They don’t offer greens. The side I chose can’t have been great because I don’t remember it. The service is very friendly. I remember getting the shortest ribs but there were enough of them to make up for it. The meat was a little dry and the sauce could have had a little more heat. Not bad but not really worth going out of the way for.

I just stumbled across Pittman’s #2BBQ on 3rd at Shafter. I got brisket, links, and pork ribs, with hot sauce. I never learn: I should have asked for sauce on the side. Instead, it was poured over everything. The place is big and properly divey. I did takeout and ate about 45 min. later at home. The sauce was good. Not very hot, but adequately tasty. The meat was all properly tender, but it was hard to determine flavor through the the swimming pool of sauce. The links, however, did hold up to the sauce. The portion was very good for the price. The cole slaw was average, but a large portion. I need to give it another try with sauce on the side. That needs to become my mantra.

Years ago when my grandparents retired, they went on a quest to find the best BBQ ribs in the Bay Area. I didn’t pay much attention at the time, but in retrospect, this might have been an early sign that I inherited their thirst for culinary adventure. How else do you explain my desire to try ever restaurant in San Francisco? I don’t remember which spot they claimed as the best. And I love my grandparents dearly. But they didn’t go to Pittman’s. And consequently, they were wrong. Pittman’s is the best BBQ I’ve ever had. Two days later, I’m, still marveling at how how much I enjoyed every moment of this experience. It started when I walked in, and the gentleman working the counter was asking another customer what he wanted. His exact words were«are you going to be snacking, or are you going to be eating?» Apparently this makes a big difference. The customer took a menu and sat down to ponder the options. I was quicker on my feet. I knew exactly what I wanted — the BBQ chicken. For $ 6 I received a massive amount of fall off the bone succulent chicken basking in perhaps the best BBQ sauce I’ve ever had. So good that this Unilocaler licked every morsel off his fingers and soaked up remnants from his takeout container with bread. Incredible sauce. The chicken also came with a side, I chose the outstanding baked beans, and two slices of bread. Wheat. As if I needed another reason to love them. Never in my life have I been compelled to call a restaurant and tell them how much I loved their food. At least until now. My grandparents are still going strong, and as I told my grandfather this weekend, their quest for the best BBQ is not complete. There is one more stop they have to make.

This place is not great, but neither is any other BBQ place in San Francisco. The first time I went I had high hopes. The crusty old guy behind the counter had a deep southern/texan accent, and when I arrived he was fiddling with a large pile of wood near the smoker. Not long after I ordered I saw him open the big iron doors to the pit and put a few chunks of wood in. This was going to be good… But then he opened the oven and I noticed that the beef brisket(what I had ordered) was wrapped up on foil while it was being cooked. WTF?! Who cooks brisket in foil? Sure enough the meat, although relatively tender, had little of the deep smoky flavor which sets good BBQ apart. It basically tasted like pot roast. Figuring I had just ordered the wrong dish, I went back a second time and got the pork rips. They were fatty and not exactly falling off the bone. Another disappointment. Also, the macaroni salad had some weird spice in it that ruined the flavor. Needless to say, I probably won’t be going back. I’ll give it three stars for actually being one of the few BBQ places in the City, which are far and few between. The quest for great BBQ in San Francisco continues…

I am from Huntis Point and I love this place. I don’t really get the BBQ to often, but the Fish and Prawns are so good. The Banana Pudding is to die for, I am so hooked on it. The people that work there are nice but look alittle wierd but the food is really good.

i wouldn’t even say that this is top notch or noteworthy bbq in san francisco, but fact of the matter is that i’ve been here and you have not, and not because i was trying to find something way out where the black people live but its because i grew up near here. this isnt even as much a review as it is a ‘lol, look where you havent been, honky’

I saw this by chance one morning as I detoured up 3rd St to get around a severe N101 backup. The pork ribs were moist(though not falling off moist) and flavorful. They had just taken my order out of the smoker when I got there so I guess they were pre-cooked and then«touched-up». I also had their«wingettes». Deep-fried with a slight peppery batter. The chicken strips looked to be done the same way(next visit). Good 1st visit and I’m pretty confident that Mr Pittman and his wingman(will have to get his name) will make this a regular stop for dinner on the way home fo me.

I like this place, the food is good but the service could be a bit swifter. This location is tons bigger than the one that was in the Filmore area, but that doesn’t detract from the atmosphere.

Well… I’m sure most of might not be daring enough to venture this way… which is friggin SWEET… more chicken for us! I was actually working in the Point for about a year and and stumbled upon a BBQ joint that didn’t have 20 people hangin outside… this place is about 3 blocks from there;) Place isn’t so much on décor, but the cooks are FABULOUS! I like the BBQ… but spicy is SPICYSPICE at this joint… so be careful. I always got the half chicken and baked beans… and it made my day.
