Went here for a casual business meeting dinner. Food, presentation and service were excellent. The sashimi was exceptional. People in the party commented to me about how good it was. I only made the reservation of course, but wow it was really good and it was great everyone else appreciated it as well. Will definitely be back here.

I came here with a friend on a Wednesday night and I left more than satisfied. I ordered Rainbow Roll and Dragon Roll and my friend ordered Spicy Tuna Roll and Spicy Crab Roll. I generally don’t eat raw fish at all but I felt a bit adventurous that day and told myself why not? I might end up liking it more than expected. I definitely lucked out that day to pick this amazing place to try something new and although I can’t say it converted me to like raw sushi, it was definitely enjoyable enough for me to finish the Rainbow Roll by myself. The Dragon Roll was great and I think the thing I liked most is that the pieces were cut into decent sized pieces unlike some places; you know, the one where you have to open your mouth as wide as you possibly can and when you get the piece in, you can’t chew without looking like a chipmunk. My friend seemed to have enjoyed his rolls just as much as I did. We added a negi hama roll to share and it was okay, the rice felt like it had a bit too much vinegar when compared to the other rolls we had. My friend also got the spinach as an appetizer. The service wasn’t quite as attentive but that’s quite alright, I don’t expect servers to be at my beck and call every minute of my meal and it wasn’t as if it was slow either. The service was definitely very friendly though, so that definitely makes up for it. To boot, we even got a complimentary sushi and dessert on the house but we were definitely going over what is considered normal by our own standards. We pushed over $ 100 for two, the deluxe rolls(both of mine) are a bit on the pricier side but I think they’re worth it. My friend also got 3 different sakes on top of what we ordered so it added up. I definitely see myself coming back.

I was looking for some Japanese food to eat at 10:30 pm and I happened to find this place since my sister reviewed it! The restaurant from the outside looks super janky. I suppose they’re fixing their sign but right now it’s a cardboard box with«Sugoi Sushi» written on it with sharpie. Once you walk in though it’s a nicely decorated interior. Parking was easily found on the street outside(well at least at 10:30pm on a Saturday). The menu is super confusing and overwhelming. There’s just so many choices. But let me make some for you. DON’T bother with any of the rolls. They’re just alright and don’t really stand out. DON’T get the ramen. It’s just a ton of broth with barely any noodles. A little salty and nothing impressive. GET the sashimi. All of their seared fishes and nigiri are amazing. I tried the Salmon with Garlic & Ginger and it was just phenomenal. The fish is so fresh and seasoned perfectly. GET the TORO nigiri. The fish literally just melts in your mouth. So good. GET the Grilled Salmon Cheek. The meat is soft and flaky. After all this food they even gave us complimentary sashimi and mini cupcakes for dessert! I would definitely come back to try their omakase(6 piece for $ 30 or 10 piece for $ 60 I believe). But really to just come back and only eat their sashimi.

Came here Friday night on MDW2016 and had a dinner with with my bf and his friends. What I can say is… Sugoi is now our favorite sushi spot in SF. Tuna takaki was a hit for me and we ordered the first 5 nigiris on the menu. Wasn’t a fan of their edamame as it was too over cooked, soggy, and no flavor… also a very long wait for our sushi. Other wise… sushi was amazing and service was standard. Everything I seen coming out looked pretty. Loved the little cupcakes. Call to make reservations or do it on the Unilocal app. We will be back!

We decided to give this place a try after Saru Sushi told us that we would have to wait for 90 mins for a table(at 5:40pm), and even though they had some seats available. No thanks Saru… We were warmly welcomed but the hosts at Sugoi Sushi and quickly sat at a table. We ordered a bunch of different items from their sushi menu. All of them were very fresh and nicely prepared(though a bit too small). Will not mention every single item we had(we had MANY!!!) but here’s the ones that I thought were especially amazing: — Japanese Grouper(AMAZING!!!) — Unagi — Squid — Yellowtail We also had hamachi cheeks, those were just average. HA! Also an interesting thing is how they pour a glass of sake. A glass of sake($ 9) is basically 2 glasses, with the actual glass being inside a little box that is also filled with sake. We will certainly come back!

I got there by searching for ramen on Unilocal.Ordered their most expansive option. The flavor was there but broth was pure salt. It also barely had any noodle inside my ramen. I asked for a bit more noodle because it had only on fork half full of noodle in my bowl, server said it was the usual amount for that restaurant and moved on saying he would get me some more. 15 minutes later i get another fork half full of noodles. My server got clearly annoyed because I ordered only ramen and gave me bad service. When my bill arrived they charged me $ 4 for literally a half full fork of ramen. Portion was sold as regular size but it is mediocre. $ 4 for another mediocre side noodle without letting me know it would ve charged was shady.

4.5 Stars I’ve been here twice so far, and I’ve got to say it’s pretty darn good. The restaurant is pretty nice and modern. It’s pretty dark inside, which sucks when you’re trying to take pictures of all the food… Everything is pretty good, but I would recommend trying items from their specials menu to get a full experience here. Here’s what I’ve tried: +Seared Blue Fin Toro — First off, 5 pieces of toro for $ 22 is pretty cheap. And it’s actually really good, but to warn people, it’s super rich. +Torched Walu — The sashimi tasted pretty fresh on this one, and I liked it. +Albacore Tataki — This is my FAVORITE dish of them all, and the reason why I will keep coming back. The fresh sashimi is topped with crispy onions, which is just an awesome combination. +Hamachi Kama — Well seasoned and cooked perfectly both times I came +49ers Roll — Didn’t like this one. They really skimped on the fish in this roll by just topping it off, instead of putting it inside the roll too +Chicken Wings — Really small. I mean, really small. +Toro Nigiri — Perfect texture, and great flavor on this one. They gave this one for free to us! +Golden Mountain Roll — Probably one of the better rolls, but nothing that special. +Ankimo — Pretty good, but not the best I’ve had. +Spicy Sausage Ramen — Small, but not bad. The sausage flavor overpowered it. The service here is really good. I saw at the bar during my second visit, and the sushi chefs kept checking up on us. They even gave us 2 dishes on the house and some cupcakes. Overall, this place is great and I will be coming back many times. I took out half a star because there wasn’t that much variety on the menu. I will definitely be back to try their omakase, which looked amazing.

They take reservations, so that’s a good thing. It’s pretty small inside so I could see it would be hard to get a table without one. It’s on the darker side as well — wood paneling, you know, all that. They had an extensive menu — that’s a plus. Many of them were quite pretty. They bring you edamame to start with — which was particularly good(and free). We got a bunch of different rolls. Hot and Cold Tuna was impressive looking. Rainbow roll was also really fun to look at. The more basic Maki were good too. They have a good number of vegetarian rolls — The Nasu Maki with Eggplant was actually one of our favorites — we got a second. All in all the rolls were good. I don’t think that anyone of the fish ones blew me away, but they were solid. I guess I’m only going with three for lack of creativity or specialness? Except the eggplant one which was really good. I’m torn. Maybe it should be 4. They also bring you free ice cream cones for dessert. Cute. It’s not cheap. I mean sushi never is, but this was no exception.

Another Friday night and another sushi date. I had gone to Elephant Sushi the week before and I figured it was time to expand my horizons. Sugoi accepts reservations and for that reason alone, it became the restaurant choice for that evening. We were a few minutes late and were happy to find out that they had not yet given away our table. I was rushing from my massage and I relied on him to do the ordering. I was pleased that Sugoi uses real crab and none of that Krab with a K stuff I absolutely despise. We got a couple of rolls and some nigiri sushi. Everything was good but nothing stood out. As I was eating, my mind wandered off to the superior sushi dinner I had the previous week at Elephant Sushi. Well, now that I tried Sugoi, I know what it has to offer. The décor is cool and the service is pretty good. The food is also solid and a good(enough) option if you’re in the area.

This place has just become one of my favorite sushi restaurants. Came here the other night for dinner and was really impressed. Food was outstanding! The quality of their fish was really good, and it was actually pretty cheap compared to other sushi restaurants. For example, they have a 6 piece seared blue fin toro sashimi dish for only $ 22! It was amazing. A couple of other dishes that really stood out was the torched walu(butterfish), and the ankimo. My friend and I ordered more dishes, but I forgot what they were all called. Everything was just so flavorful and presented beautifully. My 2 year old son also loved this place. He really enjoyed the hamachi Kama and rice. Service was great! Everyone was attentive and friendly. We even received a dish on the house. I wish I remembered what it was called because it was delicious. I also really loved their décor and ambiance. Very modern and perfect for any occasion. Whether you need a spot for date night, or a dinner with friends. Overall, delicious food and great service. I will definitely be back. Oh and they also give you free green tea ice cream for dessert :)

Never really tried a Japanese restaurant in the Valencia area but it’s worth a try. I can say I’m pretty picky when it comes to Japanese food, especially sushi. I’m never into special rolls since it’s always in some kind of sauce of mayonnaise so you can’t even taste the fish. I do see a lot of rolls on their menu but I prefer sashimi or nigiri. I asked the server for omakase(chef’s cut/choice) so I can have their best fish choices. We also ordered 2 of their special sashimi, torched walu(butterfish) and the seared blue fin tuna. The walu wasn’t as buttery, maybe because they torched it slightly too long. The blue fin tuna wasn’t bad. While we wait for our omakase, the server offered us soup and I asked for a clam soup that would go well with the omakase. They made us the spicy clam miso with agedashi tofu and it was perfect. I’m actually pretty impressed on their omakase. Everything was fresh and the flavorful(natural taste of the fish) you don’t even need to dip anything in soy sauce. Definitely go for their omakase. It’s not on their menu so you’ll need to ask your server.

I picked up some sushi for dinner and it was just okay. We ordered three separate rolls(one of them being Rainbow Roll) and none were memorable. The sushi pieces are TINY with not much fish. The sushi rice was also off — too much vinegar. I’d probably only come again to dine in because the interior is nice and there aren’t good sushi spots in the area. Otherwise, I’d probably venture further for better quality + better priced sushi.

This is my second time at Sugoi and if I could, I would give Chef Roy 6 stars. This is by far my favorite Omakase spot in the Bay Area. First, lets make this clear, I came for the Omakase therefore my review is more useful for those of you who eat raw fish outside of tuna and salmon. I did not come here for California Roll or Gyoza or Ramen so please stop reading if these are the items you typically prefer to eat. My Omakase consisted of 7 pieces of absolute heaven. 1. Abalone grilled on the shell 2. Toro 3. Umi Masu 4. Awesomeness* 5. Kisu 6. Akamutsu 7. Yumminess* So I obviously remembered the names of all my favorites but this list should give you a good idea of the awesomeness I just had for dinner. After the Omakase, I ordered a Hotate where Chef Roy added a slight hint of Truffle Butter to really bring out the SEA in my food.(now I’m laughing at myself too). Now, to really finish the meal off, we got some Caviar served properly on a mother of pearl. So So So creamy and delicious. SUGOI Né!

I don’t even recognize this restaurant anymore! After moving locations, it has improved significantly and for the better. As with many other restaurants in San Francisco, it has become much more hip. Every detail from the rustic furniture and the dim lighting to the utensils and slate serving plates make Sugoi much more«put together» than before. Okay fine — it’s just way more hip. Honestly I barely remember what I ordered especially because the chef brought us some free dishes. Everything I ate was plated so nicely(instagrammable, basically), and also so so so good. I felt super guilty writing a bad review a couple of years earlier because… this is just not the same place. If you want Japanese but can’t afford Kusakabe, deeeefffinitely come here. I know I’ll be back.

Yummmmmm. Food is delicious and filling. They do the Dynamite Roll and shrimp tempura roll really well. Décor is industrial and low lighting which is charming. Be sure you make a reservation, it really makes a big difference, especially on the weekends. Saki is strong so eat before. Rolls can also be shared so bring the friends.

Super great spot in the mission with wood-paneled ambiance, great service and some of the best sushi /sashimi we’ve had in California. Not to miss… — Seared Walu«modern sashimi» — Blue Fin tuna — Uni and Ikura sushi(served on a tempura leaf) — Monkfish liver(luscious… wow) — Agedashi tofu(crispy and delicious) — Aji sashimi(the whole fish… served 3 ways) Service is responsive and friendly, takes reservations and a really great vibe. Go there!

Incredible food and the nicest staff! It’s not easy to find great service, but Sugoi is the place to go if you want friendly staff. It’s feels like we are sort of the family when we come. Menu best picks: Omakase, Albacore with onions, Hamachi with Jalapeños, and Wahakamichi. Bonus: they typically give you a small complimentary treat for dessert!

Been here twice. First time — seating was cramped. We made a reservation. Wasn’t impressed with the spicy pork ramen or tuna sashimi. Most recent time — Also made a reservation. Food: The 2 rolls we ordered were mediocre: rainbow roll and Rock n Roll. Pork belly ramen had a bland broth, with half an egg and one piece of pork. Nothing special. Seating: We were squeezed into a small table next to other customers, almost too closely. When I got up to use the restroom, my butt was in the other person’s face. Awkward. Service: frequent; waiter and waitress were pleasant. Bonus: We got a couple mini cupcakes and two sashimi pieces on the house. That was very nice of them. But again cupcakes were just ok. I didn’t try the sashimi because it had grilled onions on top.

3.5 stars My first time at sugoi was about two years ago when they first opened a block away from where they are now. It went like this: 1. Got a table for 2 — first tinder date. First to arrive. 2. 30 min later, realized I was being stood up 3. Not so graceful exit after a bowl of edamame and two glasses of water 4. Never returning again because they probably think I’m the saddest person ever Fucking tinder. Ruining my dining life too?!? Well, they got a new location and my friends wanted sushi in the mission so I figured I should rewrite history. Everyone deserves a second chance right?!? Thank god my friends showed up. This place isn’t cursed after all. 1. Rainbow roll(3 stars) — pretty standard but the fish should’ve been thicker on top. 2. Valencia roll(3 stars) — mehhh not a huge fan of rolls that just taste like spicy mayo 3. 49er roll(4 stars) — refreshing combo of avocado and cucumber, topped with salmon. Could’ve done without the lemon slices on top, which were overpowering. Just took them off. 4. Nigiris(4 stars) — toro was great but they put too much rice on their nigiris! Walu was tasty too. Salmon was bland and yellowtail also. 5. Spicy pork ramen(4.5 stars) — this was surprisingly tasty. Great flavors, good texture on the noodles. Spicy sausage was yummy. Wishes the egg wasn’t so hard boiled. Given the proximity to where I live and the reasonable price($ 7 ramen!!) I’d probably go back. Was I wow’d? No. But to get my sushi fix in the mission, it’ll do the trick. Free mission minis cupcakes after the meal was a nice touch, though I didn’t have any.

Delicious food and amazing service. We ordered three rolls: spider roll(with a generous amount of soft shell crab), dynamite roll, and spicy tuna roll. The spider roll was good — soft shell crab wasn’t too fried. The dynamite roll was so uniquely presented — the entire roll was deep fried and sliced somewhat diagonally. Very elegant presentation! The spicy tuna roll had the tuna separated out on top, which I have never seen before. Nevertheless it was delicious! We also ordered spicy pork ramen, which was not too spicy and definitely a good savoury addition to our meal. The portion isn’t too big though, which is why it’s only $ 7 or so. One of the servers or managers(she wasn’t dressed as a waiter) noticed us waiting to talk to our waiter, who was at the moment busy with another guest. She asked us what we needed, and we added spicy pork ramen to our order. Very attentive to the needs of the guests! After our meal the chef sent us a complimentary dish, and after getting the check we were also given complimentary dessert(green tea ice cream cones). Given the impeccable service, I was amused to see the check. Some restaurants give you calculations for tip on the receipt — something like 15% tip is this much, 18% is this much, 20% is this much so you don’t have to do the calculation yourself. Sugoi gives suggestions as well, but they start with 20% and 25%. I guess that makes sense because their service is quite up there.
