I brought in a Globd table stand mixer for repair and they did a quick, thorough repair job with
a fast turnaround. Very reasonable repair price. Very personable staff.

I took several of my knives in for sharpening after seeing they offer the service cheaply here on Unilocal,and that nothing bad had been said about it. Big mistake. At only $ 2 a knife, it seems like a steal; that would be because it is! My knives were quite throughly destroyed by K. Doving; covered in scuffs and scratches, even far up the blade nowhere near an edge needing sharpening, one even had one face of the top edge sharpened! Can you not even tell which side of the knife is sharp?! Besides that they also cracked one of my handles, in two places at that… Finally, after being so disgusted with the damage to the knives I decide to try them out with their new edges… They are dull beyond belief! I find no trace of an edge on them whatsoever, and they are literally unable to slice an onion!!! The blades stick, jerk and veer off course in such a simple task as this due to their extreme dullness. I literally take out one of my roommates’ 5 year old $ 1 knives that has never been sharpened for comparison; it cuts better… I’ll not that these knives were all high quality knives, professional grade and some carbon steel, and were significantly sharper when I brought them IN! I will never let these people near my knives again and now need to spend considerably more to have my knives repaired by a competent service… AVOID AT ALL COSTS FOR SHARPENING!

I bought the most AWESOME knife at this shop! It is a serrated spreader that does just about everything! It was only $ 15.00! The staff is very nice, they know their products, and they were extremely helpful. I never really thought an average person like me was allowed to shop in a restaurant supply store. I now know I am always more than welcomed in this place!

I’ve been to a few restaurant supply shops before, mostly out of fascination with industrial-​grade kitchen toys, and in those places I wandered in awe the aisles of ice cream scoops or giddily admired the various colanders and strainers that I might one day call my very own. As it turns out, K. Doving bears little resemblance to the perfect restaurant supply shop in my head, and had I known that I might not have gone for my shopping in the first place. It’s a stocked shop, to be sure, but the browse-​ability is nil, my friends. You must walk in knowing what you’re after, and ask one of the cashiers (who, as best I can tell, are also the proprietors) to show you the selection. Deny me my browsing?! I would buy more from you if you’d let me drool on it a bit first! I mean, I feel confident that whoever buys the drool-​soaked items will wash and sanitize prior to first use!
Second, the shop’s larger equipment (large & industrial-​strength slicers, stand mixers, etc.) all adorn the small sales floor space there is, and the organization of these items is not immediately clear to me. I dunno, maybe I walked in with too high of expectations? And when all was said and done, I was only pleased enough to buy about half of the items I was shown. I did say the shop was stocked, and that’s true, but it wasn’t stocked with what I’d suspected and what I’ve seen at other restaurant suppliers’ — their quality of product just struck me as the next grade down… not what I’m looking for in kitchen toys I hope will last a long time and be pleasant, even inspiring, to use.

As the proud owner of a new-​used meat slicer, I was looking to get it all cleaned up and sparkling for some serious meat cutting. I thought for sure it was gonna cost me to get it in tip-​top shape. I was expecting to be required to buy some ‘special’ lubrication for the slicer, since it was gonna be around food. Jim at Doving, put all my fears to rest. All I needed was mineral oil, some soap and water to clean off all the gunk, and some elbow grease. He offered up the friendly advice without any hesitation or charge.
His shop, while almost looking like a little antique store, is full of new/​used restaurant and butcher equipment that would look really cool in your kitchen… as long as you had space. Cutlery adorns his back walls, as they sell all types for butchers and the home chef. They also do knife sharpening. Would’ve liked to rummage through some of their stuff, but I had to go. They’ve been around since 1955, and are able to service all sorts of restaurant appliances, as well as sell new equipment and parts. Don’t look to Economy Restaurant Fixtures to provide restaurant appliance servicing in SF… they’ll just refer you to Doving.
