Wow, we really didn’t know how much we’d miss Ray until we tried the newly taken over Manor this weekend for breakfast. We sat at the counter because we couldn’t get a table and it was only two of us. We ordered two coffees and two ice waters and waited kind of a long time to get our coffee and the waiter forgot the ice waters. The menu is super small– not nearly as many choices as the former Manor coffee shop– boy do I miss the swiss popeye bacon omelette!!!(and the beautiful fruit platter that Ray always made for us!!!). I ordered two eggs over easy with potatoes and bacon. Best thing on the plate was the potatoes. My over easy eggs were way too runny in the white of the egg(mine are better). Bacon could have been crisper. My husband ordered the corned beef hash cake with poached egg. Sadly the corned beef hash was out of the can(which for $ 14 plus bucks is kind of outrageous). Ray’s corned beef was real and sorely missed!!! Servers were very nice and courteous/apologetic about the somewhat slow service. The most curious thing is the slogan on the back of the server’s tee shirt–«Manor coffee shop, where the customer is always wrong»!!! WTH— not sure that this sarcasm is going to garner any accolades from former or future customers, so we’re thinking they may want to ditch the shirts)-: We probably will not return.

The June 2, 2016 opening of The Manor has been long awaited since our beloved Manor Coffee Shop was sold to Michael Gonzalez and closed six months ago. You can find a smattering of new June 2016 Unilocal reviews mixed in with the Manor Coffee Shop listing. The Manor has arrived; new and welcomed. It is, and it isn’t — the bones are intact, with a new coat of paint and a new menu. Hours are 7:30 am to 8 pm — closed on Mondays. We were seated at 5:30 pm on Saturday — Day Three. The menu is a work-in-progress with breakfast served All Day. Some menu items are not yet available… the Frog’s Legs $ 9.95/Starters will appear on Sunday. On our way home from a day in the sun and music at Jazz on The Hill in San Mateo, we were peckish and found street parking in front of The Manor. it’s a sign… and it read ‘Come in’…sit right down and order… bowl of The Manor Chili/large $ 7.95, Root Beer Float/$ 6.50, The Manor Burger on Sesame Bun/$ 10.95 with salad or fries. The 1⁄3 lb burger arrived at our booth, beautifully medium-rare as requested with a nice char on its meaty goodness and a toasted sesame bun — with a crisp salad of chopped lettuce and Italian dressing. The 3-meats chili is a good bowl of red, sprinkled with grated cheese and very diner-worthy. Root Beer Float topped with whipped cream satisfied my whim. Read the website at and go to sfgate for the menu

I got a strawberry-banana smoothie there. It was one of the best!

Long time overdue review. Experience 1: I came here during a busy day, immediately was seated and presented a menu. Received my food, ate, paid, and left happy. 5 out of 5 stars! Experience 2: Came in on a slow day, sat down on the diner stool and was provided the menu a bit late, but restaurant seemed to be finishing up with other clients. I was one of five or six groups of people(s) there and not once for 30 minutes was I approached to take my order. The waitress stated on four separate occasions that«someone will be with you,» I waited patiently as she sat a table and took their order. I don’t mind getting shafted for five, ten, fifteen, or twenty minutes. but to have the audacity to not take my order after 30 minutes is not acceptable in any slow or fast restaurant business. This is the only restaurant where I walked out of disappointed and never went back. Not a single waitress or employee stopped me nor asked why I left. To this day I can never eat here until new management is put in place. Thank you for ruining my trust. Edit: This is the only place I’ve ever walked out of without eating a meal where I intended to go. Please don’t wear that like a badge of honor and help your business grow. . P.S: Hope new management sees this and makes changes, would love to come back to a local diner!

I grew up eating at Manor Coffee Shop. They’re switching owners soon but I’m still glad it’ll be around! I hope it’s just as good as Chef Ray’s kitchen! The inside of this typical old school American diner is so cute especially when they have their holiday decorations up! The waitresses are the cutest in their diner uniform as well :) I’ve tried a lot a lot of their dishes and have only great things to say about this place!!! Their pies are toooo

The corned beef omelette was insanely good. The crunchy munchy chicken wings were just okay. Terrific service.

Why Hubby’s Dad Likes Manor Coffee Shop: 1) It’s a family owned diner that has been around forever. 2) For ~$ 30, he can get a Teriyaki Burger and sweet potato fries, his daughter-in-law can get an Egg Muffin and his son can get a Double Decker Egg Muffin. 3) Enthusiastic Halloween décor complete with witches crashed into the wall, automated ghosts and a big basket of dum dums. 4) It still has formica countertops, classic counter stools and spaces next to the booths where jukeboxes used to be. 5) Simple food, good value and old school character. This review is for Manor Coffee Shop during lunch. For a small operation, these guys have it down. I was seated immediately and given a drink and menu. Can’t say I expect more at that point of my dining experience. My food order took less than 10 minutes to arrive(Egg salad sandwich and green salad). The food was very good and there was more on the plate than I could eat(I’m 200 lbs +, so you know it was a large plate of food). Susan waited on me and never skipped a beat. She refilled my drink without me promoting and was very attentive. Good job Susan. I have a hard time giving a coffee shop a 5 star rating, but, for what they are, they did very well today. One negative is they are cash only; not a fan.

Miss manners. She gives good advice: She gives good food: Friendly server holding down the counter at one of West Portal’s signature diners. Smiled taking my order. Glass of water while waiting. Left appreciating the good vibes and a French roll packed with turkey, grilled onions and an unexpected side of cranberry sauce(bacon is standard too) along with a slice of pumpkin pie. Sandwich was fresh and filling(extra $ 1 for side of fruit instead of fries) and dessert was sweet and worthy of the accolades on the menu. Apparently the pies are legendary. Only my wallet was disappointed. $ 17 for the pair was a bit on the steep side. Just missed four stars.

With cramped seating, poor ventilation(it gets hot… not smelly) and wanting cash only… you would think I would rate this lower, but friends in the SF storm of food porn there is something to be said for a traditional safe harbor that serves breakfast until 2p and who’s menu has not changed much since I first ate here in the 80s. Waffles, corned beef hash, large Cobb salads, and much more… American diner fare served with great consistency by nice ladies in uniforms that won’t let your glass of water get less than half full all at very affordable pricing.

Manor has an old-school charm with a wisecracking waitress who seems to really enjoy providing friendly service. The food reminds you of what you might miss from home. For this visit, I ordered the eggs benedict florentine that came along with hash browns. I’ve never had hollandaise sauce, so no experience comparison, but I personally didn’t care for the sauce smothering my eggs and English muffin. The hash browns were good but could be crispier. I’ve also had their great French fries, silly spuds, and custard pie for take-out.

This place is cute, and has a old diner feel to it. We came here on a weekday for brunch. I expected this place to be a mom and pop shop, welcomed by the locals of West Portal. We walked into the diner and was not greet or asked to be seated, so we decided to seat ourselves at the bar. There were about 3 to 4 more people at the coffee shop and the waitress was grabbing orders from one table and rushed to the bar to ask us what we would like to drink. It gave me complete anxiety as I watched the waitress run from one side of the diner to grab the food, running and carrying a handful of dishes over to the table, and then running to us to take our orders, and then running over to the other table. The entire time that she served anyone, she was running from one side of the coffee shop to the next. The place has a large variety and selection of breakfast and lunch items, I even tried convincing my boyfriend to order their popular potato spuds, but it was just way too early in the morning to be eating potato chips :(I can see that they also tried to incorporate a little bit of ‘flavor from the islands’ a bit into the menu which I particularly liked. The food came out quickly, and we were handed the check literally two minutes after we got our food. We still took the time to eat our food and take a look at the décor of the coffee shop. The food was decent and I was full from the corned beef hash I ordered. I love that they have a variety of coffee drinks and also serve Hawaiian shaved ice! I would probably come back to try their potato spuds and Hawaiian shaved ice, but overall felt that this coffee shop was decent.

Something happened. Their corned beef hash used to be good. They’re no longer good. The service is also brusque to us. Regulars treated in almost family like manner. We will not be coming back.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning. I had just finished a barre class and I was absolutely famished for a grilled egg sandwich. Manor Coffee Shop was just around the corner, so I decided to pop in. It’s a cute little diner style restaurant with counter and booth seating. I’m sure weekends are busy days, so it took a little while for a server to acknowledge me. No biggie. After trying to make eye contact and standing around awkwardly for 5 minutes, I was finally approached by a server that didn’t even look as me as she was trying to take my order. Half way through my order, she said hold on and walked away to tend to another customer. I wanted to walk out of the restaurant at this point. Finally, after more waiting, another friendlier server approached me and took my order. She was very pleasant and had my food out in no time. In the end, it was $ 7 for an egg sandwich that was dry, had no taste, and with unmelted American cheese. It was quite disappointing. Well, on the plus side, they do have a very comprehensive menu with lots of your typical diner/breakfast classics — from melts to pancakes and sandwiches and more. I took a quick glance at the food on the tables surrounding mine and it does look and smell promising. I guess an egg sandwich was just too simple. So yeah, it’s not so much a coffee shop.

Was in the West Portal neighborhood completing an errand when I ran into an old friend. She suggested we go to Manor Coffee Shop to ‘catch up’. Going here was very bittersweet. Before my Mom passed away two years ago I took her to Manor Coffee Shop probably every 2 weeks for the last year of her life. She enjoyed it so much and would ALWAYS order a Waffle and Bacon for breakfast. I sure do miss her! Anyway, my friend and I ordered breakfast. I had the corn beef hash, eggs and hash browns and my friend ordered blueberry pancakes. As usual, their food and service was impeccable. I was flooded with lots of memories. Highly recommend this diner. I love you Mom.

When I park mah car on West Portal, or hop off the K metro muni, this is the place I go to when I wanna take a blast to the past. The Manor Coffee Shop has been around for a long time, and it definitely has loads of nostalgia happening there. The diner-esque feel contributes to that. Pros: — A nice piece of the past for West Portal. — Super friendly workers, the ladies there are adorably helpful. — Their menu consists of breakfast, lunch, and dinner ~ — There’s always a homey aura within the atmosphere of the place. — Potato Spuds. Comes in a varietg of flavors. — Food is cheap and pretty much affordable. — Never crowded, the wait time is never long. — Fun bar to sit at to drink coffee and have breakfast. — They have a kids menu for children. — Across Two Catz Comics(this is a major bonus for me) Cons: — As cool as the old cash register is, it only takes cash, so you better fill up your wallets or pockets with some monies. — A lot of the food is pretty average. Nothing amazingly spectacular. — Parking near here is horrendously limited. — The restroom is a big claustronut and is located all the way in the back where the workers and chefs are. — The back area is scary dirty. I’ve always wondered what the hell the potato spuds were, but their model of one on each table always tempts me to order some. I’ve had the parmesan garlic and pizza flavored ones and they’re basically like potato chips that you can pull out from a large skewer. Super fun to eat, especially with kids. Sometimes, you just want to sit at a bar, without alcohol, and drink ya black coffee and read the newspaper :).

I had my first Manor Coffee Shop meal soon after moving to the Bay Area in 1984. Has it really been 30 years already? I was recently in the West Portal neighborhood and made sure I had Lunch here. It’s still very retro in terms of decoration, linoleum counters, and waitresses in traditional attire. One even called me «Hon». It also remains a «cash only» business, but ATM help is close by. I sat at the counter and ordered a blue cheese burger, fries, and lemonade. I would have preferred a beer, but this place is no alcohol. My meal was served fast, hot, and it was all delicious. I remain a fan and hope the Manor Coffee Shop is here for at least another couple decades.

Such a cute little 50 styles diner. Love their little diner waitress uniforms. I ordered the mighty omelette and got a side of fruit. It was gigantic! The omelette was overall pretty simple, like something you could make in your own kitchen but the experience was so lovely. I can imagine coming in here and sitting alone at the bar and having a great time. It’s the type of place I would love to be a regular at. The waitress knew the order for the guy sitting behind me by heart!

This place didn’t strike me as amazing until I walked through its glass doors. They just finished putting up Christmas decorations. I felt like I walked into a winter wonderland, complete with Santa’s legs dangling from the ceiling. It was a blast from the past as the diner was covered with 50s paraphernalia. We sat at the bar & ordered hot chocolates. The server was great! She was this sweet Asian lady who was very attentive to our needs. The hot chocolates, however, were nothing spectacular(ghirardelli powder mixed with steamed reduced fat milk). It was a little overpriced too($ 3 a glass). But what made our stay worthwhile was the garlic & cheese spud(a potato slices into thin pieces & fried). It tasted like a healthier version of a potato chip despite the high salt content. On our way out, they allowed us to take some Christmas candy. All in all, it was a nice getaway from the neighborhood Starbucks.
