I cant get enough of the fashion and shopping in San Francisco’s Chinatown! There are a million little shops throughout the neighborhood that are full of interesting sweaters, jackets, shoes, and accessories hailing from China and über-hip Japan. The downside of loving the imported fashions here is that most of the clothing runs extremely pricey. I strolled by Masterpiece this last weekend and even though the price tags were steep($ 100 – 250), I knew I was walking out of there with something because they jackets were seriously Cute. Yes, I capitalized the letter ‘c’. They had everything from long, tailored professional jackets to wildly out-there, embellished boleros in plaids and patterns. I have searched high and low in Minneapolis for a good short jacket because all my coats from Goodwill, although classy, are long and heav. Besides I need something that makes my jeans look fancier than they ought to. There at Masterpiece I found the most amazing jacket I’ve ever seen. It’s an orange short jacket with snaps up the middle and oversized square buttons at the collar. The shape is like a blazer with a belt in the back and some random glitter in the material and did I mention it’s fully lined with silk leopard-print? Yeah, it feels high class. Magically, the store owner considered us «such good friends» that I deserved a deep discount. How incredibly generous of her. Personally, not the marketing strategy I would choose but if you can get people in the store and then schmooz them like that, I suppose it can work. In the end I payed less than half-price for what my mother later called a «monstrosity» but I maintain is a ‘sleek looking number’ that I plan on wearing a thousand times a week. If you are looking for a nice jacket, head down the hill to the edge of Chinatown on Broadway and take a look-see.
