This Studio is located in the heart of San Francisco Union Square. It has such an amazing feeling. The colors and décor are thought out and extremely uplifting. The staff are all unique, warm and friendly. The owner Tereza is personable. Her spirit is definitely a huge part of what makes this salon, so special. They not only help with our outside beauty, but they help with our inside beauty and well-​being, with offering holistic services, as well. When I’m in town, I always look forward to my visit.

She does beautiful work. Really truly. Everyone leaves her salon looking happier and beautiful.

I have been getting my haircut here since I was a young adult, and love my hairdresser Tereza. She has been giving me hip hairdo’s since day one, and I have had no complaints. I have gone through so many hairstyles throughout the years, that I’ve lost count. This new location is beautiful, spacious, and well lighted.

Tereza is a great stylist. For us guys who are clueless about what to do, she’s great with setting you up with what you need to look nice.

The bright open airy space with a magical view of Market street from the tight fourth floor corner. Not to be missed. Tereza has been cutting my hair for many years now, always gets it exactly the way I want it, and we have tried some interesting things over the years. Aurora at Shapes is amazing! I called the St. Francis Hotel the day before I was heading to the city for an event and they made an appointment for me with Aurora. I knew I wanted an updo but had no clue what to do. My only instructions were «no prom hair and no matronly looks». She went to work and came up with a gorgeous, sophisticated, modern updo. I got so many compliments on my hair and it stayed put all night (til 1 am)! As a bonus, Aurora was so fun to talk to and the small studio had great natural light. I’ll definitely make an appointment the next time I have an event in SF.

wow! its been months since Aurora has touched my hair and let me tell you i wish i would treat myself to her more often!
i went to see her simply for a trim, let me repeat simply for a ¼ trim (im trying to let my hair grow out) and when i left i felt gorgeous! she did a wonderful job washing my hair, she has the perfect ‘massage hands’ :] I also asked her what she thought about me having shorter bangs and she said they were a perfect Length as is and did this amazing look by simply blowdrying my bangs with a roundbrush!
when i went to work on Monday, i received alot of compliments on my hair! can you believe that! Aurora simply gave me a trim and did this ‘pretty new trick to my bangs’ and everyone was in love with my hair. a few gals asked for Aurora’s number and they too hope to visit her soon! i told them she is well worth the 3 hour drive!

This place gets 5 more stars from me! I am a transplant from the East Coast, and for the past year I have literally been flying back to Boston to get my hair done by my longtime stylist. I have long hair and one too many bad experiences with it getting chopped off. I was nervous to go to someone new, but couldn’t keep flying across the country for a hairdo!
Finally, I went to Aurora on a friend’s recommendation. I am SO GLAD I did! She took the time to get to know me and my lifestyle. My highlights came out beautifully and she even talked me into bangs! She trimmed my hair just enough to keep it healthy but I barely noticed any length missing. Perfecto!
Btw: halfway through I was absolutely starving, sitting under the dryer with foils in my hair. Aurora went right downstairs and got me a sandwich from her favorite lunch spot… such a sweetheart :)
And as far as the salon, it is ALL WINDOWS so there’s great views of downtown and more natural lighting than any salon I’ve ever seen. I don’t even think they had lights on while I was there. This place is truly a gem!
*FYI, they don’t accept walk ins, it’s appointment only and CASH ONLY… no credit cards accepted but I think they’re working on that…

Shapes Studios is a darling spacious and bright salon! Tucked upstairs on the 4^th Floor of the Historic Phelan Building Downtown SF, it could be difficult to spot with the Naked Eye. But once you’ve discovered this ‘gem’ you will never forget.
My appointment was with Aurora, many of you remember I wrote about Ms. Aurora many moons ago, she is my amazing hairstylist in SF. I’ve just moved back to The Bay from L.A. and was excited to transform my hair to match this recent change in my life.
I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to sit in Aurora’s chair again, she’s very passionate about what she does, making you feel special and making your hair look beautiful. «We decided» to throw some color in it this time, it’s been two years or a little longer since I’ve colored my hair, and it turned out perfect. Aurora chose what was best for me, based on a couple of pictures I brought in.
I also had the pleasure of sitting and chatting with Tereza for a little while and she is one incredible woman!
MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WHEN YOU HAVE TIME… YOU WILL BE HAPPY YOU DID =)

I have been going to shapes for at least 8 years and always get complements on my hair — coloring and cut. The studio has tons of light and a great energy. I can’t imagine going to anyone but Tereza.

Love, love, love Tereza. I walked in again after being gone for 18 years and she did my hair color perfectly. I mean incredible. She even made my current cut look freshly cut (I only went in for color). She was my hairstylist before. I would return to her if I lived in the City again.
Taking BART Powell exit is super easy, too. I thoroughly enjoy the peaceful ambiance. I come out emotionally, mentally, and sometimes spiritually replenished — besides looking fabulous!

I have been getting my hair cut by Tereza since I was about eleven years old. She is my parents neighbor. Let me tell you. .. if you have big curly hair, this is the woman for you. The studio is relaxing and friendly. The staff will offer you tea or water while you wait and you will never mind waiting. Tereza is the owner of the studio, but she rents the other chairs out to other stylists. You will never leave unhappy with your hair, and in the off chance that you do she always offers to fix what ever your complaint is for free after you have worn your new do for a day or two. I have never reconsidered my hair after a visit to her. She truly understands the movement of hair and the personalities that all types of hair have. She will always dedicate at the very least an hour to a client and really pampers you in that hour. I highly recommend this place if you are currently looking for a new stylist and of course if you have big hair.

I just had my first visit to Dara about a couple of weeks ago. I had an appointment for a cut after work, and I arrived at the hair salon totally stressed out from the workday. I walked into the salon and was amazed how beautiful it is (quite a contrast from the rest of the building). Although Dara kept me waiting for a while, she offered me hot tea and I wound up using the time to just decompress.
When I finally got in the chair, Dara listened attentively while I explained what kind of changes I wanted to make in my style. We commiserated about triangle-​hair and she suggested we add some layers. While she washed my hair she gave me an AMAZING head massage that lasted quite a while. Then she started snipping, and she wound up working on my hair for about 45 mintues to an hour! I was so impressed with my haircut that I vowed never to get my hair done by anyone else. I highly recommend her if you have some time to spend pampering yourself.
