Soooo good! The sukiyaki is the best item on the menu. Especially if you order the combo with the sashimi. $ 12. Bam! The sukiyaki has a lot of flavor. Almost as good as the recently closed Hisago. You will have to wait a bit for your food because there is a small staff but it is totally worth the wait.

If I could give them zero stars I would. This place surely has affordable sushi prices but that comes at the price of being understaffed. Being understaffed has taken the voice away from their waiters. After waiting 1 hour and 20 minutes, we are finally next in line with an open table awaiting us. A lady comes in and has a seat at that open table. Her name is no where to be found on the wait list and she does not say a word to anyone. When us waiting customers bring this to the waitresses’ attention, being so busy, she does not say a word. She simple allows them to sit and begins to serve them. Very disappointed in the morals of the staff. Although it is easier to avoid the situation that to do what’s right, you would think this restaurant would try their best to be fair. Don’t come here unless you have reservations in advance or the wait could potentially be 1+ hours during dinner time.

It’s a small-ish restaurant with great sushi and sashimi. The service is efficient yet courteous. We’ll come back again if we’re in the Sunset area! We started with agedashi Tofu which was delicious and served very hot with the sweet dashi/soy/mirin sauce. We shared 2 orders which was perfect for our group. We also had chicken karaage which was good but not great. I’m still on the hunt for elusive great chicken karaage! We had 3 orders of sashimi, chirashi(sashimi over rice in a bowl) and many different rolls. Good value here for fresh sushi. Will be back!

If you sit-in, the experience is more like 3 stars(the restaurant is severely understaffed) but with takeout, you don’t need to worry about all of that. Now that Yum Yum Fish on Irving is gone, Fujiyama-Ya has been my go-to for affordable Japanese food and we routinely get takeout from here. Since I come here so often, 4 stars feels about right(and I’m giving this rating without even having tried their signature beef amiyaki yet!) The salmon(what the owners call«sha-ke») and escolar are usually good sashimi/chirashi options. The soft shell crab appetizer is a MUST order and has been consistently excellent – flavorful, juicy, and perfectly crunchy(then again it is crab season as I write this). The tuna poke isn’t bad and I’ll usually order this. As for rolls, I like the Rock ‘n Roll and Pink Salmon Roll. For an extra $ 1 you can upgrade from artificial crab to real crab. Do it. There aren’t a lot of no frills, reasonably priced sushi options in SF. This is a neighborhood treat, but expect your takeout order to take 45 min to 1 hour. I honestly wouldn’t bother dining in unless you’re coming during off-peak hours.

My absolute favorite mom and pop shop for Japanese food! Cheap and tasty food accompanied by quality service. Below reviews can attest to how sweet Ester really is :) Upon arriving, I usually call in ahead to make a reservation since parties are seated based on the time they arrive. Party size is usually irrelevant so even if a table for six becomes available, they will sit a party of two. Expect to wait anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour, so get there early! There’s a bar next door so I usually will sip on a few drinks while I wait for my table to open. For appetizers, I usually stick with getting a few orders of the spicy scallop roll and California roll. Spicy scallop is a pretty basic roll with raw scallops topped with a spicy sauce. Simple but still very good. I highly recommend it! Even my friend who doesn’t like raw seafood loved it. Beware though, the sauce can be kinda spicy after you’ve consumed a couple pieces. I usually just power through though cause it’s sooooo good! For my entrée, Combo K($ 12.95) is a no brainer. It comes with a huge serving of unagi(served on a sizzling plate) and sashimi. You can choose between salmon, tuna and hamachi. Can’t go wrong with the salmon or hamachi. Granted it’s not the best quality, it’s still tasty and gets the job done. All combos also come with free miso soup, rice and salad. I absolutely love the salad — I mean, I know it’s a very basic American salad but the dressing is super creamy. Yum! Only downside is that service can be a little slow, but only because the restaurant is always packed. You can tell that the staff tries their best to attend to every table and I appreciate the effort. So for anyone looking for cheap and tasty Japanese food, definitely give this place a try. You won’t regret it!

This place has a solid menu with excellent prices. Japanese food shouldn’t cost more than what this place offers. I got the dinner bento box for $ 15. It has raw tuna, gyoza, tempura, and chicken teriyaki. Dinner came with miso, salad, and rice. I had a nice time eating here with my neighbors. They got the sukiyaki on a rainy SF day.

Had reservations for 9:30 pm on a Saturday night, running late so we moved it to 9:40 drove all the way from Daly City just to say that they were closed when it was 9:40& all the servers were just eating dinner together at a table. Might have been good, business is business.

My colleague suggested this place, and boy was it a good choice after a long day at work! My colleague had made a reservation, and good thing she did since the place was packed around 7pm on a Wednesday! Out of all that we ordered, I recommend ordering the poki, dynamite roll, and the chicken kara-age. I would order their ribeye next time as many tables had ordered that and it smelled so good! Service is a bit slow. They forgot our poki and hot sakes. Hopefully, this was a one-time mistake. Parking on Noriega may be difficult during peak dining hours. I can’t wait to take my parents here! Delicious food at affordable prices!

Great sushi today. The fish was super fresh. Last time I came here, it wasn’t as great but it definitely has improved. This place operates by 2 waitresses and I can say they are pretty good. The place was packed and we had a great satisfying dinner. I order the Charshi Combo/16 pieces only 13.95, salmon lover roll and seaweed salad, and My bf had the Combo F –TIP: just ask for salmon sashmi or they would give you the tuna sashmi. Bill came to be around $ 40.00, great deal!

I ordered the chirashi bowl, which was absolutely delicious in my opinion. While the slices of fish were not very large, the portioning was actually good enough to have a little bit of rice and steamed egg with every bite. The rice was seasoned well and very fluffy — as Japanese rice should be. Adding the bits of tamago and nori was an appreciated touch. Dad ordered the Beef Amiyaki which was to die for tender! A definite order for steak lovers. Mom had the bento combo. It was fairly standard. The beef teriyaki was way overdone and very dry but luckily, the goyza and tempura vegetables were done nicely. A few slices of red tuna sashimi were also a nice touch. Service was a bit slow on a Monday night. But other than that, it was still an enjoyable meal. Only Visa and Mastercard for credit cards. :)

Went there with a friend on a Sunday evening at around 7 – 7.30pm, it was a short wait that evening. Was seated in about 20 minutes or so. Had the combo special and it was very worth the $$. I got the beef sukiyaki and sashimi set(7 pieces, choice of tuna or salmon, cannot mix) and it only came up to about $ 15. The beef sukiyaki was a large portion itself and came with a generous serving of beef together with other stuff like vegetables. The salmon sashimi was fresh. I mean, a usual serving of sashimi would set you back $ 9 in the city so do the math and realize that this is an amazing deal. Service was pretty ok, it’s a busy place so there is a small wait when I requested for a saucer for soy sauce but the wait was definitely not excruciatingly bad. I’m giving it 5 stars because of value and quality of food and the fact that service was still present in this place albeit slightly slow. This shall be my go-to place for japanese food around the sunset area.

Fujiyama is a popular Japanese restaurant in the area, so it always has a long line. The interior is on the small side, about 10 tables, thus I sometimes get to-go instead. However, I found that their time for pick-up is usually longer than they tell you over the phone, so add another 10 minutes to the wait time they tell you. Price is really affordable for sushi around this area, and the variety is ok. My favorite from this restaurant is the spicy tuna roll, which is quite spicy. Other than spicy tuna, I always get the California roll and rock’n’ roll. There is an option to replace artificial crab with real crab in the California roll, but I could not really tell the difference, so I would not pay extra to get the replacement again. I have also tried the seafood udon here, the amount of seafood is standard, with shrimp, mussel, some fish cake, etc. however, the soup base is blend and just not enough flavor. I would say it is an average udon. One time we came as a big party of around 10 people, with reservations made ahead, they were able to accommodate us at dinner time. They also give us complimentary miso soup too! Before this, they have always been rushed and now I appreciate their service. Given the price, I would come back again if I am craving Japanese food, or simply call in ahead of time to get to-go.

Comfort Japanese food but I’m DISAPPOINTED by the quality. FOOD: My friend and I shared 1) Fujiyama roll($ 10 — 8 pieces) and 2) combo w/beef amiyaki + chicken kaarage($ 16.95). The Fugiyama roll was PRETTYSALTY and I was not too impressed. Not sure what type of fish was inside but it was fried, and the sushi was topped with caviar. The beef amiyaki was pretty disappointing, since it had a really flour-y texture, despite it looking really impressive on a stone top. The chicken kaarage also tasted really greesy and very floury. The best part was probably the salad dressing… PRICE: With tips/tax we paid $ 33 total($ 16.50/person), which is reasonable for Japanese restaurant but I was disappointed with the quality of the food — that it was too salty and the meat tasted really cheap. SERVICE: We came in a big party(10 people) and our food came by within 10 – 15 minutes of our ordering, which is impressive. Gotta give them credit for that. SETTING: The restaurant is located in the outer sunset neighborhood, so street parking is definitely do-able. The shop is pretty small though — 7 – 8 tables and can seat 25 people max. OVERALLIMPRESSION: Not too impressed by the quality of the food. Maybe I am not a big fan of Japanese food to start with…

Before you start reading this review, I want to mention that this place would definitely not be a destination restaurant in my opinion(meaning I wouldn’t go here if I didn’t live close by). I’ve come here quite a few times and this is definitely not the place to come if you just want sushi, even though the option to be able to order sushi is nice. The sukiyaki seems like the thing to get here, the udon soups are not bad, and the sushi is ok. I feel that I have a hate love relationship with this place, just like 90% of the places that are close to me. Of course I will be coming back at some point in the near future due to the fact that it’s so close. Pros Free miso Fairly good food Cons There is usually a wait Service is so so Sushi is mediocre even though the fish seems fresh Overall this place barely meets the good standards In my opinion but a good place to have close by.

3 stars for my first experience here. There was a bit of a wait but luckily me and my friend got seated right away since it was just us 2. The waitresses were really attentive which was nice because it was kind of busy at the time. My friend ordered some chirashi and the fish didn’t look too fresh O__o. It looked stiff and rubbery at the same time. I ordered the crunchy roll(shrimp tempura) and the dynamite roll(tuna with spicy mayo) and surprisingly they were not bad at all. They tasted really decent. I almost finished both of the rolls because I was really hungry. So I was satisfied with my order.

Stumbled upon this budget friendly gem because my friends were craving sushi and saw this spot on Unilocal with a relatively high rating. We came in with a party of five on a Saturday night and surprisingly got sat right away! The restaurant itself had a nice traditional feel to it and our orders were taken pretty promptly. I decided to order the Chirashi dinner which was $ 12 and came with 12 pieces of fish on a bed of rice as well as soup and salad. My friends ordered some nigiri sushi which were charged per piece with the high end being $ 2.40 for Uni which was a pretty damn good deal! So overall impression, if you’re looking for top quality product, then this is probably not the place for you. But if you’re a more budget conscience eater, than I would highly recommend this spot!

Amiyaki! I never care to look at their menu ever since i tried their Amiyaki maybe 6 or 7 years ago. Ever since, I had only ordered this item. Perhaps the most delicious ribeye for its price. Juicy and tender, yum! Oh, their salad, included with the entrée, is also delicious. Mainly because of the dressing. I asked if they sell them in a bottle, but they don’t :( They can be slow some time. Glad to see some additional young staff recently, much faster service compare to before.

If you’re looking for good and cheap Japanese food, Fujiyama-ya is the spot to go to. They have the usual rolls and several bento box options. I recommend getting the rib eye; tender, juicy and tasty. The grilled squid is great as well. I usually like sushi rolls, yet this place was not as good. They cut their sashimi thinner than your usual Japanese restaurant. Service is aways on point and food is excellent.
