The best Thai food I’ve ever had(as well as one of the best value meals I’ve ever come across).

Had a great dinner tonight with 8 friends. Sadly, Sukhothai will be shuttering next week. Grab a Thai crêpe and the red curry with duck(Gang Something Pang) quickly, while you still can. According to the menu, a new Thai place will be opening in the same spot.

This used to be one of my favorite lunch place. But after the recent visit for dinner, i think i may not go anymore. Despite increase price, food portion decreased dramatically,. Bad service. The two waiters were so relaxed that they never bother to ask if i need anything, instead one of them were busy texting on his cell phone. For dinner, they always bring you a pot of rice before and you can ask for refill if you need more. But now, they charge for each bowl of rice. Thai food is spicy and saucey, with that bowl of of rice, it was barely enough. If you are a male or have a little bigger appetite, you have to order second bowl or maybe third. So be prepared to pay a lot more for you rice because the dish was tooooo delicious!!!

It’s good but I can get food that is just as tasty for the same price and with much greater volume at other restaurants in the Bay Area. Service was friendly and was probably my favorite thing about the place, along with the beautiful décor. All in all, it’s a great place for Thai food if you just happen to be in the area, but I don’t think I’ll ever *need* to come back.

i know i’m supposed to tell you why i love the food(which i do): but i must first give a shout out to the cutey who works there: i don’t know your name, but you’re so very very cute… *sigh* right, on to the food. it’s my fave thai spot at the moment. j’adore the mekrab(sp??), and the soup is nicely done. so are the curries and the duck dishes(oh duck!).

We dined here upon my sister’s requests because it’s cheap and good. We ordered family style: pineapple fried rice, catfish curry, pad thai, and a soup. This was definitely enough for our 5, with leftovers. Everything was so tasty, especially the catfish curry! I didn’t think I’d like it, but it turned out great. The pad thai was saucy-just the way I like it. And the fried rice complemented the curry very well. The only bad thing was– they didn’t know how to divide up the soup equally… dummies. Any way, good stuff!

Meh is right. Decent food but I’ve definitely had better. Prices were just right which is why we stopped in this place. Friendly wait staff and not at all busy around 8pm(is that a good or bad sign?) If you’re in the area and want mediocre Thai food, head on over to this spot. Otherwise find somewhere else to go.

I live in the Inner Sunset, and Sukhothai is my go-to Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. A wide variety of food, from the familiar curries and noodles, to more exotic dishes. Sadly, they don’t have my beloved Weeping Tiger, but I’ve yet to find a Thai restaurant in SF that does. The staff is friendly and accomodating, and it’s fun to people-watch the passers-by on 9th Ave. Pro tip: My immediate judge of whether a Thai restaurant will be passable is whether they have a picture of The King and Queen of Thailand prominently displayed. On the whole, the Thai people venerate Their Majesties, so the abscense of their picture ought to be a red flag. The other Thai restaurant I’ve reviewed in the Inner Sunset didn’t, and the food was correspondingly poor.

I was sat at a small, uncomfortably-crammed booth right in front. They didn’t unerstand that when I ordered and said«I’ll have the [noodle beef salad thing],» it meant that was my entrée. So there I am letting it get cold when they bring it out 5 minutes later while I wait for my dining partner’s entrée, which took unreasonably long to prepare. The quality: ehh. Good but I’ve had better. A little too salty. What an appropriate name.

Took a friend here for her b-day dinner. Heard about this place, but never really saw it amidst the other stores/eateries on 9th and Irving. Ordered basil calamari, papaya salad, red curry with chicken and pad see ew. I liked the papaya salad, but felt the food items were saturated with the sauce. The pad see ew was really good… think a dry style chow fun dish. Although the food was okay, price not too bad and decoration very authentic, I got sick the day after so I think I’m gonna have to pass on trying this place again.

The interior is very cute and very, very clean. My friend and I both really enjoyed our dinners. She ordered a vegetarian curry dish which she adored, and I ordered a seafood clay pot which was amazing. Service to take our order was a bit slow, but service during the meal was great — constant water refills and checking to see if everything was OK. We enjoyed our wine after we ate and were not rushed out of the restaurant. I’m sure I’ll go back again.

Too salty. what are you guys trying to do? Give me a heart attack. I got the BBQ beef. It’s got nice seasoning but dude, WAY too salty to be good. I tried to stay away from the stereotypical noodle dishes. So i can’t judge those. Service is very pleasant though. THey will refill your water even if it’s already full.

I never knew how much I loved Thai food until I started noticing that I have reviewed plenty of them in my short time on Unilocal.A friend and I stopped by here to try it out and were glad we did. We only ordered appetizers and a couple of Thai Singha Beer, but it was enough to make us want to come back again next. The appetizer combo consisted of crispy tofu, spring rolls, shrimp rolls, fish cakes, and curry tofu with sweet sauce, peanut sauce, and cucumber sauce. I didn’t care much for the crispy tofu since it was kinda bland, but the rest of the appetizers seemed to burst with flavors. The Singha beer was pretty good, not bitter like other beers. The service was excellent, the staff always checked on us and made sure everything was good. We had a very good experience here and will definitely come back again.

This place has probably the best Pad Si-ew in the Inner Sunset, hands down. And the Pad Sai-Roong is equally delicious. So why only 3 stars? The service here is a bit lacking. They always seem vaguely put off when I order. Not to mention sometimes they just don’t answer their phone. They’re not closed or anything, and one time I walked by to see if they were especially packed. Nope. They just… don’t answer the phone. Because, y’know, you really want to make it as difficult as possible to order the food. It’s a really effective method for encouraging repeat business… …At other Thai food places that is.

2nd full meal in San Francisco as a resident. I love Thai food… so we ordered most of my favorites… Drunken Noodles, Pad See Ew, Tom Yum Goong, Green Curry… and then just a few other things that looked good on the menu to share amongst the four of us. We were impressed(especially with the staff’s recommendations for appetizers)… definitely coming back… and soon!

After sampling the food at several of the Thai restaurants in the 9th and Irving area, liking some, disliking others, my friend and I dropped by Sukhothai for dinner one night. I ordered my usual; tofu with chili, garlic, and basil. I believe it’s on the menu here as «Chef’s Vegetarian Specialty». On top of the main ingredients, they also added baby corn, green beans, and zucchini to the mix, all of which were super fresh tasting. The green beans especially were perfectly crisp, and there were lots of them on the plate. Even the orange slice they used as a garnish tasted delicious after it soaked up the spicy sauce. Yes, it was so good I ate the garnish. Thai House Express on Castro used to hold the top slot on my list when it came to tofu pad ga prow. I think Sukhothai just stole that title.

Sukhothai is solid Thai food. It’s good to eat in, it’s good to eat out. The cashew chicken is great, as is my beloved pad se ew. The thai iced tea is also pretty yummy. I can’t really articulate it any better than that. Mmmm. Thai food.

The wait staff here are wonderful and make great recommendations for food! Had soup and green papaya salad, the best I’ve had in a long while. The flavors are so complex and all the ingredients meld into deliciousness on your plate.

This place gets 5 stars for its consistently fantastic Sizzlin Salmon dish. I don’t believe this dish is on the menu, but it’s a daily special. You’ll get plenty of pan-fried salmon, eggplant, carrots, and baby corn on a sizzling platter. For roughly $ 10 it’s totally worth it. Everything else is pretty good, not 5 star worthy, but pretty good.

I had a date this afternoon… with…myself. And it was beautiful. It’s been a while since I’ve gone out and had a low key meal with the company of myself and I have to say, I was not disappointed. I walked out of there happy(and stuffed!). Sukhothai was the perfect place for that peaceful, relaxing, excellent meal. I walked in at around 2:00 and low and behold I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were plenty of other solo dinners with the same idea. In fact there were more tables with people dining alone then with people in groups. The venue really adds to that quiet charm, it is small and soothing. The simple décor calls to come in, relax and enjoy the food. The soft rock music, while cheesy, is perfect background music for a zen like dining. I could totally read my book and was not the least bit distracted. No rush, no noise, no chaos of any kind, just pure bliss. The food is plain hearty. I love the little cup of soup they give for free while you wait for your dish to arrive. I had the eggplant with vegetables and tofu and substituted the white rice for brown(there’s a small fee to sub). The portion size was bountiful and the price tag was modest(only $ 7.55!). It was a fairly cold day outside and it felt sooooo good to savor the steaming rice with the hot and fresh vegetables, it was definately food for the soul. I used to live in the Sunset and went to Sukhothai a lot more. Now that I live in the Mission, I feel lame for using distance as a reason to not go there. Damn it, 2 trains or not, I’m not using any more excuses, Sukhothai is totally worth it and I’m going to drag my ass over there even if I have to ride the N!
