Streiffer Burnham Construction

Brian was recommended by Conor Forde Painting when we found dry rot in the siding on 4 floors in the front and 2 floors in the back.
Brian works on a time and materials basis and he can only estimate how much work is needed for dry rot. You have to remove the siding first to see the extent of the damage.
In the event, after I pushed him, he estimated $ 5K min — 10K max and the final cost was $ 6K. I work at home and I could confirm that the crew was on-​site for the hours that were billed.

These guys did a great job remodeling a bathroom in our Victorian. Brian and Phil are honest and hardworking, and they do what they say they’ll do. Their employees and subcontractors are highly skilled. I think their prices are reasonable considering the excellent quality of their work.
I was really impressed with how Brian Streiffer dealt with the job’s only complication, when a supplier made a little mistake fabricating a countertop. (I want to emphasize this was not Streiffer Burnham’s fault.) It was a tiny detail most people wouldn’t notice, but it bothered me. Brian went to bat for us! He got the supplier to remove, remake, and reinstall the countertop at no extra charge. Now, that’s service.
We were delighted with the remodeling and I can honestly say it was fun working with these guys. I would not hesitate to recommend them or to work with them again myself.

I can’t say enough good things about Brian, Phil, and the whole crew. We’ve had them working on projects for us for over 8 years, working on 5 (more?) different homes & apartments (yes, Brian made it affordable for us to do improvements on our own dime in some less-​than-​ideal rental situations.)
Brian is college-​educated & a genuinely smart guy, and he is great at listening to what you want & thinking up creative ways to achieve that within the timeframe & budget you want. He manages his schedule, subs & budget assiduously so that things go totally smoothly.
The work is top-​notch, and the attention to detail is terrific. They are very conscientious about keeping the job clean (both inside & out of the house) and I especially appreciate their willingness & ability to work with neighbors to avoid disturbing them in our close SF environment. Heck, I appreciate that they avoid disturbing me!
Brian is especially generous with his time and doesn’t mind hand-​holding or explaining stuff when necessary. I totally trust the team to work in my home without me there; they even are willing to work around my 2 big scary-​looking German Shepherd dogs! (Ok, except for Gary, but I won’t single him out!)
Look no further for the best SF has to offer in home construction & renovation.

We had a complicated remodel involving a new bath, expanded bedroom, new roof and solar installation. Brian and Phil, their whole crew and subs were amazing, sweating every detail and making sure everything was right from beginning to end and following up on little issues that came up well after the job was over. Working in tight quarters with close neighbors is a challenge in San Francisco and they worked with the neighborhood to make sure that the impact was low and everybody was happy.
Can’t recommend them enough.

Brian and Phil have done two projects for me — both beautiully. And when I decide what my next project will be, they are the first phone call I’ll make. They work with excellent licensed plumbers, electricians and tile setters and sent me to a great place to pick out fixtures (see my review of LP Decorative Plumbing).
They never let me down, always showed up when they said they would, were extremely patient with me when I changed my mind, and were very clear and fair about cost. And they took great care to be as unobtrusive as possible and kept the construction dust and dirt confined and to a minimum. They cleaned up every day and were incredibly considerate.
I would recommend them to anyone who is planning a construction project — large or small.

Horrible experience, not thorough, way over budget.

We have used Brian as our contractor for three different projects (both inside and in our backyard). We begged him to sign up on Unilocal so we could rate him. His attention to detail and creative problem solving helped to make every project the best it could be. The work was always done on time, at a really good cost. The subcontractors are all excellent and we are VERY impressed with everything they’ve done. Brian was recommended to us by a tile guy, and we seriously owe that guy. We can’t recommend Brian enough.
