Love the fresh squeezed juice. Always smells like something tastey is cooking when I walk in. The sandwiches I’ve tried are all delicious. Everyone that works here has been very kind.

I’m back again in SF and stopped by my favorite café. As always the spinach/cheese/mushroom omelet was great with a small serving of fresh fruit. It appears there are a few new employees however the owner Luz was here and as friendly and courteous as always. This is a great place to work quietly as the offer free WiFi and free refills on coffee. Very well lit and bathroom easily accessible. I saw a few negative reviews of late about speed and bagels but like many sole ownership small businesses there will be times things do not function perfectly. However in the four years I have coming here I have never had a reason for complaint.

Very slow service and not so great food. 25 minutes for a bagel is ridiculous and they use day old bagels that are under toasted. Coffee is ok. Place is starting to look very dingy if not dirty. Contrast with Martha’s bagels three blocks away. Always well toasted and a buttered one is absolutely delicious and addictive.

They forgot our 2 bagels. The restaurant was less than half full, and after waiting 20 minutes and reminding them of our order they took 15 minutes to prep 2 bagels…

A+ for effort. The mama of this little café is really trying. The food is pretty good. Lattes are excellent. Fresh juice combos are a bit spendy but epic combinations like carrot, beet w lemon and ginger kick the pants off any immune bug your fighting. What seems like them try ing to offer a bit of everything on the menu leaves them a little scattered and at the lunch rush can be quite a wait for your order even if there is still plenty of seating. While they offer huge variety on the menu I think most things they do are just OK. But I’m sure after more sampling of the menu I just might find some thing that they really nailed.

I was visiting family in the Bay and wanted something to eat nearby. Came across this café on Unilocal.I ordered a bagel with humuus, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Plus, I ordered a Mexican Mocha. The café is cute, friendly staff, nice location, reasonable prices; but the food is mediocre. There is nothing spectacular nor super yummy about the food-just ordinary. Given that, I would eat here again because food is decent and I SUPPORT small businesses.

Great café right down the street from my second home! ;) Good, strong coffee, and fresh tasty food. I often have breakfast/brunch here, and have always been greeted with a warm welcome. My only(small) complaint is the $ 5 card minimum. I don’t generally have cash, and it’s pretty hard to make a purchase here for $ 5. Everything hits just before(like $ 4.75…Haha)! Guess I should start carrying more cash with me.

New Alternatives Café is a very comfortable small neighborhood breakfast and lunch café. We’ve eaten here a few times as it is around the corner from where we stay when in San Francisco. You get a warm comfortable feeling as soon as you walk in the front door. I’ve always had sandwiches or paninis for lunch and they are very good. I haven’t tried the breakfasts, but I understand they are excellent also. Large menu on the wall behind the deli counter. The Women working there are very helpful and friendly. They have free Wi-Fi too. We will keep eating here

Very strange coffee shop. My chai latte was yummy when I got it and my cheese croissant was huge and pretty good! I cut back on the stars for very slow service. My latte took at least 8 minuets and my croissant took about 15. Needless to say they were 2 ladies working on my order and it felt like it was taking forever! It’s a good thing I wasn’t parked at a meter!

Cute small spot for a quick, light breakfast or panini. Friendly service, fresh ingredients. I’d check it out again for sure. Best to avoid weekends and lunch time, unless double wide strollers are your scene. Sunset open faced bagel is spot on.

New Alternatives is a small, cheerful and comfortable neighborhood café offering coffee/teas, organic foods, smoothies and fresh pressed juices. There are 8 tables inside and three tables outside on the sidewalk. Counter service; free wi-fi. Inside you’ll find tables that can be arranged to seat 2 – 4 per group, as well as an easy chair and sofa if you want to kick back. Large front windows let ample light into this corner café. 2 TVs which were great for me to watch the soccer matches. In addition to the free wifi, there is a computer available if you need it. The bathroom is funky but clean! Your dogs will appreciate the thoughtfully placed water bowl outside. We ordered the $ 7.50 huevos rancheros and one of the house juice blends: mango, orange and banana with kale. Both were excellent; the huevos were as authentic as any I’ve found, with house made salsa that was delicious. We’ll stop in anytime we’re in the area! At a Glance: FoodDrinks: 4 — Fresh, delicious, organic! Service: 5 — Luz was friendly and expedient. Setting: 4 — Corner location, outdoor seating, Guerrero/28th location. Value: 4 — The food is excellent and it’s a deal. Date worthy: 3 — It’s a great spot to catch an informal breakfast/lunch/coffee. Dogs: Outside OK!

I love this café! I spent hours here one day and had the pleasure to get to know Luz the manager– a very pleasant and friendly person. When you walk in, the café has a charming ambiance that is welcoming and cheery. You order at the counter where you’ll see their menu written on several blackboards up on the wall. You have an abundant variety of choices from paninis, sandwiches, salads, egg bagels/breakfast, coffees, teas, iced drinks, smoothies and juices. Food items are less than $ 10, smoothies and juices are under $ 5 and are organic. Food– I had the huevos rancheros which were delicious! They come with ham grilled in the middle of 2 corn tortillas, 2 eggs on top and a savory green sauce plus a side of pick de gallo with avocados. $ 7.50 Ambiance– It is a comfortable café furnished with a couch, an easy chair, and the regular tables and chairs — 8 tables and one is larger placed in front of the couch. It’s airy and with lots of light coming in from the front windows. They have 2 TVs which were great for me to watch the soccer matches. They also have free wifi and a computer to use for internet users. The bathroom is clean and with plenty of to and paper towels stocked — a w rare in sf. They have outdoor seating too and they provide a water bowl for your pooch. This wasn’t a loud café — we were able to concentrate on work when we weren’t distracted by the game. There’s a shelf with books for book exchange. This is a great find and one I’ll be bookmarking so I can return here next time I’m in sf and am looking for a café.

A great small mom and pop vibe coffee spot a short walk from Mitchelles ice cream. If the line is long take the excuse to warm up with their mocha. I tried the white chocolate one and it was so delicious! They look to have awesome paninis and other sammiches. A great place to grab something to bite or relax. It didn’t have the«we are all on laptops trying to look cool» vibe most coffee places have(phillz not included). They have a bookshelf and toys and an electric piano. Kinda don’t event want to hype this place because it definitely seems like a neighborhood secret but it has such yummy coffee made with care I had to share.

New horizons. Expand your mind: Expand your palette: Chicken mole, lettuce, tomato and pickle on wheat bread. Not nearly as heavy or chocolaty as expected. Just uniquely delicious. Followed by a perfectly blended sugar free vanilla Americano with a dash of nonfat milk. Capped with a lowfat vanilla parfait with an impressive quantity of granola and medley of orange, apple and banana slices plus strawberries and blueberries. Only thing wobbly were two of the tables. Give it a little shake before sitting down to enjoy your food and free WiFi. Everything amplified by a very friendly and attentive staff. Clearly this is their pride and joy and want to make sure every customer leaves happy and satisfied. Job well done.

New Alternatives Café is perhaps one of the best kept secrets in San Francisco. It has some of the best coffee and food in the city, and it’s super cozy. There’s couches, comfy chairs, outdoor seating perfect for the sunny Mission district, and computer to use /internet(with a purchase). There’s even a book exchange! The owners are incredibly friendly and remember you if you come regularly. This is a great place to work or socialize over breakfast or lunch. I’d love to see it expand to hours later in the day, but for now, enjoy it while you can!

Popped in for quick latte to go during a walk of shame in Bernal Heights. Don’t judge me. You’ve all been there. Inexpensive and delicious. Four stars not five because it was a bit of a wait for it being so slow that morning. But maybe I was just cranky because I was wearing last night’s clothes.
