I love this Safeway! Plus, right down the street is one of the best views of San Francisco that you’ll ever see. Come here at night and you’ll see what i mean ^^v

I’ve been shopping here for years because it is convenient
However both the food quality and service have gone way down. They have very little wild caught sea food
Some of the cashiers have trouble recognizing the produce and entering the correct codes
The check out lines are usually long

This store used to be my favorite Safeway. Ever since Safeway merged with Albertsons it has become bad. Here are several complaints I have:
1) The deli dept. employs people that can hardly speak English. If they speak English, they are hardly understandable.
2) There are never enough cashiers. I had a cashier this evening by the name of Richie and he was entertained by his friend. Cashiers should not be paying attention to their friends while they are handling money and serving customers.
3) The meat and fish dept. are awful now. Safeway used to have very good meat.
4) I must say that I used to save lots of money using the Just4U option on the website. I have been looking for items that I can use and lately I have found 0.
My husband and I decided that we would probably just use this Safeway for products like toilet paper and other necessities. We will try to go to another grocery store because as of tonight, this one really sucked.

I love the safeway diamond height but for one reason mainly. Maria in bakery is awesome! she went above and beyond to help me in the bakery. I come here very often and i am always happy to see her smile and working so hard. I always see her working and doing her best. Her customer service is on point. Ive gotten help by other people before but they seem to lack customer service. Its people like maria that should be recognized by the company. you do not get customer service like hers anymore. Hope safeway takes care of their employees and not lose good people like her. as long as she is here i will keep bringing my business back.

This Safeway would be awesome if I could actually find what I was looking for. It took me half an hour to find ginger beer, alka seltzer, and black eyed peas. Please update the signs. None of them list where medications are located. On top of that, two of the employees sent me to the wrong aisle.
I suggest training the staff on better customer service. When a patron is looking for an item, walk them over to it instead of pointing them in the direction. It only take a minute. These little things will go a long way with making customers happy.
Also the only ginger beer they had was diet. Please keep up with the ordering, especially around the holidays when people are purchasing more liquor, wine, and mixers. Those items should be easy to find.

— reason lose 2 stars because at customer service counter SUPER SUPER SLOW and inexperienced employees… waiting 20 minutes. In last month been 2 different employees at customer service counter they are NOT TRAINED to handle the many issues and problems.

Within a two minute span literally l 10 cars have pulled up into the empty parking lot l because these idiots can’t update the hours on their phone system for the holidays.
**This Safeway sucks beyond measure**
I talked to the guy in the convenient store at the corner and they’d even called Safeway earlier this week to see their hours. He was told ‘oh not sure but we’ll be open at some point over the day’ so they didn’t stock up on milk and basic items that people would inevitably come to them for if Safeway were to be closed.
I’m all for employees taking a break on Christmas Day but FFS it’s 2015 post your goddamn holiday hours online and update the phone system. Your phone system even says to hit 1 for holiday hours… before informing everyone you’re open til 7 today. EXCEPT that on the door it’s physically posted that you’re closed on Christmas Day.

This is one of my go-​to Safeways — whenever I need to make a post office run or have a large amount of staples to purchase, I’ll head up the hill to this location
Not as close as other Safeways but it seems safer when I know I’ll have lots of bags coming out w/​me
Vegetarian selection is only okay — they have some Amy’s & a variety of boca & morning star burger products so that part is nice. Whole Paycheck, of course, has the better selection but you’re going to pay for that
Produce here is decent. I’ve found decent fruit & also slimy greens so just need to be sure to inspect before you place it in the cart
Bakery is okay but I never indulge in anything except for their artisan breads & they’re okay when I don’t see Semifreddies
So w/​lots of usage of the word «okay», have to say yeah, this place rates as A-​OK by me

Don’t come here if you’re in a hurry. Consistently long lines to check out. There are 8 carts waiting in my line. Same situation at the other 3 checkout lines that are open. Lanes 1 – 7 are unmanned. Why aren’t there Self Checkouts like other Safeways? Mollie Stone’s, just up the street but a bit more expensive, might be a better supermarket for me.

As far as grocery stores go, this place is a mismanaged joke of an operation. The lines are long and slow for most of the day. Occasionally one will get lucky and find a short line, but it’s mostly an exercise in patience. Once in a while you’ll find yourself in line with someone who is genuinely angry for waiting so long, and it can get uncomfortable when they start talking to themselves and using F bombs. I’ve only seen that happen at this particular Safeway. I’ll admit, I’ve shopped here many many times, but it’s mostly out of necessity and not choice. Also, have fun with the incompetent idiots driving around in their packed parking lot when it’s busy.

This Safeway is great!
Except for the perpetually long lines at all hours of the day, poor to rude customer service, the failing health department grades in their deli and the EXPIRED FOOD they keep on their shelves.
My wife and I have been coming here since we moved to the area in February and on numerous occasions we’ve seen expired items. Not just one, whole shelves of them and things like milk, dairy, bread, meat. Things that can genuinely kill someone or make them very sick.
Several times now, we brought the items to the manager or customer service only to be given a patronizing «thank you» and see them put the items BACK ON THE SHELF AGAIN.
Just yesterday, we found a whole row of expired yogurt including one specific item my wife had brought to the manager before. It’s pretty common to find milk that’s only just expired at this store, but I frankly amazed and angry when I see yogurt that expired in May still sitting on the shelf I. July.
This is without a doubt the most mismanaged and terrible grocery store I’ve ever seen. I’ve complained to Safeway corporate and reported them to the health department.

This review is about the customer service representative (in person). I didn’t get her name but she has a Russian/​East European accent.
As I was checking out with my groceries my debit card was scratched prior to my safeway purchase. The cashier directed me to go to customer services where I would have to figure out a way I can pay for my groceries.
Understandable and went according to directions. I came to the woman with the Russian accent and she was extremely rude. My check didn’t go through because I used my wrong i.d. card. Instead of her letting me use my alternative card, she told me to go wait in line until I figured out my situation and stop holding up the line. Apparently other customers have more value than I did.
She was very condescending and she had the freaking nerve to say this to the next person in line, «Hello, do YOU have money?» I called my bank immediately and they said I had no problems and it was the customers representative’s mistake.
I asked for the manager and the manager quickly finished my transaction in less than a minute and I got my groceries back. This whole ordeal took about 30 mins because the lady with the East European accent had no patience and the worst attitude.

This place is always packed, but it’s the nicest Safeway near me. I’ll skip the Mission Safeway and drive the extra mile to the D.H. location 99 times out of 100.
The staff are friendly and the aisles seem wide enough. As with any grocery store in the city, people are everywhere you turn, so be careful going around the corner to the next aisle because not everyone looks ahead.
Would give 5 stars if this Safeway had the old Brach’s candy display bins or a pharmacy.

This is the cleanest Safeway I’ve ever been to. The people who work there are top notch and since I go there all the time, we always say hi to each other. The produce is always fresh.

This place is f ing terrible. You can really tell how much of a captive audience they think they have by the level of service. Take a short ride down to the Castro Safeway & you’ll have a vastly different experience. Checker to customer ratio is much better in the Castro & morale seems much higher. Fewer checkers moving about as fast as maple syrup fresh out of the freezer & just plain unfriendly.
Thankfully we have the little Mexican places for produce & guerra’s for meats.
Btw the little Mediterranean market a block down from guerra’s has very solid produce & some interesting breads.
Still miss lunardi’s 5 years later.

I live on the south side of Noe Valley, so I can either go to the Safeway in Mission/​Bernal Height area, or this one on Diamond Height. Most of the time I would choose this one, mostly because both the customers and staff are nicer.
As a Safeway store, this location serves its purpose. But two problems:
1. Lack of cashiers/​staff. The shopping demand in this location is apparently much higher than the staff needed to serve the shoppers. Lines can get super long. Even for the «Less than 15 items» lines could be very long too. And this is not only limited to peak hours.
2. Lack of self checkout lines. This is actually sort of related to problem 1 above. I am not sure why this store does not have self checkout lines. The one in Sunset I sometimes go to (on Noriega) has that, and it is much more efficient over there.
I mean, I’m pretty much stuck with this store location if I need to go to a Safeway from home. But there are more competitions nowadays for grocery stores (e.g. Wholefoods) and I think quality of services would definitely be an area of focus in order to attract more customers in the future.

To update the «Ugly» part of my review… There is something wrong with the scheduling at this store. It used to be that there were long lines occasionally. Now almost every time I go in the lines wind down the aisles. I’m not talking peak times, I’m talking ALL THE TIME.
Also watch out for moldy produce. Their stuff goes bad FAST.

Crappy employees.
The female heavy set latina stocker blocked the aisle with two carts and had earphones in.
And didn’t move them when I notified her.
Marcel, the Ricky Martin wannabe lookalike is a douche. He rings me up and starts talking to a black female security which is rude and lacks basic customer service skills. He also forgets to give me my receipt and when I return for it, he has the audacity to say I left too fast. The grocery was bagged and never had this problem with him before. What flamboyant sucker.

Like most, my life is bland and full of the same predictable day in, day out. That’s why I love shopping at this supermarket. Every time it’s like shopping roulette! I never know what they’re going to be out of! Need your brand toilet paper? Not this time! How about your favorite orang juice? Please come again! I feel like Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap with each trip!
I also used to find myself anxious and frustrated, trying constantly to figure out what to do with all my spare time. Not anymore! Thankfully, at any given moment only ¹⁄₃ of the checkout lines are open. This guarantees plenty of time spent shifting from left foot to right foot action. Thanks Safeway!

They FLUNKED their health department inspection! Stay away. Score of 66
Don’t buy anything they can touch with their dirty unwashed hands!
