Spring Pilates & Yoga

I think the instructors are good. Unfortunately there aren’t enough classes to really make use of my 5 class pass.
In month one I went to two classes before I got injured and was out of commission for the till my pass expired. I kind of expected them to be sympathetic of my situation, but I guess rules are rules and I didn’t get a chance to use the rest of my pass. So at the end of the day I paid $ 50 for 2 classes. It isn’t the worst thing in the world, but the drop in rate is $ 15. They could have at least hooked me up with one additional class.
I was also really frustrated with my interaction. I could never get a hold of anyone when I called and when I emailed they left me hanging. It didn’t really leave me with a favorable opinion of the place.

FYI: Just wanted to first point out that Spring Pilates & Yoga did just change ownership and management less than a year ago; so if I were you, I’d disregard any of the comments later than a year ago.
And,
I have found my experience with the new owner and all of the staff/​instructors at Spring to be extremely kind, knowledgeable, and caring. Last March I went to Spring to seek private Pilates classes for extreme neck pain, due to 2 bulging cervical discs. Ali, my biweekly instructor for 3 months was AMAZING! My neck started to get better even after only a few classes, and by the time I had my last session, I had healed dramatically! Don’t know if was from the Pilates itself or that Ali just knew what to do (very sure it was a combo), but I couldn’t recommend more highly Ali, for anyone who wants to try Pilates to treat any kind of pain or just to get in shape. I’ve witnessed the work of the other Pilates instructors at Spring too; and honestly, they’d be great choices for private or public classes.
As for Yoga: As a Noe Valley resident, I’ve found that there are maybe only 2 places to do Yoga within a 10 blocks radius. After many years of trying out other Yoga studios in and outside of Noe Valley, I took a few Yoga classes at Spring Pilates & Yoga recently. Here’s what I liked about it:
* Calming atmosphere
* Great teachers (Claudia’s Therapeutic Yoga class was just what my neck and lower back needed)
* Affordable pricing
* Location (block away from Castro and 24^th)
I guarantee you will not be disappointed coming here.

As a new Pilates student, I have found Spring Pilates to be AMAZING! All the instructors that I’ve had, have been so patient and you can tell they love teaching. The only down side is that I can only get there 1x a week! Never too busy and all the staffing is very kind! Great experience and would recommend it!

I just started attending the yoga classes at Spring Pilates and Yoga a few weeks ago, and LOVE this place. The staff are so nice and helpful, and the instructors are both fabulous. They know how to help push yourself in the class, but also focus on injury prevention in the strenuous workout. The instructors are really good at working with whatever level you are comfortable at without letting you cheat yourself out of a good workout.
The studio is beautiful and in a super convenient location in Noe Valley. It looks like they recently painted the space, and have upgraded their mats, so everything feels clean and also calming and spiritually welcoming.
Their pricing is very competitive, and I liked their new introductory package. The front desk staff was great about helping me figure out a good package for me to start with. I’m excited that they also offer mat pilates and the pilates reformer machines, and it looks like they even have a belly dancing class. Can’t wait to spend more time at Spring Pilates and Yoga in the new year!

This cozy little studio was an absolute oasis during my very stressful week in SF. Never too crowded, classes were conducted warmly and spiritually without trending too far into woo-​woo territory but with hands on adjustments by attentive teachers. I would highly recommend the Friday afternoon restorative yoga class as the perfect end to your week.

I’m very disappointed with my experience. a friend of mine was substitute teaching a zumba class so I went to support her. the class was great cuz my friend is a great instructor. while I was there, the person working there convinced me to sign up for an intro 4-​pack but didn’t tell me that it needed to be redeemed within a month! i left town for several weeks and when i came back i called to schedule a class they told me it was too late and they wouldn’t make any exceptions. totally sucks because i actually work on 24^th street and would have been interested in a membership. poor customer service. feels like they were just trying to get my money without informing me of their policies.

I just started attending pilates classes at Spring Pilates about a month ago and I just LOVE it! Everyone there is so nice. Ciel and Tingzin are both FABULOUS instructors. The fact that they both explain each move to help those of us who are new to pilates is great. They make everyone feel welcome in their classes no matter what your level.
I won’t lie to you though, the classes are not hard unless you want them to be. You have to put something into it to get something out of it.

I’ve been going to Spring Pilates for quite a while now so I guess it’s time I should share my love of the studio and the fantastic instructor, Shannon. I do a weekly group reformer class (max. 4 students) and it’s always a challenge, always fun and I always leave feeling better than before the class. Shannon also teaches a class called HARDcore Mat class which is a non-​stop, hardcore workout choreographed to music. I don’t meant that you’re always dancing to the music but the workout is aligned with the music and often there is a funny theme… like 80s or the like. I’ve also been kinda re-​habbed byShannon after having a pretty invasive wrist surgery involving a titanium plate, screws a hinge. I’m definitely in MUCH better shape than before attending Spring. I HIGHLY recommend Spring and Shannon.

Very disappointed with my experience here. Went for a restorative yoga class. It was OK. Just before class started, teacher signed me in and took payment. She encouraged me to pay more to get a 3-​class pass without telling me anything about the terms and conditions attached to it. I bought it, took the class. When I got home, I saw that it expired in a very short period of time. I was due to be overseas for the next few weeks so I wrote to ask for an extension. The manager refused the request and condescendingly told me that I should have read the web site before paying for the pass. Who really reads web sites while they are paying to attend a yoga class just a few minutes before it starts? Really horrible customer service. It would have cost them nothing to just give me a few more weeks to use the pass.

I so enjoyed my class with Tina at Spring Pilates.
Tina is a wonderful yoga teacher who really knows her stuff.
Her music is lovely, her energy is great, and she
offers excellent description of the poses, which is very helpful.
She creates a very healing environment.
I look forward to more Tina!

Andrea is awesome! She teaches bellydancing and zumba on Tues and Thurs nights. My first introduction to bellydancing was also with her at Academy of Art. Her bellydance workout classes are high energy, rigorous and really fun. I hate going to the gym, so if you like to get a really good ab, thigh, butt and upper body workout, check out her class, it’s worth every penny.

I have now had the opportunity to take both the Bellydance Workout and Choreography classes here with Andrea and she delivers such an amazing workout and each class also contains a beautiful homage to Egyptian and Latin dance styles.
Andrea teaches with unbridled enthusiasm and challenges you to combine basic moves into fun choreography. You’ll get to try no less than half a dozen combinations and each one will leave you smiling as you fall more in love with bellydancing.
Run, don’t walk, to any class Andrea teaches!

Went to Hardcore Mat Pilates class on Sunday at 10:30 with Shannon. It was an awesome class. She plays good music and the class went by pretty fast. There are focuses on each part of the body and incorporation of light weights. Can’t wait to go again!

Ok, so I was getting married and on a mission to tone up in as little time as possible. I knew that I had to do something and it turns out Spring Pilates was the answer!
Love the mat classes. They incorporate props and weights that hurt like hell when you’re using them but then realize that a month later you discover your waist again. Seriously! I found that I have the beginnings of a six pack! (More like a 4 pack, but that’s better than the food baby that was there previously.) The classes are fun and make the hour fly by. Depending on who you take, sometimes there is music too.
Thank you Spring Pilates for torturing me. I will keep coming back even after the wedding!

I cannot believe it has taken me 2 years before I found this place. I am horrible at pilates but this place welcomed me with open arms. The instructor was on it and one of the best I have seen. Clean, packed with options makes me crave more.
I just now realized I like Chinese food places to do the same attributes «Clean, packed with options and craving for more». Haaaaaaaaaa
If you have not checked out Spring Pilates put it down as a must visit.

I’ve just started private reformer classes with Tingzen and am loving it. I appreciate all the minor corrections she suggests in my form that would probably go unnoticed in a larger class setting. The equipment to a beginner like me can be very intimidating. I am grateful for the requirement of bootcamp or privates prior to entering the classroom setting. I have enjoyed my one on one’s so much I have decided to continue. As expected, it’s expensive but well worth it! The only downside is since the space is rather small and the acoustics quite boomy due to the bamboo floors, voices carry and can be rather disruptive. This is particularly true if there is someone speaking to the receptionist or if there is a simultaneous private going on. As a courtesy, voices should be kept down to a whisper and minimum during the one-on-one’s.
The online booking system is very user friendly and convenient for someone with a busy schedule like mine. It’s nice to know that you have a secure spot in the class and the class sizes are kept very small.
I went to my first yoga class with Lyndsey. There were 4 people in my class. I believe it was an all level class but was a bit surprise at how advanced it actually was. Fortunately, I’ve taken many yoga classes (elsewhere) and with many years of dance, I how to avoid injury. Lyndsey could probably do a better job suggesting pose variations for the different skill levels in her class and with using the blocks or blankets for support. It was nonetheless a good class and the small class size allows her to be more attentive to individuals. I like that they cover the mirrors. A nice touch that helps to keep one’s focus inward rather than obsessing over what everyone else is doing. The yoga room is in a beautiful space as well. I look forward to trying out the other classes!
It isn’t a child friendly environment. The studio space is rather small and childcare is not available.

My roommate and I recently decided to embark on a search for the perfect pilates studio. Spring was the second studio I tried, and I’ll be sticking with it for awhile!
Although reformer machines are all the rage, I’m partial to pilates mat classes and am so happy with Spring’s offerings. So far I’ve taken two classes at Spring, with Iddy, and I’ve found them both challenging and delightful. There have been 4 – 5 students in each class, and she provides a lot of personal attention. I much prefer classes where the instructors watch the students and correct form, and I’m favorably impressed with what I’ve seen and experienced here.
The studio has a great location (well, at least for me — I can take a little walk over), the woman at the reception desk is friendly and helpful, and the space feels fresh and new. The class pricing is also competitive, especially for the yoga /​mat pilates packages. Bonus if you have a Green Zebra coupon.

I have been going to the pilates mat classes and have had 2 different instructors and I really like Spring Pilates for the following reasons:
1. Local neighborhood studio with a nice feel, unpretentious, relaxed, no attitude
2. Staff are all really nice and accommodating
3. Comfortable — bamboo floors are nice and clean, they obviously take care to keep everything organized and in great condition
4. Classes are well taught, pilates seems easy but you can always feel a little burn the next day if you really focus and push yourself
Classes are around $ 17 each, which I think is a good deal for an hour.

My husband and I took a mat class with Izabel and immediately fell in love with Spring Pilates. It’s modern, bright, clean and beautifully maintained. Each and every instructor is exceptional. They are kind, smart, generous and really respect their clients. Now almost a year later, I have continued my training with Tingzin, (who rocks) with a combination of privates, duets and Sunday morning reformer classes, which has become the highlight of my week. We laugh, moan, and groan our way to stronger, sleeker, healthier bodies. Thank you, Spring Pilates.
Jrig: You were trying to take the class I take on Sunday. Pilates is like learning a new language. Everything is built upon basics and you didn’t have that knowledge. It’s unfortunate that the website wasn’t perfectly clear to you but don’t trash a place because you were unable to be immediately accommodated. ‘Making it work’, wouldn’t have been fair to the three others in the class. And paying online is a convenience and certainly not mandatory.

I found the studio online — and in order to go to a class I had to sign up and pay online. I did so — for a beginner/​intermediate class, which I understood as «beginner» OR «intermediate». When I arrived, the woman told me that I needed to know all of the names of the moves and how to change the spring on my own in order to take the class. Since I didn’t know how to do that, I wasn’t allowed to take the class. [I’ve since learned — it took me about 2 minutes in my first beginners class.]
1) make your prerequisites clear on the website
2) since I’d already paid and gotten there, and there are only four people in the class, make it work instead of sending me home.
She was very nice about it — yet nice-​but-​sucky customer service doesn’t make me want to come back and try the studio again. In fact, it made me want to write a bad review on Unilocal
