Sunset Dentistry

I’ve been to quite a few dental practices and none of them live up to the kind of experience I have at Sunset Dentistry. Their level of professionalism is outstanding, and they ensure that all patients are well taken care of. What I like most is the clarity about what work will be done and how much my insurance will be covering. There are never any surprises. Another key factor, is when the actual work is being done. The Dr. and her assistants always make sure the YOU KNOW what they are doing. They explain the «what» and «why» about each procedure, somewhat educating you along the way. This is huge for me !
All I can say is if you want a really great dentist experience, visit Sunset Dentistry.

Great customer service. made me feel very comfortable even when I felt really uneasy because I haven’t seen a dentist in a long time… I loved how they didn’t pressure me into anything. The sweet gal at the front desk really helped me utilize my health insurance and let me know all of my options! Highly recommend… not scared of my next appointment!

Amazing enough to drive one hour in the Bay Area traffic to see my dentist. Went to get my cleaning and a week later I had lil chipped tooth and they were able to schedule me ASAP. Come take a visit friendliest people! 5stars!

My first online review of any kind. I don’t write reviews because a negative one can affect a person’s business but my experience at the recently transferred ownership at Sunset Dentistry left me with little choice but to express my dissatisfaction. Appointment to have a fallen crown reglued at 11:00 AM. Doctor is running late and a room to become available at 11:30 AM. I had already informed the staff I had another appointment and needed to leave by 12:00 PM. Well, there was an emergency and Dr. Morghem tells me she can see me at 11:50 AM. Cancel my other appointment. At 11:50 AM, the receptionist tells me the doctor won’t be done until 12:30 PM. 12:00 PM, the doctor can’t see you because she has a lunch appointment.
How do you keep a patient waiting for one hour and then informed them they can’t see you because of a LUNCH appointment? In the past 12 years I’ve been a patient of the previous Dr. Hoffman, nothing even close to this ever happened. New ownership, perhaps they need to take a course on how to treat patients. The receptionist was nice and did apologize. Dr. Morghem should have also but seemed young and inexperienced. Oh, yes… lunch appointment, screw the patient.

I recently required quite a bit of attention in my mouth and I’m happy to say I was very well cared for by Dr. Morghem and her staff. Olga gave me the best cleaning of my life, Milton took very comprehensive X-​Rays and assisted Dr. Morghem like he was her right hand and Jasmine was so very attentive and proficient at the front desk. Love Sunset Dentistry and for the first time ever regarding the dentist, I’m looking forward to my next visit! :)

Very accommodating and the staff know their stuff. A few weeks back I had severe pain in my mouth from a wisdom tooth putting pressure on my gum. I called the office around noon to see somebody and was set up with an appointment that day at 3pm with Dr. Morghem. She was funny, professional, and well experienced with tooth removals (she said she did 200 in medical school). I was out of there in an hour and on my way. Definitely satisfied and will continue to go here.

The best! My entire experience with Dr. Morghem and Sunset Dentistry was outstanding, she made me feel comfortable and answered all of my questions. I felt like she did a great job educating me on my dental health and recommending areas I need to work on. Her office and staff are very welcoming and made me feel at home. After going to several dentists in the city I know which one I will be returning to!

Dr. Morghem is an excellent dentist. She’s super friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. The office is clean and comfortable. I highly recommend going to Sunset Dentistry if you’re looking for a great dentist in the city! I look forward to visiting again soon!

Excellent dentistry. Friendly and the most thorough exam and cleaning I have ever experienced. All high tech new equipment and Very friendly staff and dentists.

There is only one way to describe my many years as a patient of Dr. Hoffman: I trust him with my life!
From fixing a busted filling to major restoration work, he always knows exactly what to do, this is a priceless feeling. He and his team have taken care of my teeth and my husband’s teeth for over 10 years and I could not recommend them more highly!

The team is always friendly and welcoming. Dr. Hoffman originally saw me when a tooth chipped. He explains the options, answers questions, and lets you make the informed decision before giving his opinion. Even came in over the holidays to fix a crown that came off. I moved out of the neighborhood and still drive into the city to work with Dr. Hoffman.

The most caring and comforting dentist I have ever been too! He and his staff went above and beyond to help me. I have found myself a new dentist, Dr. Hoffman

Dr Hoffman is the best dentist I’ve ever had. He and his staff are super nice, easy to communicate with, and very accommodating.
When, I had one of my top front teeth replaced with an implant, Dr Hoffman went above and beyond to handle my tooth issues. He was patient, effective, and meticulous. The results are great.
If you want to be relaxed, instead of tense at the dentist, go see Dr Hoffman.

I avoid the dentist as much as possible. I hear the deafening whir of drills as soon as an ice cream cone hits my lips. I had a filling pop out of a molar a while back, leaving in its path a large hole. Days later I chipped the tooth behind it. Completely afraid that my teeth were going to all start falling out of my head, I contacted Dr. Hoffman who was simply close to my house and on the way to work.
Marie is awesome, completely forgiving of a hectic schedule and able to adjust with ease. Dr. Hoffman is a great guy that I trust. I was able to relax and know that he was going to gentle with my face as well as with my wallet. He seems more interested in keeping you as a patient for the long run rather then for just racking up one large bill with whitening and the like.
Well, the end of the story, for now, I have a lovely new molar that looks as though nothing ever happened to it. I love it.

I haven’t actually entered the building yet, but the woman on the phone was incredibly helpful, so I had to talk about it.
I have an emergency type situation, I need to have a crown replaced that has fallen out. I have basically been freaking out about it for a few hours. My insurance is incredibly confusing and I have already been turned away at 2 dentists, but this woman is being so generous and cooperative, she has taken a lot of information down and is calling my insurance carrier for me to figure things out. She already scheduled me an appointment for 30 minutes from now while she gets the insurance information in order.
Hopefully the visit goes as smoothly!

Dr. Hoffman is a skilled professional who I have used for over 15 years. I trust his diagnostic techniques, his problem-​solving skills and his basic talent for his work a great deal. Personally, I consider him to be one of the best dentists in San Francisco, and I know a number of other professional dentists who share this opinion.
Marie and the other staff are also excellent. Her job is stressful, and like any office manager she has to attempt to keep the schedule filled, and this might sometimes give impressions that are otherwise unjustified, but in short, she’s a caring excellent office manager. On a number of occasions she provided simple advice that obviated costly office visits and or treatment, not only for me but also for a friend.
The place isn’t perfect: no place is. But it’s close, and they are chasing perfection. That’s the whole point.
New note: I have been down with a tooth infection and can’t be transported. Dr. Hoffman called me three times on a holiday just to make sure … not only that I was alright, but also that I was comforted about my concerns. This is way beyond the call of duty, and is a very rare kind of care here in SF these days. This person is an asset to his profession.

We all get to have our own opinions of dentists, and Dr. Hoffman is no exception. I have read the positive and negative reviews here, and I’d like to add my thoughts because i have both kinds of feedback.
On the positive side
_​Dr. Hoffman and his staff (re) instructed me on how to brush my teeth with an electric toothbrush; five seconds on each too, close to the gum area. Somehow I forgot this, and it was good to get the refresher course.
_​Like another reviewer, I also found good magazines to read, especially for the sometimes long wait I had. [This is a half-​and-​half comment, good mags and not so good on the wait time.]
_​The staff members were very nice, and I liked all of them quite a lot. At the same time, they were well-​trained in a specific area, making money, and those who worked up front had a profit-​making edge. [Oops, another half-​and-​half comment.]
_​‘Free’ toys at the checkout desk (another half-​and-​half because in the end you pay for these toys.)
_​I also received good checkups and dental care, but I think the things I mention are are outweighed by my next category, the negative side.
On the negative side:

_​Dr. Hoffman and his very well-​trained staff are all on one page, the page of making money. This is the first dentist I have ever had who collects the money — all of the money and even when the fee is huge (which happened with me several times) — at the time of the visit. The office staff did bill my dental insurance, but made me pay the whole amount and wait for a refund from my insurance. I see this as a lack of trust issue, and would think that after, say, a year of on time payment (at least), the mostly huge bills could be paid off over time.
_​More on the huge free point: Dr. Hoffman’s fees are a bit above what is standard in SF. He’s not the only one who does this, of course, but you can find a first rate dentist in SF who doesn’t do this.
_​$$ The drive for money $$: At your first appointment you’ll have your picture taken so you can see the ‘improvement’ over time. I didn’t know what this meant as I went in for a 6-​month check up. [Would my teeth get cleaner than my last dentist? If so, how?] I admit I fell for the hard sell, better mouth, nicer smile. I don’t regret that. What I was not told is that, as but one example, the veneers I paid dearly for would need to be replaced every two years (or so). Two of mine didn’t make it that long.
_​_​None of this would be bad had I been informed when I walked in that cosmetic dentistry was the big focus and money-​maker at this office. No one ever said this, even when I ever-​so-​nicely asked.

Having just moved to the Sunset, I was in need of a new dentist.
Naturally I turned to the internet. Who do people love on Unilocal?Dr. Hoffman, that’s who! Conveniently located a mere 10 blocks from my new home.
I was in the midst of a phantom tooth ache (ghost pains where my wisdom teeth used to be) and Marie was able to fit me right in for the next morning, promptly at 8am.
As soon as I walked into the beautifully appointed office, I felt at home. There were tons of People magazines, the office was clean and bright and Marie was extremely sweet and funny. It felt familiar… almost like family…
Dr. Hoffman and I talked for awhile about where I lived, where I had grown up and where I went to school. He is the kind of man who you could have known your whole life and you just pick up where you left off every time you see him. Comfortable and sweet, he told me there was nothing wrong with me and that I should come back for a regular cleaning in a week.
The next day I got a call at my office from Dr. Hoffman. Strangely enough, there was a solid reason I felt so at ease and familiar with both Marie and Dr. Hoffman. We are related! And not just in that every Jew is related because of Moses and the Bible and stuff kind of way. He saw my mom’s name on my chart and realized that we are cousins and that more than 10 years ago he attended my Bat Mitzvah.
I gave him the OK to call Gail up, and they got together that night!

I’ve been going to Tina (and Dr. Hoffman) for years. It’s a great place — unpretentious, professional/​warm attitude, thorough cleanings, good magazines. Dr. Hoffman was also recommended to me by my former dentist (whom I adored, but I moved, so I needed a new dentist). Marie is very sweet and we always chat. They do sometimes call to see if you can come in earlier but it’s up to you whether you want to or not. After the visit I always get a toothbrush and other free goodies. They even have some celebrity clients (or so I’ve heard).
I see that others have found him through positive word of mouth too. About the parking, try to get the 8 AM appointment because the meters don’t start till 9 AM. Or hop on the N Judah.

I’ve been going to Dr. Hoffman for over 10 years now. I almost hate to tell people how great the experience there has been for fear of overcrowding the practice! Please note: I used to HATE going to the dentist! Doc has helped me overcome my fears and has helped me through every stage in my adult dental life. Additionally, Marie, in the front office, does me the service of remembering my name, even if it’s been a long time since I was last in. You won’t find anyone to clean your teeth more gently than the hygienists there either. Parking can be challenging, but, as a previous Unilocaler mentioned, the staff there will feed the meters for you if necessary. Added bonus: a wonderful collection of magazines and books to peruse while you wait!
