Had a bad experience there today. Was standing out in the drizzling rain at 9:02am (opening time 9:00am) waiting for it to open while the clerk lazily booted up his register and other stuff inside (clearly seeing that there were a couple of people waiting). Then at 9:04 am he came to the front and said «few more minutes». And he was moving slowly. Poor customer service.

Visited Radio Shack on Irving St. @ 9^th Ave recently to purchase USB cords and a power bar to keep my devices charged. I selected my items and approached the counter with my Radio Shack Gift Card. I was and am pretty sure there’s enough $$ on the Radio Shack Gift Card to purchase the items I needed.
I approach the young man at the counter, present my items and show him my gift card, with the inquiry as to how much is left on the balance of the card. He states that due to the restructuring he doesn’t know whether Radio Shack Gift Cards are being honored, and cannot provide information such as the Radio Shack Gift Card Balance (which, having studied bankruptcy in law school I understand — the assets may be frozen).
OKayyyyy.
But then he states there’s an 800 # I can call to find out whether or not gift cards are being honored and asks whether I would like to call that 800 #.
UM NO. Here are the facts:
It wasn’t busy when I was there.
The company’s restructuring has been in the news for months now.
You work there.
This isn’t the first time a customer has asked this question.
So from my POV, it is reasonable to expect that YOU, the person who works here, would take a moment to gather a tiny bit of information — if there IS information out there — so that you can inform customers about something that they likely ask about at least once a month, if not once a week.
If it’s so easy to find out whether the RS Gift Cards are being honored or not, then YOU call.
At the very least I think you’d be curious! But no.

As many have noted over the years, the manager of this store is alternatively mean, stubborn, or blind to customers. I went in today to buy headphones and a rechargeable battery. Waiting by the cash register for 10 min while she idly chatted with a friend about his dead battery. She refused to acknowledge my presence. I went back home and ordered the stuff online.

Last week I visited this store and bought a «Variety Pack» of 24 batteries. The package contained a coupon for $ 10 off a purchase over $ 30. I went back today to use this coupon, and was told by the clerk, Anthony, that it was expired and would not be honored. I pointed out that I had just gotten it, and furthermore that there was still a display on the battery pack on the shelf, and that each package presumably contained an expired coupon, so maybe there should be a sign or something? He replied that it was OK, as the coupon was not a «main sales point» for the product. At no time did he even pretend to be remotely interested in the matter. This experience perfectly encapsulates my shopping history with RadioShack, and I guess I will never shop there again, at least at that store. To bad, it’s convenient for me.

If I can give this store zero stars, it would be more appropriate. They have handled my transactions and contract very poorly. I have recently purchased 2 iPhone 6’s there and signed up for the edge plan with this store. Since then, Verizon has been charging me for a completely different, incorrect plan. When I called Verizon, they are sending me back to the store alleging that the store has not sent them correct information. When I tried calling the store, the store sent me back to Verizon. They are telling me that they cannot help — that it is me who have to call Verizon and elevate the issue through Verizon’s customer support. The store is completely hands off and are unwilling to do anything to help. I am at such a loss. This is a huge mess.

Visited the Apple Store and they ran a diagnostic on my phone and confirmed that Radio Shack/​Anthony did NOT install a new battery in my phone. $ 54 flushed down the toilet.

Anthony fixed my water damaged phone saving me hundreds of dollars. He is THE MAN and is a stellar example for employees everywhere. HIGHLY recommend the iPhone repair service. Thank you again Anthony!!!

Overall, the radio shack facelift is pretty good. It’s a much nicer looking store, with some vet viable low cost options for tech toys, along with decent name brand items. Picked up a Plantronics Bluetooth headset for myself, but was happy to see a number of budget options (one for less than $ 10). Service was «meh». Hard to get their attention, but the folks behind the counter were relatively knowledgable and pleasant.

The Radio Shack on Irving Street has no customer service skills at all. I walked into this store because my MP3 player stopped working. I asked if they knew how to reset it, re-​boot it, recharge it, etc.
The salesperson didn’t want to touch the player at all.
The salesperson with the scraggly beard said they had no cable. I already had the cable for the MP3 player but he said they had no cord to plug into an outlet — in radio shack they had no cord to plug into an outlet? Maybe they should get some. I’m not the only customer that will need one.

I bought my IPhone 5S here.
I know the whole Apple Store experience is what’s up and there’s something exciting about getting that slightly see-​through drawstring bag with your Apple purchase — but I have a special affection for this RadioShack.
Most RadioShacks in the city usually always have IPhones in stock (not many people are aware of this) and the staff that helped me here — were so personable, genuine and kind. The main gentleman assisting me– even drove his own car to a different location — so he could pick up my phone for me — so I could have it that day. Customer service and then some!
The two staff members that were working while I purchased my IPhone — went above and beyond to answer any questions that I had in regards to the phone and they both had a slew of great suggestions on how I could maximize my experience with my it.
I love the idea that I can pop in here whenever I have an issue or question with my phone and I can get some very real answers without a long wait. I still have love for Apple and will use them for most of my phone related questions — but this RadioShack gets four stars for their on point staff.

I’ve been to several shacks around the city and this is by far the worst one. I had a horrible experience with the female manager here who is rude and lazy. Wouldnt even do a few price checks and call around to other stores for stock check. Just told me she is busy with several customers and told me to do it on my own.
Had another horrible experience here with a guy manager. Was trying to buy a few phones for some friends coming overseas and immediately he accused me of being a dealer and wont sell me the phones. I have friends who carries mutiple phones on them all the time. Even my kids have mutiple phones in case one breaks or fails. Other shacks in the city are a lot better and friendly. If I wasnt eating dinner around the area I wouldnt even have came here but after this I for sure will never come here again.

First of all I have nothing against the people who work here — they have actually been pretty helpful. This is just a rant against Radio Shack in general.
Dear Radio Shack,
I have no idea how you stay in business. I’ve been to this store about 5 times since it’s right around the corner from me to try and purchase cell phone accessories for my galaxy S3. Today I simply wanted a cheap charger (left mine at the office) and a backup battery for travel. Every single time I’ve walked away with nothing. How utterly inconvenient.
If your store has ‘shack’ in the name it would seem to imply affordability but you should really call this place Extortion Palace. You had no battery option for under $ 50 bucks. You wanted to charge me $ 18 just for a charging cable alone (not a full charger). Ridiculous — I might as well set my cash on fire which would at least have some entertainment value. I’m not even going to get into cases and headphones — I’ve also shopped for those and walked out pretty quickly. Good luck relying on clueless shoppers to support your shoddy business when they can easily spend a few minutes on google to find something better for half the price. I’m doing that right now — mission accomplished. Thanks for nothing Radio Shack.

Poor customer service. I went to get a clock radio. There were only 2 left, both boxes were open, checked the packaging to discover both had been open and used, not sure if they were returns. I spoke to the manager to see if there were any unopened, in used clocks. She did not check. She said, I can return it in 30 days if not satisfied. I could tell she did not want to deal with me nor any of the other customers. This was the third time I’m been to this store. Same manager. It’s seems like her main purpose in not to the customer but to train her new employees. The tone in her voice is monotone as if she does not care. I could be wrong, it might just be a culture difference. The last couple customers before me didn’t receive the help they needed either. The manager need to improve her customer service skills, otherwise, I don’t think she’ll make it any further in her career path at radio shack.

RADIO Shack? We should start calling this place LOVE Shack, because that’s what I felt when I received the amazing customer service we got from Nay, Jonathon, and Alex (honestly I can’t remember the last representatives’ name but he was awesome too). They helped me find a phone, explained the contact, then helped me master my dance floor moves. Seriously, if you want help getting your funk on, then go to this Radio Shack and ask for Nay because he’ll drop it like a hot plate.

HORRIBLE!!! This is regarding NINA. She should be fired!!! YES, FIRED … treat customer like criminal, RUDE.
I need a 8 mm Tape cleaner so I drop by Radio shack. I was worried if the product is working or not (Hey, let’s face it RS product is not the best quality. the product worked sometimes and sometimes it failed) so I ask them what if it doesn’t work… (I was at San Leandro that time) and can I try it and return in other store? The San Leandro is guy is nice and he said no problem any store as long as I got the receipt. Fine! bought it and try it at home… for some reason that the camcorder doesn’t like the cleaner and keep on ejecting it. (probably the camcorder has the sensor detecting how many mins tape left. but this is cleaner and has no tape for sensor. maybe that’s why??) so after try it 10 or 12 times I give up. I decide it defective and time to get a refund.
today I am visiting relatives at SF so I drop by Radio Shack at Irving… I tried to return the product with receipt. You know what .NINA started to accuse me of using the product and returning it, she said the cleaner is dirty… they can’t sale to others. DUD! of course you have to put it into the camcorder and try it… of course it will get dirty… I said it is defective (actually should be design issue. I have PHD in EE so I know what I talking about)… OK fine… she said will get me another one, so I asked what if the second one doesn’t work… she started to yell at me that I have NEGATIVE MENTALITY and so on so on… What THE??? YELL at the customer and accusing me at the same time… This is unreal…
DON’T go to that STORE… NINA SUCKS… just like Jemiel N.‘s review that SHE SUCKS BIG time…
Meanwhile I called the San Leandro store and they it should be OK and I should get refund… whatevery I will drop by that store and see what happened.

This regards store manager Nini (They would not tell me her last name) who I found to be exceedingly rude during a recent visit:
I purchased new audio equipment online and needed stereo wiring. I went to radio shack to purchase the wiring, bringing with me the manual and picture diagram of the receiver and camera pictures of the receiver and speakers in order to simplify the process. Instead of recommending simple stereo wire, Nina recommends stereo wire with CA jacks which was more expensive. Then she pressured me to get the 99cent warranty, and even made fun of me to the other employee for not purchasing the warranty. When I tried to ask her more questions at this point, she told me that they were closing and that I needed to leave, even though it was 8:50 and the store is not supposed to close until 9.
After all of this, it turns out that the expensive wiring that they sold me did not work with my equipment, and I had to return it. In short, it was basically the most rude, discourteous customer service I had ever seen. In fact, I am so shocked that I am writing my first Unilocal review based on this experience. Nini should not be a role model to the employees at that radio shack.

I bought my husband Apple TV for his birthday, purchased it from Best Buy and asked the salesman three times if there was anything, ANYTHING extra I needed to purchase to make the magical black rectangle work, batteries? cords? potions? He assured me that everything was in the box.
Well.
Upon ripping off the wrapping paper we discovered that BEST BUY MAN WAS WRONG, and we need some strange random cord. I ran to radio shack and the guy working was AMAZING. Not only did he pull the correct cord for me, he also pulled out a diagram of how the back of my TV looked and circled the correct spots to plug it into. He also gave me a plan B – explaining an alternate set up that my TV might have and exactly how to deal with that. Plus, he was nice!
In case SOMEONE WANTS TO GIVE THIS MAN A RAISE, I was in 8÷8÷11 at about 7 pm

I’m giving this Radio Shack 4 stars because they were good with their return policy.
I don’t usually shop at Radio Shack but it was close by, I was lazy and I needed to pick up a Cat-​5 cable to hook up my computer. I purchased a 50ft cable that came out to be about $ 41.
So at home, I thought to myself… Hmm that was pretty darn expensive. Then I pulled out the wire and noticed that it was way shorter than 50ft. WTF, this looks like 25ft!
Anyways, this stroke of bad luck came out aces for me because I decided to check on prices for cables. Snap! I can get a 100ft cable for only $ 20 elsewhere.
I went back to Radio Shack, but the guy who rang up my purchase went home for the day. The person working at the time wouldn’t give me a refund and asked for me to come back… Uh oh… getting a little worried.
But I came back today and had no problems with getting the refund.
Lesson learned. Don’t be lazy, do your homework and check your merchandise.

Radio Shack store are pretty uniform and standard. This location is like the rest and contains a good variety of products that you might need or its at least a great place to waste time when you are out wondering and have an itch to satisfy your tech-​geek side.
Service was fast and friendly, yet professional and courteous. A refreshing change from the other stores I had been unfortunately visiting.

Growing up, I never thought too highly of Radio Shack. Maybe it was because of the not too sexy logo or packaging or very plain storefronts. Fast forward two decades and my recent experience at Radio Shack is doing nothing to change my feelings.
I went in to inquire about purchasing and adding an Apple iPhone to my existing plan and wanted to know the fiscal impact. The salesperson told me he would not know how it would affect my monthly cost until after I purchased it. I looked at the guy and wanted to say something to the effect of «No duh» but withheld my constructive comments. Obviously, I would know the impact on my cost immediately AFTER I purchase the item, because I would hopefully see everything on my receipt and/​or plan and have to pay for it.
In other words, do not go to Radio Shack looking for answers.
