown everything is expensive here». By the way I live in downtown too. Is it even legal to increase sales price like that?

This store thrives on gouging tourists. Watched him charge tourists $ 50 for a 12 pack of beer and $ 18 for a 6-pack. A complete fraud!

Being a long time San Franciscan I should have known better but I was tired and thirsty. I stopped in hiking up the hill as I needed a cool drink. I was charged $ 3.60 for a 1 ltr bottle of diet Pepsi which is about 4 times what it goes for, it should have been around $ 1 if at 7 Eleven or most places. Clearly this place is set up like so many others in the area to screw the tourists and any locals in a pinch. Never trust any place with no prices on items or on the counters I found with this place. You would be better off to go to a fast food place for a large soda than buying a soda here. Avoid the place…

All of the liquor stores within 4 blocks of Union Square are extremely expensive, and this is no exception. I paid $ 13 for 416 ounce cans of Becks. Normal price would be $ 8-$ 10. It gets much worse if you are buying hard liquor., Only buy here if you are desperate, which I was. They cater to people stuck in the hotels who are on foot, and for those people this is cheaper than room service or the bar. But it is not just this place, they are all like this near union square. For slightly better prices try the Bel Clift market on Geary and Taylor. For what it is worth, the beer was skunked. I’m not blaming Fred’s at this time, however I could imagine that at these prices beer could spend a long long time in those coolers.

I’m surprised that this place has fruits and some deli stuff. No lotto tickets but phone cards and snacks along with their liquor selection. Their selection of ice cream is awesome. Voss water and Asian ramen… Can’t beat that!

A handle of Captain Morgan which usually goes for $ 21 at Von’s was $ 69. We didn’t find Freds personal touch worth the up charge.

Gonna have to agree with a bevy of the other reviewers…$ 2 for a smallish soda is some big time robbery…

The woman in there is rude. DON’T GO! Nothing special. I guess they do have to deal with a lot of rude people as well but dont throw it back on me.

When the going gets rough, the rough gets worse here at Fred’s. Situated just a few blocks from the Powell Bart Station and a handful of spendy hotels, Fred’s does what most tourist traps do best — upsell and overcharge with a smile. I came here in a hurry after realizing I had nothing to contribute to a BYOB party that I was already late for. I had been here before to get a juice in the past, but I was here for something far less sobering than that. I needed a couple bottles of alcohol, for cheap. I clearly came to the wrong place. My cell phone was blowing up and I had little options before I needed to hail a cab. So I came in here knowing what I needed and then I saw the prices. A full bottle of Grey Goose at $ 55? Mini bottles for $ 10? Jose Cuervo was almost $ 60. How is this possible? I caved and bought a couple of mini bottles and a medium sized bottle of Grey Goose and still managed to come out $ 50 poorer. I made a comment about the prices and the guy behind the counter was bold enough to say, «We’re Fred’s, we have the good stuff. These prices are normal in SF.» I was biting my lip the whole time not realizing how dumb I felt, despite the line of people behind me. I eventually discovered Bev Mo!( ) and now I feel infinitely more dumb.

This place is really cute & clean & had good beats playing. The 2 guys at the front were funny & chill. I will say it was a touch pricey but hellooo this is the city. Ya’ll aren’t in Kansas anymore. But if prices are an issue there’s a ton of stores & things all around so this place isn’t the one & only.

If you’ve ever pulled a crisp $ 100 bill out of your wallet and then ripped it in half, then this is the place for you. If you like to spend a normal amount of money on beer and liquor, then do yourself a favor and stay the hell away from Fred’s and go to the liquor store a block further down O’Farrell, where the prices are fair. Way too expensive, Fred. If I ever go back there, I’m going to put a sticker on the front door that says«They Hate Us on Unilocal» to warn people to stay away from this dismal liquor dungeon.

I wish I could give Fred’s zero stars, because it deserves it. I walked out of Fred’s in an outrage because of the nonsense Fred was trying to pull. This place basically tries to screw anyone that walks in. Every 12 pack of beer was $ 14, it didn’t matter if it was Natural Light or Coors or anything, everything was $ 14. It really made me mad. DON’T GO! Down the street, on the same side of the Hilton is another liquor store with normal prices, plus the guy is very nice and friendly. Also, it wasn’t that clean. I don’t know where these other Unilocalers are getting that from. Big deal if its clean, the prices suck!

One star for being very clean. One star for having the«Venom» I was craving, while others in the area did not. However, the prices are the highest of «corner» stores in the area. I am on my way to Target to stock up on Venom at 60% of the cost.

The store has a large selections of liquor and a fair amount of snacks and food items, but everything is the store is twice as expensive as it should be. I understand there is a «city premium» but this is just price gouging.
