Salon Macias

I received a cut from Carlos and I was hoping I found my new hairstylist in the bay area, from all the great reviews. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The salon is beautiful and the staff is professional and kind. But my haircut did not favor as well. I asked for a long a cut and got convinced into getting a shorter cut (I asked for 2 – 3 inches off and had over 7 inches taken off). I asked for long layers and texturing and to remove minimal amounts of hair and ended up with blunt cut cut with one layer that is now at my shoulder instead of half way down my back. I know new cuts take time to settle in so despite the shock of the new length I took a couple weeks to see if the cut grew out any better. I have been sorely disappointed, it looks worse now then it did then and my hair is up in a pony tail all the time. Carlos is a great person, with the most caring heart but not the best stylist I am sorry to say. So I will be going back to east coast to get the cut redone and will still be looking for a permanent hairstylist in the bay.

I couldn’t be more appreciative of my experience here. Alessandra gives the best facial in the city and even makes herself available to answer questions by text between appointments.
This is an amazing salon with great culture — so grateful to have it in the neighborhood!

Best haircut I have ever gotten! I would give 50 stars if I could! Carlos made me look like a new person, and really took time and studied my face before suggesting his ideas… He’s a genius! I wouldn’t go anywhere else… Ever. I can’t wait to go back in a couple weeks when I am due for my color! Perfection!

Long overdue review for Gretchen! I have been coming to Gretchen for 5 years. I found her when she worked at Veer & Wander salon and have been following her career since… I had a VERY unfortunate incident at another salon when I first moved to San Francisco and needed color correction in a bad way. She had glowing recommendations from her days as a colorist at Mercer Street Salon and had just moved to Veer & Wander. I immediately set an appointment! When we met, she consulted me the new coloring process, how it would perform, and how we could fix it over time. SHE IS LIKE A SCIENTIST FOR HAIR! She knows things on a molecular level: what the color will do based on your natural color, current color in your hair, and how it will look over time, etc. Time and time again, I could not be happier with the way Gretchen does my hair. I am continually being complemented on the color of my hair and how naturally flawless it looks. Note: I am a dark brunette, and I have highlights put in that are a slight color lighter– I have struggled in the past with others pulling out the natural red in my hair, but it ending up looking too «brassy.» Every time I leave, we both agree how, «yummy» my hair looks! Moreover, Gretchen is a wonderful, kind person who is great to chat with while you’re in her chair! She’s also an avid workout enthusiast who always has tons of workout and nutrition advice for me whenever I ask– BONUS… Salon Macias is a great salon with friendly service and happy staff. I am always greeted with a smile and some wine (or tea, coffee, water, sparkling). Other things to note is how clean and chic the layout is, and they always have new artists showcasing their work on their walls which makes for an all around comfortable and creative environment. Needless to say, they do not disappoint. If you are looking for an amazing colorist, Gretchen is your gal. Enjoy!

I’ve been to my share of salons/​estheticians in the Marina/​Cow Hollow and Alessandra at Salon Macias takes the cake. I’ve gone to her twice now for custom facials and already have my next appointment booked. She’s very professional and knowledge about skincare. She offers great advice but doesn’t pressure you to purchases services that you don’t need. Her facial isn’t just a feel-​good relaxing experience she also does a great job at extractions and picks the perfect masks for your skin issues. I’m picky about my facials and she’s the only one I’ve been willing to vouch for thus far :)

I was highly recommended to Flora by a family member. I was not disappointed at all. I have super thick curly and frizzy hair which not every stylist can handle. I came in for a over due haircut and keratin. Flora did a excellent job! She listen to what I had in mind but also made suggestion based on my hair. You can tell right away that she is a perfectionist, she definitely took her time specially with the keratin. She made sure every hair even the hardest to reach were nice and straight. In addition, She is extremely nice, professional and very easy to talk to. I was extremely happy and very impressed with her work.
Over all I had a great experience at Salon Macias. The salon is beautiful and the location is excellent! The staff is also super nice and they all say hi which you usually don’t see in high ends salons such as this one. I live in the east bay and my experience was definitely worth the trip! This review is long overdue. This place deserves 10 stars. I always walk out with a great cut from Rogelio. His attention to detail is fantastic. And be sure to get a facial from Alexandra before walking out. She is the best.

Gretchen Klise is terrific for color. I can especially speak to her talent for working with blonde hair. She works with me on a combination of color and highlights to always keep it looking fresh and natural. Amazingly there are still friends who don’t think that I color my hair (crazy, but true) — that is how great it looks. Gretchen is also realistic about upkeep, and really does work with her clients to achieve what you want each visit (e.g., making small tweaks like making it a notch brighter in summer, toned down a bit in winter, etc.). She is also so kind and calm. The hours spent in her chair are enjoyable and relaxed. And she clearly takes a lot of pride in sending her clients out into the world looking a little more fabulous. I couldn’t recommend her more highly.

I love everything about this salon! Every member of the staff is truly amazing, and so kind! I’ve been getting my hair done by Gretchen for almost 7 years. She is the most amazing colorist! She really listens to what you want, and takes the time to examine your hair and mix the perfect color to compliment your skin tone. She does amazing highlights and low lights, and has found ways for me to keep my color looking good but at a really affordable price! She also does Keratin treatments on my hair and I SWEAR by them. I have naturally frizzy hair (a mixture of curly and straight) so I get Keratin treatments once every 6 months. My hair is so silky and manageable, and I can wash it as soon as the treatment is done! (No waiting 3 days to wash your hair!). She is smart, kind, and totally trustworthy. I always know when I come out of the chair I will love my new look!
I get my hair cut by Carlos, and much like Gretchen, I have nothing but rave reviews! Carlos is the best at cutting hair, he listens to what you want and is a real genius with scissors! He is creative but always always gives you the cut YOU want, not what he wants. He’s also hilarious and very very kind, so I always look forward to getting my hair cut!

Gretchen does THE most amazing color: she intuitively understands what will look good with your style, skin tone and eyes. She is also very practical about upkeep and knows what will be feasible and what to steer clear of so you always look your best. She has been doing my hair for 6 years and I could not be happier.
Carlos is warm, welcoming and humble as the owner. He does incredible hair cuts (he does my style and my teenage daughter’s hair as well).

This review is long overdue. Carlos Macias is my favorite hairdresser, ever. And I’m 272 years old, so you can imagine what that statement means! No but seriously, Carlos considerate and super attentive to your requests yet adventurous and artistic, extraordinarily aesthetic, so talented and MOST of all, a wonderful human being. His energy and stellar values permeate Carlos’ entire staff (like hair stylists Flora and Rogelio and then Alessandra’s magnificent facials just to name a few of the sweet people there) in his Salon Macias, just one of my favorite places on the Planet Earth: Somehow Carlos has gathered all of the loveliest folks and put them in one cozy little corner — Salon MACIAS!
Just one problem, he may make you feel like you’re his favorite client, but, believe me, everyone is! Really, just everyone. Just terrific.

I had a «customized facial» by Alessandra Cavallero on June 19, 2015. This is the best facial I ever had. My skin still feels and looks great almost three weeks later. Alessandra is very knowledgeable, professional, and pleasant. I highly recommend her.

I came inn a few weeks ago for help! My friend who «Graduated», beauty school chopped off my bangs… never the less they were extremely crooked. I came inn on a last minute appointment with Carlos, who gave me his honest advice on what to do and wualahhh… he made my terrible hair cut look Fabulous!

I am so picky when it comes to skincare and facials and I definitely found an expert at Salon Macias! Alessandra did a wonderful job on my customized facial and was very knowledgeable about which products to use on my skin, which tends to be overly sensitive! I left feeling so refreshed, relaxed, and had never seen such a natural glow to my face! I can’t wait to be back, what an amazing experience!

I know how hard it is to find a great colorist! I moved from Boston to San francisco six years ago, finding a new hair dresser was top priority! Gretchen was recommended to me by a co-​worker who’s own hair looked amazing! After one visit I was hooked! I’ve been seeing her ever since. She’s has helped me achieve every possible creative hair idea I’ve had over the years from blonde to brunette to my now favorite RED! Since I came through on the union street fair, I’ve never gone anywhere else, and several friends are now regulars here. Great staff and ambiance, and consistently awesome rotating art (bought a piece here myself). Come once and you are hooked!
