The beers on tap are pretty standard fare, but there are at least a dozen options. There are plenty of televisions that show all of the relevant sports matches. The regulars are a bit rowdy and always up for a conversation, and the bartenders are incredibly friendly. Cute little back patio. And they are open to having dogs in the bar(which I’m all about). Pretty solid dive bar on Haight. Three stars because I’m a beer snob who prefers more craft options and the ability to bring in my own food(from Rosamunde across the street).

trivia night on thursdays! a fun lil divey bar but only sells wine and beer. no outside food either. they make a point to make sure you dont eat any outside food. pretty good beer selection on tap. ordered 2 drinks at 10 and 12 bucks and i asked the waitress to combine them too. she told me 14. i was like sweet! great deal. :) gets crowded for trivia night and people are super serious about it. plenty of tables. they turn the pool tables into regular tables so more people can sit which is cool. a beer and wine place thats cheap and fun in the city. lots of tvs to watch games. they had soccer on when i was there.

Cool spot, but lacks in execution. Happy hour specials are hardly even specials. Minimum on the card that makes it pretty impossible to sit down for one drink alone. Being a bartender seems like a job that is really pretty easy to be cool, but these ones don’t seem to get it… won’t chill & chat, don’t seem happy, and don’t really offer much other than a set of arms to pour drinks and give you change. It’s a shame being so close to a bus stop and so many laundromats that they don’t really cater to the random person walking in just for a drink.

Decent selection of beer, terrible staff. Rude and unaware. Slow Sunday and 2 of us sit down to eat and drink with our two friends(who’s beers were very low) and nobody comes to the table. After about 15 minutes I asked the bartender if there was a server, and he said«yeah. She’s somewhere around here». Nice…

Honestly, the name was the draw. We were passing by and had to stop in. We ended up drinking multiple pitchers of beer of a few games of poorly played pool. There are plenty of televisions so there were a good crowd of people watching various games.

The server was great The nachos were ok. Also, they only serve beer.

Good beer selection, but be prepared for rude bartender and waitress when it’s not busy. Toronado across the street is better.

Really weird — we received terrible service or just outwardly mean attitudes from 2 – 3 different employees, but 1 bar tender was nice. Great beer though.

We’ve been coming here for years to watch Packers games and sincerely miss Jules(both of them) and Derek(sp?). We love Mickey and the overall vibe of the bar. We love the food; highly recommend the black bean quesadillas and wings! Have had Karissa as a server on a few occasions… she’s just not the same… no friendly smiles, forgets orders(and blames it on us), and just not as genuine as the old crew. #bringbackjules

I usually come to this bar to play the trivia quiz on Tuesdays, but as that’s an extremely popular night, so I hope the owners do pay attention to the review. First, the bar lacks coziness and seating room ever since its new reincarnation in its current shape. Sure, there are booths out there, but it’s simply not enough space for all willing to play. I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets too full even on a regular night. The other benches and bar seats do not really make a good seating for groups. The quizmaster was this Irish geezer who was okay albeit slow and somewhat repetitive in his questions. Still, his presentation made it tolerable. The new guy, however, is just waaaay toooo slooooow. I don’t know if the bar encourages him to be slow hoping people would buy more drinks or what, but it’s Tuesday night, for God’s sake, and not everybody can stay past 11 pm, especially for a quiz starting at 8:30! Service is so-so — typical SF, where you can often wait for his/her majesty The Bartender to finally look in your direction. Decent beer prices for specials(in SF terms, of course). Terrible street parking, so beware. What else? I much prefer the Mad Dog’s sister pub Kezar, but I don’t think they do quizzes there, unfortunately.

The food was 3.5 stars The atmosphere is 4.5 stars(good patio, large windows on street, good for trivia and sports) The service is 1 star as it took at least 30 minutes to get a beer.

It might be OK as a sports bar showing football but if you want to go for a beer it is well below average. Arriving at about 7 on a Sunday evening we asked if they had a beer list. And was told no. We weren’t even given any choices. I just had to wander up and down the bar looking at the pull handles in bad light. I then went to the restroom and it was disgusting. We finished our drinks an left. A terrible terrible experience

The European football bar! I love going to this place on Saturday or Sunday mornings to watch the English Premier League(soccer). It’s a great atmosphere for a big game, as there are always fellow football fans eager to support their teams. There are plenty of big TVs to watch the game, and the breakfast is pretty good too. I usually order the bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast burrito, with a side orange juice. They also offer some English breakfast options, if that’s your thing. I can’t say I’ve ever been here in the evening, but I love the atmosphere on weekend mornings for EPL games!

The Mad Dog in The Fog is a typical pub /sportsbar on lower Haight st. For those of you not from SF this means it is not in the Haight-Ashbury area, despite its being on Haight the bar is a good 1 mile /20min walk from Haight-Ashbury. They take credit cards but the last time I went their card machine was broken so I would recommend bringing cash just in case. The bar itself is clean and spacious not cramped or overly divey. They have multiple large flatscreen TVs showing sports. They have some of their own signature beers available as well as your standard domestics, imports, along with some less common microbrewery beers, and a kitchen with your usual pub grub. They have a nice pool table but it is right by the front entrance so sometimes if you are playing and taking a shot on the far side of the table you are blocking people entering and leaving the bar by standing in doorway. +1 star: Nice pool table. +1 star: Clean overall! +1 star: They have a very spacious outdoor brick patio in the back. –1 star: Two of the beers on tap I got were completely flat –1 star: A bit pricey ~$ 7 – 9 per beer + tip and your money starts to go fast

Very disappointed. Came here for the rugby World Cup game between Wales and England. Upon arrival, was made to pay $ 20 to enter… ok I thought, should be worth it. It wasn’t. The main screen had a baseball game on throughout the whole rugby game, no one was watching the baseball. There were 30 of us crowded around a small tv smaller than what I have at home. A larger screen was also displaying an Italian soccer match which no one was watching. I asked the barman to change to the rugby. He said he would look into it. Apparently he didn’t as we continued to crowd around the tiny screen we were forced to pay for. The waitress in a word sucked. And that wasn’t just my opinion. I asked for bacon sandwiches, they were served cold. When I asked for ketchup, she pulled a face. When I asked for the prosecco with orange juice as displayed on the menu, she informed me I would have to pay extra for juice. Upon complaining she pulled faces and«managed to get» a plastic cup of juice to go with our prosecco from the bar. Never in my life have I experienced such a bad waitress situation. In the end I closed out from the brunette and opened a new tab with a shorter haired waitress, she was very nice and I feel bad for her having to work in this obviously customer indifferent environment. Oh and ps. After half time, no one else had to pay for the privilege to be made to feel like sh*t

They have beer and lots of it. But no liquor here so be warned. Bring your own maybe just don’t tell the bartenders! Only joking that’s unethical. Décor is fun and cool. Lots of tvs and a pool table the music is kind of like electronica/dance but not a total head ache. They only had one porter on the menu so have a few choices ready for the bartender in the event that they are out of your first choice(as was the case with me) otherwise super cool and fun

Doesn’t look like it from the outside, but it’s actually quite big and roomy on the inside. Plenty of TVs with a very large screen in the back. I like the high table by the window the most. Bartenders are super nice.

Came here during Bay to Breakers for some lunch and beer. It was pretty packed but we were able to get a booth. Its SUPER dark in there. Gosh. It was so difficult to see the menu. There’s a pool table and an outdoor area. The main reason why I had a semi bad experience here was because of the food. I ordered a chicken club. Our food took FOREVER to get to our table. I’m pretty sure the food sat out there for a while before they brought it to us because my sandwich was cold. Straight up cold. The bread was still toasted but the chicken was cold and rubbery. Pretty sure it was precooked and microwaved and then left outside for forever. The fries were bland. The only redeeming factor was the beer. They have a mad dog pilsner which is pretty good. Still can’t get over that nasty sandwich though

Went here to get drinks during Santa con! The service was great and the bar food was good too. I got the chicken strips and they were crispy and hot. They give you the hot sauce and also ranch or bbq as well which is nice of them. It doesn’t come with fries, just chicken strips. They have a good selection of beers! They do not sell liquor though only beer and wine which was a little downer for our group but we stopped there, got a beer, and went on our way!

Open on Thanksgiving and many other major holidays. Beer is cheap and the food is good. Beer and Wine only but they’re from all over the world.

I like the bar scene here! They deck this place out when it comes to a certain themed holiday! They have a wide variety of beer selections and TVs hung for an adequate view of the game going on! Their wings are nicely fried and of the norm of buffalo flavored! Yum! They have other bar grub food as well! Wings, however, are a classic favorite of mine! They have an outdoor patio so you can treat this place as a biergarten, by all means!
