Quick + yummy sammies for the student/professional on the go. Also, do come here if you want a BEAUTIFUL view of the bay. You can spot the GG bridge from here. When it’s nice out, shoot to sit in the patio! Palio is tucked in the UCSF Milberry Union Building. IF you’re craving something: * Healthy * Light * Refreshing Come here! I had a chicken salad sammie with fruits on the side. Other times I’ve been here, I ordered the salad, bagel + salmon lox egg sandwich, and coffee. I would skip out on the coffee if you’re picky. I wasn’t too much of a fan of it. Go to café central in the library for some good good! I’ll be back around when the going gets tough and I need to satiate my hunger!

Stopped in again this week hoping to buy one of the ready made sandwiches and salads – wouldn’t have taken more then 5 mins because all the service person needed to do was ring it up. I could see the talking in the back room, they kept looking out at me, but no one came out. I waited for 10 mins., even waving to them when they looked out. And then I left. Some manager type person really needs to have a talk with the staff here and make them understand that they are there to work, not to socialize with each other when there are customers(someone else walked in while I was waited, waited there for about 5 mins., then also walked out unserved). Had they been more responsive, I could see me buying food here a lot since I live in the neighborhood.

I have been placing a lot of catering order over the last few months with them. After the lunch events the attendees have good comments on the food. I appreciate their speed of service and nice staff. I also go their on my own for breakfast often. Thanks for the consistent great service and good food!

I really wanted to give this place a way better rating but the food is just so bland. I’ve been here on 4 separate occasions and have tried 4 different panini’s. Each of them were bland tasting and really overpriced for what you were getting. Grilled sandwiches are one of my favorite food items so after trying 4 different sandwiches on the menu and still not finding one that tastes great is disheartening. For $ 8-$ 10, you seriously should consider going somewhere else for lunch. The staff is very friendly and the view is amazing. Wish the food was on the same level.

Pretty mediocre food. I ordered a chicken panini hoping it would be good since the price was a bit higher than other places in the area. The sandwich was quite bland overall. I do commend the fact that the chicken was not dry, as that is often a common problem with lean cuts of meat. They did keep it simple with wheat bread, lean chicken, and vegetables. I probably won’t be coming back for lunch, but I might come here for a something small. The service is nice and they offer gelato, snacks, breakfast, and coffee drinks. If you’re looking for a decent option around UCSF, Palio is open early and seems to be quite healthy.

Delicious San Lazarro roast beef panini and a gorgeous SF view? What’s not to love! Palio Café is located inside the Milberry Student Union past the row of restaurants of fast food. It’s a quaint, simple university café catered to UCSF affiliates. All the foods are presented in glass cases with pre-packaged sandwiches, salads, anti-pasta, pastas, soups, etc. The overall menu is pretty healthy and they offer options of Half or Whole portion. Everything is under $ 10 and quite cheap! The customer service here is mediocre but it’s basically a fast food/take out café. There are about maybe no more than 15 tables here, so it may get crowded during lunch rush hour. Stop by for a tasty snack or hearty lunch! Affordable quality at its finest :)

Came here recently during a break from some treatment at UCSF and only tried their gellato ice cream. I ordered the coffee mocha and one of the caramel flavors I think. Pretty good, and not too bad for under $ 5 for the medium size. They had a nice balcony area as well, but a quarter of it was blocked off for construction. Service was kind of slow and weird though. One of the guys was having a hard time serving us because he said«Me zorry, I ned to ghet trained on how to scoop ze ice cream» WTF? Learn how to scoop? He literally had to get his manager to do the scooping for him, which took about 10 mins or so lol.

Can’t even remember which half panini I got. Also added the polenta with Bolognese. Everything tasted kinda plain. Don’t get the polenta as it was just bland cornmeal that was in serious need of a ton of cheese. That said, your other options at on the UCSF campus are even worse. Strange that they don’t have a good option for all the students going to school for HEALTHCARE here.

I do think Palio is a good take out restaruant. Today it was weather was cold and for the very first time I decided to get a hot dish to go(Rigatoni). They have ONE microwave to heat the hot dish and each order takes 2.5 min. I had 5 orders ahead of me and then my order… 20 min later I left with my food. It had cold spots because it was not stirred during the microwave time. It tasted fine. But don’t order hot food if you are in a hurry unless it is a panini.

3.5 stars The prices are a little steep, but it’s one of the better options in the UCSF area if you don’t have time to walk down to Irving or Cole Valley. They have many different paninis, salads, soup, hot drinks, and even gelato! Table seating is available inside and out on the patio where you can eat or drink in front of an awesome view of SF and the Golden Gate Bridge.

I’ve gone here about three times in three years. Each time is disappointing. First time I had polenta with marinara sauce — tasteless and way too hot — I burned myself eating it. Second time I got a pasta salad and as I was eating it I pulled out a big black, curly hair(looked very pube-like but I’m hoping it wasn’t…) and that should have cured me from eating there again. But no, I had to punish myself one more time and go back to order a sandwich about a year later. It was dry and tasteless and way overpriced. If you want a good sandwich, go down the hill to Woolly Pig. Their sandwiches are delicious and it’s so close to UCSF!

I’ve eaten here far too many times! But it really is one of the better options on the UCSF campus. Food is fresh and tasty. Soups and salads are wonderful and change daily, and although this place gets very busy over lunch, the staff are both efficient and friendly. I do wish their prices weren’t so steep though. They have a nice outdoor seating area(seriously lacking in SF!) with wonderful views over the GG Park, Pacific ocean and Marin, as well as indoor seating(which can get a little noisy when it’s busy). I have to give another shout-out to the staff — they’ve always been super friendly and helpful over the years I’ve frequented this place, and I value that.

Honestly, I try not to go here. I just feel the price is high for not as much. I have been going here once a week as my preceptors eat here for lunch. The sandwiches always rotate and they are always about the same price… $ 5(or near) for half a sandwich. which for me is a bit much, but they are good. This place gets busy and loud. The staff are friendly. The place has both in and outside seating and can get crowded. Price. as I mentioned. not what I am comfortable at.

Alright, they may not have the most memorable sandwiches. but their oatmeal cookies are bomb-diggity! I had a luncheon with my company, and Palio was our caterer… I swear, the cookies were the first to go. They were soft and chewy. yummmmm I want one now! I have not checked out the café, but i will make sure to do so the next time I’m in the area.

Overpriced but not bad. The paninis are fine and the salads are ok too, although I find them especially to be too small. It gets really crowded and the muzak is particularly godawful, so it’s most worth it to stop by on a nice day, sit outside, and enjoy the great view.

Didn’t know this place existed in the UCSF area! Such a cool view from the balcony! This is at the edge( ) but there are half a dozen tables outside. Got a drink this time but must return for some foods and hang out. Otherwise, parking is tough in this area due to the campus and hospital. The cross streets are steep too!

One of the better dining options at UCSF. Most of the items I’ve tried here have been pretty good– ham and cheese croissant, chicken with roasted tomato panini, and gelato. Great views of the City from their patio too. Only complaint is they’re a little pricey.

I came here to hang out with my friend during a lunch break. I can’t say much about the food or its prices since I only grabbed a small mocha(~$ 3), which isn’t the cheapest but not terrible for the quality and the fact that it’s in the UCSF campus area. We spent an hour on the patio chatting, facing the beautiful views of the SF skyline. Seriously, well-worth it for the aesthetics! They also serve Gelato Classico here… will be back to try that!

I stop in here a few times a week to grab hot chocolate or a bagel. The staff is always so friendly, I adore Gino who works in the mornings, always so friendly and polite and has a great smile. The food is great, salads are yummy. The coffee is amazing, bold and silky, can’t ask for more than that.
