I first saw Dr. Jung 10 months ago for a renewed contact lens prescription and glasses prescription. My prescriptions hadn’t changed more than +/-0.25 over the last several years. He was very courteous and funny. However, he disagreed with my glasses prescription and gave me the same prescription as my contacts — although 3 previous doctors had for years given a stronger prescription in both eyes for my glasses. I saved up for new frames and my new glasses arrived last week. I could barely see beyond 15 feet and I didn’t feel safe driving while wearing them. My old pair of glasses, which were breaking from age and use, were comparatively much better. I went in to see Dr. Jung to have my prescription fixed. He let me know how grateful I should be since he squeezed me into his busy schedule. His staff even tried to charge me a co-pay. It turns out my prescription was off –0.75 in one eye and –0.50 in the other. I couldn’t even read the top line with my left eye during the exam. He blamed me several times for this and even asked if I was reading more and remarked how much my prescription changed since the last meeting. However, my contacts haven’t changed and the corrected prescription he gave me was the same as the prescription I had from my previous three doctors spanning several years. This has cost me time and money — since I have to pay to get the lenses replaced — two things I have very little of as a UCSF student. They teach us to acknowledge when things don’t go right for our patients and apologize when we’ve made a mistake. Dr. Jung did neither. If it hadn’t been for this problem, I’d give him 4 or 5 stars. .. I even get that mistakes happen, but his response lacked empathy and was unprofessional.

Dr. Jung and the front desk staff are very nice. Dr. Jung answers all your questions and is knowledgeable. He is upfront about costs, which I found to be reasonable(I pay out of pocket for eye care). Have seen him twice for annual appointments.

Dr. Jung is a friendly guy. Any question I had regarding my eyes, getting fit for comfortable contact lenses, or laser eye surgery, he had a good, complete answer and explanation. He even explained to me the difference between outdoor and indoor glasses when I asked for a prescription for glasses. I respect any doctor who goes out of their way to answer their patient’s questions in a genuine way.

I liked Dr. Jung a ton. I have terrible eyes, so if you’re looking for an eye doctor who makes you feel comfortable and doesn’t jab you with all sorts of weird things… 1) No «air puff» in the eye. So maybe I’ve been going to him for too long and it’s not standard practice anymore, but I hate that thing. 2) Maybe I’m not the smartest person on earth… or I just don’t understand how my insurance company bills and charges for things.(How many contacts do I get? Is coverage for a 12-month period or calendar year?) But Dr. Jung is great because he actually looks at my medical coverage and figures out how much stuff my health insurance covers… and whether I want to pay out of pocket for other stuff. With other doctors, I feel like I walk out of the doctor’s office having spent a few hundred dollars on things I didn’t even know I would have to pay for… 3) He’s just a really nice, easy-going on. And as far as doctors go, fairly quick and punctual.
