The name makes this place sound way fancier than it is. In reality it is a simple convenient/liquor store that carries anything essential you may need. It’s located basically across the street from Da Vinci Villa which is super convenient for travelers like myself. I stopped in to buy a bottle of champagne and came out with not only that, but gold fish crackers, Oreos, water, wine, chips, sunflower seeds, and postcards. Whoops! It was ideal that they sell cold beverages because my hotel room doesn’t have a fridge(or ice for that matter). I loved that I was also able to stock up on snacks for our road trip out to Sonoma. If you forgot to pack something and are in the area, stop in to silver platter! They seriously have everything from phone chargers to groceries and cleaning supplies. Prices are reasonable and the woman working there is a sweetheart!

Deli? I didn’t see no deli. Their alcohol selection game is like 10⁄10 though; it’s very impressive for a mom & pop liquor/convenience store. $ 10 minimum purchase on credit cards/debit cards usage and no AMEX or Discover accepted.

I’ve been coming here as my main bodega for eight years. The staff is as friendly as it gets(they sometimes give a treat to my dog and sometimes one for me too). A place that has all the essentials within two blocks of me is a big win.

Tonight, I was at the laundromat a few doors down, and the quarter machine was down. The owner there said I could come here to Silver Platter for quarters. I assume they know each other and it is ok, and I shop at Silver Platter regularly also. I thought it was ok, but then the grumpy old man yelled at me. His face turned red and he said the owner over there is not his boss and he does not have to give me quarters. It was not my idea, why are you yelling at me? He probably had rolls of quarters somewhere. How could a cash based business like this not have quarters? Even if he did not have quarters, there is no reason to yell at me about it. After all, I am still a customer there, well I was one. I never get yelled at when I go to Walgreens. I will not shop here anymore. There are plenty of corner stores around to spend my money.

Great neighborhood store. We come here for our alcohol and beverage needs, plus the occasional forgotten grocery item… like tuna fish, mayo, teriyaki sauce, lemons, T.P., etc… :-) They also have a small hardware/office section, and a great selection of ice cream… Yum.

All I know is that I found that box of prunes my bro needed to keep himself regular while healing from surgery. And some really good chocolate. Prunes and chocolate. Yum.

The thing that sets the Silver Platter above the handful of other liquor stores withing walking distance? The(usually) friendly family who runs it. I don’t know what it is about running a liqour store that makes the proprietor’s grouchy, but it sure is nice to find one where the people are friendly. Strip that away, and you’ve got your basic liqour store — a place you run to when you just need some bread for breakfast or some vodka for your orange juice.
