Felt unwelcomed and rushed. This place got busy yesterday and while we were still eating the waitress kept coming and asking«is everything ok?» Onother word they were trying to kick us out to clear some area for a bigger party. My word of advice to this establishment is to treat paying customers equally and please stop asking that lame«is everything ok?»

Good sushi at a great price. Rachel is super nice and efficient. Great place for take-out as it can get busy during the dinner rush hours.

The sushi was ok, scale from 1 – 10(10 being the best) I would have to say it was a 3. The cuts were decent, but the quality was just not there. It could have been that the fish on the revolving boats could have been going around and around. I ordered off the menu after my first for or so pieces. And still the quality was low. Surprisingly the waitress was great! If it was not for that, I would have put it at 2. I don’t the we will be coming back to this place soon, lessons learned!

If you’re looking for cheap, decent quality sushi, Sakana Bune is the place to go. I’ve been coming here with my family since… high school and it hasn’t changed one bit. Never got a stomachache eating here! The pros: The ability to try a bunch of things! See something you like? Just grab it off the belt! The downside to rolls is that you’re usually limited to just a few and then each roll comes with 4 – 8 pieces of the same thing. Here, you just pick up a plate that has 2 pieces on it and if you want more, just pick up another one. Also, you can’t complain about the prices. The cheapest plate starts at around $ 1.75 and the most expensive isn’t more than $ 3.25(I think, don’t quote me on this). There’s nigiri, rolls(think Cali rolls and that sort of stuff), salads, grilled octopus, takoyaki, edamame, etc. The cons: While there’s usually a good variety of things going around, it’s always the same rolls. Recently they’ve put some new things out, but other than that it’s still all the same things since high school. You can order a la carte, but some of the stuff they have on the belt isn’t on the menu. Things that no one wants kind of just sits out there and goes around and around and around. Bottom line: Cheap sushi that won’t give you a stomachache. Why not?

I’ll just say right now… What the HELLPEOPLE? Putting perfectly good fish on some rickety undercooked/dry old rice! The sashimi were thickly sliced and good tasting, it deserves better than to be laid on a ball of shit rice. Have some pride, people! The fried octopus was chewy and there’s some weird plates like the reconstituted dried squid that tasted fishy, watery and yakkkk. I thought it was mushroom at first, that’s why I snatched it. Next to finally, there were those damn girl waitresses that stood around yapping, paying no mind to customer service. Initially when we came in and there was a short wait for bar seating, I had asked one of them bimbos where the restroom was and she just waved her hand in a general direction. I said Excuse You? She said Over there. Fucking rude. Unbelievable. Well, that ONE unisex restroom was occupied so I waited after the meal to use it… Boyyyy, I would’ve walked right the fuck out had I seen what awaited me… That nasty restroom was a moldy, graffitied mess that looks like it’s from some bad horror film. If I had my phone with me, it woulda been game over. No one will be able to stomach this place after seeing that damn restroom. GROSS. Anyway, the sushi boat concept is actually great when executed properly. These people are going at your wallet without presenting quality. Geary Street has got no shortage of great restaurants, so don’t go here. It’s Japanese cuisine done by the Chinese. Probably. Very probably.

Very cheap for sushi boat! Most of the dishes I got were $ 1.25-$ 2.25 and that was about it. Compared to other sushi boats, this was definitely was decent quality for a low price. I’m not very adventurous when it comes to sushi so most of the things I ordered were mainly different versions of California rolls. For example, I got a California roll which appeared to have a ton of spicy crab right on top of it. I got a dragon roll and some roll w/walnuts that was alright. Oh, I also got some edamame and tried this thing that tasted like a potato ball from Porto’s! It’s great that they had tons of options moving around the boat. They were constantly refilling the boats when there very few customers so some of the sushi which were prolly sitting there for a while didn’t seem too fresh. I’m not that picky though when it comes to sushi. If I’m hungry, I’ll eat it. If you don’t like anything they’re serving, they do offer rolls on their menu(you can ask for small portions to try just like on the sushi boat)! These will definitely be more fresh! We had about maybe 10 – 12 sushi plates and our total was about $ 28, not including tip. 3 ½ stars for this one! Wish they had more options though — they had nothing on their menu with baked salmon :’(

This place has always been childhood sushi boat spot in the city. I have seen the prices dramatically increase of the years but it all makes sense. Prices are still affordable compared to other restaurants. Something that i like about this specific sushi boat is that the sushi is consistently fresh and good. Applogize for not knowing the actual name of the rolls but Some dishes i like getting are the potato hash brown, walnut shrimp filled sushi room, seaweed salad filled roll, anything pretty much with raw salmon, spicy tuna and imitation crab. Somethings i ordered the entrée as well such as chicken/beef teriyaki rice plates or even the udon noodle soup. Theres usually small to no wait but when it does, you’ll be sat at the table instead of the sushi boat bar which is lameeeeeeeeeeeeee. Love it for variety, cute experience and the affordable price!

Sakana bune translates to fish boat in Japanese. This sushi boat experience is fun, cute, and cheap. The sushi isn’t out of this world, but it’s not at all bad. My friend and I have been here too many times to count now and we haven’t had even one bad time. Every experience was different though depending on where we were sat. When you arrive, put your name down on the wait list and check whether you prefer the bar, table, or no preference. We always go for the bar because that’s where the sushi boats are! You can also choose tables and order off of the menu(if you don’t like fun and cute boats bringing you food). The better experiences are when we get sat near the top of the U because we are able to grab the freshest plates! You can tell which plates have been sitting a while if they aren’t as shiny or wet looking(lol duh). But the chefs do notice dry or unpopular plates and replace them with something new(yes I have witnessed it myself!) also if you don’t see what you want, you can obvs still order it! Sushi boat plates range from $ 1.25-$ 4.25? No more than $ 5 for plates on boats. Appetizers and other menu items I’m unsure. Minimum $ 20 charge for cards. It’s on Geary so you know parking’s a b*tch. I usually hop out of car and put our names down while my friend parks. The wait for a seat at the bar can be upwards of 20 mins so it works out. We usually go on Friday or Saturday. If you’re turnin up on a weekday(daaang ok) then you have little to worry about.

This was such a great date spot — you walk right in, grab whatever you want from the passing boats of sushi… Yes, boats… And you and your date each get to try one, then grab another one next time you see it. If it was good. So fun. So much flavor and variety. Go here.

I love this place, have been coming her for years, as a young child and now later as an adult. Love the variety of sushi offered on the boats and also the rolls that you can order if you don’t see something you love. 4 Starts because sometimes when it is not busy the variety on the sushi boats does not change much, but I guess you have to come when it is busy but then you risk of waiting to be seated. The Staff is very friendly. Sushi is very affordable. Love the idea of boats and that you can get as many as you want depending on your hunger level. I would definitely recommend this place!

Fish quality is just okay, but for being relatively cheap and kaiten, I’ll keep it at 3. Their yellowtail nigiri rarely comes out, but it’s actually good. The rest of the seared/cooked fish sushi are pretty bland or tough, and the maguro is grocery store quality. Staff is very nice, though, and there are other random plates on the kaiten like gyoza which keep it varied, but if you sit there longer than 30 minutes you will rarely see anything new.

This is my go to place when I’m craving the sushi boat experience. The last few times I came here was on a Friday night, and waited about 20−30ish minutes each time to get seated at the bar. I like watching the sushi items go around on the boats and getting to select whichever one I feel like eating. If there is something that you want that isn’t coming around on the boat you can always order it through a waitress.

This place was really really good couple years ago. Went there for lunch with my friend today. Not a big variety of foods. Thats okay — it was end if lunch time. But now I have diarrhea! Never had it before after sushi. Not clean place at all. Also waitress was unhappy with tip amount… What? Be happy what you got! She even went outside and asked what was the amount on check… Never be back again! Thanks for bi***y waitress

Okay sushi. It’s super cheap. Definitely better sushi boat places in the city. Not a lot of high quality stuff but good for a quick drop in for a cheap sushi meal. Stuff is mediocre at best but again at $ 1.50 to $ 3.00 a plate. You get to eat as much as you want. Good for lunch I guess. Don’t ever make this a first date.

This restaurant works on an awesome boat system. You sit on the Sushi Bar, grab the plate that you want, and then they compute your check by the dishes you have on your part of the counter. The cheapest is $ 1.5, the most expensive is $ 2.95. It is quite cheap and the food is really good. Staff is very polite. So, get inside the restaurant, write your name on the list to the right of the door, and wait for the wonderful feast.

Salmon, eel, shrimp, squid sushi, they’re under $ 3 per pair! I came here at least twice a month. I love how I feel informally at this place. There are a lot of Japanese sushi and sashimi on the boat, or you can ask the waitress for your menu also. The service is not perfect, but it’s acceptable. For the GREAT price, I give it 4 stars!

Yes, most of the sushi here are California rolls in disguise, but I’ll be damned if staring at a sushi carousel isn’t one of the most entertaining things you can do while eating. I’m also a big fan of the fact that they do put out nigiri and sashimi, usually in quite generous portions, all at very affordable prices. I’m not enough of an expert to critique freshness, but the salmon nigiri I had was absolutely delicious. A few fried things were rotating around, too, but they didn’t seem nearly as cost-effective to me as the sushi. I wish they took reservations, but oh well. Even though you may have to wait a while, I feel it’s worth it to come during peak hours — that’s when they put out the biggest variety of sushi/sashimi/nigiri! I know I’m definitely going to be back soon :)

This is the only sushi boat place I will consistently come to in SF. The price is reasonable. Its not super expensive but that quality of the fish isn’t top notch. I prefer this place because I can try pieces of different rolls instead of being stuck with just one. I’m not really sure how fresh the sushi is because it is sitting on the boat and you don’t know how long it’s been out. But I usually order the pieces I want and they’ll usually make it. Rachael is my favorite waitress. She’s super nice and always fills my water/tea without me having to ask. There are a few rolls you can’t order on the little plates, but she always makes an exception for me. She’s the homie(: Oh and this place has made me love oysters. LOL I’ve never liked any oyster until I tried it here. I guess they serve blue point oysters and they’re perfect. They arent too fishy and are pretty big. I’d recommend this place if you want to try a variety of different rolls without having to actually eat the whole roll!

Love going here! Where else can you find decent quality nigiris for less than $ 2?! Most of their plates are less than $ 2 in general though, so… that’s a winner in my book! Whenever I’m craving sushi, this is one of my favorite places to go! Fish always tastes fresh and tasty to me(I’m not a sushi snob connoisseur though)! Variety is limited, but there’s quite enough to satisfy my craving.(I find that it’s actually common for sushi boats to not have that great of a variety, so it’s not that big of a complaint there). Don’t forget — if you don’t see what you want on the conveyer belt, you can also just ask a waitress for them, and she’ll tell the chef to make ‘em! And if sitting in the sometimes-congested sushi boat isn’t your thing, you can also sit at the regular tables and order/grab from the boat, too. We have also ordered hot food(beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, tempura, etc) and my family loves it as well. I never had a problem with the service — they continue to refill your cup of tea, and if it’s really busy, you may have to flag them down. No biggie. Inexpensive, fun, quick, and delicious!
