FTC Skate Boarding

I’ve been to skate shops all over the fucking world; my BF is a sponsored pro skater. FTC has got to be the worst. Jesus Christ. Not only of their douchey attitude, but they seemed like they just got out of bed! Humidity skate shop was high as fuck, but they still had wonderful and helpful customer service. I brought a deck in with 100+ stickers from skate shops in the United States. I let every skate shop choose their own placement on the deck. THIS MOTHERFUCKER PICKS A STICKER THAT IS LITERALLY HALF THE DECK SIZE AND COVERS UP PROBABLY 50 OF THE OTHER STICKERS.

This is the skate shop that calls itself «For The City» but who was for the no sit or lie ordinance (owner was interviewed on the news) and who sold a «Die Hippie Scum» T-​shirt. Should be ATC; Against The City…

Solid shop. Employees are both friendly and know what they are talking about (a rare quality). Only one drawback, which really isn’t there fault. It’s gotten pretty touristy in there so stuff goes quick.

I disagree with the comment about the staff being rude. The guys at the shop are more than accommodating when it comes to general questions and inquiries about their products whenever I have dropped in as long as you’re just as patient as you expect them to be. My guess is that people who called for big Nike SB releases that didn’t get a response that they wanted were more upset that they didn’t get their hands on a pair. Dudes at the shop allowed us to hang out inside a little during the heavy rain during a release in February. They told us hundreds of calls were coming in the day before this big release as well. Just a rule of thumb: don’t expect to get a highly detailed answer about a release if you’re calling right before it drops, knowing that thousands of others are interested in the same product.

Totally disagree on the whole douchey staff thing.
My room mate and I bought boards here today. We haven’t skated since we were tweens and had no clue what we were looking for. The dudes were nice and super helpful, helped us pick out what we needed and sent us on our way. Props for not treating us like assholes for not being skater kids.
Overall, great shop, friendly guys, awesome selection.

NiketownSF mentioned that some local skate shop will release a specific Nike shoes this coming Saturday.
Unfortunately. I happen to contact this skate shop to inquire about these shoes and was given a rude NO and hung up on me right after saying no.
This store must have gotten several inquiries about the shoes today that’s why they’re very frustrated about these callers.
They definitely need to buy some patience and a better customer service skills.
Whoever answered the phone should not be in this type of business because retail is about quality of product and excellent customer service

Rude bastards. Every time I attempt to enter the shop, I am reminded of the employee’s incredible smugness. The dudes behind the counter act as though you are wasting their time. Well, you know what jerks, your store is a sorry excuse for a business that will fail miserably within the next few months due to your incomprehensibly low level of customer service.

If your looking for a pretentious, pseudo-​intellectual as well as over-​priced shop, well this is your place.
I was looking for a particular deck for my brother for his birthday. I didn’t know the brand or when it came out but, I had a picture I gleamed off the internet. Plus, I’m not a skater, nor am I knowledgeable in the skating culture/​products so I was in need of serious help.
I walked in FTC around 4pm. It was barely crowded and the shop itself is small, about the size of a studio apartment. There were two guys working the glass cases. One was heavily involved in a four person sales transaction and the other was leaning on the counter, immersed in a conversation with his friend. I looked at the decks on the wall to discover the one I was searching for wasn’t there. So, I approached the guy speaking to his friend. I apologized for interrupting and asked if he was working (I work in retail and get annoyed as shit when people approach me when I’m on my break). He said no as he huffed and stared me down. He acted as if I was interrupting some philosophical moment he was having. I than awkwardly asked if he could help me find this particular deck, to which I showed him the picture. He slightly laughed (I’m assuming at my stupidity on when the deck was released) and abruptly told me «no we dont carry that anymore» and walked away to the other side of the store engaging in conversation with his co-​worker about food. No sorry, no information on the deck itself (like who it was by, when it came out etc), not even a bye, no nothing. DUDE… Really? How rude are you? You work in retail, your not God’s gift of knowledge. Sorry I didn’t know information about the deck. Rub one out, get off of your high horse and chill the fuck out.
His friend, who was NOT an employee, took pity on me and asked to see what I was looking for. After seeing the picture, he explained the deck had come out about a year prior and it was limited edition. He explained that sometimes the company does reproduce it during the holidays and I should check their website. He than told me the name of the company. Well, thanks random stranger.
Point is: They’re fucking rude. Go somewhere else.

Best skateboard shop in the world! Been going here since the early 90’s. they’ve always kept real and down to earth no matter how many big name skaters they sponsor.

Used to come here a few years back (2003) for SBs, one of the few stores that would hold a pair for me and that would have my size… They have nice graphic artwork as well… good to know they’ll still up and running. always visit this spot when im in town

When I think of skateboarding and San Francisco I think of FTC: For The City. If you want to know why, here’s a little history lesson. FTC was established in 1986 only selling a small collection of skate gear in the back of a ski and tennis shop. By 1994 they opened its own doors to a store on Haight-​Ashbury street in SF. They began to evolve and grow towards the city street skating scene, and help put legendary skate spots Embarcadero aka EMB and Hubba Hideout on the map. Today the FTC family continues to grow making quality clothing and skateboard products. Even ESPN Action Sports did a story about them and their family values.

Petit magasin très bien décoré. Les vendeurs sont accueillants et rapides. Beaucoup de choix de chaussures et de skates. Prix raisonnables. Magasin à voir si vous passez dans Haight Street.

FTC is one of the stores that pop up in your ear from time to time if you are a local SF native. I’ve been coming to FTC for years now and the service for me has been great. It’s a skate shop foremost and that is appreciated. I do come here to find new clothing and they have a decent size selection. Diamond Supply, DGK seem to be filling the racks more than anything which is okay. I come in looking for more SF products and it can be hit or miss with that. 5 stars for being an OG store on Haight and for the customer service. I’d give it a 5.5 if Unilocaled allowed it if they brought in more SF clothing.

preface: I am not a skater, young or cool, I just like graphic t-​shirts.
We were strolling down upper Haight for shits and giggles and stopped into FTC to scour the graphic t-​shirt selection. I found one I really liked and bought it. After the first wash, the ink came off and there were flakes everywhere. I am glad I turn all of my t-​shirts inside out prior to every wash (this helps to preserves the ink.)
A couple of months later, I decided to stop in again and tell them what had happened to the shirt (not looking for a free handout or replacement.) They gave me free shirt, no questions asked. I guess all of the shirts with that particular design had a printing/​ink flaw. The shirt that was given seems like a freebie, nevertheless, this is a testament to good service.

I come here alot, but this past saturday when i went changed it all. We walked in the store and the guy at the register with the beer gut seemed like he was in a bad mood. Asked him about some t-​shirts and he gave us an attitude. We brushed it off. Everybody has a bad day once in their life. When it was time to pay my cousin gave the guy $ 40.00 to pay for the shirt with the discount it came to about $ 18 so he asked for the change, but the guy with the beer gut tried to play it off and say that my cousin gave him $ 20 only. My cousin even placed the bills on the counter and counted it infront of him. He felt stupid when my cousin grabed the bills and pulled them apart. All the guy could say was «oh my bad.» Never coming back here again. Don’t like it when people try to get over on their customers.

Very friendly staff. They are always helpful and looking out for your best interest. Great customer service. FTC will always be my favorite local skate shop. Great selection of clothing, shoes, and decks, Definitely one of the first places I go when I’m trying to get new Nike Sbs.

Just an update, that i have had mostly good experiences here. I’ve kept on coming here, and their have a great selection of skate videos.
special interest message For those who menustrate: I have not been attacked by out of control women here, and there is no longer a creepy «women’s skate fashion» section of clothes that no human being can skate in. That’s pretty cool, those are probably weird pet projects of skater girlfreinds, and it’s good to see those gone. You could spend your hard earned cash instead on the skateboarding sneakers!
I am old and wrinkled and not intimidated by all-​male preserves, but I can see how some girl who is a little intimidated by a bunch of men.
Only justin bieber has the magic that can make women totally comfortable and write his name on their tummies in glitter.
the rest of the men have to be in total fear of freaking women out, especially skateboarders, who have been wondering since the beginning of time how they can get women into their sport. it’s the last holy grail! since teaching their girlfriends has a 99.9999% failure rate,
the only real solution is to get random women away from the brazilian bikini wax salon to wander into FTC and buy a skateboard and then commit. it’s also crucial that these random women not be currently dating a skater when they do the first skateboard purchase. i don’t know why that is but that’s how it is.
for girls, I would either say toughen up and travel the world or just keep in mind that you are genetically advantaged in skateboarding. men are more or less like you and me, it’s just that their thoughts are more pure, so please do not make any off-​color jokes or use bad language or it will
For some reason the best skateboarding advice seems to come from the little kids that are here, so they’re like this extra feature of the shop that is not advertised. talk tot he little kids, they will rule the world!

Always have to make a stop here when we are in the city and my bf breaks shit. They have a good selection on boards, shoes and men’s clothes… not so much on women’s but that’s a given. It’s a skate shop. The staff is cool. I don’t know what some are saying on here about douchebags and how this place is only for fashion. This is a real skate shop… They carry real shit here. Go take your fake skater boy image and go to the mall if you want some Element crap.

When I think of original city brands from SF only two come to mind… Levi’s and FTC!
If you are looking for the latest urban apparel, sneakers, skate gear and videos you need to swing through FTC on Haight St. FTC is a grass roots pioneer is the world of urban skateboarding. Over the past 25 years FTC has sponsored and promoted the biggest names in skating and have grown their brand into an international skate icon from Japan to Europe to South America.
And if you happen to be hanging out in the store you just might get lucky and catch a celebrity rolling through. On several occasions I’ve bumped into Mos Def, Robin Williams and Baron Davis.

Considering the Beatle-​mania-​esque attention this store receives from hordes of über-​hip teens spending their parent’s disposable funds on Nike SB’s, DC and Ipath shoes, I’ve never once gotten attitude from this spot. Never. And that is enough for me to keep coming back.
The amount of decks on the wall is dizzying.
Now, given… I’ve dropped the shoe thing a long time ago. But, it’s unfortunate that it’s like crack to me and I can’t help but check out what’s new every so often. One time on a whim, I picked up the new Juxtapoz and in it were the P. Rod Zoom Air Elite Serape Blanket Nike SBs, oh how I drooled. Next thing you know I’m dropping $ 215 at FTC on these damn shoes!
Whether or not I’m buying shoes is unimportant to the cats that work here, they’re always super helpful, laid back and funny. Even the FTC in Sacramento is the shit. Although I do like the two story/​loft like layout of the one in SF. My art studio rests on top of the Sacramento FTC where the employees/​owners are always skating in the front, something I never see them do at their SF location. They’re much more personable, like to cuss a lot and alternate between FTC and the new Upper Playground in Sacra. Fucking recipe for success.
