We took our 5-year-old son to this mini Union Street Fair just to catch the 2pm Easter parade. Being SF, it’s quite an unusual site of events, with people dressed up as cows on rollerblades, a few classic cars rolling through, fancy hats/costumes, dressed up dogs, and drag queens riding through the parade(???). Of course, the 10-block street fair charges for everything i.e., train rides, car rides, tea cup, swing rides, bouncers, carnival games, rip-off balloons, petting zoo, etc. Basically, it’s a way for the city to make a buck, especially with little kids $$$. 100 tickets for $ 65, and each ride or game costed 3 tickets. Good thing my little man walked away with some winnings, which means more stuffed animals for his closet. We will pass on this parade next year, and years to come!

We went to the 18th Annual Union Street Spring Celebration & Easter Parade on Sun 4÷12÷09. After going to the Japantown Cherry Blossom Festival we took the 47 bus and got off at Laguna and walked to the festival. It’s pretty small. It’s mainly for the family w/small kids. The girls were dressed up in the little fancy Easter dresses, some of the grownups had fancy & wild Easter themed hats. There were jumping balloons for the kids, pony rides, face painting, train rides, carnival rides & games. Food booths: corn dogs, hot dogs, bbq meats, caramel apples, etc. Plenty of restaurants in the area too. Parade was about 30 min long — pretty short for a parade. People in costumes: duck, bunny, etc, there were vintage cars, a guy in silver wanting to be SF’s hero, Miss SF was in a car waving, stilt walkers, rollerbladers w/cow costumes — who let the cows out? Worth it if you’re in the area anyways & have small kids, not worth a special trip. My pics above. website:
