What a bunch of crazy worthless shops… perfect if you are a typical tourist with children and have no taste in true local flavor there are candy and souvenir shops right up you’re alley. But if you are an avid traveller visiting San Francisco for the 1st or 3rd time stay far far away. Locals too. The only decent thing about this place is that they have a parking garage.

Anchorage Square is a great mixed use retail project located in the Fisherman’s Wharf district and has a lot of potential. There are shops, eateries, restaurants, tourist services, offices, hotel, parking garage, etc. It’s also located next to the historic F street car line and cable car turnaround.

The bathrooms are password protected, and yet they are still dirty. Maybe they need to change the password more often.

There is something wrong with The Anchorage this year. Along the street it’s OK; you can still find Hooters, In-N-Out Burger, and Fisherman’s Pizzeria. But look above the street level and you find an empty building. The interior plaza, where musicians, magicians and jugglers used to perform, is silent. The second floor has no shops. The third floor, where Bennigan’s once served the coolest cocktails in town, stares down at us dark and empty. A temporary jewelry stand camps in the hole on the sidewalk where the elevator used to be. With all the activity around it, and the Courtyard Mariott behind it, this is just wrong. And it’s June already.

The Anchorage is a nice little mall. There are places to dine(including a Starbucks) and shop(including a liquor store). Courtyard by Marriott at Fisherman’s Wharf is located in the Square. The Square is ideal stop for the visitor to sleep, eat and shop.
