I’ve now been to Long Bar four or five times and it just seems to be getting better. The first couple of visits, the place could’ve been confused for a library. A closed library. Nowadays it’s hoppin! The big windows up front are great for people watching; the dark corners in the back are great for smooching; and the sweet potato tater tots are a great way to convince you you’re still sticking to your South Beach diet even when you know better. Service isn’t my favorite thing, though the bussers and food runners have always been great, but the vibe is a good one, and the selection of snacks and drinks make it work.

I have never eaten the food here but the place is great to grab a few drinks. The bar tenders are nice, the wine is tasty, the ambiance is chill and comfortable. Come early as the place has a high«douche-bag» potential… trust me I live right nearby and my this hood is very douchey. I have heard from several friends that the food is good, but all I can comment on is the bar… it is a good bar.

My valentine surprised me with dinner at Long Bar and never having been there, I didn’t know what to expect. But straight out of the gates, it was a wonderful experience. We were seated quickly in a big booth that allowed us to cuddle up between courses. Our server was cute and sweet and brought our drinks promptly. We started with the Warm Brussel Sprouts salad which was divine with it’s crispy bacon pieces, shredded brussels and a poached egg on top which when punctured, oozed down over the salad as a perfect complement to the bacon vinaigrette. Next up were the Mediterranean Minis, two beef/lamb sliders topped with feta and Israeli salad(chopped red onion, cucumber and tomato). We slathered them in the yogurt dipping sauce that accompanied the minis which only added to the richness of the delicious little burgers. I was ready to call it quits after sharing these two appetizers but my date insisted on ordering more and I’m glad he did — the mussels and clams were cooked to perfection and we were kindly given extra grilled bread(in addition to the two slabs that accompanied the dish) to sop up the delicious broth that remained once the shells were gone. Finally we had a pasta dish, topped with seared trout and covered in a killer meyer lemon beurre blanc. I was simply bursting at the seams when we finished the main meal and tapped out but the Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies with Vanilla Milk Shots looked so very tempting(baked fresh to order). I will certainly return and save room for them next time.

Came here for dinner through Tasting Table’s recommendation. I thought it was more of a bar/hangout spot, but the food here is actually quite decent! I ordered their risotto which was SUPERDELICIOUS, I highly recommend it! My friend got a fish which was also very soft and good, but I definitely liked the risotto more. And then finally, the reason why we came here… was for the DESSERT: the San Francisco semifreddo, which was HEAVENLY! TastingTable’s description of it? «The dessert begins with a block of vibrant mint chip ice cream… then coated with Hopfinger’s genius approximation of Magic Shell, a thick, crackly chocolate veneer. A deeply fudgy brownie anchors the ice cream base while whipped cream and shards of candy cane and After Eight mints adorn the top. The brilliant final fillip: a beige pool of Fernet-Branca crème anglaise.» The environment is also nice and elegant, although it may be on the noisy side cuz of the crowd at the bar. But I’d definitely come back for the semifreddo if not the risotto!

I came here to watch a Monday Night Football game and was surprised to see how dead it was during happy hour. The long bar was quite short of people. My guess of the reasons why this place is not as big of a hit versus Harry’s: 1. They only got one freaking TV. Increase the capital expenditure! 2. Their HH offering is piss poor. 3. Ironic, but the fine red oak walls and big windows makes this place too fine of a venue for yuppies. 4. Culture — feels more like a sip-on-Bordeaux place than rage-before-HH-ends-at-7 5. Food selection is too basic and unappetizing(eg. usual and ordinary burgers, french fries) This place is more of a quiet and serene bar so don’t expect an amped up atmosphere.

I have not tried the food here yet, just the bar. But the menu looks intriguing. As for the drinks, they have an extensive selection, the wine is delicious and they have ginger beer which is essential for making dark and stormies. It’s too bad that I only ever go here when I see a movie at the Clay… which isn’t very often.

Been wanting to try this place ever since hearing Erik Hopfinger(formerly at Circa & «Top Chef») was the new chef. We went in for apps & drinks on a Saturday night and it was quiet and pretty empty around 5pm but had a decent crowd by 7pm. I liked that they had different seating options – long bar(obviously), high top tables and tables in the back. We really liked all the dishes we ordered! *Tuna Tartare-super fresh chunks of ahi, spicy(sriracha) + sweet(mango), beautifully presented with crispy wonton chips *Mussels & Clams with Chorizo – big bowl of mussels & clams in a tomato broth bursting with flavor that is perfect for dipping the grilled bread(or eating by the spoonful!)…just wish it was served with more than 2 pieces of bread. We actually asked for more! *Grilled Asparagus – simple side dish, yummy *French Fries – crispy, hot and perfectly seasoned Full bar that made us strong martinis. Would have been nice to have a cocktail menu with some specialty drinks listed but apparently they only have a wine list(which was decent & moderately priced). Our server was nice but seemed a little slow. He checked on us a few times but felt like we had to flag him down as they got busier. We had to ask for bread after seeing the table next to us get a big plate(even though we had already finished our food). The rolls look like little popovers & is served with an oil for dipping – yummy! I will definitely be back and I like that it is more upscale than Harry’s but not pretentious at all!

I had been there in the past and wasn’t impressed. BUTWOW what a difference this time around! I came to find out the place has a new owner«Reza» who said he is there regularly himself and a new chef who came from the tv show«Top Chef»… all in all it seems to have made a vast change. We got there on a relatively busy Thursday night and were greeted at the door by who we later found out was that new owner, who then sat us and sent over a server. Though they didn’t have a cocktail menu per-say, my girlfriend gave a decription of the style of drinks she likes to reza and out came a stellar drink with garnish fanfare. i had a beer. We shared a rock solid Salad, then two appetizers(buffalo wing meatballs & tuna tartar) which again surprized us and split what turned out to be probably the best burger we have had in the city which came with onion rings and fries! All in all, though a little overly drunk by the end, we left there knowing we’ll be back with friends in tow to try this place! What a difference the ownership has made… will update again when we go back!

There is indeed a long bar in here. As well as a long dining room, attentive waitstaff, and big windows. From our warm perches inside the bar the big windows gave us great views of the oncoming storm and the people walking by. First a gale made the trees dance, and then as the dark clouds drove in from the Pacific, we watched the frequency of umbrellas rise from an occasional to the majority. A glass of pinot gris and a huge plate of french fries for My Lady, a glass of chardonnay and an order of sliders(one beef, one lamb, with a slice of cheese and a heap of salsa on each), for $ 34 + tip, gave us strength and cheer on this chilly afternoon. Two waitresses made sure that we were not forgotten, while we forgot the cares of the week in this lofty retreat. After we were satisfied we dashed through the raindrops to a nearby covered bus stop to catch a safe ride home again. Thunder and lightning greeted us along the way.

REVIEWONLYFORHAPPYHOUR/DRINKS DURING A GAME: Ended up here when Harry’s was WAY too full for the Giants game — there was standing room for a few of us, woohooo! We were able to comfortably stand and watch the game. * The waiter came by within minutes and took our drink order.(2 stars). * Good location on fillmore and a ton of bus lines running up and down the street(1.5 stars). * There are a few flat screen tv’s to watch a sports game and some finger food options(1 star) * The buffalo wing meatballs w/blue cheese was not my cuppa tea although some of the other girls liked it. EEKS(–0.5 stars) Would come back for a beer if I were in the area again. Nice backup option.

I only went here once while visiting San Francisco, but wow! We were waiting and waiting to be called for the Peruvian place down the street but after an hour of waiting for their call and still nothing, we decided that our hunger could no longer hold out for Peruvian. Long Bar was our fallback choice. What drew us in was the short rib on the menu, as we figured it would be hard for anyone to screw up braised short ribs. Unfortunately after we sat down, we were informed that they were out of the short ribs. Disappointed, I halfheartedly agreed to the halibut that was recommended by the server. Boy, am I glad that they were out of shortribs! The halibut was so freaking good. There were several meaty chunks of grilled halibut on top of greens with pieces of prosciutto and a corn salsa with cherry tomatoes. It all sounds very strange, but it was the best dish of our trip. My SO had such food envy when he tried my dish and continues to rave about it. He had a the fish and chips and those were really good too. The fish was nice thick cuts of cod with a crisp salty batter served with nicely cooked fries. Being from Hawaii, he is pretty picky about fish dishes, but both the cod and halibut were spot on. We would have never expected to have such a great meal at a bar but the stars seemed to have aligned that night and we had an unforgettable dinner. Seriously one of the highlights of our trip.

So the pot pie isn’t all that exciting and it seems like all the good stuff is off the menu for now. Still a nice looking place, good for a drink esp. when Harry’s is too crowded or you want a quieter place to hang out.

After this place was featured on public radio’s Dinner Party Download, I had to visit. It took the man in charge, Reza, a minute to realize I was trying to order the drink from the show and he sadly didn’t have the tools :(google«Blue Blazer» if you’re curious. it includes fire. The drinks he served us instead were good too. In fact, our only complaint is that they came too alcoholic – because Reza insisted on not flooding the cocktails with sugar, our fragile palettes were a bit overwhelmed. Yet he was really friendly and knowledgeable so I could see myself definitely returning. We had a nice peach cobbler(again, no added sugar) and the food on the other patrons’ dishes looked pretty good. They were pretty cool, too!

Do you LOVE a place to grab a drink while you’re waiting for a table down the street? Do you love a bar that is slightly on the pretentious side, and usually not-so-crowded? If so, this is the place for you. I live down the street, yet I’ve only been in here twice. Each experience has been FINE. Nothing to rave about, nothing to dis. I’ve only had drinks here, but I am curious about the food(per usual). Perhaps I shall be back…

Things are looking up for this place, they recently hired a new manager who actually knows what he’s doing and based on the food it shows. We had the calamari $ 11 and Tuna Tartare $ 15 good portions and nicely seasoned, both were fantastic! Finally a great late night eats in the neighborhood(kitchen closes at 11). I ordered a Hoegarten $ 5 which paired perfectly with my food. Once they do a little bit of remodeling, hopefully paint the walls a lighter color, this place will be a great asset to the neighborhood.

They have some decent happy hour snacks for not too much money. And OK drink specials during happy hour. The bartenders are friendly. Really, the only drawback is that this place has the appearance(and maybe that’s the clientelle) of being TOOSWANKY. Oh, and the prices are a bit high too. It’s one of the few bars in the area, and is a decent place to get a drink before dinner or such, but not a destination in and of itself, for sure.

Me: Ugh, this martini is awful Her: I said I wanted it dirty, not shitty. Me: You want to go somewhere else, maybe someplace that makes drinks that *aren’t* shitty? Her: At least we’ve got seats; I don’t think we’re going to do any better this late on a Saturday night. Rachael J. and I were out on Saturday, still recovering from the after effects of a wedding ceremony and reception with no booze, and after a bottle of wine down the street at The Wine Jar, we were ready for the hard stuff, so up, up, UP Fillmore we went! Rachael J. knew Harry’s, but the place was jampacked with college footbal freaks – I still had my suit on from the wedding, Rachael J. was wearing her dress and pumps… we weren’t feeling the fitted cap crowd. Wearily, we trekked further up Fillmore and finally, blissfully sank down at a cocktail table in the front of the place. It’s a good looking joint, dark wood, red and ambers from the lighting, spiffily attired servers, and a pretty good looking bar with back mirror. Big, big place. We had a nice server who was pleasant with us and we shared some witty banter about weddings without alcohol(when *will* I get over the dry wedding, you might ask? well, I don’t know, exactly, but my therapist says I should take all the time I need, so fuck you), and then to the drinks. Martinis we had. Dirty vodka martinis. The first ones were okay – a little heavy on the vermouth, or maybe their well vodka is exceptionally shitty, it was hard to tell(after all, our palates were covered with red wine from our previous stop). The second round of dirty martinis is where things started to get strange. Round two and we know it’s not our palates that are fucked up – it’s the martinis. This time, they came out extra salty, i.e., dirty to the point of being shitty. We’re not complainers, however, so we soldiered on. Round three results in another dirty for Rachael J., but I switch over to a Manhattan because I need a break from whatever the bartender was doing to the martinis. Now, I like Manhattans. When I’m feeling good and have some time to myself, I’ll fix up a really fine Manhattan: Vya sweet vermouth, peach or orange bitters, Knob Creek if I’m feeling sassy, Old Rittenhouse for when I’m extra sassy. Maybe a brandy soaked Bing cherry. In other words, Manhattans feel like home – they’re like a warm blanket I can wrap myself in and not feel scared. I was scared of having another martini, so I ordered a Manhattan, hoping it would make me feel better. It was bad. Not as bad as the shitty one I had at 2022( ), but really similar – strange color, sour taste, and my date made me move farther away because the smell of it was making her sick. On to round four: her, one last dirty, and I got the same(if I’m going to have a shitty drink, I’d rather it be something I don’t love and adore), and this was the worst of the lot – our waitress was nice enough and gave us both space and attention, but I think the bartender was literally trying to kill us. If this martini was anything other than olive juice + vermouth, I would be both surprised and amazed. End of story, we tipped and bounced out. Now, ordinarily I’d feel a little uncomfortable giving a review about the whole restaurant after having only been in the bar. BUT, if you can’t make a goddamn martini(vodka + vermouth), why in hell would I trust you with a hamburger? I wanted to give this place three stars, because our server was pretty darn good. But a good performance by one waitress just doesn’t erase the fact that these were overpriced and shitty drinks.

Yummy. My boyfriend and I were famished when we decided to have a late lunch at Long Bar. The dinner menu was not available, so we ordered off the bar menu. I always try to order calamari wherever I go because its hard to find calamari that you barley have to chew. I’d say this calamari was pretty tasty. It’s not the best I’ve ever had but I would recommend getting it if you’re there. We also ordered the truffle oil orzo mac and cheese and it was delicious! So all in all, I can only say that I recommend the bar menu. We left VERY satisfied…

Went to the bar… Ten dollars… for a margarita. The absolute worse margarita I have ever had. Why? It was ten dollars for tequila and lime juice. I saw him make it. Nothing else went into it and it tasted like crap. But when I tried to get the bartenders attention… he was too busy flirting. and flirting… and flirting. And when I went back to close out my tab… it took about eight minutes. Because he was busy? Nope. Cus this time he was having a very serious conversation with a tall blond girl about the weather. Seriously. There were two of us waiting and we were completely ignored. Get a new bartender and I might be back. But I have better things to do than wait around while the bartender tries to score… and that so called margarita was just sad and disgusting and overpriced. Tequila and lime juice does not a margarita make. One extra star cus the bar was long, just like it says.

Although this bar isn’t necessarily my scene, it’s good for a few purposes: an intimate date, a celebration of sorts or a night out when you feel like putting on collared shirts and frilly dresses. Doing so won’t make you feel over-dressed, but you can get away with even less formality here if you choose. The drinks are decently priced and our bartender was really nice. He made a drink for my friend that he had created but didn’t have a name(that involved raspberry stoli and champagne). When a woman next to us couldn’t decide on which wine to order, he poured a little of two different kinds and let her try them both so she could make a decision. Impressive, sir. If my friends said they were taking me out to any bar of my choice, would I pick this place? Probably not. But I wouldn’t put up a fight if I had to meet them here either. If you’re looking for a place where you can come in a hooded sweatshirt, jeans, your favorite hyphy belt and obnoxious shoes and not feel slightly out of place, keep on walking. This won’t be your new neighborhood hang out.
