I live around the corner and hit this place every so often. The food is mediocre and the service is not friendly at all. They still can’t decide if they want you to order at the register or table. The guys working there always look so angry. I think the fellow Unilocalers comment about ex-cons is funny… A small group of us went in shortly after 7 the other morning. We asked for a coffee while we decide what to eat, Angry Man give a heavy sigh like its a crazy request. We then ask a basic food question when he informs us that the cook won’t be in until after 7:30. We had no desire to wait 25 minutes just for the cook and left.

Pretty great for lunch. They usually have something delicious on the menu. I find myself more interested in their specials. I only wish they had a website to list their specials, would make it a lot easier. Normally, I would only give this place four stars, but the fifth star is because they have pretty great customer service. Even if they don’t have something on the menu, if it’s simple and they have the ingredients, they’ll make it for you.

in search of the perfect burger it seems with this string of reviews haha food wise this place is great if you are in the area, feel inside is super trendy coffee shop with bar you can eat at small modern sofa and loveseats in front, dark hardwood floors, chalkboard on the walls and front with the days specials I was able to sample there special for the day which was two patties with mushrooms and swiss with ciabatta type roll. the meat to bun ratio was good, and the juiciness of the burgers did not over saturate the bun which is a definite plus. side of steak fries was also a plus the sage burger came with bacon, bleu cheese was just ok nothing special. the roasted loin sandwich was juicy a lil small but due to the taste I give this sandwich better then average grade food **** burger of the day which includes two patties is a must try if offered, the pork loin sandwich was decent size wise it is not much but taste makes up for it, the sage burger ehhh was not so memorable. price $$ service **** very friendly staff ambiance **** snazzy, upscale diner all updated type furniture

G’damm this place is relaxing! Annoyed from«The Window» across the street not having the pork belly burgers I was looking for stopped in here as a Plan B. There’s tables al fresco but instead went inside where there was a coffee shop type of feel with people on their laptops all quiet. Smooth jazz streamed over the clean and modern interior. The service was friendly and attentive and get this, their tap water has cucumbers in it. Am I like at the spa? There’s healthy options like salad but instead tried their daily specials. — Burger of the day($ 10) — Two pretty juicy, beefy. and manly patties with mushrooms and swiss topped with a demi on a fresh ciabatta like roll. It came with steak fries that were fluffy and well seasoned. Good!( ) — Roasted Pork loin sandwich —($ 10) Delicious and juicy it was like a poor man’s Roli Roti porchetta. The pork was tender but was missing all the herbage flavor like the RR version.( ) — Their sage burger($ 9) with bacon and bleu was just ok compared to the other two. Overall, for lunch it was a welcome refuge from a hectic work day. Lots of natural light, a chill and relaxed atmosphere, and no hipsters in sight made it different from the typical SOMA profile.( )

This place has so much potential. Great set up, comfortable design, good coffee and fast wi-fi. But they set themselves back with awkward, tough guy service. The service is really strange. I feel like I am being served by parolees. Tough, un-smiling, and not service oriented dudes approach sluggishly, take your order and fulfill it. My oatmeal came out fast but without the cranberries on the menu. Nothing was mentioned. I didn’t say anything either. I ate in silence. But the oatmeal and the coffee and the wi-fi are good. So I’m probably going to try again. Beware, parking is abundant if you will take a meter but unmetered so unavailable I thought about leaving.

We Stopped in for a late breakfast. The inside décor was a very modern clean look and we were greeted promptly by friendly waitstaff. The menu was simple and had a little something for everyone. I ordered the breakfast burrito and my mother the salmon hash. The waitress was always available when needed and kept the coffee and water supply up. Breakfast was delivered pretty quick and I was not disappointed at all in my burrito. The salmon was delicious and not a standard diner like breakfast. Cooked well and not over salted, has a great combination of ingredients. If I am ever in the area I will make a return visit.

Sage now trying to force table service on patrons. You walk up to the counter, they ask if you’re eating here, you say«yes,» they tell you to go sit down and they’ll come take your order. Then 7 people in line behind you place to-go orders while you sit and wait. Neat. I have no problem with the wait staff wanting to make more tips, but honestly, they can barely handle the order-at-the-counter situation as it is – they’re nice and well-intentioned but often bumbling and distracted. Trying to step up to table service is the worst idea possible, and it’s making Sage less pleasant.

(See pic) Review #1032. More of 3.5 stars. The Smoked Salmon Hash was quite deliciously flavorful with lots of warm beets, capers, roasted potatoes, 2 very good poached eggs, and crème fraîche. The food was really 3.6 stars, the decoration was really nice and the service was very friendly. However, the wait fro the food was just too long. The table next to us had 3 people and their orders came in reasonable amount of time. We ordered about some minutes later but ended up waiting for about 25 – 30 minutes. So come when you have more than leisure time. The food selection was quite varied and eclectic, from assorted breakfast items(hummus, crepes, bagel, fruit parfait), to burgers, sandiwiches, soup and a bar. The place is very modern with leather seats and on the side it feels more like a lounge AND coffee shop style with some leather sofas. They also have an outside seating. A relaxing place but you can also see there were quite some business lunches going on here. They have a loft where it can accommodate a large party(probably about 15 people.) Something to consider if they can improve on the cooking time.

This place might look nice from the outside, and the same goes for the inside, but as for the food it’s not nice. I have ordered the simplist meal in the world, and yet it is nothing great, nothing even good. Both times the burger has come over cooked, and is haf the size of the bun. The fries are frozen, and i reconze them becasue i have bought the same ones before. As for my salad it is store bought lettuce, and dressing. I can taste the Costco! The staff is friends, but there are to many of them 6 for the size of a starbucks it doesn’t make sense. I would recomend skipping lunch, and eating a big dinner when you go home. Sage Lounge, Sage 1601 whatever you call it is nothing more than a good looking fruit only to take a bite, and find out it’s rotten.

I went here for a late lunch today while I was getting some work done on my car at a nearby mechanic. As other reviewers have noted, the service was excellent; they’re super friendly. I had the Korean BBQ beef sandwich which came with big thick cut fries, and a beer. It was heavy and greasy, but pretty tasty. I would definitely go back and try some of the other things on the menu and also just for the service, they were so pleasant.

Our server was a bit ditzy, but very nice. Our food was pretty scrumptious. I think that this place would be better if they took your orders at your table. When I went, I felt like I was at a fast food restaurant, ordering at the cash register, etc. Perhaps I misunderstood what I was supposed to do, but it didn’t match the rest of the restaurant’s ambience and motif. I ordered a tuna melt. I don’t usually like tuna, but figured since it wouldn’t be mixed with tons of mayo, it was worth a shot. I’m glad I tried it. I found it to be very delectable. I’d order it again, even. I went on a Saturday afternoon. I would like to see what this place is like in the evening. I’d think it would be a fairly chill hangout. The place looks very nice. I would go again.

late saturday lunch arrival and nearly two pm. peers already enjoying the $eleven bottomless mimosa on saturdays… seated at the bar… contemporary environment… bar, tables, lounge and various seating options… free wifi to linger. no time for bottomless and ordering $five glass of chardonnay first. wanting a small meal and finding on menu $four.fifty egg & sausage muffin sandwich with fruits… a perfect dainty meal… perfectly crusty outer shell muffin… requested over-easy egg for drip and dip… handsome sized sausage patty bitter than muffin… little garnish and having one of best breakfast sandwiches… complimentary side of fresh fruits and all for $four.fifty…finishing off glass of chardonnay…$nine.fifty total… no tax… even better!

We were purchasing a vehicle at BMW of SF when our Sales Rep., Richie recommended the restaurant to us. The place was amazing. Greeted us right away and told us about the special. We ended up ordering Cheeseburgers with fries, Cobb salad and Blue Moon. The bill come out to be $ 33.00. Well worth it. Everything was really good. Our waiter was Greg. He was super friendly and what great service. My water glass was never empty. Can’t wait to come back here.

Their space is not efficiently utilized, there are only a few small tables(that are very close together) and 1 sofa set. We came in a group of 3 during lunch time and need to sit outside to accomodate our group size, since all but one table are 2 seaters. Aside from some space issues, the food is actually pretty good. We got a tuna sandwich, a beef burger, and a cobb salad. My friends totally enjoy their sandwich and burger. The burger looks extremely good, the fries they gave are pretty yummy also. The salad is a bit small and not very hardy, so I probably will order something else next time. They seem to try hard to get people in by offering a lot of vouchers etc. So make sure you got them before you come here :)

LIke Ted’s this place is right around for corner for me but ehh … It’s just well ehhh to me anyway … The décor is very cool, modern, Ikea kinda feel. service is friendly and well. yeah… The food is decent not great but the only problem is it takes a while to get you the food … and once it arrives its well. good but not anything special … With all that said I been here a handful of times … the oatmeal is my favorite dish, salads are ok to but they always seem to mess mine up forgetting this or that … but all is well …

I would have given them 4 stars because they used to have the best tomato soup that i’ve ever had. But alas. They stopped getting it in house. Their soup is still pretty fantastic, not to mention they’re one of the only non fastfood places to eat down in SOMA unless you’d like to travel to trader joes every day. They have pretty good panini’s. They’re not the cheapest, but it is a good clean atmosphere to get out of the rain.

SAGE is very chic and modern. It has excellent coffee, tons of parking, fun workers, and great eats. OMG, the twice baked potato is my favorite… must have. thank goodness this took over SOMA!!!
