I am very particular about my haircare so I usually only go to a salon to get my hair washed, I bring my own shampoo and conditioner and then I go home and style it myself. Sounds simple enough, right? I went into Shear Sensation because they were cheap and near my house. I was rather harshly told to wait and once she began she scrubbed so hard that she worked a dread into my hair. I went to pay the $ 5 I owed and, my mistake, they don’t accept cards. They sent me across the street to a place that didn’t have an ATM. Once I found an ATM, the salon that was cash-only couldn’t change a $ 20. So I sat while she went over to the store next door to change it. When I get home, it took me 20 minutes to brush the dread out of my hair and lost a bunch in the process.

Neighborhood salon that had been my hair savior for many years. The short, the long, and the perms of it all — they were done here. The kind of place where everyone knows you and what you like and don’t like. The three stars are the for better of times. The blissful relationship ended when I brought in a picture of a hairstyle I wanted. Something cute that fell past the shoulders. Before I knew it, my stylist proceeded to cut it way too short! I mean, I couldn’t even tuck it behind my ear short. I stopped her and told her I didn’t want it like that, and she argued with me and continued to cut. What the ‘bleep’??? It was cut short in the front, so I couldn’t just leave the rest long… and she kept arguing with me about it. I don’t know what was going on that day, but I’ve never been back. It’s one thing to misunderstand the style, but it’s another thing to fight with the me and try to make it my fault. And after I’ve been going there for almost 8 years?

I’ve been going here(to the same person, no less) since my college days, and I love the quality of service I get… for $ 12 a haircut! Well, at least I think it’s quality, but my friends may have other things to say… :-) As far as I can tell, this is not a full-scale salon(although I’ve never been to a full-scale salon, so I don’t know if I can actually make this statement), and I think women’s cuts are around $ 35. If you go, ask for Teresa.
