Potrero Hill Computers

There is no actual storefront at this address. It’s just a house. No services were purchased because there was no actual place to do anything… Three stars because there is no option for not leaving stars.

I left a message for Potrero Hill Computers this morning, because I needed to get my Mac’s hard drive replaced. I am tech-​savvy (got my own data off), but am superstitious about hardware replacement.
I got a call back within an hour, during which I was advised that the Apple store in SF might do the installation gratis if I bought the hard drive there. No luck, but I was impressed with a service provider whose first impulse was to help me solve my own problem rather than to take my money.
So, plan B: I bought a hard drive and called back. (I opted to buy my own hard drive.) Jason the repairperson came to my house, swapped out the drive, waited around to make sure that the OS install started ok and then took off.
Total charge: $ 50 (the minimum, one-​hour charge).
Total time: 30 minutes for my Best Buy run + 40 minutes for the repair.
Now, this was not fancy: the operation took place on my kitchen table, and, at one point, involved use of one of my own tools. But same-​day, on-​site service for $ 50/​hour is quite a remarkable thing; I’ll absolutely call these folks again for personal /​home office computing woes, and save the calls to $ 125/​hour places for mission-​critical office issues.
