Carol is the master of color, and Nicole is an amazing stylist! The salon just had a design makeover and looks fantastic. I find the atmosphere both chic and comfortable. Both Carol and Nicole listen to what you want and then give it to you better than imagined. I am always getting compliments on how fresh and natural my color looks, if only they could see the mousy grey hidden underneath!

David is fantastic! I love him. I just wish the others that worked with him were friendlier. The desk was unfriendly and cold. The owner interrupted his work multiple times. There was hardly any room for David to work. I’m glad he’s moving salons! Can’t wait to see you after the holidays!

Primp is the best!!! It had been quite a while since I colored my hair, and I was really in need of some freshening up. Luckily I had David at Primp to guide me through. He suggested some gorgeous red color blocking that I never would have thought of on my own, and gave me a fantastic cut as well. The color is so perfect for my eye color and skin, I am thrilled. Everyone in the salon is very friendly, they were smiling and immediately offering espresso when I walked in. David is wonderful to talk to, and his work is brilliant. I highly recommend Primp salon for your cut and color needs.

I’ve had my hair colored by Bri a few times and I can honestly say that I always leave the salon satisfied. The salon is nice, cozy, and welcoming. Bri is extremely talented and easy to speak to. She always offers suggestions and makes sure you get what you want. I definitely recommend her if you are looking for a great colorist!

Finding someone who can deal with my thick hair and do what I want is not easy. Bri did a wonderful job with my hair and I couldn’t of been happier. The cut and color was just what I wanted! My hair looked so healthy. She was very sweet and made sure I was comfortable. The location was cute and close to bart. Bri will be my hair person from now on :)

WOW! so impressed with Briana @ Primp and the AMAZING color job she did on my hair. And it was no easy breezy color job thats for sure. I walked into Primp salon with a disastrous mop on my head. I had a baby 10 months ago and as a result my hair has gone neglected for some time now. Small confession – so neglected that my last dye job came in the form of a box of Feria(I know, I know, sad). The result was not pretty especially after my roots and all the grays started coming in. So after 2 hours with Briana, I ditched my frumpy overtired mom look for something much more stylish and exciting. She got rid of my grays and my boring faded copper-brown color and added a soft caramel honey glow to my hair:) On top of being a talented stylist, I also found Briana easy to chat with and very easy going. Which made the time go by really quickly. Also, I must add that I had no time for my daily caffeine fix before the appointment(running behind –no big surprise there) —but it didn’t matter b/c upon arrival-I was offered a cup of coffee, tea, latte, cappucino etc. I opted for a Latte and let me tell you it tasted like they had a barista on hand(I ended up having 2). So thanks to Briana, my new sexy hair color and my 2 lattes – i left primp with a definite pep in my step:) Thanks Briana!

I’ve been going to Primp for a long, long, long time for color. I like natural, subtle, doesn’t-look– like-I-hit-the-bottle color and Carol has never failed to impress me. She is honest and will tell you why you can’t do this or that, e.g., I can’t put overly dark color on my grey if I want it to grow out beautifully. Her color is so fabulous, I can go 4 – 6 months and it still looks amazing. I *always* get compliments on my color.

I moved to San Francisco about a year ago and my only question was«Who is going to do my hair?» I’m one of those people who really cares about their hair but am not savvy enough to know the right terminology to describe what I want, especially when it comes to color. So over the years, I’ve had my fair share of frustration and tears but all that ended when I met Carol. I was referred to her by a receptionist at a salon I used to go to in Boston and it has worked out wonderfully. She’s patient and fun and somehow translates everything I describe to something personalized to best suit me. She’s gone through a few color changes with me already and each time is prettier than the last. I constantly get compliments on it. Gregory is equally fantastic. I’ve gotten both Keratin treatments and cuts with him and have been nothing but ecstatic. Definitely a great place with amazing talent.

Primp is the best salon for color and keratin treatments in the Bay Area. Carol and Gregory are masters at color, creating absolutely perfect color for everyone, and doing it quickly and enjoyably. Carol’s savvy for seasonal colorations is unique and Gregory’s amazing ability with the keratin treatment are unequaled.

For the first time in my life I can honestly say that I am head over heels happy about my hair. I went to master stylist Gregory Lucio at Primp to get the Keratin Complex Therapy treatment a few weeks ago and it was an amazing experience. Not only does my hair look beyond amazing – think perfect bedroom hair minus the hours-long styling time – but the long and laborious treatment went by in a flash thanks to Gregory’s friendly professional manner and efficient work pace. My hair reminds me of Giselle Bündchen on a good hair day and I am now hopelessly devoted to getting my hair done by the fabulous and ridiculously stylish Gregory Lucio. To top it off, Primp is a lovely salon with a sophisticated vibe and a convenient Union Square location, which makes the overall experience easy and hassle-free. I can’t say enough great things about Gregory and Primp. I live in NYC and I fly in to get my hair done there. Isn’t that proof enough that these guys rock?

Don’t go anyplace else in San Francisco if you’re planning to get the Keratin straightening treatment! Not only do I have the most perfect-on the cover of Vogue straight hair, but the price was right(and far below other salons I had called) and Gregory is the master of the process. He’s meticulous and careful about each step of what can be a harrowing procedure(If you don’t believe me, go watch the you tube videos of people doing the treatment!). He’s hilarious, gorgeous, and somehow makes the three hour time pass quickly. I still can’t believe I can exercise and not spend an hour blowing out my hair – which was what it usually took me before I had this done.

Primp now does The Keratin Complex Therapy. It’s like hair straightening without the harsh chemicals. It is amazing! I have had my hair chemically straightened before and it completely fried my hair. This stuff is amazing! Totally worth it! My hair is manageable even in the rain! AND you can do it even if your hair is hi-lighted or colored. SO great.

Carol has been coloring my hair for 18 years, and my color always looks great. She tweaks it every season and we have made changes thru the years to keep current. She listens, gives advice — is never pushy, and is consistent. I have NEVER had a bad hair color. Great location too, easy parking at Stockton/Sutter garage. I no longer live in the city, but will keep driving 45 minutes for great hair color.

Hairdresser got you in a funk? Roots and split ends driving you nuts? Enter Primp Salon; i.e. owner Carol Hillman and her staff. The salon is a lovely, quaint, well appointed space with a beautiful central chandelier and huge windows overlooking the Stockton tunnel. No loud conversations, overriding nail polish scent, lines or waiting… rather personal, friendly service with three to four staff at any given time, who are truly attentive to each client. Thanks to Carol(or more aptly, my best friend Tanya who referred me after too many almost, yet not-quite-there color jobs), I now have captured the sunny highlights I’ve always dreamed of. Carol is an expert colorist, who isn’t afraid to tell the truth, and the results prove her brilliance. I leave my hair fate in her hands from here on out. Finishing off a Carol color with a cut by John will have you bouncing out of the salon. John does simple, quick, gorgeous cuts that work and grow perfectly. The rub? Prices are on the higher side of reasonable… but people, we are talking hair here… invest! You wear it everyday!

The owner of this shop, Carol Hillman, has been coloring my hair for years. I trust her so completely that I still drive to SF four years after moving 30 miles away. She’s always making little tweaks and adjustments to my color but it’s never jarring(though I understand some folks are not going for subtlety). She’s not the cheapest and the place is a little on the small side but I plan to continue to drive to SF every 10 weeks for years to come because she’s the best!
