Came here with my mom and brother for lunch before we do our errands. Here are the things that we order: we were suppose to get the shanghai soup dumpling, but when it came out, it was totally different which was the the shrimp dumpling. When we call the waiter who took our order about this dumpling. he misheard us and thought we wanted the shrimp instead and probably didnt understand us from the beginning even though we said it multiple time. He was probably new. Crab and pork dumpling… Stir fried noodle shanghai style… after we place our order… we didnt even wait 5 minutes. Probably 2 minutes or less. We wonder if it was someone else who already order or premade. This dish seems kinda little The foods and prices were average. It would have more satisfying if they had brought out one of dumpling correctly. Parking may be tough around this neighborhood

I think we found our new favorite Chinese Food Restaurant in San Francisco. The soup dumplings were amazing! The honey walnut prawns and honey chilly beef was delicious. And the Shanghai Style Noodles were awesome!!! We’ll be back for sure

I liked this place because of its small-restaurant charm. The sizzling rice soup was awesome light comfort food, and filling too, with all that rice. The Shanghai pan-fried buns were mediocre, I wouldn’t recommend this dish. The xlb was pretty good. Not too much soup in the dumpling, but good flavor. The table next to us had this zha jiang main looking dish with thin noodles. Had me drooooooling! Going back just for that.

The xiao long Bao, Dan Dan mien and the spicy dumplings in chili oil are the best here! Why go all the way to the sunset or Richmond when there is one on Monterey ave? The xiao long Bao has a nice soup when you bite into it! The dan Dan mien is a generous portion with a really good meat sauce! The spicy dumplings have a really good sauce as well! The prices are very reasonable here too.

I dropped by for a quick to-go order of the Spicy wontons in a creamy, peanut sauce based on the exceptional Unilocal reviews. These were indeed incredible delicacies. I’ve never tasted anything quite like it. The restaurant itself looked pleasant and quite bustling for a Sunday afternoon. Will definitely come back to sample more of the menu.

TLDR — Tasty, affordable dumplings. Get delivery from UberEATS or Caviar to avoid the long wait! Review is for UberEATS delivery. As someone who hates waiting for a table at a restaurant, it’s unlikely I would’ve tried their dumplings if it weren’t for UberEATS or Caviar. I was actually pretty hesitant to order dumplings for delivery because I didn’t expect them to arrive fresh and warm, so I was surprised when they were delivered as if they had just come out of the kitchen a few feet away. Prices were really reasonable for the amount of food as well. * SHANGHAISTEAMEDDUMPLING($ 6.95, 10pcs) — 4⁄5 The pork filling was tender, juicy and flavorful, but some of the dumplings were lacking in soupiness. The dumpling skin was thicker than DTF and a little mushy/doughy, but surprisingly capable of holding the dumpling together. * SPICYCHIVES&PORKDUMPLING($ 6.50, 10pcs) — 4⁄5 Tasty filling as well and same doughy skin. The dumplings weren’t spicy but the spicy/garlic sauce was still flavorful. Overall, solid dumplings. Not the best I’ve had, but given the price and especially given the convenience and quality of delivery, I’d order again to satisfy my dumpling cravings.

My bf and I ordered Shanghai Dumpling King on Saturday night through UberEats! It was our first time trying this restaurant and we decided to get three things: xiao long bao(shanghai soup dumplings), pork & vegetable dumplings, and garlic eggplant. The total(with $ 5 delivery fee) was $ 28. Not too bad! I would probably give the food 4 stars but what led to 3 instead was the packaging of the xiao long baos… For everyone who loves them, the best part of a xlb is the soup inside! Unfortunately, all our dumplings were packed so tightly in a plastic container that when we picked up one, the skin would rip and the soup dripped out. :(Maybe they could package it in a bigger container like i’ve seen at Kingdom Of Dumpling. Other than that, the dishes were good. I especially liked the garlic eggplant, which was a little sweet and had a slight kick of spice to it too! The pork & vegetable dumplings were standard, but nothing too special. Definitely a worthy choice on UberEats!

Great 2nd location! Shanghai Dumpling King is now conveniently located off of 280, and lucky for me, just a few blocks away from my grandparents’ house. This location has less of a hole in the wall feel than the Balboa restaurant, but in a good way. The interior is clean and spacious with ample seating. There is plenty of free and metered street parking around the restaurant. The staff is friendly and the food comes out super quick. We usually order the XLBs and pea sprouts, and have also tried the spicy chive and shrimp dumplings, spicy chicken wings, and chives and meat pastry. They offer a mango lassi, which is nice and refreshing on a warm day. The food has consistently been delicious, and I don’t mind frequenting this spot!

These guys are as good as it gets in terms of managing orders even when it is busy beyond comprehension. Very hard workers. The restaurant is nothing special visually but food is good and service efficient. Parking is limited in this neighborhood.

I said it before, and I’ll say it again, I don’t know jack about Asian food. And with so many experts in the field residing locally, I prefer to let them decide for me. But for my money, it doesn’t get much better than Shanghai Dumpling King. I was having a terrible day before I arrived to SDK. I just had the worst flight ever home from Atlanta(sitting bitch on a 5 hour flight = never again). Some jackhole called me a bitch in the crosswalk for no reason. Then I couldn’t find parking at or near SDK. In other words, my fuse was LIT. Once I found parking, I debated turning around and returning home, as I was already 0 for 3. It didn’t seem like a good plan to test the universe when it was so clearly working against me that day. But I’m so glad I did not! SDK really turned the day around for me. We walked in and were sat and served on the quick, which is my favorite. I had a beer in hand in the blink of an eye, which is also my favorite. We looked at the menu and made some fast dumpling decisions. When our server arrived to take our order, we told her what we wanted and she made some great recommendations. We ordered the wontons(which are not really a wonton), Shanghai steamed dumplings, spicy Chive and shrimp dumplings, BBQ pork buns, and veggies with tofu. Our server rubber stamped all of those wonderful choices. We were going to get the pork and Chive dumplings as well, but thank goodness she talked us out of it. Friends, it was a lot of food for two people, and we ate ALLOFIT. It was all so deliciously filling. Our selections arrived to our table faster than immediately, which we were stoked about. I ate the majority of the BBQ Pork Buns. I love the texture of those things — it’s like eating a little cloud with a yummy pork surprise inside. The wontons(which are not your traditional wontons) were served in an excellent peanut sauce. Our server said everyone loved them, and you can see why– very flavorful. The shrimp and spicy Chive dumplings were excellent, and I loved the texture. SDK’s namesake, the Shanghai dumpling, likewise did not disappoint, even though I will cop to eating them incorrectly. I cut it them in half, which you aren’t supposed to do since the broth will spill out of the dumpling. Whoops! My only complaint was that everything was so good, I couldn’t stop eating even though the dumplings were hot as balls, temperature wise. I burnt the roof of my mouth more than once. The prices are dirt for San Francisco. All of those delicious delectables and beers were $ 50 and change. At any other full service restaurant in this city, you would likely leave hungry. I was so enthused I ordered SDK for delivery last Sunday off of the OrderAhead app(less than a week after my first visit), and my order arrived quickly-still hot and delicious. The ambiance is unremarkable. You won’t care. I know I didn’t. The crowd was great and relaxed. You can definitely wear your yoga pants to SDK without incident. The buzz from the SF Weekly’s review has maybe died down, although I hear the SDK on Balboa usually has a long wait. I recommend the chili sauce on the table. It is not as oily as most. The prices are very reasonable. The service is warm and friendly. The dumplings are delicious. What more could you want? Yet another reason to love Glen Park. Enjoy!

The food here is absolutely delicious! The service is friendly but slow, and the décor could be nicer… but the dumplings are where it’s at! We liked each and every one of the dishes we ordered: 1) Shrimp and chive dumplings in peanut sauce(amazing!) 2) Shanghai dumplings(«classic» and tasty) 3) Crab dumplings(great) 4) Pork buns(good) 5) Spicy wontons(awesome) 6) Pea shoots with garlic(a flavorful veggie side) The service was a little mixed. They were slow to greet us when we entered, and then after we were seated, they took a while to take our order. On the other hand, the food came out quickly, and the staff was friendly and polite. The décor is a little stale — replacing the old sticky carpet would a long way — but it’s generally clean and pleasant. Come here for the amazing dumplings — you will not be disappointed!

Dumplings tastiness: B– Cleanliness: C Will only stop by to pick up food if I’m in the area, won’t drive all the way there just to eat there. That’s my take.

Last Sunday my friends and I ate here for brunch and it was okay. We ordered green onion pancake, Wonton soup, spicy wontons, hot and sour soup, pork steam buns and the sauteed egg plants. Green onion pancake: way too dry. Wonton soup: this would’ve been amazing if there were soup in the Wonton. All the soup leaked out the bottom causing everything to get soggy. Spicy wonton: The wontons weren’t spicy at all, but had a yummy peanut sauce on the top. Kind of like a Asian salad dressing? Pork steamed buns were yummy! Hot and sour soup & the vegetable dumplings I didn’t try, but my friends said it was pretty good. Overall this place was good… Not sure if I would go again. I feel like SF has way more to offer.

The shanghai dumplings were exceptional. Juicy and soupy inside. Yum. Got that and the shrimp and chives dumpling per the waiter’s recommendation saying that these two items were the most popular. I will definitely come back and try other items on the menu. There’s complimentary tea, great service, and great food. 5 stars.

XLB at Shanghai Dumpling King — My favorite. It’s my go to restaurant for valentine’s day and anniversaries. I’ve been a patron at the Balboa location for sometime and finally decided to try this location. Here’s my thoughts: 1. Parking — Way easier than Balboa. Parking at some points of time probably could be challenging, but there were a lot more options and the area was not very congested. 2. Wait Time — No wait time when I came on a Saturday at lunch time 3. Flavor Profile — After ordering the green beans and XLB — same taste as the Balboa location For just the above items, it deserved 5 stars. Now I was torn between giving this place 2 or 3 stars. As many other Unilocalers have indicated, probability of getting a XLB with soup in it is pretty slim. In about an order of 10, you will have maybe 2 that have soup in it while all others have leaked out. At that point you might as well just get regular dumplings. Overall this is a good place if you want to trick yourself into eating XLB and also enjoy some tasty chinese food. However, check out other locations if you actually want to eat soup dumplings.

Very sad to be writing this review but it has to be done. My family and I usually come here for dinner when there’s a special occasion or for the too-lazy-to-cook nights. After our last visit, I don’t think I’d ever want to come back. Not sure if it is a change of management or what, but they totally skimped out on their portions now. Their dishes are pretty small for their prices and the quality is just so general/nothing special. I still can’t believe there were only about 10 walnuts on a shrimp & walnut dish, c’mon man. Also how can the restaurant be called«Dumpling King» when the XLB dumplings were super soggy and wet where all the soup that’s supposed to be inside of the dumplings all spilled/leaked out. The service is pretty bad too. We came here with a party of 7 and in an Asian restaurant, you’d think they’d actually serve the soup… but nope. They placed the soup on the OPPOSITE end of the turning/serving table of where the bowls were set at. then just left it there. So my family and I awkwardly had to move the soup bowls closer to where the soup was then had to scoop it into the bowls ourselves. Odd. Only experienced that when it’s like a party of 2 or 3. Not a party of 7 though. The order of the food that came out was also very odd. First was the vegetables… what? And my family and I let it sit there for a good 5 minutes until a meat dish came out to compliment the vegetables. Am I missing something or is this a new style of serving food… Ugh honestly I was so upset with everything that it pretty much ruined the vibe for me and my family’s meal. We ordered about 9 – 10 dishes and weren’t even full off of it, what the hell. So my dad even ordered an extra chow mein to make sure everyone had an efficient amount of food in the end. Lame. I also noticed they seemed to have focused more on their to-go meals. It also seems they are tailoring their dishes more to their non-Asian guests. I really hate writing bad reviews but this one was just so terrible. Never going to return.

Waitress was super sweet! Based on Unilocal pictures, I ordered the shrimp and chive dumplings and she recommended the pork dumplings in peanut sauce. Pork dumplings in peanut sauce: as with all dumplings, these come out steaming hot. Cut into one and allow it to cool a bit before popping it into your mouth. You’ll be able to enjoy the subtle garlic flavor in the peanut sauce and the tender, juicy pork filing. Shrimp and chive dumpling: the skin on these is a bit thicker. The delicate soy based sauce is dotted with shiny red hot oil drops that lend just a touch of spiciness to the plump shrimp filling. The flavors are good and portions and price reasonable. Best to go with at least one other person so you can share and get more!

Hmmm i had higher hopes for this place: the xlb: it was good better than the dumpling house Spicy shrimp and chives dumplings: pretty good, the skin was a little too soggy for me Crab and pork: meh, it was too chewy Pea sprouts: good but small portion Overall service was good and it was empty on a Saturday night. Food was okay.

I don’t know why this place has such low rating, because I think it deserves so much more. I pretty much come to this place every single time I am in San Francisco. Even a few times a week. Being from Seattle, Din Tai Fung is the closest place for Xiao Long Bao and Shanghai stir fried noodle, but it will NEVER beat the prices and authentic taste here. Get the stir fried noodle or rice cake! You will not regret it! It has a great soy-sauce sweet taste. Xiao long bao is the second best thing. After, chives and pork dumpling(steamed without the hot sauce) is great if you’re a chive fan! If you don’t like vinegar, I recommend using soy sauce for the complimentary dipping sauce they give you in the beginning. If there is a long wait, which I never had to experience, it is DEFINITELY worth the wait. Service was great, for a Chinese restaurant. Waiters kept walking by to see if everything was good or needed more of anything and to take away empty places. We ordered 2 dumplings, 1 noodle dish, and 1 appetizer for a total of $ 29. I’m so glad this place is so inexpensive for its food.
