Actually 0 star… The worst, terrible and impolite service ever!!! I never want to go there!

Fresh smoothies natural ingredients. Good empanadas(pulled pork is Spanish style not BBQ) and breakfast sandwiches are also good. Haven’t had the pastries. They look very appetizing but don’t look immediately fresh. All and all a good place for lunch away from my office. And they make great coffee and waffle mixes.

Stopped in here for coffee today and was pleasantly surprised by the look and feel of this place. LOVE the fact that their menus are handwritten by what I can only assume is a local artist. Although I didn’t grab any food during my visit, their breakfast menu seemed to be fairly robust and contained quite a few options to choose from. The café was also very high-tech for being such a modest coffee shop. The register was equipped with a Leapset POS Terminal(first one I’ve seen) that was essentially a self-checkout register where you could specify your tip amount and sign directly on the screen. Very cool. All in all Sprio is nice little coffee shop. Will certainly stop by again next time I’m in the area.

Tuna melt was delicious! Bread nice and toasty. Tuna mixed with onions, celery, mayo, and mustard. I haven’t tried the coffee yet, but the place is awesome. Plenty of seatings, regular or high tables. Not too many people during lunch so you can get your study on.

I walked into Spiro Café on Friday afternoon around 4:50pm. As soon as I entered I was greeted by a young male employee who crudely mentioned to me that the store would close very soon. He then continued by saying that the kitchen was closed. I explained that I was just ordering a drink to go. I was shocked by this greeting being that there were a few customers comfortably seated at their tables in the back of the café on their laptops. I also checked online and noticed that the closing hours were listed as 7pm. I ordered a mint tea and an oatmeal cookie. While making my purchase I did not get a thank you nor any indication of a smile. As I waited for my tea I began to realize that my presence was not welcome and that this familiar sense of isolation that I was experiencing was racism. Instead of handing me my cookie, the employee threw it on the counter, expecting me to pick it up. When my tea was ready, the employee handed it to me. Not once did he tell me where the lids were. I saw that he’d gathered everything for closing on a small table. I picked up a lid and said thank you. I did not even get a response back. I looked at the remaining customers in the café and wondered why he showed no hesitation to remind me immediately that the store was closing but not the customers eating in the café. I will not invest my time nor money into this business again. As a young woman of color, I encounter a unique kind of discrimination separate from«bad customer service». My presence was not wanted and this employee clearly did not want to serve me.

My friends and I have studied/worked from Spiro several times and I have really enjoyed it. The tables are big enough for your laptop and food/drink, and the atmosphere is generally conducive to getting some work done. On top of that, the food and the beverage is quite good. I’ve enjoyed the sandwiches, pastries, and teas. I’m giving them two out of five stars, however, for their sporadic food service. They have a great menu, but they randomly decide to shut down the kitchen at the most sporadic times. Seriously – one day they’ll stop making food at 1 p.m. The next it will be 3:30. You have no idea as a customer. It’s incredibly annoying to walk in for lunch and have them tell you, «We aren’t making food anymore today.» It seems that they have two people working – one in the«kitchen» and one as a barista. Whenever the kitchen person decides to leave(which is not at a regular time), they no longer serve food – only drinks. We have even called ahead before and asked, «Will you be serving food in about 20 minutes?» and gotten responses like, «Honestly, I have no idea.» How can you run a successful café like that?! It makes no sense. I’ve seen many people walk in, try to order, learn they are only serving drinks, and then leave. Seem like an awful lot of lost business. If you just want a coffee and maybe a pastry-it’s great. Give it a try. If you want lunch, there is only about a 45% chance you’ll be able to order off of the food menu – you’ve been warned.

I come here at least twice a week. Good: Coffee, food, smoothies, big lunch menu. Nice space with plenty of light. Okay: Service. I see that some Unilocalers have complained but I’ve found folks here friendly. Bad: Expensive. And they often run out of ingredients, so items are unavailable. Overall: A decent place in a neighborhood with few options.

Breakfast sandwich on a croissant is the best. they let you switch up the ingredients for an added charge lol, I always get the breakfast with bell peppers, red onions, bacon and avocado, great way to start your 12 hour shift!## Call your order in and safe time if you are in a rush. Reg MD late is also the greatest taste of coffee u can get in the tenderloin. I think they put something in the coffee because it put in a good mood. EXPENSIVEBUTWORTHIT. I LOVEIT !!!#

First of all our motel in the«tenderloin» was itself an experience that I’ll review later. So finding Spiros Coffee was a nice surprise and had breakfast there four times. It is a nice looking place well situated to attract a lot of customers, but it is often empty, even at peak hours. Relatively high prices combined with a staff that is at best described as «detached!» When a business has so much going for it the service staff are the ones that make it or break it! Next time in SF we won’t be staying in this area!

I don’t know what’s about the complaints about unfriendly service. Seven of us camped at a few tables for three hours in the back when we got locked out of our meeting place and no complaints or attitude from the staff. Of course we got beverages at the start, some snacks midway through and a few of us got sandwiches afterward, but they even turned the music off for us at our request so we could have our meeting in peace. And the wifi worked well for our computer. The round chocolate thing is really chocolatey goodness, not sure what it’s called, and I enjoyed my veggie sandwich. When I switched teas on my refill, she asked if I liked the first one and made a rec for the second tea, saying she’d replace it if I didn’t like it. Actually, both teas were fine although next time I’d get the mint if I wasn’t in a group. Comfortable space and there wasn’t any problem actually using the rest room. I would certainly try them again.

Spiro has the potential to be an amazing five-star workspace(easily catering to the Philz’s spillover crowd). There’s a massive menu wall full of tasty-sounding items including a breakfast burrito and a handful of other sandwich, salad, smoothie, and snack options. They have a glass display case full of delicious looking pastries, as well. Also, they serve Sightglass, which is a quality bean. Additionally, there’s Wi-Fi and the space is relatively clean. However, there’s a reason this café is always relatively sparsely filled when I drop by. For starters, they are a food establishment with a functional bathroom yet they almost always slap an «Out of Order» sign on the door — this is not only frustrating for paying, caffeinated patrons, but I question its legality as well. Also, their workers have always been unfriendly and aloof every time I place an order for a generic tasting salad or sandwich that ends up costing me well over $ 10. That and my expensive coffee leaves me $ 15 – 20 poorer every time I’m here and no smarter for returning time and time again. Back to Philz it is.

I’m changing my review for this café because after the first review I have had better customer service. One of the best café around the area and they care for their customers.

Their latte is decent. Their seating is great. Full of windows overlooking VanNess blvd. They offer prepared food. But unfortunately they pull a «out of service» on the bathroom because they are too lazy to clean it. If you can’t pee, then the people won’t come I guarantee it.

Ordered the«Nuts About Kale» smoothie while waiting for my SO to finish an appointment. This was soooo delicious. Creamy, nutty and so refreshing at the same time. It was so delicious that I had to order a second for later on in the day. Definitely a smoothie I’d make an extra effort to go back and get next time I’m in the area. FYI, if you’re looking for a more thorough menu than what’s listed on their website, check out their online menu ordering system. Much more extensive than what’s on their site.

Really enjoyed the experience. My cortado was outstanding, exacy right. The chai latte was nice also. They have a great food selection also. We got a Healthy Choice sandwich and a breakfast burrito. Both very flavorful and fresh. Only complaint is the restroom situation. They only have one and we waited forever, and the person never came out. So a slight inconvenience, at no fault of the shop of course.

Ordered the seasonal spicy chai latte. It definitely wasn’t lacking in spice… it was almost abrasive. But I needed something warm and hearty and it did the trick. Do I wish I had ordered something else? Yes. However, they do feauture samples of sandwiches in the front counter, and that was probably the best part of my drop-in here. Their bit of spicy pulled pork sandwich was awesome!!! I would want to give that a shot if anything.

The espresso and breakfast menu are somewhat creative given the choices that some of the other nearby coffee shops(with espresso choices) have. However, terrible doesn’t even begin to describe the service. The lady who I assume is the manager, is one of the rudest people I’ve met in San Francisco. I’ve been a number of times thinking it could have just been an off day for her, but it turns out it’s just her personality. The lattes are decent and the French toast is enough to satisfy my Saturday craving. I won’t stop going since the place is a half block away, just be aware to not expect anything when it comes to the service there!

I do work with clinics around this part of town frequently, so Spiro is one of the coffee spots I make sure to stop by on my way. From my perspective, the star of this place is the strawberry muffins!($ 2) The best time to come during weekday mornings is right around 845am – that seems to be around the time they pull the muffins out of the oven. When they’re fresh, warm, and moist – omg drool! Pairs so well with their standard quick cup of coffee($ 2.50). They serve Sightglass, but depending on the barista, the pour over can be a bit inconsistent in quality. For times during mid-day when I need to sit in a café to get some work done – I keep returning to Spiro because of the abundance of seating, tables, and free wifi. Everyone else seems to have challenging experiences here, but it really can be a simple process: walk in, purchase something, then sit down and start working. Of course they’re going to walk to your table and let you know(in a rude way or not) that you must purchase something in order to use wifi. There are plenty of other café’s across the city if you want to freeload some wifi. If you intend to purchase something – save yourself the drama and just purchase something first before you sit down. The sandwiches($ 8-$ 10) and salad($ 8-$ 10) offerings in their menu are a bit pricey for the quality of the dishes. I agree with most reviews that their menu items are heavy on the bread and greens side and don’t offer much in the content of their sandwiches. Overall, if you’re looking for a quick cup of coffee and a great house made muffin to pair – Spiro is a great place to check out.
