You get what you pay for. Come here when most of the local sandwich places close down late at night, and this one of the few places that are still open. This is fast food, get the most«volume» for your buck. Truth is, ingredients aren’t super fresh compared to ToGo’s. The multi-grain bread isn’t whole wheat. All the meats are filled with preservatives. And the everything was most likely frozen beforehand. With that being said, it’s fast food, so I don’t expect high quality. I’m fan, when all else fails, or don’t have much to spend. Place is very small(2 tables), so I would bring the sandwiches back to my office.

Great Sub take out. Service was excellent! Walking distance from the World-Mark Hotel.

Wow! Talk about synchronicity! You know how life can just take your breath away with that whole Déjà vu thing? That«Gee, this seems so familiar» moment? I had a TON of those moments at this cool little restaurant! Like the moment I walked in the door. «Hmm… Looks like I need to get in line on that side, tell them what I want, and then after they make the sandwich I pay at the register. Strangely familiar.» When I ordered it kept happening. «The bread selection is EXACTLY the same as this restaurant in Albuquerque. Weird,» or «Same veggies, too» or «Same sauce selection, too!» To be honest, even when I ate the sandwich, it tasted just like the sandwich I ate at that one place back home. If I could only remember what that place was called…

I often wonder how easier all of our jobs would be if we actually gave a shit and had some pride in what we did. I can’t fathom that the person who made my footlong meatball marinara here last week gave a flying fuck in the fact that this was my lunch and I would either feel much happier or much sadder some 20 or 30 minutes later. They made my sandwich with about as much love as a Syrian dictator indiscriminately shooting his own people. Sadly, even with such abuse, I can’t say for sure that I won’t ever be back because, sadly, sometimes they’re just convenient and the quickest option for a busy workday. Then again, that might just say that I’m a masochist…

I don’t get the hate for this location, it’s really not that bad. The veggie freshness seems be about average, I’ve never seen any brown lettuce or had weird tasting olives — the tomatoes look anemic, but I see those everywhere and I never get them on my sandwich anyway for that reason. The staff here do seem to cycle through more than other locations so the construction can be a little sloppy, and the meaning of «just a little mayo and mustard» gets lost on them too. However, I’ve never had a problem with the staff being rude at all — maybe not the most effusively friendly bunch, but I go to Subway for cheap sandwiches that don’t require complicated decisions, not to make friends.

You get what you pay for — Subway is not great food. It’s fast food. But, I work pretty late and sometimes I get hungry on my way home, and the guys who man the late shift are always really friendly. I’m always happy to see them and they seem upbeat despite the late hour. I appreciate that.

The first few times I went here, I was satisfied, but I’ve noticed a decrease in the quality of both their food and service recently. I’m not sure if this is due to summer and untrained teenagers manning the registers and cooking the food, but my sandwiches have seemed a bit lukewarm compared to what I’ve come to expect from this normally acceptable franchise. Some people have complained about the cashiers not understanding their orders. I have not had this issue too much. They are a bit slower than most fast food restaurants when it comes to taking an order, but they seem to understand me. And if they can understand my rapid poorly pronounced ‘Murican speech, they speak English well enough! Working Girls Café is right next door and a lot better. Yes, it’s a little more expensive but the quality of the sandwiches more than makes up for the price. I wish Subway would do every footlong for $ 5(or at least every basic/whatever they call the cheap sandwiches for $ 5) instead of just one per month. They tend to pick sandwiches swimming in grease and bloated with calories rather than their healthier picks(black forest ham, turkey, veggie, oven roasted chicken) when it comes to their $ 5 footlong promotions. The worst part of this place is the fact that they have room for one or maybe two people to eat inside, and then another table or two outside. I guess that’s what you have to expect with such a small shop in downtown SF, though. I wish there were a Quizno’s instead. I think the one by the Giants stadium closed?

This is the Subway I come to the most often since it’s right next to my office. 2 small tables outside and 0 inside. Just a counter for people to grab and go. It’s a standard Subway chain with the smell of fresh-baked bread wafting out the door. Something I learned today was that asking them to toast your bread is 50 cents extra! Sorry, but isn’t toasting complimentary at most sandwich places? Veggies taste freshly chopped, so-so service, and average type of sandwich. Conveniently located on Bush between Grant and Kearny. Line can be long between 12−1pm.

I mean, it’s Subway… whaddya want? Doubt I would go if it weren’t right across the street from my office. Then again, their meatball sub holds a special place in my inner child’s tummy. Staff here is friendly and nice, never really had a problem here.

going to have to agree with the other reviewers on this one: avoid this Subway if you can. Subway has always been a reliable place for a decent sandwich at a great price, but this Subway location doesn’t make it worth it. Cons: –Extremely slow service, and this isn’t the I’m going to make sure everything is right therefore it’s slow service either. — The vegetables do not look fresh, especially the lettuce. It looks like it’s been sitting out for ages and it probably has since this location isn’t particularly high volume. — Speaking of the vegetables, they barely give you any. — The bread is stale if you aren’t there around lunch time. They don’t seem to bake as much fresh bread at this location, perhaps due to the low volume. i doubt the location is the reason for the low volume of customers, so I’m inclined to say that the poor service and food lead to the low levels of customers. I find it amusing that next to the cash register is a letter from the owner saying he will make sure our complaints/criticisms are taken care of to make this place the best. Obviously he hasn’t.

About a year or so ago, I had the WORST experience in this sandwich shop. I’m really not an aggressive person, but somehow my simple sandwich order led to a rude exchange of words. That was before I discovered the power of Unilocal. Reading the more current reviews, it’s not surprising things haven’t changed here. It’s clear that the owners don’t care about this location at all. I’m sure they treat their employees like dirt because who would want to work here? Sounds like they rotate staff pretty frequently. If you want a far superior sandwich, at a good price too, try the Good Luck Deli at Kearny and Commercial a couple blocks down.(I found it from their glowing Unilocal reviews.) You won’t be as sorry as frequenting this terrible franchise.

I loved my old location, on 2nd Street. But this one blows. I wish I could be kinder, or more eloquent, but«blows» about sums it up. First of all, the place is the size of a shoebox. And customers pack in like so many pairs of combat boots.(OK, time to abandon that metaphor.) Next, there is a serious communication problem. I don’t know if it’s due to under-education, or poor grasp of the English language, or some combination thereof — but it never ceases to cause problems. I get the wrong kind of bread. The wrong kind of meat. Or cheese. Or toppings. Or, the person in line ahead of me does, and it takes 5 minutes longer for them to get what they want. It’s just… oh… so inefficient. The dreaded«I”-word, for an establishment that relies so heavily on the assembly line production.

They skimp on the meat and overdo it on the dressing and dude was asking me what I wanted on both sandwiches at the same time and I was getting confused and the place is the size of a shoebox and people kept bumping me and then I found myself staggering up Bush crying.

ew I’m SO over this Subway location. Service is horrible and now the food is starting to go down the tubes. Bread was old and crappy today. Tomatoes and other veggies are NOT fresh. The service at this location rivals the worst out there. They barely speak English, they don’t pay attention, they don’t work together on their little assembly line… I end up repeating myself five times. This location needs an intervention!

Two stars because its still pretty much the same subway you get nationwide. However I have rated the other two subways because they will BLOWYOURMINDANDGLADDENYOURHEART for the fact that they are so much more superior than this one. First off, the store is suffering from serious neglect. Seems like it might not be cleaned daily. Second, they are SLOW, although I should say that smokey is pretty fast at the end of the line, and sometimes manages to play past the ineptitude of his associates ‘up-line’. Third today I was there and the one employee working there(at 11 am) went straight from cramming bills hastily into the register, using his entire hand to stuff them in thier respective slots STRAIGHT to making my sandwich. When I asked him if he would change his gloves for me he sneered somewhat, then proceeded to strip his gloves and slowly pull on a second pair. Somewhat surprised, I blurted«do you know how dirty money is?» and he looked at me like I had just asked him to sterilize the bread knife in an autoclave. Needless to say, I will never go back. Especially with a the A ONE Montgomery team just a few blocks away.

Okay, so Subway is Subway. Never the best sandwich you’ve ever had but you generally know what you’re going to get and their daily special is a great value. That is pretty much the case at this particular location, which might make you ask why I felt the need to write a review. Well, honestly, I just had to give props to «Smokey» who works there(I have so named him for the tattoo he sports on his neck). Smokey is not overly friendly, however he is quick, efficient, and accurate, which is exactly what I need when I go to Subway. I don’t want to be chatted up, I just want a damn sandwich. He gets the job done. He gets me in and out. And he does it while dealing with a drunk of a manager(who I haven’t seen in a while – I wonder if the owners finally clued in? Or maybe he’s in rehab?). On another note, the place is so cramped that you might as well get to know your neighbors! I get claustrophobic just trying to fill my soda cup. Summary: It’s a 3 star chain(for consistency), plus 1.5 stars for Smokey, minus .5 star for Drunken Manager, minus 1 star for cramped quarters.

I always swing on by this Subway Sandwiches when I’m headed to the Metreon for a preview night at the movies. Depending on the day, I usually get the Daily Special Today or the Veggie Delite. On my last visit, I asked about their«Daily Special Deal», which I could have sworn was another sandwich special sandwich that was offered. The lady just repeated«Meatball», in reference to their Daily Special Today sandwich. She didn’t know what I was talking about at all.(Maybe that is a special specific to each Subway? Per the website of the Montgomery Street location, they had a «Daily Special Deal» sandwich. Oh well.) Subway sandwiches are what they are. They are cheap and you get to pick what you want in there. Nothing glamorous and the bread is soft, which I do like. Overall, it works for me. You can’t expect a glamorous sandwich for only $ 2.99, right? Funny thing is that I’m still hungry after one of those six inches. Hmmm… Service is standard. Sometimes the girl looks tired around 6:30, and just bored. Other times she’s more alert and ready to go. I guess it all depends on what day you catch her. Update! 09÷27÷07 — I never realized how many Subways there were in San Francisco until I just did a search on Unilocal. There are a lot! However, I come to this one because it’s closest to my workplace and today I came in desperation because I needed to get lunch and didn’t know where else to go! And yes, I was being super cheap about it too! Of course, I ended up with the Veggie Delite. They have a bunch of young guys working there now(or at least during the day) and there was a steady stream of customers coming in too. You get exactly what you pay for, so no surprises there. And yes, I do miss their frequent eater cards! Bummer!

How come the actual sandwich looks NOTHING like the scrumptious-lookin’ sandwiches on their website & commercials??? False advertising, man. **Warning: Disturbing Anecdote Alert** Back in college, I had a friend who was a pharmacy major who loved to share too much information. She went to her ob/gyn for a routine check-up and asked the doctor a bunch of questions. One question was, «How can I tell if I have a y — - infection?» «Don’t worry, you don’t have one.» «But how would I know?» «Oh, you’ll know… you’ll smell like you’re baking bread.» Subway bakes their«own» bread(still processed & prepped). But strangely enough, it’s not a delicious, appetizing aroma like what comes from artisan bakeries. Everytime I walk by this Subway and get a whiff of that yeasty waft, I can’t help thinking of my friend’s anecdote. And now, so will you. Sorry!
