Gwens Waxing

I came here because I read some of the reviews beforehand and determined it was a good place to go. First off, the place is still under «Tina’s Salon,» so keep that in mind.
Anyway, I decided I wanted to be adventurous and try a Brazilian wax. My prior knowledge was it takes off more than a bikini wax … so go hard or go home, right? First waxing experience should obviously be a Brazilian, haha. Did you know a Brazilian wax goes in between the cheeks, too? I definitely didn’t. That was fun.
I asked for Gwen, and so she took care of me. She was friendly and kept talking to me throughout the whole process, which made me feel more at ease. Because it was also my first time, I appreciated her asking, «ready?» during certain areas, which signaled to me that this spot is definitely going to be more painful in comparison to other areas. She’s also super speedy and thorough.
So you’re probably wondering why I’m giving less than 5 stars. Well, I came back a few more times and brought my friends so they could try it out. When I went back for myself, I wasn’t able to see Gwen, but one of the other workers.
When the other worker (Person B) was waxing me, the phone rang, and another worker (Person C), just opened the door and handed the phone over. I didn’t appreciate the fact that Person C didn’t knock on the door… it’s unprofessional and not courteous, you know?
Then Person B didn’t even bother closing the door. I don’t care if the business was not that busy, respect my privacy because not everyone is comfortable having an open door while someone is waxing your hoo-​hah, okay? So I told Person B to close the door before continuing. That’s also not very professional or courteous.
Person B didn’t even do a thorough job. Gwen has this policy where if you come back once a month, you can pay $ 30 instead of $ 35. I guess that only applies to Gwen because the other worker still charged me full price, despite being a familiar face. I mean I shouldn’t trip over $ 5: I still tipped them just like how I tipped Gwen previously. Also, $ 35 for a Brazilian is a lot cheaper compared to other places.
My point being is if you’re going to get a Brazilian or bikini wax, please ask for Gwen. I wouldn’t bother going for anyone else if Gwen isn’t there.

When you’re on a college student budget and don’t have enough to shell out $ 60 on a wax, you’d want to find an affordable esthetician who is experienced enough measure up to the professionals you might prefer to go to (even though a fancy salon with higher prices don’t always necessarily correspond with better skills /​service). Gwen does one of the best wax jobs that I’ve ever received at the lowest price — $ 25 on Wednesdays and $ 30 on all other days! She offers both soft and hard wax but either way her skills ensure that the job is done quickly and in the least painful way. She is also sweet and friendly with a professional demeanor. Her salon offers deals on mani pedis too! Just get all your lady maintenance needs met here.

Gwen is super friendly. I got the Brazilian/​Mani/​Pedi combo special at $ 55 — that’s value for money. Before picking Gwen’s I was looking for a place to do a Brazilian and everywhere around Union Square was roughly $ 75! Gwen is experienced, gentle and quick. Thanks for the great service. Oh and I love the mani/​pedi here, they’re so quick and professional!

Gwen is a really skilled waxer. I come to her for all my waxing but definitely for Brazilian. She is very thorough and it doesn’t hurt as bad with her. She’s also pretty quick which is great. The place is a hole in the wall but it’s clean and Gwen is super sweet :) highly recommend her for waxing.

Had a great experience at Gwen’s today. I was at first surprised when she quoted 30 mins for a full leg + bikini (in my previous experience, fast waxes made for sloppy jobs). I gave her a shot anyway and I’m so happy I did. Gwen was professional and sweet, and the result was baby-​smooth skin with minimal irritation. Great job, will be back again.

I’ve been seeing Gwen for maybe 8 years now for all waxing and threading needs. She is a pro. She is fast and thorough. She is super friendly and has a great attitude. It’s a pleasure going to see her.

Gwen is very quick and super clean at Brazilian waxing. She uses rose wax and removes any ingrowns if needed. The experience is less painful and pleasant compared to any other Brazilian places I have been to! Her price of $ 35 is quite reasonable and if you go to her every 4 weeks, it’s only $ 30!

My search for a great wax and nail spot is finally over! Gwen is an expert when it comes to waxing – she pays particular attention to keeping everything extra sanitary (she never double dips in the wax!) and as painless as possible. She has decades of experience and is very friendly and professional. Prices are very reasonable for the city. I will be a regular!

Gwen is amazing. I’ve been seeing her for my bikini /​brazillian waxes for the last 5 years. She is friendly, does a great job, and is super speedy. She makes a bikini wax about as fun as it can be.

Gwen took over Tina’s Nails on Bush St and does a great job waxing. A Brazillian is $ 35 and is as quick and painless as one can be… Gwen knows what she is doing! She uses a rose wax which I’ve never seen before, but seems less sticky and more efficient.

She is a waxer at Zaza and she doesn’t come in on Mondays (sometimes Sundays but rarely). Call ahead to be sure, or you can book online through the Zaza website. $ 55 ($ 5.5 deposit when you book online, which goes towards your total bill). She is the best!

I have one word for Gwen, AMAZING! I am new in the city and when I was referred to her from a friend I didn’t think I would instantly fall in LOVE with her. She is amazing at her job, I like to call her the waxing guru. It is really tough to find people like Gwen and I will follow her where ever she goes. I just hope she never leaves.

For the last nine years I have only had Brazilian wax jobs. I have tried many different places some great and some terrible, but Gwen is like no one I have ever experienced. I have been getting waxed by Gwen for almost two years now and she is quick and gentle. She is very sanitary and the spa is really clean. I always leave Gwen feeling fresh and beautiful. SHE ROCKS!

I had been looking for a regular place to go to get waxed. I had been to places that were cheaper and I got what I paid for.
Gwen, on the other hand, is reasonably priced (I do get what I pay for — and then some in my mind) and does an incredible job.
She is quick, thorough and painless. I’m not sure what more I could ask for! She knows what she’s doing and she does it well. I am delighted to finally have someone to go to regularly and I now refer anyone and everyone to Gwen. I have no intention of looking elsewhere ever again.
