Formerly known as The WestWood, the restaurant rebranded itself about a month ago as the«Shark and the Pig.» I’m not sure what’s up with dual-item nomenclature these days(«Beast and the Hare?» «Hog and Rocks?» «Girl and the Goat?»), but Shark and the Pig sounds pretty cool. I’m half-sold already. Aside from the cool(and huge) elevated communal table in the middle of the restaurant, the ambience of the restaurant itself could use some work. The restaurant is cool and dim(very bar-like), so warm, natural lighting would be awesome, especially for weekend brunch. I came in for brunch with some friends and the restaurant was totally empty so we got seated right away. We tried the 1) Mimosa, 2) Pulled Pork Benedict, and 3) Corned Beef Hash. The food was good. Not amazing, and a little on the salty side, but definitely solid brunch food. Service was great and friendly, and the housemade hot sauce they provided was pretty bomb. All in all, based off of food-alone, this place doesn’t stand out too much. Factor in service, and most importantly, NOWAITFORBRUNCHINTHEMISSION, and I’d definitely come back again. If you’re tired of waiting over an hour for brunch at Foreign Cinema or MIssion Beach Café, come give this place a try!
