MUNCHHAVEN is now the LOCALDINER Possibly under new ownership. PROS: 1) This restaurant excepts FOODSTAMPS. 2) Dank greasy spoon. 3) Try the loco moco w/eggs sunny side up. 4) Orders prepared quickly. CONS: 1) Often crowded. 2) $ 1.50 for a 12oz can of pop. 3) Panhandlers. 4) No parking.

I wouldn’t say I was all too thrilled when I actually graced this establishment — one group menu on the side all and more like a hole in the wall compared to the other diner four doors down. However, it was relatively priced and they had water. The owner knew her regulars and knew what they liked. The pancakes were kinda basic and not like the ones back home but the bacon is huge and tasty! They didn’t have breakfast burritos but everything else was good.

We ate here before a show at the Orpheium on the next block. We originally were going to try SAM’S Diner but it was packed. It has a wide variety of items from breakfast all day to sandwiches and burgers to Japanese dishes like salmon teriyaki. My sister and I both got BLTs, mine with fruit and hers with fries. My son got the salmon teriyaki with potstickers and his friend got the burger with fries. The BTLs were passable but there was too much mayo. My son loved his stuff and his friend, they are 12⁄13 and his friend is a fussy eater, was reasonably impressed. Not sure if I would try here again if in the area… but it was decent.

All things considered, I LOVETHISPLACE! It’s a very down to earth, judgement free environment. It was accepting ebt years before bk and the other chains and it unfortunately appeals to a lot of crazy people BUT the shenanigans aren’t tolerated for a second!!! The main guy taking and serving the orders is warm, friendly, hard working, and goes out of his way to make sure you get what you want. He treats people so nice that you leave here in a much better mood than you came in with!

A greasy spoon seemingly tucked away on busy Market Street. If you are in dire need for Diner Food you’re in luck. They have a pretty extensive menu, to the point of being overwhelming if you’re a first timer.

Excellent service! I wouldn’t say the best breakfast in town but certainly very good.

Good breakfast. The hash browns were great, the eggs just the way I like them, and the coffee was worth 3 cups.

Omg, this sandwhich was so good. It was cooked perfectly, and had great flavor. The fries that came with it were hella good too. This place is a little expensive for some people but its worth it.

My buddy and I came in here for a quick meal purely on a whim before the Giants Parade. Place was packed full of fans and locals alike and, truthfully, I was not expecting anything great. Small, cramped and pretty characterless, we went in and figured worse came to worse, we would at least have food in our bellies. The menu is posted on the side of the wall and you walk up to order(be sure to keep your receipt/ticket!). I went with the avocado bacon omelette, my friend the chicken avocado omelette, each with a side of white toast and hash browns. Because of the large number of people, food was slow getting out, and there was only one young Latino guy working the floor. Seriously, kudos to him. The other patrons in the restaurant were just nagging him for everything, despite him clearing tables, bringing food out, and hosting. Despite our food taking a long time to come out, it was fantastic. Huge omelette packed full of avocado and bacon with American cheese. Usually I am not a fan of American cheese, but this JUST worked well. Buttery toast and crispy hash browns rounded out well. Buddy and I left amazed and full. Recommended

I found this place on the way to work one morning and i have to say, it made my day. Definitely an awesome place to sit down and have breakfast, brunch, lunch, maybe even dinner! Well that may just be because i had their spaghetti, but still, its not everyday you get spaghetti with handmade sauces and healthy hearty serving! You can practically taste the love in the food – its nice and filling and the balance of the meat, tomato, and seasonings on the spaghetti makes for apleasant and charming dish with a touch that feels like home The place itself is cozy and the staff are friendly! If you let them, they’ll surely raise your spirits with a smile and a hello. Dont be scared to say hi to people!

I’ve been going to Munch Haven for years. I paid $ 14.07 for Chicken Fried steak meal with a glass of lemonade. Good food and friendly staff. The place is nothing fancy. If you want a quick bite to eat and your in the South of Market. I would recommend Munch Haven.

By far the go-to spot for a great breakfast. Eggs benedict is aces. So are the omelets. It’s also hard to beat for lunch and dinner. Not really the place for a romantic rendez-vous or any kind of pretense. Anyone wanting no frills great food at very reasonable prices will dig it here.

Good ‘olé Market Street. Here we are in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and between 5th and Van Ness, you’d really have a hard time believing it. Mid-City is not the most glamorous part of town — although, gentrification isn’t far away. Craziness and dirtiness aside, this is the ‘hood where diversity of… well… everything reigns. If you want to sit and eat some decent diner food and watch it all go by, Munch Haven is a good spot. Munch Haven is pretty much classic, big, hearty diner food. Breakfast all day, and sandwiches, and diner entrees. This is my go-to spot when I want to have breakfast for lunch. It is not gourmet. That said, I’ve never had a bad meal. Nor have I left hungry. The omelet plate is big — with a huge side of hash browns(you can also get home fries — but, why pass up the HB’s?). You also get a side of toast. It always tastes good — out the door for under $ 11 – 12. Why I come back is this: I think the people who work here are extremely nice. I think they treat their diverse clientele with respect and dignity. It’s fine if you’re coming from your office job. It’s fine if you are down on your luck. I’ve witnessed a lot of genuine kindness along the way — and, I leave full.

Friendly staff, the CA Philly cheesesteak was good and filling. They do all homemade dressings and sauces. The ranch dressing lacks flavor/texture, but the vinegarette has great flavor. Hot sauce is awesome!

3 stars for the fact that they accept EBT, yes its a plus that offsets the prices which are a bit high to be honest, especially for regular customers. The location is in a VERY dodgy part of Market street. Service is fast, most often friendly, coffee is ok– not great, & the cups are too small even with refills. For breakfast I fancy the blueberry pancakes with different sides. They do nice sandwiches & chips as well. Ive tried their spaghetti bolognase which was nice,; on a cold day I had soup which seemed home made. Food here is defeniteky descent!

I have been going here since it opened as a hot dog place about 10 years ago. It was Show Dogs before Show Dogs, but it didn’t work back then and they sold it to the present owners who changed it to a place that emphasizes breakfasts. The lunches and dinners are good too, but obtainable elsewhere. Munch Haven is the only local spot I know where I can get Eggs Florentine, chicken-apple sausage, grits, and home-fried red potatoes. The food is always fresh, and because of my request(you’re welcome) they have Tapatio. They also accept EBT.

The food here at Munch Haven can only be described like this: Think as if all your favorite American comfort foods all joined forces to become… Captain Planet! Da dun dush. Besides it’s horrible location within the slums of San Francisco aka Civic Center Tenderloin aka HOBOLAND, Munch Haven is a surprising hole in the wall that is actually quite good. Moderately priced large portions of delicious fried goodness? Count me in. Every fried American fetish you could possibly have exists here… not to mention a variety hot dogs, burgers, and a bunch of other sinfully unhealthy concoctions. Oh and yea, they have your selections of «salad» for you weirdos who actually come here trying to find something guiltless. But going here for that kinda defeats the purpose; like going to whore for a hug, amirite?(Then again, I’ve heard the salads here actually taste good… whatttt) If you can excuse the creepy people who occasionally wander in, this humble but warm little gig is a great place to drown out your sorrows in an endless supply of junky fried goodness that won’t break your credit card. The employees here are also quite pleasant. C:

So, I am going to thwart it before it even begins… I see a million and one prurient beginnings from the name of this diner… yes, I do(and that’s all I’m saying about that!) The food was astounding… really tasty breakfast. It’s not often that I order hash browns that are thoroughly crisped and pleasing to the tongue, and I certainly got to enjoy them here. A very reasonable menu with prices that are competitive, to be sure. For about $ 7 – 8, I was super full and ready to begin my urban hike around the City. Corned beef hash breakfast was on point. However, the problem is this: I started smelling faint whiffs of … uh. nitrogen-containing substances from the disenfranchised folk who too were breakfasting. After a few minutes, even the latina cashier made a comment, and we spoke to one another in Spanish, offering our guesses as to the several perpetrators, thereby ruining the whole experience for me. Yes, this place is on Market st, and yes, it is very nearby to CC Bart. … no comment.
